A helpful guide for those with the tendency to overthink. Some parts were a little dry, but the book contained really good insights and food for thought. I listened to the audiobook which was perfectly narrated by Liza Seneca.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for providing this ebook/audiobook ARC. All thoughts are my own.

This book has been so helpful for me. I learned most of the techniques to battle overthinking in therapy back in college but I had forgotten all of the skills and worksheets and this was a great refresher. In addition, it goes over WHY you are overthinking, how it works biologically, and definitions on types of overthinking and worrying. I believe this is a very thorough and educational book for the youth!

Dr. Smith does a great job of describing the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She utilizes cognitive behavior therapy to walk you through what its like to utilize skills like decatastrophizing, challenging thought viruses and distracting when you're worrying. As a counselor myself, it was a good reminder of the language we can use with our patients/clients rather than the jargon that some professionals tend to utilize, which can be not so helpful. While I was not reading it necessarily for my own enhancement, I felt it was a fairly easy read and definitely easy to understand. So, if you are in the field, easy to blow through and gain some extra skills and extra worksheets (which is ALWAYS a plus). For those of you struggling with overthinking and worrying, take it chapter by chapter, complete each task in the time it takes you as Dr. Smith intends.

This one comes out to the public on May 10, 2022, so definitely go ahead and preorder where you can! It's a five star for me!

If you are in need of this book, you will know just from reading its title. Look inside then and find an excellent resource written in the most accessible way. Start by learning the difference between ruminating and worrying-who knew? From here, readers will come to understand when overthinking can be fine or something for which a person needs help. Hint: If you are overthinking something to which you are looking forward, that is fine.

This book provides so much knowledge as well as ways to overcome overthinking. It is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an effective treatment.

I highly recommend this title for those who worry, for those who know a worrier and for those whose professional life involves counseling the worried. All will benefit from time spent with this book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel for this title. All opinions are my own.

I loved this book. It was like the mini therapy session that I didn’t know that I needed. All of the concepts were easy to understand and also very easy to implement. I would recommend this for anyone who deals with overthinking and is looking for ways to manage it on their own. I tried many of these strategies and they have been very helpful to to me.

I've read numerous wellness books about anxiety, worry, and overthinking, so I thought that I would be familiar with most of the content; however, this one hit differently! There were many new anecdotes or pieces of information that I took away from it. If you feel like you've "read it all," I still recommend trying this one. It won't disappoint!

The Book of Overthinking by Gwendoline Smith An informative and easy read. The book has a good introduction to CBT and it's use in managing anxiety. Included is common sense advice and practical strategies to deal with the anxiety and worry that overthinking creates. The strategies are helpful; however, the humor and illustrations were at times distracting and unsettling. Also, disappointing was the unprofessional use of expletives to describe negative scenarios.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

This book was very insightful!

As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression, this gave me a lot of good tools and things to think about when I'm overthinking small little things.

I liked how the book had little pictures and offered some humor. (Can't go wrong with the F word, and this book has it! Made me laugh)

It was short and to the point! Now I just need to work on IMPLEMENTING the things I learned from this. The hardest part of the journey...

When you overthink, you get overwhelmed and exhausted by so much going on inside your head. Like you take in too much information or there are infinite numbers of scenarios and things that could go wrong and it's a pile under which you can't breathe and you can't carry it. That's why this book helped so much. Because it didn't give too much big information you then twist around in your head and dwell on it until it drowns you. It didn't unlock new fears or scare with the big words that would make you feel crazy. Reading it felt like it pulled me gently out of the spiral of my thoughts and handed me directions on how to manage them. It really felt like therapy and a helpful one! And it was written in a fun, simple way that felt really calming to read and follow.

This book is fantastic. I love how it incorporates parts of Feel Good (my fav CBT book). I have OCD and I read this book during a particularly stressful part of my night and it actually helped me to get to sleep by doing a couple of the exercises included. I feel more knowledgeable after reading and I just really appreciate books like this.

I am someone who overthings everything. I have panic attacks almost daily and I struggle with making even the smallest decisions. This book really helped me understand my brain. I like that its not as serious as some self-help books I've read and it gives actually possible solutions, not just words on a paper. Definitely recommend to anyone who struggles with anxiety, overthinking and decision making.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for granting me early access to this audiobook!
Gwendolyn’s Smith takes you on a discovery of worrisome overthinking, cognitive behavioral therapy, and leaves you with tools and strategies to put into practice when you experience the worrisome overthinking spiral and thought viruses.
As someone with generalized anxiety disorder, this book was not only enlightening on why I think how I think, but it also helped me realize things I can do every day to rationalize and actualize my thinking, and consequently, my behavioral and biological response.
I definitely would recommend this book to not just people with anxiety, but to anyone wishing to change their thinking for the better.

I was so thankful for this book. We always joked about how worried my daughter was about everything, little things, but so many. Until she got sick.
She learns so much at school, plays the piano and violin and goes dancing. And suddenly she didn't want to do anything anymore. She wasn't motivated anymore, she often had anxiety attacks and she was often sick and I started to worry a lot.
I tried to find many books on the subject and in "Overthinking" every word described my daughter.
I was so thankful that I found this book. It is easy to read so anyone can understand it, even someone like me who never thought that overthinking can be bad. I also liked the exercises. This is a great help to recognize the problems in time and to get help as soon as possible.

Such a well written, well researched book. I asked my daughter to read also to get her take on it. Knowing a little about CBT, I wanted to check out this book for a friend who is guilty of overthinking. The information here is well explained in terms which is accessible to the lay reader. Huge respect for the author for her writing style and practical, doable suggestions. I would recommend to anyone who knows someone who needs a sound explanation for cognitive behaviour therapy. My grateful thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for an advanced copy of The book of Overthinking.

This book was an amazing read! It was so helpful and I really felt like I was heard for the first time. Getting to see my anxiety and overthinking-ness out on paper, was really amazing because I felt seen!

THE BOOK OF OVERTHINKING provides strategies on how to use a journalling technique that Smith calls a "Thought Record" to overcome stress caused by overthinking (aka. worrisome thoughts). For readers who already tend to think things through on paper, this will be a useful guide, written in a friendly and approachable tone. However, the book doesn't provide many alternative strategies for people who are, for example, visual thinkers.
