This was a super cute romance! One of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers and this book covers that perfectly. I love Skye and Maya's banter and how the plot develops their relationship. If you're looking for a funny and light-hearted romance, this is your book! Also, if you love Taylor Swift.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy.

I was living for this reality show romance. It was giving me everything M/F reality TV shows like the Bachelor and the Bachelorette never can. This is also the real ending Skye and Teddy should have had in Good Luck Charlie... IYKYK.
Although I read it over a couple weeks because i haven't been making the time to read much lately, when I did open it up I flew right through it. It was such a fun and pretty low-stakes read, although Jordy was such a smug, manipulative, misogynistic bastard.
I wished there was more tension and buildup throughout Skye and Maya's relationship, especially because I'm a slut for a slow burn and enemies to lovers, and this was much more insta love-y. I often forgot they were 18-19, and I think it would have been more believable if they were in their mid to late 20s or 30s like most reality dating shows, but their behaviour and decisions also make sense for their age.
I honestly found that Skye was being unreasonable towards Maya in the third act breakup. Maya's whole reason for being there was exposing Jordy, and they'd only just decided they wanted to be more than a hookup to each other. But since it was definitely insta love-y, I had to take that with a grain of salt. I also think Maya should have just said to Skye/decided that she was going to tell him off at the live finale or nothing. Overall though, in the end, the way things played out were pretty perfect in the messiest way. It wasn't how i expected or wanted it to, but I ended up being really satisfied with it.
I also loved the eventual camaraderie between all of the women - all of Jordy's exes - who became so much more than just his exes or pawns in Maya's revenge game. I had really wished Maya could have had her fiery revenge that she'd planned and Jordy's terrible behaviour could have fully been exposed exactly how Maya had always planned/how you always expect it. But, I am also a bitter vengeful bitch who holds a grudge and it's lovely that Maya took the high road, and Jordy's behaviour spoke for itself in the end.
Anyways, this was such a satisfying read and I loved it! If you're a fan of drama, sapphic romance, the thought of taking down shitty men, and/or reality TV- this is the read for you.

i think i would have liked this a lot more as an adult book. marketing this as ya felt silly and made me enjoy this less.

i found this book scrolling through netgalley and the title grabbed me. i'm no swifty, but who doesn't catch themselves singing along when one of her songs pops up?!
anyway, while the title and the cover piqued my interest, the synopsis grabbed me. i've never been a big fan of shows like the bachelor or any other reality competition series (they always stress me out) but this concept for this show was hilarious to me. i thought back through my roster of guys i've dated before and really imagined what it would be like if one of them called me on to a show like this and what i would do if i were a contestant.
i also loved that it was a layered love triangle in a way. very enemies to lovers between maya and skye and i really liked their dynamic and i loved having an honest LGBTQIA+ representation that did not feel forced or as if it were only a diversity plug. their connection felt genuine and i could feel myself getting sucked into their story.
what made me rate this book less than a champ were a couple of things. the writing felt a bit aged down in some portions. it really felt YA and i'm not sure if that is the demographic for the title and it became confusing at times because i couldn't figure out what ages maya and skye were supposed to be. the other part was, while i appreciated that the author did not fall into pitting all the women against each other, it felt like there was a need for one more villain other than their shared (asshole) ex-boyfriend. it was a very near miss for me but i will definitely be searching for other books from this author.

2.5/5 stars
I think that the biggest criticism i can levy against the book is that the premise just would have worked better in a book that was properly adult.
Here the characters are technically 18, and they find themselves having the kind of adult conversations you'd expect on a reality dating show... but the premise of bringing together a group of exes just feels weird when the characters have as little life experience as they have here...
Like turning in every week to see if someone picks the person they were dating when they were 14 vs the person they dated at 16... it just... it feels a little weird when you're actually forced to confront the premise playing out.
I think that's part of why some of the girls felt a little under developed. Sure, with a premise like this you're bound to have to get rid of characters fairly regularly and so you can't expect them all to get the same level of care. But because of that I think the narrative does a pretty poor job of convincing the reader why Jordy would pick the people he does. At a certain point it really becomes a game of the character we know the best is clearly going to stick around the longest.
I'm not sure that the ending worked all that well for me.
Partially because the subplots here felt a little under-baked and some of the explanations given for actions that took place at the tail-end felt almost comically flimsy. Maybe if I hadn't enjoyed Perfect on Paper as much as did this would have been more of a banger for me. And for the target audience I think they'll get more out of it... but I do wish that the book had leaned more into being a YA book instead of existing in this grey space between categorizations in a way that crossover definitely seems to be the appeal... but if it had really been written for 16/17 year olds it might have felt like I could buy into the premise a little more.

