I really enjoyed this book! Kept my attention well and I finished it in 2 days. A few twists at the end that I didn’t see coming made it worth the read.

This hit a little too close to home since I have a spouse who has similar issues as the husband in this book. In fact, his storyline for diagnoses was eerily similar. I know the author probably wanted to make these a mystery, but the bells in my head went off immediately for me.

It did have some twists and turns I did not see coming. And, I could not put it down for a second because I had to know how this was all going to end.

The ending was a little sad, but also was wrapped up nicely. Great thriller!

This was a slow unraveling of a complex story. The conclusion was shocking and not at all what I was expecting! Like the peeling of an onion, this plot unraveled slowly. Intricately pieced together and featuring interesting characters, I flew through this one in a day.

This one was an incredibly quick read because I had to find out what was going on!! At first I was a tad confused by the POV and timeline changes but once it got going I was fully intrigued. There were lots of plot twists.

Thank you St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this one.

The Soulmate By Sally Hepworth

I’m torn, I don’t know if I loved it because of the twist at the end and how it has effected my heart or if I want to take a moment and sob until I process and feel better. This was a mystery/suspense for about 85% of the book and the last 15% was a Grey’s Anatomy-esque drama, the good kind. Safe to say, I did not expect that ending and for it to effect me as much as it has

This book was definitely twisty in so many ways I wasn’t expecting. Told from “Then” and “Now” perspectives of two wives, Pippa and Amanda, I both liked and disliked all the characters at some points of the book. When it all came together in the end, I was pretty devastated for all. No spoilers here but suffice it to say that there is betrayal, affairs, genuine mistakes, mental illness, love that you didn’t realize existed til the then, loyalty, death … and then there are two that are Soulmates. Great book and I loved the short chapters that kept me saying, “just one more chapter” til way past my bedtime.

This was a great mystery. I loved how all of the characters were connected in the end. the POVs were amazing.... how we could hear a story from a character we never technically met -brilliant! The author did a great job setting the scene as well. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Omg so twisted and different points of views from past to present. I would get up in the middle of night after a tiring day at work to get my next installment. You just never know what’s going to come at you. The promises/lies of Pippa and her husband Gabe and Max and wife Amanda. The known and unknown connections. The secrets and the support.
So good, and a suspenseful!

Soooo...I haven't read this author yet BUT I have two of her previous books on my bookshelf to read. I was one of the lucky few who was given an ARC of The Soulmate and had to read it now. It realeases in April 2023.

I usually have a hard time with domestic thrillers but not with this one. I was so engrossed in this story that I finished it in less than 2 days. I loved the format, POV and setting for this one. I especially enjoyed the underlying love story of Max and Amanda.

I also loved that it deals with the background and emotional trauma that a spouse with a mental illness can create. I have to admit that ending with Max... completely shocked me which isn't easy to do. Highly recommend this one! I'll definitely be pushing this author's other books up the TBR.

I sincerely appreciate St. Martin's Press for the review copy. While a review wasn't expected, I have offered my opinion and these are my own thoughts.

✨Book Review - The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth✨

Gabe and Pippa Gerard just moved into their dream home, a cliffside cottage in a rural town in Melbourne. They think this is a perfect place to raise their two daughters and have a fresh start. But, there’s a darker side to their new home. It has a cliff that is known for people to go to end their lives and Gabe has become a hero in helping save those people, until one day he doesn’t. Pippa thinks she sees something but her husband says something different. She has a lot of questions and wants to find the truth. Trust her husband or trust her gut?

This book was great! It had some good twists and I loved reading the different POVs. We went back and forth from past to present from both Pippa and the dead woman, Amanda. I wasn’t sure about having Amanda’s POV at first but it wasn’t supernatural or weird, it actually was written in a way that helped move the story along. It was dark and twisty and I enjoyed reading this.

This novel tells the story of Pippa, her husband, and their two young girls, who have just moved into a home on the edge of a cliff where people famously visit to kill themselves. Their lives become upended, however, when the most recent victim at the cliff winds up being someone entangled in their lives.
This story wasn’t as compelling as I wanted it to be, and it’s funny because I looked back and realized that was how I had felt when reviewing the other book of Hepworth’s that I previously read. I was underwhelmed with the plot twists and just not as interested in what was happening as I wanted to be.
Thanks to Netgalley for this Advanced Reader copy!

