A book that teaches kids about animal relationships in nature.
More specifically, it teaches about animals that co-exist either because that benefits both parties or co-exist in parasitic relationships.

It uses clever and funny art and the way it explains things, is quite simple to understand.
Even I, a person in her middle 20s, got to learn some stuff from it.

The reason I am not giving it a higher rating, is because, after some time, it got boring, but honestly, that's the case with most of the non-fiction I read.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. An excellent book teaches kids about how animals help one another, like the bird that picks bugs off the rhino's back.

Such a fun and fantastical book for kids. The illustrations were spot on and the book ws not too wordy that my younger children could not understand.

A funny book to read, with love-love relationships or love-hate relationships between unexpected animals. Surely you learn biology in an interesting way by reading this book. And so many animals I've never heard to have this symbiose.

Symbiosis is one of those concepts that seems a bit magical when you first learn about it. The idea of vastly different animals working together for their shared benefit makes animals seem just a little bit more human so I can understand the appeal here. What I don't love is the construction. Corrigan presents us first with the cartoon version of the relationship: animals having sleepovers and giving each other makeovers, that sort of thing. It's cute at first but by the last example it's rather tiresome. I'd have preferred just the facts. I did like that Corrigan gives us examples of all three forms of symbiosis: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. Interesting, just a little annoying.

This was an entertaining read,. I am no animal expert and try my best to steer clear of them but it was so nice to know about species I had no idea exist! The title says Animal BFFs but doesn't only focus on the best friends, it also includes admirers/ stalkers and enemies who are deadly to each other. In other, more serious words, it features three different types of symbiotic relationships: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. I love the illustrations and the way the information were presented in a goofy way. The facts are super interesting and not only kids but the adults will also love this book for its humorous, cool approach to learning. Recommended!

Do animals have best friends outside of their own species? Sometimes. But sometimes also their worst enemies. This graphic novel nonfiction book looks at three different types of symbiotic relationships: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. A pair of symbiotes are introduced with one humorous spread hinting at their relationship through hyperbolic humor, and then the next spread gets serious with how their relationship really works and further information about each animal.

This is a very engagingly done book about symbiotic relationships from the animal world. I appreciated that there’s a great range of animals and habitats featured. The illustrations are very fun, especially the goofy spreads. And the information is presented in such a way that kids won’t even realize they are learning things as they tear through the pages. The former science teacher in me was very satisfied with the way the scientific terms were explained. At first I was thinking this was a lower grade book, but it is long enough and detailed enough and the illustration style is so attractive I think middle graders would totally eat it up too. Recommended to reluctant nonfiction readers, curious readers, animal lovers, graphic novel fans, and science classes studying symbiotic relationships.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Animal BFFs: Even Animals Have Best Friends!, written and illustrated by Sophie Corrigan, is currently scheduled for release on April 26 2022. Even animals have best friends, someone that’s always there for them through thick and thin, to help them out with all of the usual things that friends do. You know, like picking ticks off your back, letting you know when a lion is about to make you its dinner and helping you hunt down some tasty prey. The animal kingdom is full of odd couples that prove that sometimes it’s better to be together! Like the rhino and the African Oxpecker, the coyote and the badger, and the crocodile and the plover bird. Uncover some unlikely friendships from the world of animals and discover how creatures get through every day with a little help from their friends. This book is full of funny facts about animals and symbiotic relationships for children to explore.

Animal BFFs is an entertaining and informative read about animal partnership, most mutually beneficial but some decidedly one sided. I thought the illustrations were charming and fun, sometimes fairly realistic but other times having the animals playing games and acting more like people than they really do. I think the art and text are well balanced, and will keep the reader's attention focus on the book and looking to see what it next. I think young readers will really enjoy getting to see animals they know from animated movies get some time on the page here, and it will give them an additional level of interest in the read. I knew some of the information, but other pieces were new to me. I appreciated the glossary and further reading, although I felt like the reading list could have been expanded on a little bit. I think this book will be well received by its intended audience and would be a good resource in school, classroom, public and personal library collections.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for the ARC of this!

My homeschooled kids loved this informative look at the relationships between different pairs of animals. The art style was really cute! We had fun reading about a few pairs a day, and my 5 year old asked if there was a second book yet as soon as we finished 😂

Adorable! The pictures, the text, everything. It is relevant and interesting. My child, who loves nature, has sparked that interest in me and it was a blast to sit down and read through this together! So well done!

A really fun book with a number of unusual animal friendships. The illustrations are anthropomorphic so not the most realistic at times, but I enjoyed learning about a number of unique relationships! Elementary school aged readers will really enjoy this one.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is so fun. I know it is targeted towards children but even at 30 years old, I really loved it. It's so interesting to see how animals know what animals to trust and how to adapt and survive by becoming BFFs with other animals. The illustrations are really cute and detailed without looking too realistic. My little cousin is 10 and he's OBSESSED with science and animals. I can't wait for this book to come out so I can buy it for him. He is going to love it so much.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me a sneak peek of this really awesome book.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Animal BFFs is a really interesting book of animal facts and information about curious Pairs of animals who are friendly in the wild. I found this a delight to read through with the adorable and fun illustrations to brighten up the information for the child reading it.
I learned so much new information about the animals featured in this book and found it amazing to read about.
The book not only teaches children about these unique animal friendships and the benefits of all animals being friendly with other animals in the wild, but it also expands the language of the child throughout the book. Words such as mutuality, parasitism and commensalism are introduced and expanded on for the children's knowledge and language expansion.
I really enjoyed this and found it a fun and informative read.

From under the sea to in the sky, varying species have adapted their habits to get the best chance for food by associating with others. Some might be friendly and mutually beneficial while others are not. This book gives brief yet memorable facts about these relationships. Very colorful graphics keep the readers’ attention and help to remember the details whenever seeing a particular pair (e.g. turkeys and deer) from the book. Very appealing educational book that I recommend be on every child’s bookshelf.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Animal B.F.Fs was beautifully illustrated and engaging. My little animal lover adored all of the animal pairs.

Very informative and allowed us to go on many tangents. The humour was easily understood and enjoyed by both young and old.

This engaging non-fiction picture book shares the ways that animals help each other survive. The illustrations are cute and detailed. Each section shows a pair of animals. On the first page the animals are doing something silly together, like dancing. On the next page, the text explains how the animals aren’t really doing that silly thing, and shows the actual way that those animals help each other. In a classroom or at home, kids could use this book to learn more about animals and their relationships. There are some tricky science-specific words throughout the text, so students may need an adult’s help to understand the text.

Ostriches and zebras; warthogs and Banded Mongooses; Elephants and Baboons; Sloths and Sloth Moths; Bushveld Lizards and Oogpister Beetles-these are just some of the animal buddies who feature in this title. What brings these animal friends together? Young naturalists will enjoy finding out in this interesting and well-illustrated title.

KIds (and adults) will learn about symbiosis in its varied forms. This will help them to understand why certain species spend time together. Be sure to look at the friendly facts that provide additional insights. Read in order or page through; either way there is a lot to learn.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto/Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for this title. All opinions are my own.
