Thank you so much Netgalley for the gifted ARC of this one!
I wanted so badly to love this one but I found it just okay.
Overall the story was interesting. Something I haven’t read before in a thriller but the middle seemed to drag.
I liked how the story went back and forth between past and present and back and forth between Pippa and Amanda.
I liked Amanda’s character the most. She seems to be the only one who had a good head on her shoulders.
I wanted to smack some sense into Pippa for dealing with Gabe.
I also didn’t really care for the ending. I was waiting for that “wow” factor but never got it.
Overall this book was just okay for me.

This was an exciting book and thought it was well written. The author did a great job with the characters. 4 star read!

When a woman jumps off the popular suicide spot next to Gabe and Pippa’s home, they are devastated Gabe wasn’t able to save her like he has for so many others in the past. But once Pippa learns that the woman was not in fact a stranger, she finds herself asking, was it really suicide?

I loved how the story unfolded in this book. The two different perspectives and timelines that were slowly woven together made for such an interesting read. After the end of every chapter I just kept wanting to read more and more.

The characters were interesting and complex, yet mysterious, which made for a really great story. I knew all these characters were connected in some way, but the twists and turns made it so every guess I had was rerouted to another.

I also really appreciated the way she talked about mental health and not only how it affects the person who is experiencing it, but also all those who love them. It was very powerful.

I would definitely recommend this book if you’ve enjoyed any of Sally Hepworth’s pervious books or if you like a good family suspense story.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and statements are my own.

Sally Hepworth is becoming one of my go to authors. She mixes thriller with a little bit of romance for a good balance that also keeps you guessing until the very end.

The Soulmate is one of those guessing games. A last minute twist at the end had me flipping back a few pages to confirm what I’d just read. It was a dual perspective read but really 4 timelines between the two of Then and Now but SH keeps it flowing so seamless that you’re not confused by the multiple characters.

Pippa has it all. Handsome husband, beautiful family, seaside cottage, the perfect life. But there’s something about Gabe…

Gabe is the “it” guy. Charming, good looking, smoothing talking. But he’s currently jobless and acting a bit flighty.

Enter Amanda. Amanda wanders by Pippa and Gabe’s cliff side home, and gets a little too close to “The Drop,” which is a well known spot for those looking to end their lives. Gabe sees Amanda at the cliff’s edge, but by the time the police arrive, Amanda is gone. Gabe claims she jumped, but Pippa isn’t so sure…

The Soulmate was a solid thriller that was a wild ride! I did not see the twist coming, and now I need to read Sally Hepworth’s other books. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the digital ARC!

I really love Sally Hepworth as a mystery writer, there's always an additional layer to her books that deepens the mystery and domestic thriller into a treatise on something bigger. In this case, it's about marriage and what the characters are willing to put up with and what they are not.

To me, the only note that I didn't quite love was Amanda's narration from the grave because I just don't really enjoy that method of explaining things about deceased characters. That being said, her final chapter narration almost made up for the device... almost.

I really enjoyed Pippa and her character arc, especially as she grew more and more aware of who Gabe is and what he is willing to do without regard to her or their children. You get the sense that she suffers a lot in silence, despite there being no outward abuse or neglect. Pippa is like many people, though we would rather not recognize it about ourselves. She's willing to be the selfless one so that her partner can succeed and flourish, even when it comes at a personal cost to herself.

I devoured this book, from the first chapter I was invested. Sally Hepworth truly knows how to set a looming atmosphere. While the ending was a little anticlimactic for me I really enjoyed the setting, characters and storyline. Would recommend to anyone looking for a thriller! Thanks for the ARC, publishing date is 4.423!

Sally Hepworth has written one of my favorite books of 2022. She continues to create complex characters and her plot development is unparalleled. She is the queen of plot twists and continues to write the best thrillers on the market. The entire book I continued to wonder if Gabe's intentions were genuine or dark. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! This was a decent book, sort of middle of the road for me. There were lies, deceit, acceptance of lies, more deceit and more acceptance of the lies. Each chapter is from the viewpoint of one of the characters, from the past or in the present. I found that if I stopped reading mid chapter, I had to try and remember who was talking and whether or not it was the past or the present. I also kept waiting for a big, "oh my gosh moment' and while the plot twist in the end I did not figure out, it still fell flat for me. Trigger warning for suicide.

Special thanks to St Martins Press for my netgalley copy of this book.
I loved this book! I’ve read other books that Sally has written so this was a book I was looking forward to and I’m glad it definitely delivered.Told between two characters pov and short chapters made this quite a page turner. The chapters alternate between Then, Now, and Before and keeps you guessing right to the very end. Just when you may be thinking you have it figured out there’s another twist. This one will keep you at the edge of of your seat and wanting more. You’re not gonna want to miss this one!

