I think some people will love this book and give it more stars but I don’t think it was quite for me because I’m not a huge science fiction fan. The story is set in the near future where a group of scientists have discovered how to send people back to the past and this is being used as an alternative to the death penalty. When one of the scientists and his daughter are accused of murder, Adeline knows her father is innocent, He is sent back to the past while she sets about finding out what really happened to try to save him. The premise is very interesting and the story twists and turns as more is revealed that keeps you interested. I don’t think I completely buy the ending. I struggled with the Triassic parts. This was clever and easy to read but didn’t draw me in emotionally. Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC.

Really enjoyed this book. I was a bit doubtful when reading the synopsis but the tale was exciting and believable (well apart from the dinosaur bit) it rolls along well keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. Will recommend this to others in the family.

A time travel story set in the future where criminals are sent back in time to the prehistoric age to serve there sentence.
Sam and his daughter have been accused of murder. They say they are innocent but when he sees his daughter is going to prison he takes the blame. His daughter is determined to get him free.
I enjoyed parts of this book but found the beginning slow.

This is the most inventive story that I have read in a very long time and that is not an attempt to damn it with faint praise: it is truly excellent and I would have rated it with 6 Stars if I had been able to.

A time traveller's tale of the best sort with intertwining threads that work, just like Quantum Entanglement. Bearing in mind that very few folk have guessed how modern technology would develop, I, for one, am not going to naysay Absolom. Such a time travel machine with bells on will happen just like it does in this book. What worries me and the book is what the world will do with it and that is one of the main things that makes this book such a wonderful read.

Top of your Christmas present list if you can wait that long. Better still buy it today.

I had heard of this book several times before I asked for it and I was blown away by the storyline. I love good science fiction and time travel is always fascinating, but the science of time travel often seems to be given short shrift. Not this time. The story was complex and I had to make sure I was keeping up, but I would rather be challenged then just go along for the ride. Very well done.

Sam Anderson is given a choice - watch his daughter be framed for a murder, or plead guilty to the murder of his girlfriend. Both options mean the true killer goes free, but only one protects his daughter. So it happens that Sam confesses to a murder he did not commit, and he is transported back in time to an alternate universe, to live the remainder of his life in exile from humanity with no hope of return. His daughter, Adeline, is not willing to accept his fate, and sets herself on a path to save her father.

This is a mystery across time and space, with suspects aplenty, hidden motives, and plenty of hard SF discussion of causality. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I felt wrapped up in the intrigue and the science. I wanted to unravel the mystery and see how this story could right itself. I will be honest though - reading the blurb a big part of me just wanted a whole lot more dinosaur action!

If you like a bit of speculative fiction, and a mystery, give it a go.

Thank you to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

What a book! A G Riddle was a new author to me and I absolutley loved this tale about Adeline and her father and the Absolom machine. So well plotted and well written. The back and forth was perfect adnd the dnosaurs weren't too scary. The twist at around 60% came as a surprise but made for an excellent second half to the book. Highly recommended and with thanks to NetGalley, Head of Zeus and the author for a e-ARC to read and review.

Pure escapism. Sci if, murder mystery, fantasy, dystopia - Lost in Time has it all.
Jurassic Park meets Divergent meets Dr Who meets Agatha Christie.
Adeline lives in a place of practically no crime, criminals are sent literally out of this world. Her mum dies of cancer, and her dad (Sam) is doing his best trying to bring up her and her brother. Suddenly, one of his scientist colleagues is murdered, and in order to save Adeline, Sam confesses and is banished from the world. It’s up to Adeline to find him and bring him home, if she can. What will she do to locate him? How far will she go? We follow Adeline’s journey and Sam’s journey as he is sent back to Triassic times, and what happens…….?
Lots of twists and turns, a real page turner.
A little technical and confusing in places, but that didn’t matter to me. I really enjoyed it.

Lost In Time by A.G. Riddle

Thank you Netgallery for an ARC for an unbiased review.

As a bit of a Sci-Fi geek, I'm always wary on new books, as often they can land up feeling similar in style and execution. However I have enjoyed AG Riddle's work before, so was hopeful this would be the same.

I'm glad to say, for me at least, it was. It is basically a murder/mystery wrapped up in time travel. A premise I've read plenty of times, but this was presented in a way that made the mystery aspect fun, the Sci-Fi pretty solid. The only downside (& why it is at 4/5 for me) was the Sci-Fi aspect did get bogged down at times. Yes, Sci-Fi by its nature, like fantasy, is speculative, but all too often I felt it got just a bit too hung up on detail.

Having said that, the way it all unfolded was good and solid. Although I'd pretty much worked out the who, the why I hadn't quite pinned down until later and then the ending really decided to mess with what I thought. Either way, it still felt satisfactory on how the book crafted the journey for all involved.
Sam's journey especially was one I found myself enjoying probably the most.

Twists and turns were all solid. The ending went in a direction that I wasn't expecting and it felt absolutely right for this book.

If you like Sci-Fi books, then this should be one you get as soon as possible to read.