Loved it!! Such a great story of two girls intent on revenge realizing that they like each other more than they like revenge. I hated Jordy so much!

I adored this book. I love reality TV and when it is incorporated into a book, it is perfect! (If it is written correctly.) I loved the bachelor style reality show, with all of Jordy's exes. I love second chance romance, and I love when characters in books get to participate in things like this, that only I can dream of doing. I loved seeing the bisexual representation and the way this book took a turn toward Skye and Maya. I enjoyed this read from front to back. This was my first read by Sophie Gonzales, and I am excited to read her other books.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy.

Whats there not to love in this book? Revenge, reality tv, a love story. Its got it all. Im so glad I picked up Never Getting Back Together.

Enemies to lovers, laugh-out-loud, dating competition to get revenge on your ex, perfect for those who want an escape.
This gave me bachelor vibes, but without the cringe The banter made me want to keep reading, and I really enjoyed how fast-paced this one was. Before I knew it, I was halfway through the novel. as someone who tends to stay away from reality shows for how ridiculous they are, they are even better to read on paper. I was laughing out loud with this one. Who wouldn't want to be locked away on a tv show with the girl your ex cheated on you with? The way Sophie wrote this had me dying for her every word. This was a tremendous queer romcom, and I think anyone who likes dating reality shows will love this one.

even though i'm not a swiftie, i did really enjoy reading sophie gonzales' latest ya novel 'never ever getting back together,' about a dating show called second chance romance. on the show, near-celebrity jordy dates his exes to find out if there's the possibility of a second chance. our main character, maya, is one of those exes, but she's hoping to use the show to expose jordy for the slimeball she knows he is. her plans start crumbling when she's stuck rooming with skye, the girl jordy cheated on her with. but what transpires between maya & skye might be worth more than defeating their mutual ex?
this book was a very fun, very quick read. it's a book easily read in one or two large bites, with a great frame narrative, a romance to make you swoon, and some hilarious side characters. one not to miss!

Maya and Skye have one thing in common: their ex-boyfriend, Jordy. An ex-boyfriend who just so happens to be the brother of the princess of a small country in Europe. The infamy and intrigue that surround Jordy is just enough for him to warrant his own reality TV show, Second Chance Romance, where he’ll be surrounded by exes from different points in his life to see with whom, if any, he can rekindle the flame. Maya and Skye both say yes to the show, but for very different reasons: Maya, to exact revenge by making it to the finale and rejecting Jordy in front of the whole world; Skye, to actually give Jordy another chance, because what they had was good. Little does either girl expect that their attention would be drawn elsewhere – to each other.
This was such a fun read! I got sucked right in. It went by very quickly but I am happy to report I was wholly engrossed in the main duo as soon as they met, wondering how the heck their insta-hate would somehow morph into the opposite. What begins as a mutual desire to defeat their mutual evil quickly turns into an attraction that slowly turns into even more – the realization and discovery was a wonder to watch unfold from both Maya and Skye’s perspective.
I love the girl power, how the other girls on the show factor into the equation. I will say that some of the supporting characters are a bit more two-dimensional, but they served their purpose well and didn’t distract or detract from the story at all. Jordy himself is a cookie-cutter playboy villain – but you need him to be, and he also is just bad enough to justify the humiliation the girls are plotting. In fact, his cartoony villain vibes just made me root against him more – and for Maya and Skye to be victorious.
Just cute cute cute and fun fun fun. Wrapped up in a lovely and neat little bow. The perfect modern day rom com novel. I can absolutely picture this eventually getting adapted for screen.

