The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark Fast paced and easy transitioning between the past and present timelines of the two female lead characters. Interesting premise with a female con artist and a struggling journalist. Meg is a likeable character. An entertaining and enjoyable read.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

A fast perfectly paced can’t put down read that’s perfect for the beach, vacation, or anywhere you settle with a book. Great plot and characters.

The Lies I Tell, by Julie Clark, is a social manipulation thriller. This is exactly the kind of suspense novel I like to read, full of tension and secrets, with no guts or gore.

Meg is a successful con artist, with a string of alternate names and men with emptied bank accounts behind her. She's back in California for one last, big con (OMG I love last-heist stories), taking revenge on the man who hurt her family.

Kat, a struggling journalist, was seriously hurt while investigating one of Meg's previous cons, which makes her even more determined to expose this one. She sets out to break the story and ruin Meg's life in return for what happened to her.

Meg chooses her targets carefully, though, and does plenty of research to keep her cons successful. We see Meg's path from cadging a free dinner to floating millions in shady real estate deals, and it's all done with a little social research, smiles, and letting men underestimate here.  I'd read another book all about Meg targeting scum and leaving with their cash! But Kat's an interesting character too, and while she seems like a single-minded investigator, Kat's got someone very close to home with his own trust issues and financial problems.

I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say The Lies I Tell is full of lies, half-truths and secrets, which leads to a page-turner with no blood or gore.

I loved The Lies I Tell. I wasn’t a huge fan of The Last Flight, but this book was just what I needed and once this cat and mouse story pulls you in, good luck putting this book down.

I enjoyed the fast pace of the story and the twists it took along the way. I also liked that not all reveals were left until the very end. Even though Meg is a con artist, I still found myself rooting for her when you find out why she picks her targets and doesn’t do all she does just for the money. She had a heartbreaking childhood and you can see how lonely she is in the life that she chose where she can’t put down roots and has to abandon everyone she gets close to.

The twists in the story for both Meg and Kat kept me turning pages so quickly. As things starting happening to Kat, it was so easy to blame Meg, but just like Kat I was on the fence. I loved the ending for Kat, but I also need a sequel to see what happens!

THIS BOOK WAS PHENOMENAL.

"Two women working together are a force to be reckoned with."

I already had high hopes after reading Julie Clark's last novel, The Last Flight, and this novel blew the first one out of the water. I was really impressed. Clark has such a unique way of telling stories that allows them to be more than just a thriller.

This revenge story was next-level. It was gripping, it was thrilling, and I immediately was absorbed into the story. I was so curious how Kat and Meg's lives overlapped, and what the ending would turn out to be. It was dual POV and alternating timelines, which made the story that much more intriguing. I loved how the entire story flowed and I really loved the big reveal. I could not put it down and I am not kidding when I say I absolutely HAD to know what was going to happen.

THIS IS A MUST READ and I am so happy I was granted the privilege to read an ARC of this novel!! Thanks to Netgalley & Sourcebooks Landmark for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Julie Clark for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

Meg Williams is a young woman who is the victim of circumstance. She is homeless living out of her car and struggling to survive. She knows something has to change for her to get out of the cycle she's in. An opportunity presents itself to her and she takes the chance to not only change her path in life but to give a little payback too. In herself she finds the ability to start righting some of the wrongs that have happened to women. Kat Roberts is a budding journalist trying to make it in a male dominated world. She believes she has found the story that will help her career take off when her life is derailed. Vowing vengeance she investigates Meg and befriends her.

This book started off a little slow for me. It took me a bit to get into. I have read about halfway through Julie Clark's other book, The Last Flight, and have not finished it yet due to a slow journey in my opinion. But now I want to grab it up and read as fast as I possibly can since I found a connection between the two. Once I got about halfway I could barely stand to put this book down! I was dying to find out the ending. Even though this didn't have that major "shock twist factor" it still grabbed my attention and made me want to find out what happened to these women. This book was more of a domestic drama than a thriller but I think it's important for all women to read.

The Lies I Tell is a knockout. Smart, savvy and has two of the most beguiling female characters. Haven't read The Last Flight but will be checking it out! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for a review.

Absolutely loved this book! I was a huge fan of Julie Clark’s The Last Flight so I knew I had to read this one. The characters and storylines were all woven together so well. The relationship that was built between Kat and Meg was so interesting. 5 stars for me! Thank you so much to NetGalley for the arc!

