This is a great entry into the life of Gloria Steinem. Many people know her name but nothing about her life. This book \ is full of interesting tidbits. Particular to this book, the information in the very end is different than what you see in the story, giving more insight to this woman’s life. Overall, this addition is well done and insightful.

Gloria Steinem is an absolute gem of a human. I was lucky enough to meet her when I was in high school. She was the powerhouse behind feminist movements and has truly changed our history and futures.

I always love books from the Little People, Big Dreams series. I learn so much, even as an adult. The biography is written in kid friendly language with resources in the back for further learning. I will *always* recommend these books!

Five Stars!
Even though I was familiar with Gloria Steinem and some of her work, I was unfortunately unaware of much else about her life, so I was very interested in this book. As with the other volumes in the Books in the Little People, Big Dreams series, this book did a great job explaining Steinem's life's work and the inspirations that led to her becoming an activist and leader in easily understandable terms alongside the sweet colorful illustrations that are a hallmark of the series. This series is an important addition to any child's bookshelf, and every time I read one, I wish it was around when I was small.

I am so grateful to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the opportunity to read and review Gloria Steinem.

'Gloria Steinem' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Lucila Perini is another entry in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series.

Gloria Steinem grew up in Ohio with an older sister. Her family travelled around in a trailer and she learned that people were equal, no matter what their gender was, but found that the world didn't think the same way. She was inspired by the women in her life who came before her to become a reporter.

As ever, this series never fails to impress. The art choices almost always seem to be spot on for the prose and that goes for this title as well.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Gloria Steinem is an excellent addition to the Little People Big Dreams series! This book tells how little Gloria Steinem grew up to become an incredible female activist for women's rights and how her input helped change the way forward for women of today. These biographies for children are such fantastic short reads which encourage children to pursue their beliefs and dreams and show how one person can make such a difference innthe world today.
The illustrations are sweet and fit the style of Gloria. The timeline at the back of the book is interesting too for older children and adults to read.

4★
“Together with her friend Jane Fonda, Gloria started the Women’s Media Center which promotes equality through its amazing articles and stories. And she celebrated her 80th birthday by visiting elephants in Botswana.”

Eight years later, on March 25, we wish Gloria Steinem a happy 88th birthday!

But let’s back up a bit. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, US, but the family lived and travelled all over in a trailer.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
Little Gloria, atop the family’s travelling home

She made all kinds of friends in all kinds of places, boys and girls, kids to learn with and play with no matter who they were or where they lived. Everybody was treated the same.

“Gloria felt like she could do anything. She didn’t see any difference between the friends that she made from place to place. No matter their gender, they could do the same things… or even better: they could do them together!”

That changed when she was ten and her parents divorced. She settled down with her mother and discovered schools were not as broad-minded as she was.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
“For the first time in her life, Gloria attended school every day. But she soon realised that girls and boys were not treated the same there.”

The boys are huddled around a table with their male teacher while the girls are still at their desks, looking bored and ignored. That wasn’t the only problem – her mother had always wanted to be a reporter, but they wouldn’t hire a woman. (You begin to see a pattern here, right?)

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
Young Gloria commiserating with her mother on not getting a job as a reporter

She’d never heard of feminism, although her grandmother had been a suffragist who argued for equality. Off she went to college, and when her class went to New York for the first time, she was hooked!

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
“After two years studying in India, she went back to the city, ready to become a New Yorker and all that her mother had ever dreamt of: a journalist.”

You can see from the illustrations and the colourful boots and flares that this is now the Swinging Sixties. She was living her mother’s dream, and her articles became popular. She went undercover for 10 days as a bunny.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration of Gloria in her bunny costume with the caption:
The book doesn’t identify the Playboy Club by name, but the illustration is clear!

Later she discovered people in the Women’s Liberation movement, and she not only joined, she founded a magazine Ms that just celebrated its 50th birthday.
https://msmagazine.com/

She has continued her activism, still leading the way.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
”And little Gloria will continue to inspire new generations of feminists ready to make the most out of their talents. Because it doesn’t matter what gender you are, what matters is that your dream is only yours to determine.”

She is smart, passionate, and effective. The fact that she was not only extremely intelligent, but also strikingly attractive isn’t mentioned, but those attributes and her college connections would have opened a lot of doors others would have struggled to enter. I’m delighted she put her influence (that much overused word now) to good use.

Incidentally, the illustrations show her as a kind of short blonde, when in fact, she has always been slender and fairly tall with beautiful long dark hair in her youth, albeit with her trademark blonde streak. A couple of the little black and white photos at the back show her face better.

A worthy subject for this excellent series. I just wish some of the illustrations appealed to me more.

Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto's Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the copy for review.

My gratitude to Netgalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and the publisher for providing me an e-copy of this book in exchange of honest opinion.

It might sound crazy but I had no idea who Gloria Steinem is. Pathetic right? I'm glad to have read this book as it masterfully summarizes her life and the areas of her contribution in simple, attractive language. Gloria constantly travelled from one place to another in a trailer with her family until she was 10 which is when her parents divorced and she settled with her mom. Then we move on to the turning points of Gloria's life, her journalism career, using journalism as a medium to protest against sexism, how she turned into one of the most highlighted, accomplished feminist leaders. She co-founded the National Women's Political Caucus, Ms. magazine, Women's Action Alliance, Women's Media Center and created 'Take Our Daughters to Work Day' to help young girls understand future job opportunities better. I am in awe of this incredible, energetic woman! The illustrations were beautiful and well-done. As I was a stranger to her activities, I didn't understand what 'spending 10 days as a bunny' meant. I know now, ha ha. Overall, a great read.