I absolutely enjoyed this one. The premise was a very interesting one and I was hooked! I had to keep reading to see how it all ended. And boy was I satisfied with the ending! I will definitely be reading more by Sophie Gonzales

I really enjoyed Never Ever Getting Back Together. I have never read anything by Sophie Gonzales but I will try to find other books to read by her now.
I love the concept of a Bachelor type show with the ex wanting another chance. Jordy, the ex, is such an ass and so well written to be the villain for sure.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the e-ARC. This review is my own opinion.

Never Ever Getting Back Together was a delight, plain and simple. Taking all the best tropes from reality tv show romances, adding a little female rage and a whole lot of sapphic love, you get one of the most fun romcoms I read in 2022.
There is no real issue with the book, but on some level, I didn't connect. The good thing is, I know it will find its audience and continue to recommend it to people given the fun, adorable nature of the story.

going into this novel, i thought it’d be a lot like kiera cass’s “the selection” series. and although in some ways it was (many gals duking it out for one man) i was pleasantly surprised with how this romance unfolded. for starters, i was not a fan of jordy. i thought he was a manipulative cheater who didn’t deserve any of the girls … but this plot doesn’t center around him so that’s besides the point. triangle romances have never been my cup of tea but i loved how this novel decided to focus on maya and skye. even though their initial meeting started off on the wrong foot, i’m so glad they were able to look past jordy’s lies and trust each other
"never ever getting back together” was filled with many loveable characters besides our main protagonists. perrie held a special place in my heart for her optimism and glass-half-full mentality. if i were to ever find myself in a situation like maya, i would definitely trust perrie with my secrets and would want her as my confidante, too! and then there’s issac - if we were to compare the premise of this book to “the hunger games” (i thought of that whenever the girls would get dressed up for shoots or for elimination!), he would be our cinna! i admired his loyalty towards maya and skye along with his desire to stir the pot up with the “real” jordy’s drama! i really loved the ending of the book - everything came full-circle and left me feeling super happy!

Sophie Gonzales has created a fun read following contestants on a dating show. The premise is that the lead brings back all of his significant exes to see if they were meant to be. We follow two of the exes Maya and Skye who have been pitted against each other. As they both came on the show for different reasons it was very interesting to watch how this story played out. I look forward to reading more of Sophie Gonzales in the future.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc for an honest review.

I love Sophie Gonzales, and this was everything I wanted. I love the group of characters in this one, Maya, Jordan and Skye were just fantastic.
I just loved the whole book so much. - will reach any Sophie Gonzales going forward.

I wanted to love this book more than I did, but I just feel like it didn’t work for me. It’s more of a personal thing because many other reviewers loved it.
The representation of the characters was very well done, they’re likable and enjoyable to read about.
I absolutely love reality shows and this one sounded so interesting with a dating aspect and a love triangle in the middle. I got the Bachelorette side of the story with our characters, but I struggled a bit with connecting with it since it’s a YA book.
The setting was so interesting. I hope to see this more in future books, but I found myself caring more for Maya and Skye - Jordy was a bit dislikable.
I struggled more with the beginning of the story. The whole time I was waiting for the romance to kick in, but it didn’t until the second half of the book. It also felt weird how it consisted of these girls aiming to win the ex back after cheating with other girls… weird.
There wasn’t a lot of character development between Maya and Skye, and therefore I struggled so much with connecting with their love story. The drama and revenge aspect was too much for me too, I wish the story focused more on developing the f/f romantic relationship.
I still enjoyed the book as a whole. The ending was wrapped up so well, but I wish the two female characters grew more throughout the story. They were lacking at times with their character development, but I can see why many will love this one. It’s definitely worth the read for the rep and interesting plotline.

I loved this one so so much. I breezed through this and instantly fell inlove with the characters. Can’t wait to read more by this author.

This was an adorable read. I loved the interplay between all of the characters and the way the relationships (platonic and romantic) evolved over time.
