This is a cute little story with great, soft illustrations. It reminded me a lot of Little Red Riding Hood. The power of friendship can help you be brave through any scary situation.

Mortimers Picnic is a cute, illustrated children's book about friendship told in a fun way. Full of mishaps and misfortune, little Mortimer decided to take a picnic to his best friend since he's too sick to go to him as planned. Along the way, Mortimer meets some hungry animals. Being kind, Mortimer invites them along, but they want more than the picnic.
This book will teach children about the dangers of strangers and have children shouting to Mortimer to watch out. A fun illustrated read.

A simple story with dynamic illustrations that ill elicit giggles from a certain type of kid. It follows a simple pattern of encountering a predator and then escaping. That repetition will work well with preschoolers.

Mortimer is a little rabbit and his friend is feeling sick so their picnic is canceled. Being the best friend Mortimer packed a picnic basket, a get well card, and took a story book to go see his friend. However the way from his house to his friend is not easy and he came across a snapping crocodile and growling wolf, and a bridge troll. Mortimer’s friend Oogy is very thankful in the end. This book was so much fun. That would be fun to do as a puppet show or a story time read aloud. This is so much fun that it will be used over and over again. It feels like nursery rhymes and classic stories you know told all together at once in a new way .

A very cute story that's slightly reminiscent of Little Red Riding Hood. Mortimer rabbit want's to go on a picnic with his best friend Oggy, and then he finds out Oggy is sick. However, this doesn't deter Mortimer from his plans of having a picnic, it just changes them a little. So he sets out with basket in hand ready to go to the aid of his dear friend, and before you know it he runs into a little hiccup. Once again this doesn't deter Mortimer and before long he's back on track, basket still in hand, determined to be there for Oggy. Moving forward he keeps finding himself running into one spot of trouble after another, but Mortimer is persistent, and he faces down one problem after another, even though he's losing one piece of his picnic at a time while overcoming his troubles. And then finally, Mortimer makes it to his friend Oggy, and this is where you'll have to read the book, to find out the rest of the story. I highly recommend this book as a great addition to any family's library. Happy Reading!

Thank you to the publisher, author, and Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for honest feedback. I thought that this children's book was a delightful read full of beautiful and eye-catching illustrations. Essentially, this book is about Mortimer and his best friend Oggy. Mortimer wants to have a picnic, but Oggy is ill. Mortimer goes on a journey to take the picnic to his friend and faces some obstacles such as a crocodile and a wolf. They want to take the picnic! It's pretty sweet, reminiscent of other similar nostalgic childhood tales. Illustrations are nice to look at as well. Would be great for a read aloud for bedtime.

I love this book with the fun twist at the end. This delightful tale is full of adventure and features a very unlikely friendship.

Mortimer, an adorable little bunny rabbit, and his best friend Oggy, plan a summer picnic together. At the last minute Mortimer receives a message from his friend saying he is feeling under the weather with a bad cold and will not be able to go. Poor Mortimer feels so disappointed and sad. After all the picnic basket is all packed and brimming with homemade treats for the day. He was so excited for the day ahead and was looking forward to spending some quality time with his best friend.

Being a caring buddy Mortimer decides to take the picnic to Oggy instead. The journey to Oggy's house is treacherous. Mortimer encounters an aggressive hungry crocodile, a dangerous salivating wolf and a combative troll who all want to eat the picnic food AND MORTIMER himself! Oh my! Will Mortimer make it to Oggy before he is gobbled up by these predatory bandits?

The illustrations are exceptional. They are bold, bright and place you right in the story. This would be an excellent read aloud as the drama effect is built right in and how fun it would be to see the expression on the kid's faces when they discover the true identity of Oggy. ( I had that look on my face I must admit). Awesome! Yes! This book is a winner and I highly, highly recommend it.

Beautiful illustrations and a fast paced story. I liked what lengths Mortimer would go to to help his best friend. It might be a little scary for younger or sensitive kids.

Mortimer's friend Oggy is sick and Mortimer prepares a care package to help his friend feel better. On the way he meets a crocodile, wolf, and troll that want to keep him from his destination.

The author used bolded text to draw attention to different phrases and words throughout the text. This addition will prompt caregivers and teachers to have the children join in on the story as well as build print awareness., as well as make this a good choice for storytimes in larger groups. Bright, vibrant illustrations with several pages using comic panel style illustrations will engage readers. The sequencing of the story is enhanced by the call back to familiar folktale and fairytale foes, and provides an easy segue for extension activities to build reading comprehension as well as an avenue to scale up for older readers. The natural back and forth flow of the text will keep readers guessing and engaged and lastly, giggling to see all of Mortimer's pursuers receive their comeuppance.

This is a story with a mouse as the main character. All animals talk. I received and read a digital copy.

When you and your best friend plan a picnic and he becomes sick, you bring the picnic to him. Mortimer takes the picnic to Oggy. On his way he comes across mishaps and misfortunate.

A story about friendships and how friends help each other in unlikely ways.

For 7-10 year old readers, they will find a friend in Mortimer.

A special thank you to Windmill Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

What an adorable story with a surprising ending! Kids will appreciate the adventure Mortimer goes on and wonder how he is going to survive his trip to visit his best friend. Meeting others who steal parts of his picnic is awful besides which Mortimer is not having fun.
Wonderful way to express how best friends take care of each other!

I received a free copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Thank you, Windmill Books, for the advance reading copy.

I love the illustrations. They remind me so much of Alice in Wonderland and some animation movies. Kudos to the artist.

However, I have some issues with the story and the writing. I do not want to read books to children about the unfortunate events when we come out for a picnic or animals eating other animals when I know both are facts and will happen.

True friends will do whatever it takes to help you. This story is a funny example of exactly how far sometimes that means going. Very funny.

Hmmm... The way this escalated through repeated beats of the story, I think I expected something a bit more spectacular. Mortimer wanted to have a picnic with his friend Oggy, but when Oggy sends word that he's too ill for it Mortimer decides he'll take the picnic to him – but at every step of the journey someone demands some of the food, and tags along. But it doesn't really do anything with that accumulation of characters – although if I were to ask them they'd disagree, I'm sure. Still, nice to see a story where a sensible response to someone being ill is allowed to be seen, and not a screeching lesson in lockdowns. Three and a half stars, perhaps.

An adorable tale about a rabbit going to see his sick friend with a picnic basket filled with treats. Along the way, he encounters some trouble and some troublesome fellow animals. I think this is a cute book for not only the little ones, but also for the adults.
