I think this book is going to be polarizing; one of those you either love it or hate it books. There are topics in this book of suicide and mental illness, which I did not like how they were covered or used in this book.
The things I did like about this book were:
• the cover - it’s absolutely gorgeous!
• the domestic psychological thriller aspects of this book
• the pacing - it’s fast paced!
• the narration of the audiobook
I would not recommend if you have triggers of suicide or mental illness, specifically bipolar disorder. However, if these things don’t bother you, then it may be worthwhile for you to check out, especially if you enjoy domestic psychological thrillers.
Thank you @macmillan.audio @stmartinspress and @netgalley for allowing me to read and listen to the book and audiobook ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.

This one was not as good as the Good Sister but not as bad as The Younger Wife. Sally Hepworth is very hit or miss for me. This Soulmate was an easy read and enjoyable enough to keep me going until the end, but the "twists" weren't very surprising and the story felt bland. I'm also not totally sure how I felt about the portrayal of mental illness. Lastly, I'm sorry, even if the view is amazing, who in their right mind would live at The Drop, an infamous place for people to jump off the cliffs to take their own lives, if they have children. Overall, 2.5 stars. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it!! The book was definitely not what I expected. There were so many twists and turns. I needed to know if the woman actually jumped or was pushed. Gabe seemed very suspicious, especially since he kept vital information from the police. I loved the multiple POVs. I can't imagine living at a house where people come to jump of a cliff. It's surprising that Gabe and Pipa would move there with two small children. Although after getting to know the couple, it's not. Gabe could get away with anything and Pippa would forgive him. She never held him accountable for anything. She was definitely his enabler. Pippa's parents and sister even moved to keep an eye on her. Gabe was Pippa's world and he could do know wrong. Loved getting to know the couples- Gabe and Pippa and Max and Amanda. Pippa and Gabe thought they were soulmates, but in reality Amanda and Max were truly soulmates. Even though they never spoke it out loud, they loved each other. Max always had Amanda's back. Without Max, Gabe would never had held a job for more than a few months. The ending was completely unexpected and I never suspected what Max finally revealed.
Definitely recommend the book. It was a great mystery/thriller. Loved the characters, story and writing style. All around it was a great book and kept me guessing until the end. This was the first book I read by the author and I look forward to reading more. Love the cover of the book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This felt like a somewhat different take on a mystery/thriller and I really enjoyed it! Told from several different perspectives and in different points in time, the storyline moves fast. I definitely didn't see several of the twists coming. Sally Hepworth knows how to capture the reader's attention and keep you invested in the characters (even if some of them are pretty unlikeable). Thanks to Sally Hepworth, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The world needs helpers for moments like these.
Wow, another nuanced and heartbreaking tale from Sally Hepworth. This was darker and even more melancholy than her others that I've read but I will never pass up a story from her. As usual, she covered an array of difficult topics.
Pippa is married to Gabe, a kind-hearted man who'd give you the shirt off his back but suffers from such highs and lows that she never truly gets a sense of stability. I understood her situation, and it was portrayed so fairly.
Pippa and Gabe live in a beautiful home with a cliff that is a suicide destination. Gabe had saved several people and takes a lot of pride in that. One night, someone he couldn't save went over the cliff and their lives are shaken up once again.
Pip had only taken her eyes off the situation for a moment to care for the kids but when she looked back, the jumper was gone.
This was different from the other times in that Gabe couldn't save them.. or maybe he wouldn't save them? It turns out, that jumper wasn't a stranger..
This was a unique domestic drama and while I stayed interested, it felt a bit long at times with no reveals. The ending more than made up for it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review!

This was a fast paced and enjoyable read. I ended up alternating between the ebook and the audiobook. I loved the narrators and the dual POVs of Pippa and Amanda. I also enjoyed the alternate timelines that both women shared. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the ending. I know I wasn’t expecting it and the storyline kept me guessing the entire time.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth
.
Pippa and Gabe love the view from their house. Unfortunately, it is a popular spot for people to try to commit suicide. Gabe is excellent at talking people down and has saved six people since they’ve moved there. But tonight is the night he couldn’t save someone. And Pippa isn’t sure what she saw from the window.
.
What I liked:
-Things aren’t as the appear from first glance.
-Several interesting reveals.
-Past and present timeline.
-Two POVs, one of which is recently deceased.
.
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A solid mystery for me. I binge read this in a day for a bingo board prompt and it was easy for me to stay invested in the story and not get distracted by my other books. Sometimes I would get a little confused with the timeline so pay attention to if the top of the page says then or now before you just start reading it. 😅

Gabe and Pippa are trying to start over in a new place, but unfortunately their new house is located at The Drop, an infamous place for people to jump off the cliffs to take their own lives. Gabe, however, has managed to talk several people off The Drop and save them. But one evening, Pippa spots a woman at The Drop. Gabe goes out to talk to her, but the next thing Pippa sees, Gabe is standing at the edge, and the woman is gone. Soon she realizes Gabe knew the woman. As questions start to mount, Pippa wonders if her beloved husband pushed her...
This is a fast read about marriage and murder! It was a good read, though I never felt fully invested. There's no one character you truly want to root for and the story is a bit strange, involving mental health issues, marriage problems, angry coworkers, illegal business dealings, and more. The book constantly flashes between then and now, with flashbacks to Pippa's tumultuous marriage with Gabe. There is also a POV from the victim, as she resides in the "liminal space." Some of the time switches are very abrupt, so it was hard to keep up at times. I am also not sure that THE SOULMATE always portrayed mental health in the best light. Its treatment left me feeling a little... off.
There are definitely some good twists in this one, and I flew through it. If you love dark thrillers that explore relationships, you'll enjoy THE SOULMATE.

