This is only my second Megan Miranda book, but I am starting to understand why so many people love her thrillers/mysteries. This book was really good, and the plot twist at the end? Didn’t see it coming, even though it did take a little bit to actually get there. It dragged in some places, but I don’t think that affected the overall story.

Brief Summary: Abigail Lovett moves to Culver’s Pass, NC and finds a job at the Passage Inn. This area has had a string of unusual disappearances that have not been solved in over 20 years. When a journalist (Landon West) who is investigating these disappearances comes to Culver’s Pass, he also disappears, leaving his brother to come and find some answers.

Things I really liked:
- The overall mystery - as previously stated I did not see the ending coming
- I loved how Culver’s Pass became it’s own character - the details of the area and the ambiance of the disappearances were heightened by the personification of this mysterious area
- The writing style is perfect for this type of story

Things that weren’t my favorite:
- The story was a little slow, but once it got to the good stuff, I couldn’t put it down

BOOK REVIEW 💯 📚

Abigail left her home 10 years ago after her mother passed away. Abigail never knew her father and had no siblings. She winds up in Cutter's Pass, a small town with many secrets, including the mysterious disappearance of the "Fraternity Four".
What is even more chilling is that history seems to be repeating itself with another disappearance, eerily similar to the past.

A little bit of a slower start BUT has a great mystery!
By far my favorite Megan Miranda novel that I have read so far!

Thank you a MILLION to NetGalley for this ARC! What an amazing opportunity 🙌

Megan Miranda is one of my favorite domestic suspense and thriller authors. “The Last to Vanish” is an excellent addition to her collection!

For me, reading this book reminded me of when I first read All The Missing Girls and couldn't put it down. This is the best book I've read by Miranda in a while as it kept me guessing and the way the story was developed was fantastic. Set in a small North Carolina town, notorious for a handful of missing people over the years, the main character, Abby, tells her story of working at the Inn. Trey, the brother of the last missing person has arrived to find answers and conversation with him gets Abby thinking about what she really knows about the people and place she has made her home the past ten years. Good twists, slow building tension, I really enjoyed this one! Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but to be honest, for me Miranda's previous novel A Quiet Place was far superior. This is an excellent, well paced thriller but it fell short in some ways. The writing is solid, there is a great sense of place and the small town identity of Cutter's Pass was well drawn. I love the idea os The Passage Inn and want to go stay there! Megan Miranda is on my list of authors to watch for so I was excited to get a review copy. I was underwhelmed by the first big reveal and predicted the ending. I think it could have benefited from a closer, tighter edit. The pacing seems a bit too slow. The suspsense factor was excellent in A Quiet Place but was missing here. I also cared more about the characters than I did here. I will read the next book by this author!

A great page turning thriller. I loved the setting in the foothills of the Appalachain Mountains. I loved the town full of history and secrets. I was scared of the idea of hikers just disappearing. A great mystery!

Cutter's Pass is notorious as "the most dangerous town in North Carolina" if you believe the headlines. Residents claim that to be patently false, though admittedly a few tourists have disappeared mysteriously over the past twenty-five years, The small town, nestled at the bottom of an Appalachian mountain, is home to a close-knit group of lifelong residents. Abby Lovett is still considered an outsider even though she has lived in Cutter's Pass while working at the Passage Inn for the past decade. When the brother of the most recently vanished guest checks in, his investigation sets in motion a series of events that leads to the revealing of what has really been going on in the quaint little town.
Megan Miranda has written a compelling and twisty mystery that will keep the reader guessing throughout the read. The characters are well-crafted and believable, filling a backstory that will leave you guessing until the very end. An unputdownable read.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this title.

This was an advanced reader copy for review.

This book took a while to get into the mystery and thriller elements compared to some of Miranda's other works. The detailed imagery created an atmosphere full of mystery and intrigue, but the reader needs to be prepared that they are not going to be jolted into an intense mystery right away.

It's a slow burn, but it was definitely worth the read. There were some excellent reveals and twists. The connections between the seemingly different disappearances was fun to figure out as the story continued.

I gave it 4 stars because I enjoyed the mystery and the reveals. It didn't completely suck me in until the last 10% or so, but then I had to stay up lat

Megan Miranda’s new thriller is always my most anticipated read of the year. This book lived up to my expectations and will be a great summer read when it debuts July 26th 2022!
Miranda returns with The Last to Vanish a story about a cabin resort in the North Carolina mountains. The story focuses on the main character, Abigail Lovett, who works and has lived at the Inn for the past ten years. Cutter’s Pass is not only known for its scenic mountains and hiking trails, but also for the mysterious disappearances of hikers over the past 25 years. When Trey West, brother of one of the disappeared hikers, shows up to investigate his brother’s case, Abby finds herself entwined in finding out what happened to the hikers and new evidence that could be incriminating to some of the members in the community.
My favorite thing about Megan Miranda’s novels are the twists and turns that keep you reading throughout the entire novel. There are always multiple surprises that you never see coming, which keeps you on your toes and wanting more. The Last to Vanish had such a twist at the end that made me gasp out loud as I was reading. Although Miranda did a great job describing the setting of the mountains, I could not really imagine it because I am not into hiking or mountain scenes. I also wish I connected with the characters more, but they fell a little flat for me. All in all, another great thriller that will have readers on the edge of their seat this summer. 4 out of 5 stars for The Last to Vanish.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. Abby has been working at an inn in Cutter's Pass, a small town at the base of the Appalachian Trail. Trey, the brother of a hiker that disappeared a year before has come back looking for answers. His brother had been researching the disappearance of several other hikers that had gone missing before him. Abby begins her search for answers as well until it gets her into trouble.
This book was ok. The ending was no revelation and answers were not shocking.