Solid 4/5 stars 🌟

⭐️⭐️⭐️
When I read the premise of the story, I was highly intrigued and instantly requested an arc but around thirty percent into the book, I found myself mind-numbingly bored because it was so slow. The concept is exciting, one I’m sure would appeal greatly to fans of tech and sci-fi thrillers but the story just didn’t hit the right spot for me. It isn’t until a quarter of the story is finished when the mystery element starts to unfold which is enjoyable but the author has included unnecessary chapters regarding Sam’s life in the Triassic which just felt boring because I was waiting for the investigation to start so we could get all the interesting details. There are some unexpected twists and each of the Absolom’s creators have secrets of their own making each of them suspicious at times and their personal stakes add to the excitement so it has the makings of a great story but it didn’t really hit the mark for me. The writing style is also what put me off because it’s so bland and dis-interesting without the necessary intrigue to pull the reader in and moreover, personally for me, there’s so much technical detail that i often got lost in the story. I did enjoy the basic storyline and Adeline’s determined character and how she will stop at nothing to get justice for her father, The overall dynamics between each of the characters was also fun to read because each of them look suspicious in their own way but you’re never really sure. All in all, it was an okay read and maybe fans of time travel and tech sci-fi would enjoy it but unfortunately it was not my cup of tea.

This is a very clever and extremely original sci-fi murder mystery spanning 200 million years. Great fun with wonderful characters and a story with tons of mind-bending twists and surprises. Highly recommended and thoroughly entertaining..

** Lost In Time by A. G Riddle **

Before I start my review on Lost in Time, I would like to point out that I have been such a big fan of Riddle's works. The Extinction Series was incredible and I devoured those 700+ novels within days. I love his subject matter, his usual cast of characters, and the tension and pacing throughout.

Unfortunately, Lost in Time was the worst A. G Riddle book I have read. I am really in shock. I don't know what's happened to his prose. There was SO much telling and not showing. It was painful to read at times. It's hard to feel attached to the characters or the storyline when the writing is so flat. Especially when the author is usually so brilliant!

I hope his writing improves with his next series because Lost in Time was just not for me. Sorry.

Time travel, quantum entanglement, parallel universes all wrapped up with multiple secrets - what's not to like?!! Without writing more about the plot twists and turns, suffice it to say that there are enough concepts in this book to satisfy the hardest of science fiction readers. It was this detail that pulled me through to the end of the book, and to its satisfactory and unexpected final conclusion.

Some of the structure of the early parts of the book (alternate chapters from different viewpoints) could have been more snappily done, and there was some repetition of emotional and character detail that slowed the overall pace of storytelling. This improved greatly with the latter parts which kept this reader awake to find out how the plot was wrapped up. A tighter editing process would have really made the story zing.

Overall, I am glad to have read this, and thank Head of Zeus for the review copy.

I am very impressed with both Lost in Time and it’s author AG Riddle. Having never read anything by the author I was completely overcome with with his writing style and his story line for this book. Brilliant storyline, exciting pace full of very interesting plot lines, wonderful character development and a vast imagination made this one of the best books I have read in a long time. The way he described his locations in the story combined with his descriptives of flora and fauna in the far past was hugely entertaining. The depth of his creative science also impressed.

This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to you. Although be prepared for a late night or two!

A really interesting premise, this was a very entertaining read, even though at times I couldn’t quite understand what was going on, but this was only when it was to do with the physics/quantum side of it. A group of scientists had developed the Absolam machine but not quite in the way they had hoped. It ended up being used by governments to send the most evil convicted criminals thousands of years back in time. Things changed when Sam, one of their own is convicted of the murder of another scientist in their group, Nora.

This is a murder mystery being investigated in an unusual way, which when you add in time-travel, dinosaurs and science makes it very readable. I didn’t quite understand all of it but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book caught my attention with the cover and then you add in time travel and dinosaurs and it sold me. The story hooked me from the start. I loved the familial relationships and the found family of all the scientists. I really enjoyed the dinosaur survival, that was fascinating. I thought I knew what and who and then plot twist, I had no idea. That was one hell of a story. It did get a tad repetitive there for awhile but I understand why it was needed. It was also heavily science involved and I don't know if any of that science talk was accurate but it sounded smart so I'm gonna believe it was all legit. All in all a great story.

An interesting, fast paced story about time travel, family relationships, dinosaurs, murder and quite a bit more. It’s a story with which you just have to suspend belief and go with it as there are some parts that didn’t really work for me. The chapters concerning Sam’s time in the Triassic period were not as interesting as those set in the present and I was glad when the book concentrated more on the events taking place in that period. A clever and “didn’t see that coming” storyline develops about half way through which certainly added to the plot and kept me reading. My interest in the Sci-if genre has waned over the years which is why I’ve only given this four stars but if you are a SF fan then I would recommend it as it an original, well written story.

This is my first book by this author and will not be my last.
What an amazing story! Time travel, dinosaurs, murder mystery, it has it all.
Very well written and believable.

I really liked the way this one started. I am a fan of Science and Technology thrillers, as well as time travel, and the combination of those things plus a cast of intriguing characters drew me in straightaway here. However, when the big reveal came, I must confess that I found it bizarre and unwieldy and while it all tied together in the end quite neatly, it felt a little too tidy and like more of a stretch than I felt the author explained to my adequate satisfaction..

I'm not exactly sure how Adeline would have figured out things as she did so quickly, and the way everything rolled out from there felt a little contrived to me. It was still wholly entertaining - don't get me wrong - and I enjoyed the book. But it required a little more suspension of disbelief than even this type of story usually requires.

Still, the characters were a well-developed and interesting mix, and the plot was certainly original and clever. I would definitely look up Riddle again...

I don’t really read sci-fi but this book flew me away! I absolutely loved the storyline and the time travel aspect to the book. The book is the perfect blend of sci-fi and thriller and had me completely hooked. It’s the first book I’ve read from this author and I’ll definitely be checking out some more!
