Communication is hard. Good communication is harder. This book helps. It's easy to understand and read - but you do need to put the tips and ideas into practice.

This was a brilliant guide. I found it so helpful. As it is helping us understand that our choice of words and the tone of voice is very important to not get peoples defences up or cause conflict or misunderstandings. This helpful guide explains how to deal with so many situations with different people. This include relationships, family, friends, work colleagues, children and teenagers. The author is certified and definitely know what they are talking about.

I am autistic and have always had issues with conversations so I found this book particularly useful. I especially loved the examples chapter. This book made me certainly think more about my choice of words and made me want to change my everyday life skills. This will definitely be a book you would go back to time and time again as a reminder.

I found the language used in this book very easy to understand and follow. The layout with a mix of text, lists and tables were brilliant.

I recommend this book to everyone who feels they need a helping hand to avoid any hurt or conflict and create harmonious relationships with those around them. I also think this book would be useful for those like me who are autistic to develop useful skills.

So much praise goes out to the author and publishing team for bringing together this fantastic and very useful book to help those who struggle with Conversational issues.

This one was the book I didn’t knew I needed really, but when reading it helps so much that you just want everyone to read it too.

For me this one strike me more as a manual really, but a manual that you will use for the rest of your life possibly since it’s so practical and useful you will just want to practice this everyday really.

And it was so clear and easy to understand too that was a plus for me since I don’t have to remember complicated things or anything just normal day to day skills.

The way o approach conversations were very interesting and it helped me see a lot of things I may have been ignoring because of my automatic thoughts controlled me or other factors that I was giving so much power over myself.

I do hope to be able to get better with time in this skills, I will practice hard so I can achieve a positive change in all my conversation professionals or otherwise.

Counselor J.L. Prevost brilliantly explains 10 skills to help you communicate more effectively, particularly for difficult conversations. While I am a psychologist and think I communicate fairly well, we all have areas in which we can improve. For me, that is improving my communication during conflict, and thereby enhancing my relationships at work and in my personal life. While much of the content was a refresher for me because of my training, this was a much-needed refresher and I learned many new tips as well.

Serving as a mindful guide, the author makes you think about the purpose behind your conversations and gives you excellent “food for thought” for meeting your conversation goals, with a “Practice Makes Easier” section near the end of each chapter. For example, I plan to apply the ideas on stating “general” common goals, make sure I am validating others’ “reality,” and ensure I describe my thoughts accurately so that my voice is heard.

This book encourages role playing and it is jam-packed with useful examples, scenarios, and modeling of effective communication. This book will not only serve as a valuable tool to refer back to, but I also fully anticipate that applying the communication tips will strengthen my relationships with others in my life.

I received a free copy of this eBook through NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Well structured book with theoretical and practical parts.
The most I enjoyed reading about calming down techniques.

The Conversation Guide by JL Prevost gives many different tips and skills that you can use to better communicate with ANYONE in your life. As he says, "This book was written for anyone that communicates." It begins with an introduction explaining how the book will be broken up and how you can apply the skills taught in your own life.
It is broken up into pre-conversation and conversation. The book is set up as: Teaches you the skills needed, a practice makes per... easier, and then the bottom line (a short summary of the chapters). Overall, this book was enjoyable and easy to read. I would highly recommend it to a friend. (Possible spoilers below)

Some things I took note of:
Try changing your thoughts around a situation so that your body reacts differently. You can't necessarily change your thoughts but you can challenge them. 1)Become aware of your thoughts. 2)Remember that just because you think something, doesn't make it true. Challenge your thoughts and make them more true. 3)Think about how to cope with the worst scenarios. As an over-anxious thinker, this really resonated with me.

Some other things I want to personally apply:
1) Tips for remaining calm during difficult conversations- breathing tops. Practice during all conversations so that it will become second nature.
2)Keep your automatic thoughts in check. What are you thinking, assuming, predicting, and remembering? Are those thoughts accurate and true?

Many thanks to #netgalley for the e-arc!

This book may be good for someone interested in basic communication skills. However, for me, there were way too many triggers in the language used. It brought back negative feelings instead of moving forward.

This book is a helpful guide on how best to have conversations--whether setting boundaries or approaching a tough subject. The book breaks down several steps to having a productive conversation, such as validating the other person and finding time for self-care. Each section has exercises to help put your learning into practice. The book also includes several scenarios to help readers break down what they've read. While I would say that the book is very dry, it's also helpful--I've already found myself using its lessons in conversations at work and in my personal life. Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy!

The Conversation Guide is a brilliant toolkit for work or personal communication. I usually highlight areas I want to revisit after reading a self-help book, but I highlighted nearly the entire thing! Validate, validate, validate! Really useful easy to digest and adopt step-by-step techniques on communicating and setting boundaries, with actual examples and anecdotes.

Highly recommended for everyone.

Many thanks to #netgalley for the e-arc.

Skilfully communicating during times of conflict is an art that very few of us have mastered.
Instead, many of us find ourselves at the end of a challenging conversation feeling misunderstood, hurt and wonderings what the f*@# just happened.

Drawing from her expertise as a clinical counsellor, teacher and communications-skills coach J.L. Prevost equips readers to improve the outcomes of challenging conversations by adopting the 10 foundation skills of communication, so that you can:
- Handle a multitude of challenging conversations
- Set boundaries in your relationships
- Effectively and respectfully end a relationship
- Leave challenging conversations feeling understood, respected and strengthen the relationship

For myself, The Conversation Guide has been instrumental in improving the language used during challenging conversations, validating the reality of others and engaging in positive reinforcement.

TL;DR: A must read for anyone looking to improve their relationships and better communicate their reality.

Special shout out to the insightful J.L Prevost, Prevost Books and Netgalley for this eARC.

The art of conversation is not a natural gift many of us share. The Conversation Guide helps to prepare you on what to say and when to say it - particularly difficult conversations.

Helpful and empathetic overview of a sensitive set of topics. I thought it could have been a little more ambitious in its examples, but for a large part of the audience, this will hit the sweet spot. Disappointed in the typographical errors that never should have made it this far.

It feels silly to be 29 years old and reading a book about how to have conversations about things that are important to me. The fact is, I needed the help and so do most others. We get so caught up in the day to day and the basics that we either forget or do not learn the complexities that conversations and emotions deserve. Prevost uses her counseling, teaching and coaching skills to put together a wonderful guide. This really helped me get down to the basics to understand what I want, what I need, what is getting in my own way and how to have difficult conversations while feeling safe. I am truly inspired and I want my parents, friends and fiance to read this.
