A Rose for the Resistance by Angela K. Couch is an engaging exploration of life inside an occupied French village during WWII. The main characters are drawn with sensitivity. Their constant fear and moral dilemmas build tension and pull the readers into the story. The climax builds with insidious slowness. An excellent story well told.

This is book 5 of the Heroines of WWII series, Christian Historical read. This is the story of Rosalie and takes place in France during WWII. She meets a German soldier and they realize they are on different sides but one thing in common they want the war to end. Rosalie is adamant about saving her brother from war, even though he wants to fight for his country. Rosalie is holding to her faith that God will keep them all safe. Can she trust the German soldier to be her friend? What should she do to keep them all safe? Will she find more in her new friendship?

If you want a story about a woman that is strong and determined then read this book. It is book 5 of the series but can be read as a stand alone as each book in the series is about a different female that had to deal with difficulties during WWII. This series is a great read for any age, and puts you into a time that makes you think how they survived and had to deal with hardships and priorities everyday.

I love a good historical fiction read and WWII happens to be one of my favorite time periods. I knew as soon as I read about this book I was going to enjoy it. Add in how gorgeous the cover is and it’s a must read.

If you’re looking for a good read you definitely want to check out this one. And all of the others in the series because they’re all amazing.

France during the war isn’t a place I’m the most familiar with. I enjoyed learning more about what the war was like over there as well as getting close with Rose and Franz.

Once I started on the book I knew it was one of those that I would need to stay up all night reading. I was right and it was amazing!

This story took me over as I read it. Great historical fiction.
Many thanks to Barbour Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

A Rose for the Resistance was written about WWII and touched upon the fact that not all Germans were in agreement with the decisions of their leadership. It was also a novel of courage in an impossible situation. The characters were faced with having to determine when is the time to resist rather than remain complacent. However, resistance came at a cost and took courage. It also was a great reminder of the tremendous loss families suffered during WWII. I found A Rose for the Resistance to be well written and interesting. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley with no obligations to write a review. All thoughts are my own.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The heartache that Rosalie went through, the strength she had to develop to keep her family safe but also to help in the Resistance, and to love.

Rosalie and her brother, Marcel, are part of the Resistance in their town. A German soldier, Franz, who is learning that the war is not what he thought, helps them when a British pilot, Robert, is shot down. After helping get Robert to freedom, Rosalie, Marcel, and Franz start accepting their roles in helping to bring this war to an end. But at what cost to each of them?

The story of Rosalie is one I am sure happened quite often at the time. The want for freedom, the fascination with the attention of a soldier fighting for their freedom, and in the opposite side the attention of a German soldier. But who can be trusted, if anyone. The love Rosalie had was true, for her country, for the Resistance, and also for the men in her life.

I thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

What a wonderful novel. I loved the characters and the author has researched the history and made it a fascinating read. Kept me on the edge of the chair and I didn’t want to put it down. I wasn’t sure who she was going to fall for. A must read.

In the midst of all the enormous pain and suffering of war this unlikely romance blooms. The storytelling is lovely and captivating. I have often wondered about the struggle of conscience that must have occurred during wartime when people were made to fight for a cause they may not have supported. What a struggle between honoring your duty or your core beliefs. The book is intriguing, sorrowful, hopeful, hard to put down, and another fantastic addition to Barbour’s Heroines of WWII series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Barbour for the chance to read and honestly review.

Rosalie, a young French woman, is trying to keep her family together during German occupation. Her father is in a German prisoner of war camp, her mother is distant and cold, and her younger brother is working for the resistance. Franz, a German soldier stationed in France, finds himself conflicted by the war, and no longer believes in the cause. When Franz finds a wounded English pilot, he takes him to Rosalie to be hidden and cared for. Suspicious of Franz, Rosalie is unsure and uncertain.

This was a gripping novel. The characters were well rounded and dynamic. The plot unfolded nicely and did not feel rushed or incomplete. I would love to read a sequel and see where the characters end up. Overall, highly recommended.

Rosalie Barrieau lives in occupied France with her mother and younger brother, Marcel. Her father had been fighting at the front, and is held up in a POW camp somewhere.

The Nazi’s are occupying the town she and her family live in, Sainte-Mère-Église. Times are hard, rations low & fear is all around. Some still have hope, others do not and have resigned themselves to their fate.

The Resistance is trying their best to thwart the Germans and ready themselves for the invasion of the Allied forces, which (according to them) are bound to come to set them free…

Will Rosalie and her family remain safe? Or is their involvement in the Resistance going to get them all killed? And will love be able to persevere during these difficult times?

Lovely story about family, love, hardship & loss. I thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely recommend if you love WWII historical fiction!

Having read several of the other Heroines of WWII books, I was eager to read Angela Couch's A Rose for the Resistance. It did not disappoint. Ms. Couch certainly knows how to write a beautiful story that will touch the heartstrings of those who read it. Set in German-occupied France, readers are introduced to Rosalie and her family who have already felt the ravages of war and the loss of their father and friends. The dangers and fears are realistically portrayed as the characters take part in the French Resistance. Who can be trusted and if captured, what will be revealed? Courage, loyalty, romance, and strong faith in God are all wrapped up in a compelling story of a family during WWII. I listened to a library copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own. Lauren Ezzo did a great job narrating Rosalie and Franz's story which made for an entertaining listening experience.