I apologize but can not read this arc as we are dealing with a health scare concerning my husband at the moment. Thank you for the approval. Will read when this soulmate related drama leaves our household.

The Soulmate is a psychological & domestic thriller that I did not see coming! It follows two couples and their intertwined relationships that are full of secrets & unexpected twists. The author left little breadcrumbs gradually along the way, keeping me interested and wondering what was next. I loved that she revealed details often, but I still couldn’t guess what was going to happen. The story is presented in multiple timelines: Now, After, Then, Before. I expected this to be confusing, but it was the perfect layout for the secrets to unfold.

This story moved so quickly and really hooked me from the start. I flipped back and forth between the kindle and audiobooks, and the narrators were lovely. Didn’t love the ending (him jumping off the cliff, not Pippa leaving) …although I can appreciate things coming full circle.

I usually love Sally Hepworth's books, and while this one started out really promising and kept me reading, I must admit it felt a bit convoluted towards the end. Overall, it was still a good read though. I just wish the ending was done a bit differently.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me an advanced copy of this book! This one was an easy read and definitely had a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. Overall it was really good!

What an exhilarating thriller!!! This book does have substantial conversations/discussions about those that struggle with mental illness and how it affects others. This novel is told with alternating POVs (one is from the deceased), in short chapters. Using the deceased POV to tell the story from what really happened that night, is a clever way to progress the story. Amanda fell from "The Spot" (a cliff outside their home). There are some twists, some escalations, and I thought Sally handled the conversation in her novel well.

4 stars
I can't get enough of Sally Hepworth. Truly, every time I see there's a new book coming from this author, I know I'll love it (or at the very least really enjoy it). _The Soulmate_ is a perfect match with this trend.
Gabe and Pippa make a really bizarre decision (IMO). They buy a beautiful home with a view of stunning cliffs...that are known around town as a popular spot for people who are looking to complete suicide. What's weirder than their general acceptance of this environment is Gabe's engagement with it. He takes it upon himself to redirect folks who come to this cliff, and his success rate is excellent...until the start of this book. It's important to note that folks sensitive to any material relating to suicide might find even the general setting tough to process, so prospective readers should keep this in mind. Did I mention there are small children living in this house? They also have a concerning level of familiarity with what goes on just outside of their home.
The best parts of this book are the twists, especially because (1) there are multiple twists and (2) they're pretty intriguing. Any fan of Hepworth's is also going to expect - AND GET - some really great insight into family relationships here, which was a huge draw for me.
This isn't my VERY favorite from Hepworth, but I did really enjoy it and in the general world of thrillers/mysteries, it's still at the very top. I continue to be so grateful that Hepworth is prolific and putting out only the hits. I'm already hitting refresh constantly to see when the next one arrives!

I love all of Sally’s books (that I’ve read thus far.) so I sort of knew this book would be a hit. It had me hooked from the first chapter, which I crave in books because my attention wanders so easily. I loved the themes surrounding family, as a mom and wife myself I felt it easy to relate to the main character. I thought I had the “twist” sorted from early on, but then another shoe dropped in the end that I couldn’t have predicted. I was slightly annoyed by the main characters loyalty to her husband despite his continued disrespect towards her. But I loved the attention to mental health issues, I don’t feel we see that enough. Overall; loved the book, the writing, and the characters. Can’t wait for it to release in April so you all can get your hands on it!!

Obviously a trigger warning for suicide, metal illness.
This was a fantastic read. Yet another suspense where my jaw literally dropped. The twists! I loved this so much more than the the other novel that I read from her. The characters were so true to life and honest. This book held my interest and made me not want to put it down until it was over.

This book wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t great. For me, it was just kind of blah. This was my first book by this author, and she’s talked up so much so I had high expectations. While it is an easy, fast paced read, I wasn’t thrilled by this book and it didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat. I did enjoy the varying POVs for the book – mainly, I liked reading the dead girl’s point of view after she died. I felt like that was a nice touch and something that I haven’t read before. I also did not see the twist coming at the end between Max (the dead girl’s husband) and Gabe. Overall, it is a decent read that I would recommend it.

⭐️: 3/5
Following a rough patch in their life and marriage, Pippa and Gabe move their family to a new house overlooking a cliff that happens to be a popular suicide spot. Gabe finds purpose in literally talking visitors off the ledge, and he’s always been successful…until one day he isn’t. When Pippa finds out that Gabe actually knew the woman who died, she begins to wonder what other secrets he’s keeping, and why.
This was the first book I’ve read by Sally Hepworth, and I really like her writing style for its readability, which combined with the super short chapters, made this a really fast read for me. There’s a lot of red flags that are made obvious early on in Pippa and Gabe’s relationship, even if Pippa as the narrator doesn’t see them, making Pippa out to be an unreliable narrator. I do enjoy an unreliable narrator, but in this case, I’m not sure if it was done to any real benefit or payoff. I am also not overly fond of characters with POVs after death in books, since I find it a little hack-y when it comes to big reveals and storytelling in general. I found Pippa to be a kind of annoying character honestly, with all her adamant claims about how ~good~ Gabe is, while we’re literally presented with alternative evidence that is right in front of her face. Her blindness to her husband and how people around her feel about him was aggrivating and honestly a little triggering for me to read. It didn’t help garner her any sympathy from me. The ending was satisfying, though anticlimactic, since it made me ask the question “but why though?” since it seems like a lot of the confusion and drama could have been saved by a single conversation. It was one big miscommunication trope of a thriller.
Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!!

This book had me in its grip. The characters, the plot, the what if and then it just evens out. It was disappointingly anticlimactic.
