Soulmate, the newest book by Sally Hepworth was a hard book to put down and kept me reading late into the night. The book centers around Pippa and Gabe, who have bought their dream home, high on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The only problem is that the cliff is where people come to take their lives, jumping over the edge and plunging into the ocean. Since living there, Gabe has become something of a town hero, by going out when he spots a person on the ledge and talking them off, saving their lives. This all comes to an end one night when Gabe fails to save the jumper.
We weave through the story by hearing two POVs- Pippa’s and Amanda, the girl that Gabe was unable to save from jumping. It also alternates between Then and Now timelines to get the full story. I am usually not a fan of dual timelines, I have gotten a bit tired of them, but Hepworth does her’s justice and made sense, making the story seem more interesting to me. The timelines also keep the story moving, showing the characters' uncertainty as it grows and they try to figure out who they can trust.
The story builds slowly, but it is certainly not a slow read, the pace just lets the story unfold at a perfect pace, letting the reader get to know the major players, their secrets, and their feelings. There are twists and turns, and there are secrets that each character holds that will play into the ending.
Sally Hepworth has always brought good suspense, and The Soulmate will join her previous books, making her a go-to suspense read if she isn’t already. You will pick up this book and keep reading from the moment you start it until you close the back cover. Definitely pick this one up.

I absolutely loved this book! I could not put it down and even read it at a sporting event because I was so engrossed in the story. I am reading all of Sally Hepworth's backlist now.
The story and characters were realistic. The plot was fast paced and kept me turning the pages. The "twist" was believable and felt very true to life. Sally Hepworth writes characters that I could see knowing or being friends with in real life. She captures human nature in a subtle, yet specific way that I don't think many authors can do.
I'm still thinking about this book long after reading it and recommending Sally Hepworth to all the readers in my life!

Thank you NetGalley for this arc copy to read! I usually enjoy reading books from this author, however I felt this one wasn’t her best work. It seemed to drag on a bit for me.

Another great domestic thriller for your TBR! The Soulmate was quick, tension-filled, and in true Hepworth style, family dynamics and issues were on full display.
I thought the two dueling POV's from Pippa and Amanda were written brilliantly. I could follow the flow of both these women as we weaved in and out of the past and present day. Constantly on the edge of my seat, this page turner did a fantastic job of building such compelling characters that I absolutely flew through this one.
Hepworth continues to impress and is absolutely an auto-buy author for me!

Sally does it again! This thrilling, addictive novel about marriage, betrayal, and secrets that push us to the edge had me from the jump (no pun intended). Hepworth is one step closer to me crowning her queen of the mystery thriller and this novel was one jewel closer for sure. I loved it!
I love Sally's writing style, she draws you in quickly and doesn't let you go until the end. I devoured this one. I love the alternating perspectives which really drive the narrative and keep things moving quickly. She excels at an unreliable character and this book was filled to the brim with them. You never know who you can trust and even when it's over you still aren't sure. There are twists, turns, moments that pull at your heartstrings, and of course, a good bomb or two.
Dare I say this is the thriller of the summer?? Add this to your beach read lineup to break up the romcom and chick-lit TBR.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Net Galley for this E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars I absolutely love Sally Hepworth as an author. Her incorporation of autism, ADHD, and mental health matters into her books continues to be some of the best. That said, The Soulmate was not my favorite by her.
What I Liked
-ADHD/mental health rep
-Multiple POVs
-Exploration of marriage and fidelity
What I Didn't Like
-Didn't feel invested in characters
-Too many twists
-Somewhat underwhelming ending

While this wasn't my favorite by Sally, I did still really enjoy it, especially on audio narrated by Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry. Told from the perspective of two wives (one alive and one dead) who get caught up in their husband's troubles. I thought the focus on a married couples' struggles, especially when one has addiction problems and eventually gets diagnosed as bipolar and ADHD was especially well done. The 'murder'/accidental death plot kept me guessing as to what actually happened too so overall an entertaining read. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

