The Lies I Tell was a quick, engrossing read. It kept my interest throughout, and somehow made a really unlikeable character somewhat likeable.

I would personally describe this book more as a domestic suspense than a domestic thriller. I kept waiting for the "thriller" part of the storyline to kick in, but it never really did. There were certain points where it felt as if it might lead to a darker, more thrilling plot, but then it would back off again. It was definitely never an "edge-of-your-seat" kind of book, at least in my opinion.

I also found some plot points to be somewhat far-fetched, but never so much that they impacted my enjoyment of the story. I genuinely did like it, I just think it's important to go in with the expectation of a suspense. I also loved seeing Reading, PA referenced in the book! That is my hometown and I've never before seen it referenced in a book, so that was a fun surprise.

I would recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of suspense or anyone that enjoyed Julie Clark's first novel.

I started reading this book in the late evening and finished by the next day. It just blew me away and was so good that I just did not want to stop reading. I did not know what to make of Meg Williams but for being the con artist that she was, I ended up liking her. I also liked Kat, the other female protagonist in this book. I was completely engrossed in both Kat and Meg’s stories. This was so brilliantly written with so many twists that it will leave your head spinning. It is a fast-paced mystery that will have you staying up way too late reading. The Lies I tell is going on my Favorite Reads for 2022 list. Do not miss this one.

So many lies are told in this enthralling story. The two main characters are both hiding their true nature, and for good reason. Kat is an investigative journalist who has a personal reason for digging into the life of Meg, a career con artist. The story is well-paced and interesting. And as Meg’s motivation and actions are revealed, this reader was rooting for her. Both characters are multi-layered and complex. I definitely recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley for a digital ARC.

A con artist. A journalist. A phone call. A family wronged out of their estate. These are all the makings of The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark, a fun cat and mouse game where you can't tell who to trust when everyone is lying.

Told from alternating POVs, we are introduced to Meg, the big-hearted grifter who is seeking revenge against the man who conned her family out of their home, and Kat, the investigative journalist who has been tracking her for years.

This is such a fun, well-written book full of twists and smart female characters. I got sucked un right from the get-go and found myself rooting for both Meg and Kat to each get their own revenge. And that ending .... so masteful!! This will be one of the best reads of the season

Thank you to Julie Clark, NetGalley and Sourcebools Landmark for an advance copy.

Perfect book for a rainy day! Two women out for revenge for different reasons. Meg is a con artist. She has spent the past ten years working her craft before she goes after Ron Ashton who cheated her mom out of her family home. Her mom had no money and terminal cancer which forced both of them to spend Meg’s senior year in high school living in a car. Something bad happened to Kat. She is a journalist and has been gathering information about Meg and her cons for many years so she can write about her.

The story moves back and forth in time and is told by both Meg and Kat, Julie Clark had me guessing several times about what would happen. I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next Julie Clark book. My thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. The opinions in this review are my own.

After her mother is conned out of their beautiful estate, Meg becomes a con artist herself. Her latest mark is the very person who stole her family’s house. She is being tracked by disgraced reporter, Kat, in The Lies I Tell.

This book is a fun cat and mouse tale! I loved all the details about how a con is set up. However, the book’s main twist was too obvious and the conclusion relatively unbelievable. 4 stars!

Thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.

This book was AMAZING! I loved the storytelling and the intertwining of two women who seemed like very different characters, but in reality, maybe not that different. Great writing and plot twist! Would highly recommend!

I truly could not put this book down. Who can you trust when everyone is lying?! I loved it and it kept me hooked right from the beginning. The switching back and forth of perspective of the two main characters and in time was nicely executed. I loved the resolution of the story. Highly recommended.

ALL the stars for this superbly crafted cat and mouse/grifter psychological thriller. Told from alternating POVs, Meg the big-hearted grifter out to get revenge for past wrongs and expose corrupt men and Kat, the investigative reporter who has been tracking her for years.

This story is SOOO well written. Full of twists and SMART female characters. I love when the lines between good and evil get blurred not to mention excellent cliffhanger endings! This book has that and so much more. Everyone loved the author's last book but in my opinion this one is her best yet! Perfect for fans of Lucky by Marissa Stapley. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

You Think You Know Me. This is a con artist/ revenge tale where if you think you know either of our main characters... well, you need to read through the end of the tale. ;) I found it close enough to thriller territory to warrant that label, as I was constantly wanting to further uncover exactly what was going on. Despite some other reviews claiming the contrary, there actually are a few twists... though I fully admit they are more of the "no narrator is honest" type, as the text openly admits. Ultimately I had fun with this tale, and that is all I really ask of a book. Very much recommended.

Wow! This book! I was intrigued by the blurb for this title, and how a con artist can use their skills to seek justice. It was advertised as a "Robin Hood" sort of story.

