Having read several of Sally Hepworth's books, I am grateful to NetGalley for an e-book copy to enjoy of The Soulmate. This is the story of Gabe and Pippa, who lived in a small seaside cottage on the edge of a cliff, and often observed someone who wanted to end his life over that cliff. It came to happen that Gabe actually knew one of the victims who jumped, but many secrets came unanswered to what actually happened. A very good read, and I look forward to more from S. Hepworth.

I've loved every book by this author so far. This one was more thriller than her last couple of books, and I really enjoyed it.
The book starts with Gabe and Pippa, who live a little too close to The Drop, a popular suicide spot. One day Gabe sees a woman near the edge and goes to speak to her to try to help her,but the woman ends up jumping.. Or does she?
Told in dual and alternating perspectives, we find out what led the woman (Amanda) to the cliff. I really enjoyed the different perspectives, and the twist was unexpected but realistic. Definitely recommend, and as always, looking forward to the next read by this author.

Wow! This book blew me away. 5 stars no questions asked. From the first chapter I was immediately hooked, and stayed that way throughout the entire book. I loved the fast paced but intricate plot line, the morally grey characters, and the multiple POV's (one which was done in a unique and fun way you don't normally see). The ending tied everything together perfectly, and kept me guessing until the climax of the last chapter before the epilogue. It was such a fun read that kept me on the edge of my seat. Highly recommend.

This was my favorite book so far by Sally! It releases April 4, 2023. Every time I put this book down, I just wanted to find a few more minutes to squeeze another chapter in. It kept me entertained from the very beginning until the very end. I continued to try to figure out what twists and turns would come.

This story follows Gabe and Pippa. They have just moved into their dream house with their 2 daughters but the tall cliffs behind the house have become the spot where people come to end their lives. Gave becomes a local hero, saving person after person by talking them off the ledge, until one night he doesn't. Pippa sees Gabe the moment after it happens with his arms outstretched and palms facing out.....

Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC of The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth!

WOW Sally Hepworth does it again! I could NOT put this book down. So freaking good and I can't wait to make all my friends read this book!

At first glance, I did not think I would be interested in a book about suicide. This book is not about suicide. The suicide cliff plays but a very small role in the telling of this story. The Soulmate is really a book about marriage and the trials that go along with it. A well written mystery with some interesting family dynamics thrown in for good measure, with likable and relatable characters.
Thank you for an ARC of The Soulmate in exchange for this honest review.

Pippa and Gabe are starting over with their two daughters in a small coastal town outside of Melbourne. They purchase their dream home on a beautiful seaside cliff. They didn’t realize until after they moved in that the cliff behind their house is a popular suicide spot. When Gabe sees a person close to the cliffs one day he goes out and talks to them for 7 hours, but eventually convinces them to go home. Since they have lived in the house Gabe has managed to convince an additional six people to turn around from their plan at the cliff.
One day a woman approaches the back of their house; nice looking, early 50’s. Assuming it is another person wanting to jump from the cliff, Gabe goes outside to talk with her while Pippa calls the police. As Pippa watches her husband, she sees his arms outstretched, palms up and then woman is no longer there. Did her husband try to help or did he push the woman over the cliff? Once Pippa discovers the woman’s identity she realizes that this could ruin everything.
Told from two POV’s: Pippa’s and the dead woman, Amanda’s. You get to see both perspectives as the secrets and lies come out. Nothing is quite what it seems and nothing will be the same again.

Sally Hepworth did it again! This is probably my favorite of her books that I've read.

Pippa and Gabe Gerard are happily married. They bought their dream house that just so happens to be near a cliff....a cliff that happens to be a popular suicide spot to jump off. The first time they realized this, they happened to look out the window that faces the cliff and they see someone standing at the edge of the cliff. Gabe rushes out and is able to talk to man down, saving his life. Then he does it again, and again! Soon, Gabe is known by the police for talking people out of suicide. Until one day, he isn't able to save someone..

Pippa watches from the window as Gabe talks to the woman standing on the edge of the cliff. The next thing Pippa knows, her husband is standing with arms outstretched and the woman is going over the cliff. She jumped!....didn't she? There's no way she was pushed.....right???

The story is told through two POV, Pippa and Amanda, the woman Gabe wasn't able to save. Told through past and present we learn the events leading up to Amanda's death as her death is investigated in the present.

Oh my! This book was a whirlwind that I couldn't stop! Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is as it seems.

If you're looking for a thriller that is hard to put down and keeps you on your toes the entire time, this is the book for you! I highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

“The Soulmate” is another thriller masterpiece by Sally Hepworth. Living near a local suicide spot, Gabe and Pippa have seen their fair share of suicidal individuals. Despite this, Gabe has been able to talk every person down….except for one. Pippa believes she saw Gabe pushing this woman off the cliff, but she doesn’t want to trust her own mind.