As usual with a Sally Hepworth novel, nothing is as it originally seems! As The Soulmate opens, we meet Pippa and Gabe. They’re living in their dream house, on the cliffs outside of Melbourne, with Pippa working as a lawyer and Gabe taking charge of their two daughters. After moving into the house, they learned that the location was a popular spot for people with suicidal thoughts, and Gabe has developed an ability to talk with them to stop their plans. He’s been successful seven times over two years, but then an eighth person comes alongside the cliffs and over the edge to her death. But…did she actually die by suicide or did something else happen?
The story unfolds using dual narratives of Pippa and Amanda, the woman who died. The Soulmate explores storylines of marriage, mental illness, infidelity, and criminal behavior. The characters were interesting and well developed, especially when looking at the arc of Pippa and Amanda’s relationships and marriages to their husbands. It’s fast paced and, once again, a novel I couldn’t seem to put down. While there are many twists and turns, the ending is shocking!
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read The Soulmate in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I liked the way this book showed the reality of marriage. So rarely do we read novels where the MCs are passed the lust and obsession phase and instead are so organically entwined in their life you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins.
This book shows how “keeping up “ with our spouse, handling the nuances, and adopting the constant defense of their eccentricities are often well-intended facades. We were shown how these behaviors often manifest out of the need to survive.
This book asks us how much we’re willing to tolerate and how far we’re willing to follow for our soulmates.
3.5 stars because I caught on to the twist nearly immediately.

Thank you for allowing me to read this book as an ARC. This is such an intriguing story line, I could not put it down. I at first did not like some of the. Characters but it all came together and made me understand why they were supposed to be that way.
This book had me glued to it and all the twists and turns were amazing and torally unexpected. I loved this book so much. Well described and also loved how the 2 female protagonists wrote from their point of view, this was truly brilliant!
Absolutely amazing book from this author and highly recommend to read it!!

Pippa and Gabe Gerard seem to have the most perfect family, two beautiful little girls, a new house with a view of what appears to be beautiful landscape, & each other. They’re soulmates.
Pippa and Gabe Gerard soon realize that their new cozy coastal home’s location has very quickly become a fairly frequented spot for people to end their lives. Gabe spends hours talking people quite literally off the edge & in turn saving their lives. But, Gabe can’t save everyone. This time he is unsuccessful and it appears that the last victim of “The Drop” knew Gabe Gerard. This information sends the Gerard’s into a tailspin, especially Pippa.
Does Pippa really know Gabe? Would Gabe do the unthinkable? Little by little the secrets start to unravel & wreak havoc in this small coastal town.

Wow. There is so so much to unpack here!! This book was FILLED TO THE BRIM with secrets, deceit, and juicy plot twists! Sally Hepworth is an instant buy for me.
This book felt different than Sally’s books that I’ve read in the past. I can’t explain it but it was a good different! Sally Hepworth is a master of domestic thrillers, in my humble opinion. This is my 3rd SH Novel.
First of all, Pippa!!!!! She gets a lot of credit in my book. The things she’s dealt with are enough to drive someone insane. She’s the definition of a soulmate. She doesn’t give up on the ones that she loves. I admire her. But, I also feel sorry for her. I don’t want to give too much away, but this book should be on everyone’s TBR!!