The story kicked off and pulled this reader into the story right away. Meg lives in her vehicle and is a bit obsessed with how she got in that predicament. Meg and her mother were kicked out of the home they lived in by an unscrupulous boyfriend who steals their home right from under them. This sets the stage for Meg's life as she must learn to live on her own and in the process becomes a master con artist. This woman is good!

There is one problem though. In the process of her con, she involved Kat Roberts, a reporter. And Kat is eager to uncover just what's going on and doesn't see that she's put herself in danger as well. After a devastating incident while investigating Meg, her life is shattered and her path is now focused on following and uncovering Meg's confidence game.

When Kat has the opportunity to become friends with Meg, she takes it, thinking she'll have the story of her journalism career. But as she gets to know Meg, she finds that there's more to this story.

What I liked most about this story was the skillful manner in which this story was presented to me. It kept me guessing about both Meg and Kat, their motivations and what exactly was true and real. I liked how this was a story about two women too, both victims of their circumstances -- it was refreshing and unique for this reader. And just when I thought I was going to be left hanging without resolution to one of the situations with Kat, the final pages pull everything together so beautifully that I was left smiling. I adored that ending so much.

If you are looking for a tight domestic thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you might like this one. I found it to be unique and intriguing. I loved the story of these two women and how each impacted the other's life. It was masterfully crafted and probably one of my favorites reads of this year.

Julie Clark's The Lies I Tell is a twisted domestic thriller that dives deep into the psyches and motivations of two women and their unwavering quest to seek justice for the past and rewrite the future. Beginning ten years before, and alternating between Kat Roberts, and Meg Williams, this is a story that will keep you guessing. When Meg was in her final year of High School, her mother was conned and ended up losing their home. Meg spent the final year of High School living in her car, and then losing her mother. She's never forgotten the man who destroyed her life.

Meg Williams is a con artist. She is very, very smart, and exceptionally good at what she does, and she has been waiting years for the opportunity to get revenge on her current mark. Meg has gone by a variety of names. Meg Williams. Maggie Littleton. Melody Wilde. She becomes whoever you need her to be—a college student. A life coach. A real estate agent. Nothing about her is real. She slides alongside you and tells you exactly what you need to hear, and by the time she's done, you've likely lost everything. But she's not evil. She's on a mission to destroy the man who took everything from her, and if she can take down other villainous men along the way, so be it.

Kat Roberts was an up-and-coming journalist until 10 years earlier when Meg Williams called in a tip on a story on which she was working. That tip led to Kat's life being forever changed, and losing a promising job. For the past 10 years Kat has been trying to find Meg and uncover all her cons so she can write an expose and once again be a respected journalist. What is justice and who can be trusted? 10 years later, Kat runs into Meg who apparently has chosen to go after someone who is running for the Senate. Someone who destroyed her life. But as the two women grow closer, Kat's long-held assumptions begin to crumble, leaving Kat to wonder who Meg's true target is. Kat finds that Meg is more than she appears.

Julia Clark writes a story of two strong women in their own voice and written it in a way that you have to keep following along to see what happens next.

I think this is one of my favorite thrillers I've read in a while! The ending was perfection. I was hooked right from the beginning and I tried to unravel what was going on with the multiple points of view. The two main characters, Kat and Meg, were so interesting and trying to discover how they were connected was a fun journey and that was just the beginning. We find out pretty early on that Meg wronged Kat and Kat wants to seek revenge. What unfolds is a fun, twisty thriller with one of the best endings I've read in a thriller.

The difference between justice and revenge comes down to who's telling the story.

A con artist. A journalist. A phone call. A tangled tale filled with plotting and planning. This book was a fascinating read. Meg is planning to take down a local politician. Kat is determined to right a wrong in her past while publishing a tell-all story that will stop Meg in her tracks. Life is complicated and the nuances in a relationship that is established between the two will keep you turning the pages. You might think at first that Meg is the bad guy in the scenario and start rooting for Kat. As with The Last Flight, there are details to be learned about the back story that may change your mind. You might also find yourself rooting for both women.

4.25* This is a smart domestic thriller that follows two women with different reasons for "tracking" each other. Meg is trying to right a wrong, while Kat is seeking retribution for a wrong done to her. I really enjoyed the way this story was set up throughout the ten years that are referenced in the book. These two women, represented on the fabulous cover, were interesting and nuanced characters. It was a propulsive read - I got pulled into the story very quickly, intrigued by what was happening and why. I highly recommend it.

“It’s the Girl Code. We have to look out for each other because no one else will.”

What a great read! A different kind of revenge story with two unique and likable female characters. Meg Williams has many aliases and has spent the last 10 years running sophisticated cons on various victims. Kat Roberts holds Meg responsible for a trauma she suffered, and now, as a journalist, Kat is determined to expose Meg and bring her down. Little do either of the pair know that both are on a quest to right past wrongs and be able engineer a better future.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced domestic thriller that I read in a single sitting. The narrative flips back and forth in time and point of view between the two main characters. It took me a minute to become attached to both, all the while hoping that each would succeed in their endeavors. Totally addictive and very well written, this is highly entertaining and I recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for this e-book ARC to read and review.

