Syre and Ethans story was a bit dramatic to be honest
At most it was sweet in a sense, because she didn't want to fully change him.
However the back and forth of him wanting to be changed, she not wanting to change him and on and on.
I felt like I was on a merry go round. (Imagine that going on for a full novel. Yikes!)
Then the Reshad's chasing her and them being Dragons? (Eyebrow raise)
It was actually good it was a novella and not a full book.
It was just enough book, to keep you interested, to finish!
I gave it 3 stars just because it was a short story and most seemed to have liked it.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with this eARC for free, I am giving my honest opinion, with out anything in return.

Easy, quick read, decently likable characters. Competent writing, and a relatively clear, if basic, plot. I really liked the take on the world and how the vampires/vampire hunters were portrayed. Would have liked some more backstory into Syrena and the Reshad, and the whole juxtaposition between them, but I'm guessing that's probably in another of the installments of the series, so no negative marks for that.

That said, it lacked in character development for me. Even in a short story, I want to see some movement forward, or it falls a little flat. The characters just kept repeating themselves - "Oh I love him, but can't do anything about it," and, "Oh I love her, and would do anything for her." They never talked to each other though, so fell into that miscommunication trope so often found in romance novels, which a short novel/story really can't afford. The both ended up giving off some "emo high schooler" vibes.

The erotica portions of the books were handled pretty well. They were pretty straightforward and a bit trite though. I'm not sure if I really like or really hate the "non-sexy" elements that were pointed out multiple times of the whole "gums swelling" every time she was aroused. Honestly counting that as a positive though - having an interesting polarizing feature like that was unique.

Overall, I think either the story/characters needed to be stepped up, or the sex scenes needed to. I don't expect everything to be perfect, but maybe this was a case of trying to do too much in too little time so neither got the full attention it needed? The author seems skilled in her craft, so I really think it might be that. I think these could be great books if they were joined into full length novels and edited. So, not really a "swing and a miss," but more of a "swing and a hit, but a ground out at first."

If you are looking for an easy, paranormal romance read; Syre is for you. The story follows Syrena, the vampire syre, and Ethan, her human lover, as they face danger and find a deeper love. It's got the spicy and some action, which are perfect for a paranormal story. Waters does a good job making the characters real and enticing. Overall, 4 stars.

This was meant to be a short story, but I wanted more! There was a lot packed into this little book - intrigue, susupense, action, love. It was over way too fast! A fun, quick read.
