This book has great pictures of what Nevada was like long ago. Great for people who want to see what it was like before the casinos took over.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e ARC of this book.
A great collection of stories from the "real" Nevada. They capture the essence of rural Nevada that few have seen. I did growing up in the 40s and 50s. Thanks to the author for a lot of good memories.

Outback Nevada is a collection of articles from the author and follows unique individuals from the state of Nevada and their stories. The books covers not only the well known areas of Reno and Las Vegas, but also people from smaller towns throughout Nevada.

Outback Nevada is the kind of book where there is a little something for every kind of reader. Some readers will be drawn to the entirety of the book, while others may want to pick up/put down for more specific stories. Either way, Outback Nevada is a really fun read. I went in thinking I knew which sections I would be most interested in.....and then found myself most captivated by the stories on the East and Highway 50. I liked the wide variety of stories covered, with the main commonality being that the individuals all lived in the same state. All in all, I enjoyed reading Outback Nevada and would recommend it to readers with an interest in the area or quirky stories in general.

Thanks to Netgalley and University of Nevada Press for this ARC; this is my honest and voluntary review.

This is sort of a combination travelogue and human interest study. A collection of profiles that originally appeared as newspaper articles. I grew up in rural Nevada (Nye County) and spent well over twenty years out there so it may be a case of being too close to the subject. Many of the stories have a certain sameness to them, people who make their living in the middle of nowhere and isn't it great that they're so self reliant? I've been to many of the places mentioned and met a handful of the people profiled and most aren't all that interesting (especially compared to some of the really wild eccentric characters running around out there).

There are some true misfits, kooks, and oddballs whose spirit for life and eccentric personalities cannot be tamed included here and it's their stories that make up the really good parts. Unfortunately there aren't enough of them to carry the whole book.

As someone who has visited Nevada twice from the UK for road trips to experience small towns, desert and places of historical interest, I was glad to have received a digital copy of this book to review. The author’s offerings of accounts of various people living in Nevada, and their history as well as the history of the state, are rich, diverse and interesting. My thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for providing me with a copy. I enjoyed reading it.
