This was not my favourite book, the title was really intriguing but I had a hard time sticking with the story. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review it.

This was a well-written account of the train disaster from the point of view of Sam, a young boy who was on the train. It was fast paced and gave a good overview of Egyptian life from his perspective as well as an entertaining story of his harrowing adventure on the train with his new friend, Zahara, an Egyptian traveling alone for the holidays. I had not heard of this disaster (or I had forgotten about it) so this was truly eye opening for me. It's written for children but all audiences can learn from this book and the others in the series. There's a section in the back explaining Egyptian culture pertaining to mummies and the discovery of the pharaohs' tombs.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an advanced copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

This book was super fabulous. I would highly recommend it to any 8-14 year old kid who is into adventure books. This is a great addition to the "I escaped" series.

I escaped Egypt's deadliest train disaster follows Sam and his new friend Zahara who find themselves on a train from Cario to Luxor when one of the train cars catches on fire. They scramble to try to alert the engineer that there's a problem while also trying to get passengers to be aware of the dangers on board.

I enjoyed this so much-- from the spunky characters to the setting, it was all so great. There were photos throughout of some of the things our characters were facing. The art was a great additional touch and really added some color to the story. It was suspenseful without being too scary, which I think is a great balance for a middle grade novel.

The end of the book also included quotes from actual survivors of the accident and some historical information about Egypt as well. I think it's really cool that this book was a fun adventure story for kids while also being informational and educational. Well done to the authors!

A fascinating fictional account of a real disaster that happened when a train caught fire. The authors have caught the feelings of terror and panic that were felt by those caught up in the tragic events. It really makes you think about the need for safety when there are so many people travelling.

I very much enjoyed this adventure. The compounding obstacles that Sam faces engages the reader. This is the first of the I Survived series that I’ve read and I can see many of my students connecting with the action in this book.
