This was my first Karen King read and boy was I hooked from page 1. I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns and the plot had me gripped till the end.

Sweet simple Dana and polished accountant Sam fall in love and are eager to get married. Sam who is still staying with his parents invites Dana to stay with him in his suite until they buy a house. The story revolves around the family and the mishaps that keeps happening to Dana. It keeps you wondering who is against their wedding and the ending was very unexpected!.

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the gifted copy of this astonishingly gripping novel that will be published on JI.y 29, 2022!

This was pretty good. I would have given it 5 stars if I hadn't figured out the ended. Man I hate when I do that!

This was a page turner! I was rushing to see what was going to happen next, shocked at every turn. I found it to be easily enjoyable, and there was never a lapse in the pacing. Overall, I did enjoy the story. The only I reason I gave it three stars was because the ending was a little lackluster for me. This wouldn’t detract from me reading another book from this author however because she writes very well.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital review copy.

I enjoyed the twists and turns this story takes you through. Right from the start, you know it’s going to be a wild ride.

“Her eyes meet mine and although her face is a mask of concern, I can see the light of triumph in her eyes. She’s won, after all. I underestimated her. My throat is closing up, my lungs are gasping for air, my heart is racing. I’m dying, I realise in horror. I’m dying on my wedding day. I close my eyes as I feel a jab in my thigh. Lynne had found my EpiPen but she’s too late, I think, as darkness sweeps over me.”

Dana and Sam get engaged after a very short time after meeting. Sam still lives with his parents Evelyn and Harold on a gorgeous estate. When Dana moves in before the wedding because their house sale falls through strange things start happening. Dana is sure Evelyn is trying to jeopardize the engagement.

I really enjoyed this book. Some parts were a little slow and Dana got a little annoying but overall a great thriller with a great twist!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this copy!

The Mother-In-Law (Karen King) had my full attention by the end of the first chapter. I hated to put my Kindle down as I really wanted to know what happened next! This is a page turner. I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy to review.

This was another really good, entertaining read that I enjoyed. The Mother-In-Law by Karen King. Maybe you’ve read some scary mother-in-law stories but this book ended up being a little different than what I first anticipated. It was a fun read that broke me out of a reading slump. Another story that offers twists and turns, highly entertaining.

Synopsis:

I’ve fallen in love with a man called Sam. And he’s perfect, just perfect.

It’s a whirlwind romance. And when our dream home falls through just before our wedding, we decide to move in with his parents. He says his mother, Evelyn, is the sweetest person. But I’m not so sure.

She’s obsessively protective over Sam. She wants to know where he is all the time. She wakes us up in the morning, bustling into our room like he’s a small child, not a grown man. She doesn’t want me to be alone with him. And with every day that passes – as I keep having accidents I can’t believe are coincidental – I start to fear more that she doesn’t want me to marry her son.

That she wants to be the only person he will ever love.

Then I overhear an argument between her and Sam’s dad. Evelyn has a secret. And it changes everything I thought I knew about the family I’m marrying into.

From that moment, I know that if I want to make it to my wedding day alive, I will need to be very, very careful…

Out on July 29!

What a story! Goes well beyond the dreaded mother-in-law stereotype! But there's twists and turns you don't see coming. Enjoyed this book from a new to me author, Karen King.

Described as “an utterly gripping Psychological suspense novel”; The Mother-in-Law did not disappoint. This book is a right page turner; that will have you reading until the early hours of the morning (trust me, I’m speaking from experience).

This storyline follows the lives of Dana and Sam, a couple who found themselves very quickly engaged following a whirlwind romance. In the lead up to the wedding, Dana moved in with Sam, who was living with his parents; Evelyn & Harold whilst the couple waited on their “forever home”. However, Dana began to grow weary of Sam’s mother following a series of “accidents”, which resulted in Dana feeling paranoid over the fact that Evelyn was trying to stop Sam from marrying her. As the story unfolds you can feel Dana’s unease and fear over her safety.

Without a shadow of doubt, this is one of the best storylines I’ve read in a very long time. It was phenomenal. It was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat with a desire to want to know more. The twists and turns were captivating from the get-go. I must admit, Evelyn’s character did start to make me see red and then things took a turn!

This book was unfortunately just too predictable. It was a bit exciting at the very beginning but it quickly spiralled in to the same old tropes.

I was really excited to read The Mother In Law, having heard and lived through some experiences myself!

The book was entertaining and kept me turning the pages but at times was a little repetitive and I think the plot was very easy to guess. Dana seemed to repeat a lot of the same thoughts and lacked some personality compared to the other characters.

Nevertheless it’s a nice, easy read. Good for picking up on holiday or dipping in and out of.

I love any domestic thrillers, especially ones where the story line revolves around in laws (I'm very lucky where I love and get on with my in laws!)
This was a really enjoyable read, I did at times feel a bit frustrated that Dana didn't defend herself more against her mother in law who is playing games from the on set when she is introduced to her in laws Evelyn and Harold.
It is a build up of tension until the finale at the end, a really enjoyable thriller perfect for all domestic thriller lovers.

My thanks to Netgalley for my copy of The Mother-in-law, what a book! What a page turner! I was so involved that half way through I had to take a breather because I was getting so annoyed on Dana's behalf!
I didn't guess what was going on although the introduction of Ruby did arouse my suspicions but for all the wrong reasons!
Can't wait to read more by this author.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I really enjoyed this book. It has a few twists at the end which added to the storyline of future mother-in-law trying to stop wedding of her son.

This was a pretty good read. It centers on Dana, who is engaged to Sam, but Sam is just a little too close to his mom. The sale falls through on the house they were going to buy and they are stuck living in Sam’s parents’ house with them until their wedding, with Sam’s mom repeatedly overstepping on the wedding plans. Strange things keep happening to Dana and she fears that her jealous mother-in-law-to-be will ensure she doesn’t actually see her wedding day.

The things that happen to Dana throughout are pretty standard for the evil mother-in-law genre, but fun to read nonetheless. There are a couple twists in this story that make it stand out from similar stories, though, including a surprise ending that I enjoyed. My only real nit with the book was the characterization; I felt like I didn’t really KNOW Dana and also couldn’t figure out how she and Sam fell so helplessly in love right after meeting. I wish the author would have given me more into into what that connection looked like and what Dana’s life was like until that point.

Overall, fun and fast read with some twists that set it apart from similar stories in a crowded genre. I’d give it 3.5 stars, rounded up. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