This next part of the review will contain spoilers!

What it got right:
As someone who has an extensive educational background in psychology, I was kind of irritated about Gabe’s diagnosis from his psychiatrist. I immediately knew this was incorrect. However, ADHD is one of the most over diagnosed conditions, and about 40% of people in general have a misdiagnosed mental disorder. So while this annoyed me, it was incredibly accurate. It can also be difficult to get help as a loved one of someone suffering from mental illness.

I enjoyed the complex relationship between Max and Amanda. I honestly enjoyed reading about them more than Gabe and Pippa. It shows how people can be portrayed as one thing but they’re actually another entirely.

What it could improve on:
I would have loved more from Max and Amanda’s perspectives. I wouldn’t have minded if they were the center of the story more than Gabe and Pippa.

Overall I would definitely recommend this book to others and I believe it’ll be very successful when it’s published!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read an ARC of The Soulmate.

Pippa and Gabe have moved to a new home with their two young daughters on the cliffs in a coastal town near Melbourne. They’re enjoying their new life, but when Gabe fails to stop a stranger from jumping off those cliffs, everything changes. And Pippa isn’t so sure that her husband is completely innocent in the stranger’s death…

Reading The Soulmate is like riding a rollercoaster, in the best way. We follow two couples in the present, as well as the events in their past leading up to the current circumstances. Each chapter brings a shocking new revelation about their marriages and their intertwined histories. I really enjoyed the thrill of never knowing what to expect in this novel.

I always love a story with multiple POVs, and there was a lot of good depth to most of the characters. The exploration of marriage dynamics, and what can make or break a marriage was an interesting theme throughout. Overall an entertaining and gripping read!

TW: suicide, mental illness

A couple buys a house on a cliff where the husband has had to talk people out of jumping to their deaths. But one night a woman appears on the edge and cannot be saved.

I enjoyed the characters, the backstory, the alternating point of view. The ending was surprising to read as it played out. I didn’t see the twist coming. Certainly a quick book readers will struggle to put down in one day.

This novel provided a dual purpose for the reader: to entertain and educate.
The story unfolds on Gabe and Pippa, a loving couple: handsome, successful, cute daughters, beautiful home in an idyllic setting. What the reader subsequently finds out what has evolved to get to this point.
We also meet another couple, Max and Amanda  whose relationship in the story parallels and intertwines with Gabe and Pippa.
It is Pippa and Amanda (who is dead) who tell the story.
Gabe is a god: doting, stay at home father, kind, talks would be jumpers off of cliffs, constant energy but he has an undiagnosed disorder that affects his life……mental illness. The author exposes how families adapt to behavior, tries to explain it, pursues ways to treat it and all the while trying to live a normal life.
Max is a very successful businessman who has had dealings with unsavory characters that put him in danger but his priorities was always the safety of his wife.
It’s an exciting story with inside look at mental illness and what couples will endure for their soulmates.

✨This book was captivating from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down. It didn’t wow me with a major shocking twist but had some subtle twists and turns throughout. This book was about marriage, secrets, betrayal, infidelity, mental health, suicide, and murder.
Sally Hepworth is an amazing writer! I loved The Good Sister and can’t wait to read all her other books!!

Thanks so much @netgalley and @stmartinspress and @sallyhepworth for this ARC ebook!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story about a seemingly nice family. The more we dive in, the more we realize there are quirks, then there are issues, then diagnoses, and so forth. The story-telling is masterful, short paragraphs alternating between two different characters and two different time periods, then and now. Really keeps you guessing and wanting to know what happens and why. A very quick and fun read. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I am a huge fan of Sally Hepworth and always get giddy when I see she has a new novel coming out. This book was no exception,

Gabe and Pippa move to an outlying area, also known as "The Drop" often people use this as a method for suicide. However, Gabe is usually able to talk people away from this, until one day he doesn't.

This story goes back and forth between characters and honestly, I had no idea what was coming. This book kept me up all night and was just fabulous. I don't know how Hepworth does this, but hope she keeps it up.

This was well written and flawless

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC.

And here I thought she outdid herself with The Younger Wife! Well I was wrong!
I have held off from reading this one because I knew I would run right through it like a damn freight train.... And that's where I was right! Because I literally did not put my Kindle down. Ok, maybe three times.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is utterly addicting.
I have no clue how she does it but this author brings the thrill EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
It is ram packed with deceit, lies, secrets and filled with twists and turns which will knock you sideways.
Smart, suspenseful, brimming with secrets of marriage and betrayal.
It is fast paced and has big reveals that I was not expecting.
Another stellar read from one my favorites that had me immediately hooked and completely riveted.