Amazing:
I absolutely loved reading this book! It was full of tension, danger and suspense yet there were also some emotional and more tender times too. Even though it was set in occupied France during WWII, I liked that overall the tone of the book wasn't too heavy or depressing. It was interesting exploring what could happen if a German soldier stood up for what was right. They were all certainly very brave and it made me wonder what I would have done if faced with similar circumstances.
I enjoyed witnessing Franz and Rosalie's character development and especially their spiritual growth and maturity. I loved their sweet romance that felt authentic and my heart was crying out for things to work out for them.
This was a wonderful addition to what has been an outstanding series about unexpected female heroines during WWII and I liked that this one featured French and German citizens.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Rosalie wants to go back to a simpler time where her father was by her side taking care of their rose garden. Her life seems to be turned upside down when the man she loved is convinced to fight the Nazis as part of the French Resistance. He seems convinced to bring her younger brother into the fight as well. When a German soldier turns a blind eye to her and her brother, she sees the protection that only God can provide and begins to believe again.

The book takes a spin when the German soldier returns back to the area and the two meet again. The author made the book hard to put down as the plot began to thicken when Rosalie decides it is her turn to join the Resistance. Will life ever return back to normal?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. It was historically accurate and made me wonder what I would have done in the situations the characters face. The generation alive at that time was a brave one that we might not quite understand their hardships. I loved how Rosalie’s relationship with the Lord grew throughout her trials.

Although this book is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone. I look forward to reading more books by the author. I would recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.

Two French siblings, a German soldier, and a British pilot become unlikely allies in this new book by author Angela K. Crouch. A Rose for the Resistance is set in France during the years 1940-to 1944, and we see the destruction that the Germans incurred on both the countryside and its people. I quickly became invested in Rosalie Barrieau's initial efforts to keep her younger brother Marcel from joining the French Resistance movement, until she became involved herself. Franz Kafka is a German soldier who aids a British pilot and also offers assistance to the Barrieau family, but is he sincere? Does he truly want to help them, and is he worthy of Rosalie's trust?

Reading this book reminded me of the German's brutality, and it's given me a new understanding of the French who bravely resisted the German invasion. A Rose for the Resistance is a well-researched story that shines a light on the many kinds of devastation that occurs during war, and it's a poignant reminder that men may be forced to fight in wars that they don't support! I was touched by the faith that shines through Franz's character, and his realization that he doesn't support this war. Rosalie's bravery and her willingness to accept a German soldier's friendship make her special indeed! This book is a compelling addition to the WWII Heroines series, and I recommend it to all who enjoy historical Christian romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit & NetGalley, There was no obligation to post a review. These are my own thoughts.

A Rose for the Resistance by Angela K. Couch is the fifth book in the multi-author Heroines of WWll series. How will Rosalie Barrieau keep her brother safe when he wants to join the French resistance? Will the town of Sainte Mere Eglise ever be free from German occupation? When Rosalie is given the responsibility of caring for a downed British pilot, she must decide how much she is willing to sacrifice for freedom. When faced with so much pain and suffering Rosalie was able to think of others and even risked her life for what she believed in. The story was filled with romance, courage and edge-of-your-seat suspense; but most of all hope!

I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

At first, I had mixed feelings about this book. At the beginning I couldn't get into to the story and I didn't really care about Rosalie and Franz. I blame the slow flow of the story. Fortunately, towards the 40% mark things got intense and I became truly invested in the story. Especially, I became fascinated with inner spiritual struggles of main male character. This German soldier got under my skin and surprisingly, I found myself rooting for Franz big time. I did not expect that at all. And I love it when book can surprise me.

"Loss, not death, frightens me."

I really enjoyed all spiritual discussions. It fitted story perfectly and made both main characters came alive for me. This historical romance novel surpassed my expectations and I am really glad that I picked it up.

Recommended to all who are in mood for really thoughtful and emotional Christian historical read!

War is brutal, evil, and chaotic and none knows that more than Rosalie a young woman in war torn France as she must survive for her family and for hope of a better life. Holding out hope for her prisoner father to return home, she does her best to remain unseen and keeping her brother from getting in trouble and killed. But she and her brother, along with others of the Resistance see things differently. She will sit and wait for deliverance while they will fight for it. I thought the author did really well on showing both differing viewpoints and the pros and cons with each.

Unfortunately, the war has come to her door. She has caught the attention of a German soldier, Franz, who seems so different from the other occupiers. Can she trust him and what does he really want?

Franz is a German soldier trying to come to terms with the years he has been fighting for a leader he does not agree with. His troubling past continues to haunt him but the wound he received fighting puts him in an interesting position. Throw in an injured British pilot and you have a story that is seeped not only seeped in danger and resistance, but also of clashing ideas and a surprising love triangle between unwilling participants.

This was a good read about an occupied country and how the citizens strove to live and survive, a soldier and his conscience who strived to break free from his country's leadership, and a forbidden love that would be tested in the battles of war.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres (I’d have a hard time picking a favorite among several) and World War II has long piqued my interest. A novel about WWII, particularly from the perspective of another country, in this case, France near Normandy and Ste Mere Eglise, was a must-read for me.

With its blend of intrigue, peril, danger and romance, the plot is quite captivating. Couch does a marvelous job of drawing you in and keeping you there. The characters are believable and understandable. Their battles with right and wrong, as well as their questions about God and faith, may be relatable to anyone.

For WW II aficionados, the novel is a sine qua non. The book could be finished in a single day. I find that to be both a blessing and a bane because I love to savor books, but at the same time, I want to know what happened!

Angela K. Couch’s A Rose for the Resistance is the fifth (5) installment of the “Heroines of WW II” series. However, it can easily be read as a standalone.