The Soulmate is yet another great novel by Sally Hepworth! This one definitely kept me engaged from start to finish and provided a few twists that I wasn't expecting. Definitely recommend.

This was a good, not great, but good. Quick, concise chapters. Interesting and unusual POVs, Easy to keep up with what is happening now and what has happened in the past. In my opinion not a true thriller.

Gabe and Pippa own a cute cottage on the edge of a cliff. But the sharp rocks below them is a very popular place for people to end their lives..Gabe and Pippa are usually lucky enough to talk to jumpers off the ledge. But one night Gabe "fails" and the girl jumps. Pippa later find out that Gabe knew this girl.. So there is a question of if he knew her.. and what she knew.

I was given an Arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book took me a very long time to actually get into! I was very underwhelmed and had a hard time connecting with the characters. After a certain point it did get interesting enough to finish. Not my favorite book by her but a solid 4 stars!

A Cliffhanger of a Book!

This is not my first Sally Hepworth book and it won't be my last! We are taken to the cliff house where outside the window is The Drop. The family...the wonderful husband that can talk anyone down from a cliff. The stead fast wife that can overlook everything. The high tech job that was an absolute dream to land. Put these all together, and you'll be at the edge (of your seat). I finished in less than a day. It's a page turner for sure. 5 stars, highly recommend.

Overall I felt underwhelmed by The Soulmate. I loved the concept (and the author) but it was slow and confusing at times. There were some great twists that kept me engaged and made me keep reading. I think if I was able to connect with the characters more I would have found it more enjoyable.

When Gabe and Pippa move to their dream home near the coast, they discover that they also live right next to a cliff that attracts many looking to end their lives. Gabe has managed to save many such souls. Until the one time he doesn't.

And when Pippa discovers that Gabe knows the victim, and when things get sketchy when the police come to visit, she begins to doubt what she saw that day: did the woman fall or did Gabe push her?

But would her soulmate lie to her? Or is their marriage on a cracked foundation....

I was thrilled to receive the invitation to read this book. I've read and enjoyed all of Sally Hepworth's books and this was no exception. I thought this one moved a little slower than her others, but it was a satisfying read overall. Told from the two main female characters in both the past and present, I found it really interesting that she told the narrative in part from the victim in death.

Special thanks to St. Martin's Press for inviting me to read this title through Netgalley in exchange for a review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒 was my first book by Sally Hepworth, and after devouring this in two days, I can confidently say it won’t be my last!

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬
Before the woman went over the cliff, Pippa and Gabe were happy. They have the kind of marriage that everyone envies, as well as two sweet young daughters, a supportive family, and a picturesque cliff-side home, which would have been idyllic had the tall beachside cliffs not become so popular among those wishing to end their lives.

Gabe has become somewhat of a local hero since they moved to the cliff house, talking seven people down from stepping off the edge. But when Gabe fails to save the eighth, Amanda, a sordid web of secrets begins to unravel, pushing bonds of loyalty and love to the brink.

What wouldn’t you do for your soulmate?

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬
This domestic thriller was written beautifully with wonderful characterizations and tons of twists. Told in both dual perspectives AND dual timelines, the short-chaptered structure made for a fast-paced, addictive read.

I loved the juxtaposition of the two couples and the evolution of their opposing marriages as the plot unfolded to finally reveal the soulmates. I also found that the issue of mental illness was handled in a remarkably realistic way and ably highlighted the effect it can have not only on an individual, but on their family as well.

The ending was gratifying if a little too neatly packaged, but overall 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒 was a solid 4.5 stars and an amazing read that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for lots of satisfying turns and marital suspense!

Many thanks to the author, @netgalley, and @stmartinspress for allowing me an advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review. Pub date April 4, 2023.

OMG this was SO good. I am thrilled that I was given an advance copy of this book because now I know to pre-order it so I can own it for myself and tell everyone I know to buy it. There were so many twists that I didn’t see coming but none of them came from so far out of left field that they were nonsensical, which is the perfect balance in my opinion. The relationships were complex and nuanced and I found myself really enjoying the flashbacks and rooting for the different couples at different times for different reasons. I also thought the inclusion of Amanda’s perspective from the afterlife (or whatever you want to call it) was creative. I didn’t LOVE any of the characters but I didn’t hate them either - they all had their own motivations and struggles and the author did an excellent job of showing these and humanizing each of the 4 characters despite any mistakes they may have made. The writing was a high point as well. I could really picture the small coastal town and many of the scenes described, from pivotal moments of action to little details of Gabe and Pippa’s interactions with their daughters.

Without a doubt, a 5/5. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