I have a confession to make. I sat on this ARC for WAY TOO LONG. I totally forgot about it until organizing my NetGalley projects. This is the first book by Sally Hepworth that I’ve read, but I’m definitely going to be checking out more of her books after reading this one!
This story centers around two couples who are somewhat connected by former business relations: Pippa and Gabe, and Amanda and Max. Gabe and Max were former business partners who separated under tense terms.
In unrelated news, Gabe bought a house on the sea for his family - with a famous backyard nicknamed “The Drop”. The steep cliffs made it a morbid place for people to commit suicide. Over the years living there, the family have had to shield their children from the truth and dangers of their location, and Gabe himself has been able to successfully talk about half a dozen people out of jumping.
One night, Pippa sees a woman very close to the edge of The Drop on a cold, windy night. Gabe immediately runs out to do his normal routine of talking the suicidal person out of it, but when Pippa looks to see what’s happening, the woman is gone, and her husband is standing at the edge with his arms out - futilely grabbing at nothing.
We soon find out this woman was Amanda, the wife of Gabe’s old partner. When Gabe doesn’t disclose his acquaintance with Amanda to the police, Pippa is left wondering and worrying about that making him look guilty. Max would surely find out where his wife took her life, and getting him to not go to the police becomes just one of the many challenges this couple will face.
This was written from the first-person viewpoints of Pippa and Amanda, both “then” and “now”. In the now, Amanda is dead but stuck in some kind of limbo, and she watches over her husband. I love how this was written from those viewpoints, and how great the writing was overall. I thought this might be a slow-burn, but it wasn’t (and I appreciate that in a book!).
I was going to give it four stars all along, but the ending has me rounding up to 4.5 stars. It, as the rest of the book, was written quite well and had a good amount of eyebrow raising/jaw dropping details. I really enjoyed this one.
(Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, Sally Hepworth and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be published on April 4, 2023.)

Sally Hepworth’s best yet - fun & fast-paced with a satisfying ending (for once!). Pippa’s husband, Gabe, is a local hero in their small town, talking people out of killing themselves off the cliffs by his house. One day, though, he fails…. and then turns out to know the woman. Thrown into a whirlwind of uncertainty, Pippa is determined to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.

Sally Hepworth's The Soulmate was a book that I was excited to read as Hepworth is an author I enjoy. The Soulmate was interesting and I'm still not sure what to think of it. The pieces of mental health and suicide were brought in well, except with Amanda and Max at the end. I feel like 'soulmate' was just thrown in or around, but wasn't developed as well it could have been. I did want to know how everything would turn out and devoured the book within a day.

Another great, fast read from Sally Hepworth! As always, Hepworth does an amazing job in painting the scenery of this book. Usually, (spoiler alert) infidelity in a book is something I avoid, but this was expertly crafted. Max was a really, really compelling character, and I would have equally loved to see the book from his perspective rather than Pippa, who was *fine*. 3.75 stars rounding up to 4.

I tore through this book and was surprised many times - not an easy feat for a well-read English teacher! Highly recommend if you like suspense novels. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Sally Hepworth tells a story of how far someone will go to protect their spouse. I enjoyed this book because Sally showed how mental disorders not only affect the person but how they affect a family. The Soulmate had several twists that I didn’t see coming. I would definitely recommend this book.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is about a family who lives in a dream home, only it faces an infamous suicide spot. Pippa admires her husband Gabe for being able to stop people from jumping to their deaths. Until one day he doesn’t, and it turns out the woman who jumped, Amanda, was someone from their past. Was it merely coincidence, or is Gabe hiding something more sinister?
This book is like watching a soap opera with the amount of twists and turns, lies and deception, and never knowing who to trust! The chapters alternate between past and present, from Pippa and Amanda’s point of view. I liked the way the story was told, but felt like it dragged on at points. Be aware of some content warnings, such as suicide, mental health (bipolar disorder), infidelity, and loss of loved ones.
Thank you St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the advanced copy to review. The Soulmate publishes April 4, 2023.

I did not like this book as much as I have past books by Ms. Hepworth. I think the characters were not working for me. I finished the book, but it was really difficult toward the end. As with any mystery, I wanted to see how things would end.

3.25 stars out of 5. I like how this story explored different types of marriages and the sacrifices people make for each other. For some reason, this one didn't grab me and pull me in as most thrillers do, although I was still interested. I kept mixing up the two male characters and they were even described as being kind of similar looking, so that made it more confusing. It has a pretty good twist toward the end and I liked the ending. The middle dragged a little. Some of the jumping around in time made it hard to follow, and I usually don't mind when I story is not told in a linear way. Not sure why this one was not for me, overall it was a good story but the pacing was off. I almost forgot to say my favorite POV was the person who dies in the book, their insight from beyond the grave was an interesting plot device that gave the reader insight that the main characters (who are alive) do not have
