I didn’t want this one to end! The character development throughout this book is top tier. All of those boys have my heart! We also continue to get more of the Aether and it just wasn’t enough, I would love a spin-off series! Cassiel broke my heart. May I say I would like a pagel and how do I get one? This was filled with action that had me flying through the pages and the found family was to die for.

Spark of Ash by Molly E Lee. This book was just as good as the two previous ones. The familial bond all these characters have is so heartwarming to me. Found family is one of my favorite tropes and the author has executed this fantastically. I truly so love a relatable main character it really helps me get into the story which I really did when reading this.

This was a great finale to the series! I loved this series and am sad to see it end. It definitely takes off from book 2. It’s action packed with tons of twist and turns. Harley and Draven 🥺 I just love them. I definitely recommend this series and this book! If you a fan of paranormal romance this a great story.

Thank you for allowing me to review.

This was not at all what I was expecting from the finale of this series... it was even better! Harley, Draven and Ray team up with, well, pretty much everyone in order to save the day. Talk about intense! I listened to this one and kept finding myself mid-task just staring off into space. Great conclusion to this hellscape!

Loved the final book in the series but sad to say goodbye to Harley and Draven. I enjoyed so much all the world building and hearing about her powers growing and all the changes and trials she went thru.

What an ending to book 2.

Book 3 had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, Harley trying desperately to free Draven and Ray from the Seven.

As always Lee's world building and story telling is immense and gives you some absolute amazing creations to visualise in your minds eye.

I want a Pagel Bagel!!!!

You wont be disappointed if you read this series. Molly Lee hit it out of the park AGAIN and her writing style is so engaging and the world building has drawn me in big time.

Harley is back and ready to kick some heavenly a**!
Well, who could blame her? I mean, she was given the short end of the stick her whole life, found a way to make it through the earthly h*ll, only to find out that HEY, her home was actually there to begin with, discovered her mate, and formed a family out of a motley crew of INCREDIBLE peo...souls...that she can count on to the end of time. Oh, and now one of the Seven with a severe power trip decides to flick the switch on Draven (😍) and interfere with her beloved little sis, just to pull the invisible puppet strings on Harley to do his bidding. ~~ insert evil laugh ~~~ Yeah, about that...she doesn't take kindly to being told what to do, let alone when you're threatening the ones she loves, so get ready for more than a few fireworks because this girl means BUSINESS, and she's bringing it with both guns blazing, or rather her birthright kicking up to full capacity and all the surprises it brings may not be what they were counting on.

O.M.G.
I know, I keep saying that, and I'm really not in the age range for that to be a part of every other sentence I utter, or type, but it's really what you're left with once you've finished this book! It was the perfect ending to what has been a FABULOUS series. It was everything fans could want (well, almost...read it and you'll understand), and didn't even know to ask for. There's everything we came to love from the prior books with steady character growth, familiar faces both welcome and not so much, and new friends to welcome into the fold. Remember Wrath? Say hi to Pagle...dearly nicknamed Pagle Bagle! She's like a mini-wooly mammoth with special powers, and so stinking cute! Then there's the residents of some of the more peaceful realms within the Ather who actually weren't trying to kill our gal Harley while she's on her mission. Of course with the good, there's the bad...and some SERIOUSLY creepy moments within a treehouse that you'd never wish to see...but that's always been a part of the journey. The yin and the yang. The light and the dark. The Antichrist and the Judge. The Rainer and...well, that's a secret, but you'll see when you read it...all about that and OH SO MUCH MORE!

“This is the stuff of Biblical legend.”

From the very beginning, Molly E. Lee’s Ember of Night series has been captivating and intense. Each book has expanded on the previous one.

Eighteen-year-old Harley Ward doesn’t know what easy is. Her whole life she has been physically, emotionally, and verbally abused by her father. The only bright side has been her eight-year-old sister, Ray, and her boss Nathan, who looks out for them as best he can. A few weeks before she turned eighteen, Harley’s life became unusual, to say the least. She met a guy named Draven and suddenly demons were after her blood. In Ember of Night and Shadow of Light, Harley fights for her life on multiple occasions and discovers who she really is. But it isn’t until Spark of Ash that she accepts her destiny and fights against all odds to save those she loves and the world itself.