So I definitely think that Julie Clark is going to be a go-to author for me. Another wonderful book, may just be a bit better than "The Last Flight".

I loved Julie Clark’s debut thriller, The Last Flight, so I was eager to read this book. Once again she uses strong female characters and terrible men. This combo will certainly resonate with lots of women and this book will surely be a summer reading favorite for many. The character development is well done and I really liked and cared about these women. The many plot twists and fast paced story make this a book that you will read quickly.

I will be adding Julie Clark to my must read authors list and will recommend this book to thriller readers. Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was impressive! I liked it better than her first book, which I'd gotten from BOTM last year.
This was layered and twisty and I couldn't put it down. A definite 5 stars.

Catch Me If You Can but make it feminist! I LOVED this book! The story is fast paced and full of shocking moments, but never feels unrealistic. I loved how each time the perspective switched, I felt my loyalties change between the women. Yes, Meg is a con artist, but is she justified in her actions? Is Kat any better since she’s lying too? I loved the way this book made me question morality and whether revenge is ever justified. While I’m not sure if I’d necessarily call this a thriller, it’s easily one of the best mystery/thriller-type books I’ve ever read. A true knockout of a book and a perfectly bingeable beach read!

This was such a fun read! Love a good Robin Hood con woman. Kat was such a great character and felt such empathy towards her situation re: her husband. Meg was also just a great addition and loved hearing her perspective.

I wish to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rarely do I read a book as gripping as this one is. It is told from two points of view. One is Kat Roberts and the other is Meg Williams. Meg is a grifter, a con artist, an avenger and master manipulator. She has refined her skills and never misses. She is exhausted by the system that fails to protect women and is looking for justice. She befriends and helps those in need and many that she helps are full of nothing but praise for her. Meg is highly proficient in the use of the internet, identity changes and cons.

Kat Roberts is a journalist working on a story to expose Meg. Kat’s boyfriend, Scott, is a police officer who has an addiction to gambling and has ruined their finances and she is trying to track down his steps in covering up his actions.

Kat and Meg meet not accidentally. They work separately and yet find themselves on a similar journey of discovery. They are not friends but are allies with each hiding from the other the real truth of their lives

Starting in the first chapter I was hooked and loved it all. The characters are well defined and introduced in such ways you love them both and are amazed at what two women can do to change things that society ignores. I challenge you to find a female villain. There are many male villains and this story will have you sitting on the edge of your seat trying to stay ahead of these really strong women. I highly recommend it and know you and your friends will be talking about this a lot once it is published. Wish I could give it 10 stars.

After reading and loving The Last Flight I was so excited to be approved for Julie Clark’s latest, The Lies I Tell. And I’m even more excited to be able to report to you all that I freakin’ loved it!
This cat-and-mouse thriller weaves between con artist Meg and journalist Kat who is out to expose Meg after their worlds collided a decade ago, but as Meg’s backstory begins to unravel you quickly learn that sometimes a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, and the villain in this one may not be so obvious.
I loved that Clark wrote such strong and curious female characters. We get a lot of females written who are medicated or weak, and honestly it’s so tired that I loved seeing these characters written with strength and determination.
And the ending of this one was perfect. Obviously I’m not going to give it away, but I will say that I found it to be the perfect, wrapped up ending that I was hoping for.

WOW. This is by far one of my top mystery/thrillers of the year yet. The story follows two women named Meg and Kat. Meg is a con-artist and Kat is a reporter working at a low-paying dead-end job. She determined to expose Meg and get her big break after having to write fluff pieces to pay off her fiancé’s gambling debts. It’s dual POV, which I always enjoy and so fast paced. It has short chapters, and the chapters that are longer have breaks. For some reason that always keeps me reading. I loved knowing what was going through each characters mind concurrently. It was like watching a game of cat and mouse between the two. Several twists and I LOVED the execution of it. This book kept me turning the pages! I really thought after one twist was revealed that it was going to keep unraveling, but I was wrong and the reason was even better than I imagined. Seriously, add this to your TBR now and make sure you keep your eyes out for it this summer!

A fascinating and fast-paced story of two women...one with multiple backgrounds, bios, life stories, etc. (all made up and based on lies)...and the woman who dedicates herself to uncovering the falsehood and fraud involved before others can be hurt. Enjoyed it.
