Wow! What an excellent thriller! I could not put this one down! The Soulmate is packed with twists and unexpected turns. What a wild ride. Sally Hepworth does it again.
Pippa and Gabe live a life everyone dreams of. Two perfect children, a loving family and undying love for one another. They live in a gorgeous house set on a cliff. The cliff is known to locals as The Drop. Sometimes, people will come here when they’ve decided to end their life. Gabe is a sort of hero because he’s known for convincing people to step off the ledge, quite literally. But one person will change all of that.

I wanted to like this one so much but I struggled so hard to get into it. I couldn't connect with the character and there was something about the pacing that felt off. DNF @45%.

Such a fast, engrossing read! Marriage and murder? Yes! Pippa and Gabe seem to have the perfect marriage. But nothing is perfect. Living in a house by a notorious suicide cliff, Gabe is able to talk many out of ending their lives. But on this day, he didn’t. And why did it look to Pippa like he pushed her? Max and Amanda had a wonderful life together, until she discovered a secret that sent her to the suicide cliff and to her death. How are they connected? What did Gabe do? This book really highlights the complexities of marriage and the choices we make every day. I couldn’t put it down! Five stars!

The Soulmate was my first read by Sally Hepworth. I know after finishing this book it will not be my last!

I loved how this book was written in dual POV and dual timelines. I had a hard time putting this book down. Granted it did start off a bit slow for me but by the end I did not want it to end! It became very fast paced about a quarter way in and the twists and turns, wow!! I did not suspect the ending at all!!

I don’t want to give away too much about the story but all I will say is that I loved Amanda!

I really enjoyed this one! I read it in one pool sitting (the setting didn’t hurt!) and was here for all of the secrets and family drama that Hepworth does so well! Would definitely recommend for fans of Sally Hepworth, mystery lovers, and anyone looking for a good poolside/beach read.

Short chapters with alternating perspectives in a thriller? Sign me up. This really sets the pace and keeps me wanting to read more - I feel like I’m flying through the pages and each perspective seems to give us piece by piece of the puzzle. This is even more enjoyable with the buzz of something deeper happening just below the surface. It seems like everyone has a secret to hide and they’re so interwoven that it’s hard to figure out if anyone is really trustworthy.

In the end, things really were not as they seemed and I did not anticipate how it would all play out! I really enjoyed the layers of the story and complexity of the drama, it kept me engaged throughout.

Sally Hepworth described her upcoming release, THE SOULMATE, as a “peculiar murderous love story” and she certainly delivered on that front. The story follows Gabe & Pippa, a married couple who live near a steep ocean overlook in Australia. While the location is dreamy, the ominous cliffs are a notorious spot for people looking to end their life.

On a tranquil evening at their beach cottage Gabe attempts to rescue a potential jumper on the cliffside. Pippa watches from inside as a horrifying scene unfolds: did Gabe have a hand in the woman’s death?

In true Sally Hepworth fashion, the chapters were compulsively readable and the characters had many layers to them. I loved the way she explored marriage and how well we know our spouse. In addition to the plentiful twists, the mental health representation was thoughtful and not glossed over.

I binged this page-turner poolside on vacation and it was exactly what I was in the mood for. Pick up THE SOULMATE if you enjoy coastal settings, dangerous cliffs and propulsive cliff hangers.

RATING: 4/5

Gabe and Pippa live in a lovely ocean front home and have two charming little girls. From the outside looking in they are a young family who has it all. The cliff beyond their house is known as The Drop because it is a favored suicide spot, but Gabe and Pippa have become quite good at responding to and talking folks down from the edge. One night, however, a woman jumps under somewhat mysterious circumstances. This begins a string of events in which secret upon secret comes out in a twisty thrilling ride. There is mental illness, betrayal, infidelity and marriages are tested. Well written, engaging, and well paced. This one is difficult to put down.

This book took me surprise. It resonated me in ways I wasn’t expecting. Love how the relationship of both couples were revealed to the reader. I didn’t think the big scandal of the affair/kiss and the mystery funds were enough to warrant the “suicide” or wanting to get rid of the USB. I was expecting a more dramatic reveal as to “why”. Nonetheless, this book was wonderful.

This is an exciting, edge-of-your-seat thriller by an author I'm growing to love more and more with every book! In the Soulmate, a husband and wife are dealing with a crisis in their lives. A woman jumps from the cliff behind their house and they must deal with the emotional turmoil that comes after. The husband tried and failed to talk her off the cliff. As he refuses to deal with the situation, his wife begins to become suspicious. Did he know the woman? I was so curious to find out what the secret was that I flew through the book! It is a definite page-turner! Highly recommend.

My first Sally Hepworth book was an absolute banger! This book had me hooked from the start. I feel like I went into this relatively blindly, but even if I hadn’t, there’s no way I would have figured out these twists. I loved the dual timelines and dual perspectives, though I will admit I sometimes forgot which character was narrating. The setting was super atmospheric, and the slow burn kept me totally hooked. The ending might not be everyone’s favorite, but I personally loved it and found it incredibly different from most thrillers. This will be a hit for all domestic thriller fans, and I’m excited I have Sally Hepworth’s whole backlist to read after loving this!

Another stand out thriller by Sally Hepworth.

Mental health is not something that is easy to write about; I find myself simultaneously loving and hating the main character’s husband Gabe throughout the entire story. I wanted to shake Pippa many times and scream “can’t you see!? Are you blind!? He’s bipolar!!”

The ending was very unanticipated and clever. All in all an amazing domestic thriller.

I have read all of Sally Hepworth’s books, and already can’t wait for the next one!! This nail biter will keep you hooked until the end. Mark your calendar for April 4th and read this book!!!

I always enjoy Sally Hepworth's novels and this was a quick and interesting read. The Drop made for a unique setting. I really wasn't sure where this was going and I didn't expect it would end the way it did. I liked Pippa and loved the way she accepted her husband's lovechild without reservation. Her family walked a thin line between offering support and being a bit intrusive--but they certainly had her best interest at heart. I look forward to Sally's next novel!

What a delightful surprise for an avid reader to find a novel that leads you to so many assumptions and be surprised on all of them! The Soulmate provided twists and turns and I was unable to let it go until the the very last page. Gabe and Pippa’s story kept growing and developing deeper depths with every chapter. Sally Hepworth has provided an excellent five star work of fiction that keeps you pondering even when the book is closed.

The short chapters and multiple POVs and going back and forth between the present and the past make this one a quick read (and also means that there are nearly NINETY chapters!) There were a few twists that I saw coming, and I few that were a surprise! But nothing too terribly groundbreaking. It took me longer than I care to admit figuring out this took place in Australia. Overall, a decent thriller - 3.5 out of 5, rounded up to a 4.

Gabe and Pippa seem to have it all, A perfect family and a perfect home in a sleepy costal town. But their perfect house has a sinister cliff near it, a cliff where people go to end their lives. Recently Gabe has saved most of the lives that go to that dreaded cliff. Until he fails to save one and what does this now dead woman have in connection to them?⁣

I really wanted to love The Soulmate, when you read a summary like this one you are just instantly drawn to it. This was a good read and there was nothing in particular that put me off from the story. I was just hoping to get more out of it and I kept waiting for an unexpected twist that never came.⁣

Overall, I would say this is a pretty average read but still a great one to unwind and enjoy! The Soulmate releases April 4th so keep an eye out, if you are interested in reading.

This book was not what I was expecting but I completely loved it. Pippa was such a loving mom to her daughters and husband.

Loved the story!