Throughout this series, I’ve wanted to read/see things from Draven’s perspective. Finally, we as readers get that, with dual POVs from Draven and Harley throughout the book. Seeing the dual POVs shows just how much these two love and care for each other, as well as those people they have chosen to be their family.

Spark of Ash was everything and more of what I thought I was going to get. The story was intense, with Molly bringing out all kinds of emotions. There was happiness, sadness, anger, hope, frustration, and heartbreak. Honestly, there were many times when I felt tears in my eyes. I’ve loved all the books in the Ember of Nights series, but Spark of Ash is definitely the best.

When I got the invite to review Spark of Ash, I almost didn’t accept it. I had read Ember of Night (and loved it) but didn’t get to read Shadow of Light. What ultimately made my mind up was that I was intrigued by the synopsis. I hoped the author would review what happened in Shadow of Light so I wouldn’t be lost. While that didn’t happen, I could still follow the plotline.

Spark of Ash is the 3rd (and final) book in the Ember of Night series. Readers cannot read this book as a standalone. I also strongly suggest reading the series in order.

Spark of Ash had an exciting plotline. Harley and Draven live peacefully on a plane in the Aether when Draven is kidnapped by the head of the Seven, brainwashed, and then kidnapped to kidnap Harley’s baby sister, Ray. Harley is given a quest that could save both Ray and Draven: She needs to find the Seven Scrolls. These scrolls, when united, can be used to counteract the Seven’s power. The scrolls are located in various parts of the Aether and Earth, and each comes with dangers. But Harley is determined to find them, even if that means facing the demons of her past. Can Harley find the scrolls? Can she counteract the Seven’s powers? Can she defeat the head of the Seven? Can she free Ray and Draven? And most importantly, can Harley get through to Draven? Or will she fail?

As I mentioned above, I almost didn’t accept the review invitation because I didn’t read Shadow of Light. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to follow the storyline. I was fortunate because the author briefly reviewed what happened in Shadow of Light before diving into Spark of Ash. Some parts confused me because I didn’t understand what was happening. But that was only for 3-4 scenes. The rest of the book flowed smoothly.

I loved Harley. She was a badass b*tch who would do anything for her family (found and otherwise). It was showcased when she didn’t hesitate to rescue Draven and Ray. She agreed to get the scrolls, knowing she could get hurt or even die. She was willing to risk everything to find them. I really can’t say anything bad about her.

I loved Draven, too, even though he spent 90% of the book with his memories wiped. He cared for Ray, even though he had no clue who she was. I wouldn’t say I liked seeing him as a mindless machine, though. After reading the first chapter and seeing how much he loved Harley and knowing he was in Ember of Night, I couldn’t come to terms with how he was in this book. But, once he got his memories back, man, he was something else.

The storyline with Harley and Cassiel looking for the scrolls was interesting. But I did feel slightly let down by how easy it was for Harley to get some of the scrolls. I was looking for more battles than what was shown. The only one that put me on edge was when Harley returned to her abusive stepfather’s house to get a scroll.

The storyline with Ray, Draven, and the Seven was interesting. I liked seeing how the Seven was splintering on the inside. I was curious about Ray and her abilities, but the author didn’t get into them. I am hoping for a book (or series) when Ray is a little older that will explore them. As I mentioned above, I wouldn’t say I liked seeing Draven without his memories, but that did serve its purpose.

The romance between Harley and Draven was terrific. It showcased that true love can overcome everything. I loved seeing Harley trying to reach Draven on so many levels while looking for the scrolls (thanks to the mate bond), and when she did, it was incredible!! I also liked seeing the beginning of a romance between Ryder and Wallace. Again, I hope for another series or a standalone book in this universe.