I enjoy reading Megan Miranda's books. This one for me fell short, it was not my favorite. I think there are many others that will enjoy this book, it just didn't work for me. I felt in the very beginning lost and wasn't really sure what was happening. They may have been the intent.

Megan Miranda books are infused with suspense from the first word. She is the queen of creating atmosphere, and this book is more masterful work with mood.

Cutter's Pass, North Carolina has seen more than its share of losses to nature's folly, but Abigail, a relative newcomer of 10 years has made the town her own. Working at a resort near the foot of a mountain, Abby knows nature fickle, but beautiful.

When the most recent missing person's brother shows up, Abby is drawn to question what exactly is hiding beneath the mountain of the town.

Another great, enthralling read from Miranda. Perfect for those who love atmospheric suspense.

Cutler’s Pass is a beautiful little town bordering the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina. It’s well known for its recreational activities….and the number of unsolved disappearances centered around the town. Journalist Landon West has checked into local inn, The Passage, to write about the spate of disappearances, when he goes missing himself. Abby Lovett, manager of The Passage is on hand when Landon’s brother, Trey, shows up looking for his brother. And even though she’s worked at the inn for a decade, local residents close ranks and offer no information or help to either her or Trey. She begins to wonder if the cold shoulder she’s receiving is serving as a cover up. Does someone in town know who the killer is and are they protecting him? Miranda has made a name for herself by writing good, solid procedurals and her fans will enjoy her latest effort

"Cutter's Pass is best known for its outdoor offerings...Appalachian Trail...waterfall." (From the description on Netgalley.)I was sent this book electronically to review from Netgalley. The fun part of this book, if there is one, is discovering who did what to whom? Are all of the missing hikers connected? The setting, North Carolina on the Trail is intriguing in that one must wonder if there is something there that is disappearing the hikers...The protagonist, Abigail, is at the center of this novel...she doesn't know if she can trust anyone in her life...the outcome of this book was surprising to me...I can usually determine the ending...not in this story. The author is talented and gifted, and I cannot wait to read more from her. Do NOT miss reading this mystery...

Description from NetGalley:
Ten years ago, Abigail Lovett fell into a job she loves, managing The Passage Inn, a cozy, upscale resort nestled in the North Carolina mountain town of Cutter’s Pass. Cutter’s Pass is best known for its outdoor offerings—rafting and hiking, with access to the Appalachian trail by way of a gorgeous waterfall—and its mysterious history. As the book begins, the string of unsolved disappearances that has haunted the town is once again thrust into the spotlight when journalist Landon West, who was staying at the inn to investigate the story of the vanishing trail, then disappears himself.
Abby has sometimes felt like an outsider within the community, but she’s come to view Cutter’s Pass as her home. When Landon’s brother Trey shows up looking for answers, Abby can’t help but feel the town closing ranks. And she’s still on the outside. When she finds incriminating evidence that may bring them closer to the truth, Abby soon discovers how little she knows about her coworkers, neighbors, and even those closest to her.
This is my first Megan Miranda book. I have already picked up another of hers to read. This is a slow burn to start. It definitely begins to pick up as Abby makes discovery after discovery and starts to feel like she might not fit it like she thought. It is a very atmospheric book, and the writing really helped pull me into the story.
Overall: 4/5

It's been ten years. Ten years since Abby Lovett came to Cutter's Pass, NC after her mother's death. Ten years to become one of them...a resident. She loves her small mountain town, but it has its flaws, such as having seven And visitors in twenty years simply vanish.

Now Abby meets the brother of Landon West, the last to vanish. He's come looking for answers. And Abby begins to believe they need to be unearthed, even if it means hurting those she loves.

This is Megan Miranda in her top form. Small towns in the woods, close-knit communities, residents with secrets. And the atmosphere of fear and claustrophobia she creates is first-rate. This is my favorite of her books since The Girl from Widow Hills. Read it.

Abigail Lovett let her home ten years ago after her mother passed. She never knew her father and she did not have any siblings. She packs up her car and lands in the resort town of Cutter’s Pass in the North Carolina Mountains. She lands a job at The Passage Inn, and the owner quickly takes her under her wing. A mother/grandmother figure who along with her deceased husband built this resort from the ground up. She has always been an outsider to the locals, but some warm up to her. After all, she is related to the owner’s deceased husband, and she is highly loved by this community.
🥾
One of the benefits of the guests is this resort has a lot to offer, including hiking trails that lead you to a beautiful waterfall. We learn very early on that many tourists have turned up missing, some known to have hiked the trails. An unexpected guests shows up and it turns out he is the brother of the missing and he wants answers.
🥾
This novel is one you won’t put down and full of twists and turns. It had me guessing until the end if the person responsible for the disappearances was a local or a stranger. Abigail is tied to this town and she is torn as she finds clues to who might be responsible. Can she figure out the mystery before more go missing?

Cutter's Edge in North Carolina is a mountain resort with the ominous reputation as the place where people have gone missing over the last twenty-five years. Abby has been working at Cutter's Edge for a decade, as a hotel manager, and living in employee quarters on the property. The resort owner Celeste and her late husband built the resort, and leaves the running of the hotel over to Abby and another employee Georgia.
Abby becomes embroiled in trying to solve the numerous disappearances near the mountains behind the resort, and from the tiny town close by. There are many twists and turns to keep the reader turning pages.