I could not put this book down because the plot and characters drew me in like a bee to honey. Kat and Meg are different sides of the same coin. Meg wants to expose the villains who prey on women and Kat wants to expose Meg for what she considers entrapment of those men, using her expertise as an investigative reporter to investigate Meg while Meg uses her life experience to find men who need to be caught and suffer consequences for their actions. Both women have a lot in common even though they have different backgrounds and both are equally interesting. Most of the book is written from Meg’s point of view, but the narrator does switch off between the two. I really enjoyed the cat and mouse game that was portrayed in the book, both between the two woman as well as Meg and her current prey. Both women are seeking justice, just a different variety. The plot was original and highly entertaining. Touted as a domestic thriller, I would wholeheartedly agree with this description. The action was fast-paced and completely absorbing. There were come complex parts of the book in which Meg was describing her actions and the backstory for why she was pursuing justice in her own way, but the plot was written so well that I followed it without batting an eye. In fact, I was rooting for the two women to join together and become a kick butt team of justice warriors! I loved the main characters, the original plot and the way the story was so riveting. I especially enjoyed the unexpected twists and surprises which the author masterfully included.

I’m about 80% through this book and I’m starting this review now!! This Kat chick has been working my nerves since she stepped on the scene! I have been rolling my eyes nonstop! Like…girl…what are you doing?!?! You have an issue with Meg because…what?!?! Like you’ve got to be the dumbest, most clueless investigative journalist EVER!!! Grrr!!! 😡.

100% complete: Oh ok so Meg is Batman and Kat is still a dummy.

This wasn’t a thriller, it was fast paced and entertaining enough….I guess. But Kat’s motive just threw me completely off. Sorry, but she pretty much ruined what could have been a great story.

Cat Ate The Mouse or did The Mouse Escape the Cat!

Meg Williams, an attractive, unusual and sophisticated grifter and con-woman who is expert at her schemes and always works alone. Meg started out at about twenty-one years of age learning the ropes by trial and error motivated by the cruel and calculated individual who's stole her life from her when she was still a teenager. Ten years later Meg might get the chance to get her final payday unless she gets caught first because someone knows the Meg's real identity and they have a big plan of their own.

Kat Robertson, a young journalist looking for her first big break while working for the "LA Times" newspaper when she's supposed to follow up on some leads about a male school teacher/predator for her boss who is really writing this story. Kat receives a phone call that was meant for her boss but she decides to follow this lead instead, which will put herself in harm's way and Kat will then spend the next ten years still trying to recover from that one day that has haunted her day and night while her career still never got off the ground.

These two women will eventually meet and begin a game of cat and mouse that will bring them on a collision course for possible disaster or will it be an end game to something completely different and unexpected?

This book was so good. Delightfully and devilishly good and I loved it! This author "Julie Clark", wow, can she write! The novel far exceeded my expectations and I'm so happy that I got the chance to read and review this ARC. Storytelling, writing quality, interesting and intriguing characters with a wonderfully unique plot. This was my first book by this author but I will definitely be reading more of her books. The cat and mouse game never got old for me and I appreciated how the book had complete closure yet I loved the characters so much I really didn't want the story to come to an end. Personally, I enjoyed the Meg character more than Kat but by the end of the book, Kat really had grown on me. I highly recommend this exciting, psychological thriller to any readers who enjoy cunning, female leads in a suspense novel. I really don't think you will be disappointed.

I want to thank the publisher "Sourcebooks Landmark" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this thrilling novel and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have given this highly imaginative book a rating of 4 1/2 DEVILISH AND DECEPTIVE 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌠 STARS!!

An expertly crafted story of two women Meg, a con who has used many aliases, and Kat who has waited years to expose Meg and make her pay for a wrong she perceived Meg caused her. The women end up working together, each with a secret from the other. Each thinking they can fool the other. It's an unusual twisty working relationship And I found myself likening both characters a lot. Usually, I tend to like one over another. Each woman has admirable strengths. I found the beginning a little, e slow but it picked up quickly, and then I couldn't put it down. I found myself hoping the outcome was as I wished. Meg is a superior con artist but you won't hold that against her. Kat is engaged but is having trouble committing to the actual wedding. Her husband-to-be tries to talk her out of her quest to expose the con, Meg.
I enjoyed this book and recommend it highly. The pursuit of justice and making others pay for their actions in a most delightful way. Thank you, NetGalley, publishers Sourcebook Landmark, and Julie Clark for this advanced eARC this is my personal, honest review. You will enjoy this book!