I thought the fantasy angle of the book was well written also. Having Hell (aka Aether) be a whole other dimension with layers was fascinating. Harley’s journey through those layers was eye-opening and made me want to read more about this universe.

There were several twists in the plot towards the end of the book. The one with a significant character broke my heart. I kept saying “Oh no, no, no!!!” when it was revealed what that person did. There was a twist with Harley that left me with my mouth open. Mainly because I couldn’t believe what Harley found out; not only did I not believe it, but I also couldn’t believe that this person had stayed in the shadows for so long. The biggest twist, though, was the end of the book. I did not expect it to go the way it did. It only made me want to read more from this universe.

As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, the end of the book took me by surprise. Mainly because of everything that happened and was revealed. The author did wrap up Draven and Harley’s storyline, but I am hoping for more books in this universe.

I would recommend Spark of Ash for anyone over 16. There are mild sexual scenes (kissing but no sex), violence, and language.

Solid conclusion with wrapping up the last loose ends. I would definitely read this full series again and recommend to someone who wants a beginner fantasy

Rating: 2/5

“You’re my mate for a reason,’ I finish, and that certainty fills me with more hope than I’ve ever felt before. She’s fully accepted the bond now so there is no going back. ‘And I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”

The Plot:

Spark of Ash is the third and final installment in Molly Lee’s Ember of Night trilogy. When I started reading the first novel in the series, I noticed some similarities to the A Court of Thornes and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. The overarching plot seemed to be similar, but the characters and specific details were unique to this series and figured that this story would take its own creative pathway with different tropes and storyline. I was wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, I love A Court of Thornes and Roses, so much so I have re-read the series multiple times over, so I still enjoyed Spark of Ash, but only to a certain extent. The problem with treating plot lines as a formula, if you will, is that for the reader who has previous experience with other re-creations will lose interest because of its predictability. Personally, this became worse for me as the series went on. By the time I reached the third book, I found myself struggling to want to find out what happened to these characters and their world. I lost my curiosity.

Characters and Relationships:

Ryder & Wallace

“‘That was adorable,’ he says. She arches her brow at him.
‘Keep joking Judge, and I’ll teleport you to the sky and then drop your ass.’
He grins at her, his fingers on her wrist as he draws her closer. ‘You’d have to shake me off first,’ he says, almost a whisper between them, ‘And I’m known to be quite…clingy.”

I have to say it: this relationship carried. I was more interested in Ryder and Wallace then I was Harley and Draven. I wasn’t expecting their relationship, but man, I was here for it. The banter was so entertaining and experiencing their relationship only through the eyes of Harley and Draven was painful. I feel like I’m a kid again, desperately begging for an ice cream, only to have my mom give me dinner. Ryder and Wallace had so much potential, and though I am usually not a fan of multiple POV stories, I would have loved to see one-on-one interactions between these two, from their own eyes.

Harley & Draven

“‘Did you think we’d be sitting here all those months ago when I asked you to dance?’
‘Pretty sure this was the last thing I envisioned when you asked me to dance.’
‘Strange world.’
‘And what a world it is. And it’s all ours.’

Walmart version Feyre and Rhysand. There were a few moments where I could have predicted the next line. Draven is our feminist of the century while Harley has come into this new, possibly nuclear, power and he is willing to watch her ‘burn the world down and stand by her side’. This felt like déjà vu and unfortunately, I didn’t swoon this time.

Harley & Cassiel

“ ‘If you burn us alive,’ Cassiel whispers, ‘I will never forgive you.’
‘Can you even die?’
‘Yes!’

Harley and Cassiel were entertaining, but again this is a Feyre and Cass situation, I mean the nicknames are even the same. I did enjoy their time together and think it was a really good choice to have Cassiel die for Draven. Cassiel became the martyr of the story and their final battle with the Seven, but I feel that his death would have been more impactful if the friendship between him and Harley had started farther back in the series. Cassiel’s personality really showed in this novel, and I wish there was more of it that had come through in previous books.

