It's a good activity book with nature knowledge in it. I think it would be a good present for kids before going on a holiday. In the book it shares many little fun game for kids to play and hunt for rocks, I can see they will like it. Clear and easy to understand, I recommend it.

Show me a kid that doesn't pick up rocks and all manner of things on a walk and you'll be showing me a kid that's never gone outside! This book is a great addition to a young library. Read it before a walk, or bring it with you, to identify all those gems that you find. The beautiful photographs and illustrations are just as infomative as the words themselves. This is a must have for any pre-k or kinder classroom.

This would be an awesome gift for kids before a camping or state park trip. It would even be cool if you were not going on vacation. I love the little ideas of activities and making a pet rock (the blankets bit had me gushing). Loved it!

My children love this series and we have all of the books published so far. I love the balance of informational with interactive. The journal is loaded with information, but has parts throughout that ask kids to search, examine, compare, and investigate as they explore their surroundings. Hours of fun will be had with another awesome journal.

What a FANTASTIC book for young ones to expand their knowledge about the world around them and right outside their door! This book is bright and colorful and so inviting to all! Included inside are many activities for kids to do with the different rocks they find and how to identify the different rocks and minerals they find in their search. I have two boys that absolutely love this book and I plan to incorporate this in my classroom immediately as a teacher. Not only did this book educate my young boys about the intricacies of different types of rocks, but I myself learned so much!!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my opinion.

This is an encouraging book for children to go out in nature and discover things for themselves. Easy language and many photos make the topic understandable.

Gorgeous book and perfect for children aged 4/5+ my son enjoyed it though it was hard to navigate with the NG app as the pages jumped about. Also the magnifying glass which comes with the physical copy would make it all the better.
Full of interesting facts and well presented.

Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for the opportunity to read this book.

This book is lovely. It perfectly matches the interests of my 8 year old rock-loving son. The details have been carefully thought out, from what to take on your rock adventuring all the way to reward patch stickers post adventures. I loved it that a lot of the activities are so simple - notice sizes and colours, sit on a rock and have a snack. This guide teaches children not only the different kinds of rocks in the world, it also includes information on landforms, minerals, gems and the rock cycle. I definitely recommend this book. It would be a great addition to a home library as well as a great birthday present for others. I would like to add it to our list of books to buy.

Having a little rock collector at home, I thought this would be the perfect book. And I was right. This will be a great addition to our science book collection. The definitions are easy to understand and the activities are perfect for any nature walk. Now hiking will never be "boring" again. I know a couple of little ones that will like this book very much and I will definitely recommend it to them. I can't wait to see all the rock art and pets this book will spark to life.

This was great for any young budding Geologist! My son is 5 and really into rocks right now, and if he is still as passionate once he learns to read I'm definitely getting him this book. It was thorough, yet simple, and in my opinion did a great job not only introducing rocks (like, igneous and metamorphic and the scientific names like calcite and quartz, etc) but also what scientists observe about rocks (color, patterns, size, breakability, scratchability, etc). Throughout the book it introduced fun activities as well - while I read an e-copy through NetGalley, it did indicate that the print copy will have stickers to adhere when the reader finds different kinds of rocks in their searchings, but also suggestions of what to do with the rocks that they find, like create cairns or decorate them to make "pets" or line them up in patterns. Kids of all ages will have fun!

This book is an absolute gem! 😉 I’ve already bought a couple in this series, and my kids love them! The illustrations are simple but informative, and there is enough range for my 3 and 6 year olds. I love that it covers landforms that create the rocks and not just categorizing rocks and gems. I also love the suggested activities We will definitely be adding this physics book to our collection.

Also, a note on the physical books: these are the best quality kids books we have. The coves are a firm-but-pliable material and the pages are rip-moisture proof. My kids haul Nature Trail on every hike and it’s never worse for the wear! The only thing that did it in was leaving in the yard overnight in a downpour, and it was immediately replaced. These are wonderful field guides for kids to tote around with them in the outdoors.

We love this series and the Rock Hunt addition is perfect for any nature loving kiddo. We love the exciting illustrations that draw in even the youngest readers, as well as the great information provided throughout the book. The photographs add another element of interest, and it takes all of the work out of having to think up an activity adults. A great grab and go book to take outside exploring- we will definitely keep our eye out for a hardcopy once it's released.

What a fun book for young children! I have yet to meet a preschooler who doesn't enjoy rocks. My own children are constantly handing me rocks and asking to bring it home for their collection. This is a great activity book which has pages for scavenger hunts and different activities you can do with different types of rocks. It's full of factual information to learn about rock and mineral types and also workbook pages for kids to track what rocks they've seen. It's a sweet book for rock hunters both young and old.