Gloria Steinem is a recent addition to this great series of biographies for children. This is a great introduction to her life including her family background, her inspiration to take on the plight of women that promoted women's rights as well as all human rights. She was a feminist, often considered a dirty word, but she persevered with the help of others. She became a journalist and quickly had a huge following although she did experience sexism in the work place. I think she is most famous for her stint undercover as a playboy bunny and it is mentioned in the book in a very child friendly way. Founding Ms Magazine, as well as many pro-women association has made her a person to look up to and emulate for her strength, values, perseverance and fight for the rights of everyone. Gloria pushed the women's agenda - in society, in politics, in life. This is a great way to introduce her to children as well as for them to see how even as a child she saw what was wrong and eventually found others to work with to make things better. As always, illustrator, Lucila Perini adds a great feel to this book with her quirky and detailed illustrations. A book that should be in all school and public libraries.

An advanced copy of this book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review- Thank you!

What worked:
The illustrations were so charming and full of little "Easter Eggs" to correlate to the part of the story.
The author presents the story in chronological order, supplemented by short paragraphs at the end of the book to tie up loose ends.
Cheeky Phrases/high brow humor, especially in regards to spending "10 days dressed as a bunny" where the illustration protrayed her with rabbit ears and a bow tie.

What didn't work:
The story seems to graze over several decades of Gloria Steinem's work and generalize her work as "women's rights/feminism".
I would have loved if the story outlined the policies/groups that are currently in place that are a direct result of her efforts.

Overall, well done! I enjoyed this piece of art and look forward to reading more!

I think that it is great how Little People, Big Dreams series include modern people for their biographies. Gloria Steinem was part of the feminist movement in the 70s and onward. And to this day Gloria Steinem is still fighting for all women's rights.

The Little People Big Dreams series is one of my favorites in children's nonfiction and the Gloria Steinem book is a lovely continuation of the books. This book filled with fun and bright illustrations of the journalist and feminist icon's life- from her upbringing and things that shaped her to the inspirational woman she became. I learned a lot about Steinem's life, even as an adult, and think this would be great for teaching about the feminist movement for kids.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

I just Love this little books by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, must be one of the best little books to purchase for children, these are the best-selling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.

So, this latest book is about Gloria Steinem is one of the latest of her books and this is so beautifully illustrated from start to end. Gloria realised from a young age that the women were treated differently than men, and that wasn't fair. Beginning her career as a journalist, her witty and honest articles challenged readers to see the world through her eyes. Following in the footsteps of her suffragist grandmother, she became passionate about feminism and grassroots activism.

There was so much work to be done, and Gloria kept working – she became a passionate leader in the women's liberation movement and dedicated her life to brining about change. A spokesperson for an entire generation, to this day Gloria inspires us to keep working for a fairer society – for everyone.

This is one book, you should definitely buy for your little readers so they can learn about Gloria Steinem

I am so glad these books are being published and I highly recommend all of these books

Many thanks to Quarto’s Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest reviewRuth Bader Ginsburg by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara

Gloria Steinem really did much to change the world. I found it interesting to learn that when she was a young child, she did not go to regular school and the family traveled from place to place in their trailer. So, when Gloria was 10 and starts going to regular school, she realizes how girls dreams for the future are treated differently then boys.

She had allows wanted to be a journalist. At the time, boys were encouraged to study and get a job and women were encouraged to marry and have children. This felt very restrictive to Gloria. Even during college this was going on. She finally decides to write many articles and women respond to her. She is so popular she starts her own magazine. Many things that girls now take for granted weren’t available then. Women could not even get a credit card in their own name unless married. She fought for equal pay, marriage equality, and equal rights for women.

She did not think it was your gender that mattered, it was your dreams and determination that should decide how you do in life. So, this is a very important message for young girls, but boys as well. If a child thinks there is some sort of unfair treatment, they can use their voice and ask for the needed change. It can then happen. That is the message of Gloria Steinem’s life. This is recommended reading for Elementary Age children and think these books belong in schools and libraries so all children can access them. The pictures done by Lucila Perini added much to this book.

Thank you NetGalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for a copy of this wonderful book. The Little People, Big Dream Series is wonderful.

As always Little People, Big Dreams cannot fail. From the beautiful, colourful illustrations that really set the hippie, flower child vibe, to the unending feminist message, I love this series.

I did not know anything about Gloria Steinem, so I was learning about her for the first time. This book simplifies the life of this figure in a perfectly child-friendly way, and with easy to read language. I always appreciate the fine print at the end of the book, and a list of references for older kids or parents should they choose to read more in depth.

If your child is an aspiring reporter, or if they feel like life is unfair, and the scales are not quite tilted in their favour, this is a great book for them. For moms who want to raise a little Rory Gilmore, this is your daughter’s book series.

From a young girl who sees gender inequality, and fight for it, Gloria Steinem is one woman with a vision, therefore she has this great force to pursue her mission. Although I've never heard of her, but her story is so interesting and motivating. A must have book!

Another strong presence to inspire children, Gloria Steinem has become a part of the Little People, Big Dreams series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. It explains terms in an age-appropriate way to inspire and motivate our little learners. The details are my favorite part of this series, such an easy book to take and build a small study because of the great use of vocabulary and impactful history.