Honorable Mentions:

- Rainier was super comical and deserves an award for keeping me on my toes
- Ray and Draven were unexpectedly adorable

The Ending:

“’I go where you go, mate,’ I say kissing her again. She shudders against me, melting into my kiss, and soon were a tangle of breathless kisses and languid touchers, each firey graze reminding us both what we’ve fought for. What we will continue to fight for as long as we live.”

Spark of Ash will get an overall 2/5 from me because of its predictability. As I was reading, I had a consistent ‘I have seen this before’ feeling and it drove my attention to anything else aside from the novel.

That being said, I really enjoyed the unique parts of this story and wished that there was more of the material that I couldn’t have predicted, like Harley’s parents and who her mom is. There is obvious potential for a different story, and I would love to something wholly unique in this world.

I really enjoyed the first two books and was so excited to get an arc of this one. This series is such a girl power sister love story. Harley grows more into herself and her powers on her epic journey and conclusion to the series. It was so neat having more of Dravens pov, who happens to be under control of the big bad. For anyone who loves a good ya coming of age series, pick this one up!

So after that cliffhanger in Book #2 with Draven and Ray. I had to pick up the book immediately! I will tell you that these books just keep getting better. The world building opened up as they searched for these scrolls and continued to fight this ahole Aphian. And Harley did what I would do she was adopting monster pets which sounded adorable and very helpful btw.

Draven is not himself the majority of the book so that's another challenge but the scenes of him falling for her all over again, be still my heart lol. I'm so easy.

You almost scared me at the end there wasn't that much time left and we still were missing a big part of the team but then some big $hi+ happens and I almost threw my book.

The ending was so sweet and just wrapped up nicely. Also loved that Draven's twin Ryder gets a romance tucked in there as well.

Thank you entangledteen and netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.

2 1/2

In the conclusion of Molly E. Lee’s Ember of Night series, the reader is taken on a realm-hopping trip (again) in Spark of Light after Harley’s little sister, Ray, is taken by the ruthless Seven.

My feeling about Spark of Light may be summed up by the fact that I was certain that it was hundreds of pages longer than the two preceding books but was, in actuality, shorter. The story felt extremely episodic in nature as Harley moved from one seemingly harrowing interlude to the next. Some scenes felt like I’d read them before. During what I thought was the climax, my kindle told me I was only at 65%. Bummer.

My issues besides what seemed like interminable (kill me now) plotting was the constant use of “mate” as Draven and Harley referred to each other that just gave me an ick feeling. The pairing up of all possible couples (double ick). Grinning, grumbling, raising of eyebrows. And the killing off of one of my favorite characters. This novel also made me wish that the male lead character could be killed off because Draven and Harley after the first book just didn’t do it for me. You know how all good sitcoms died after the two “will they or won’t they” characters got together? I felt like that here. Without the tension, the romance is just blah.

Ray gaining powers and the mini wooly mammoth, Pagle, were two redeeming features. Oh, and, of course, the wickedly fun warlock, Kaz, and wolfhound, Wrath.

Needless to say, I was hugely disappointed and spent far too long trying to get through the book. If this hadn’t been the last book in the trilogy, it would have assuredly been a DNF.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OHHH I love love loved this book! Molly E Lee nails it again with this book and this series as whole. Between the writing style and the concept, I am sucked right back into this world that Lee has created for us. This is the last book in this trilogy and I am sad to be leaving it but oh does it end with a bang. I loved every moment, every twist, all the feels and so much more. Harley is an amazing character and I am so glad Lee gave her such an epic tale! Time to binge this series as a whole!

We get introduced to some new creatures and see more of the Ather. Loved Pagle. Satisfying conclusion to the story.

This was one heck of an emotional rollercoaster! Chapter 58-60 about destroyed me…so cruel! While I’ll always root for Harley and Draven, it was the side characters who made the story come to life. I loved the support and acceptance of Harley’s found family. I’m going to miss the new world and all the new “friends” I’ve made in the book!

Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Teen for a copy of this book!