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

Thank you @netgalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a book gold from alternating points of view. Gabe and Pippa buy their dream house on a tall cliff. The only problem is that this spot has been known for people to come jump to their death- something Gabe has taken upon himself to talk people out of. That is, until he is unsuccessful and someone jumps to their death. Pippa is naturally shaken, but as the events start to unfold, Pippa starts to dig into the past and question all she knows.

This book was a page turner. I loved it and couldn’t put it down. It’s fast paced from the beginning, and there are many twists and turns to keep you engaged. This is for sure one of my favorite suspense/thrillers of the year! I would definitely recommend picking it up.

This book publishes on April 2023, so mark your lists!

Gabe and Pippa finally found their dream home. Its a beautiful cottage on a cliff. The only negative is that the tall cliffs have become a popular place for people to come to take their lives, literally in their back yard. Gabe is always going out to talk the people down and so far has succeeded every time, until one night he doesn't and a young woman ends up dead. Pippa witnessed the incident but has doubts about what she actually saw.

Soon the house is filled with police and there are lots of questions. During the investigation, it comes to light that Gabe knew the victim. Why did he not mention it to the police or Pippa? Is there something sinister going on? Is Gabe lying?

This is a highly addictive read and I recommend checking it out!

When Gabe and Pippa moved to the small town near The Drop, they never imagined they’d spend time preventing people from jumping to their demise. However, when there finally comes a time where Gabe can’t save the woman at The Drop, their world unravels as the connection between Gabe and the woman, Amanda, starts to become public knowledge, Pippa reflects back on then and now, wondering just how they got to this point., and where they go from here.

Gabe seems like a dream come true. Pippa can't even picture what life would be like without her husband Gabe. Then we the readers are given more information of what has gone on in the marriage and all Pippa has endured. Constantly making excuses for his erratic behavior. The story has plenty of twists. This book kept me turning the pages as fast as I could since nothing is as it seemed. Also, touched on a few difficult topics which I applaud.

I became a quick fan of Sally Hepworth's work after reading The Good Sister a few years ago. She has a talent for writing character focused thrillers that have a lot of relatability, some dark humor, and of course: murder.

With that being said, The Soulmate was not a hit for me. There were parts that I liked: short chapters and a super fast pace made for a fun, easy read. However, I didn't love these characters. Actually, I hated them all. It quickly became evident that the main character, Pippa, seems to ignore all kinds of bad behavior from her husband and makes excuses for him to a maddening level. But, I do think part of what made me mad about her choices was how truly accurate they are for many women, myself included. So I guess it stands to question myself: Did I not like this character, or did I not like how bleakly realistic she really is?

The twist at the end fell a little flat for me, too. This book was a reflection of people at their worst. While I didn't love this one, I didn't hate it either and I will continue to read more from Hepworth in the future. She wrote this during quarantine of 2020 and I am noticing that many authors put out books written during that time that are below the caliber of their other works so I am granting grace to any novels penned during lockdown.

I received a free digital copy of The Soulmate from the publisher, all opinions are my own.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

This is an intriguing mystery with a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

When Gabe and Pippa buy their dream house, they discover it is at the edge of a cliff that is a popular suicide spot! Gabe, a stay-at-home father, seems to be good at convincing people not to jump. He even becomes a local celebrity.

One night, while Pippa watches from the house, she sees him talking to a woman at the edge. It seems to be going well, but suddenly the woman falls or jumps or is pushed. What really happened?

I really like Sally Hepworth books,,,,but this one not so much. I liked the back and forth timelines of Pippa and Amanda but the book seemed to drag on at about halfway.. Also, the ending was pretty unbelievable. A!though, I am looking forward to her next book.

I have mixed feelings around this one because it started really good, like hooked me on page one good. The story was told well and definitely created some suspense but once we (as the audience) got to know more about the plot and characters it fell a bit short for me. I found myself skimming some pages and the end wasn’t very exciting. I think overall my hopes got really high because of how the story started and that momentum died down. This was definitely a quick read though and I do recommend it to anyone that enjoys thrillers, 3⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley, St Martins Press, and Sally Hepworth for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
