This was such an interesting read. As far as thrillers go this one is very tame but I enjoyed the characters and finding out what was going on to connect them all. Probably my new favorite Sally Hepworth book and definitely worth giving a read!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley, the incredible author, Sally Hepworth and the publisher for an advanced copy of this fantastic novel!

Sally Hepworth CAN DO NO WRONG! I was so excited to get an advanced copy. I waited until I knew that I wouldn't be interrupted (camping with no cell service, yes!) so that I could devour this book. I read it in less than 24 hours. I kept having to slow myself down. It's a definite page turner.

Gabe and Pippa! What a story! So many twists and turns. So many times I wanted to grab Pippa by the neck and wring it. She made me crazy standing by her man! Grrrr. I know mental illness played a huge part in this story but I was still so sad that she kept sticking it out.

As always with Sally's books nothing is as it seems then it all comes together nicely. That ending! WHAT?!?!

It wasn't until after moving in that Pippa and Gabe learned that the tall cliffs outside their new home was a popular spot for those seeking to end their lives. Gabe, always charismatic, has a talent at talking these lost souls off the ledge-- until one day when Pippa sees a woman jump to her death. At first deemed a horrible accident, the family attempts to move on from the tragedy... until Pippa finds that Gabe knew the victim, leaving her wondering if the woman really jumped of her own accord.

The Soulmate follows two female perspectives through different timelines: Amanda, "Before" and "After" and Pippa, "Then" and "Now." I found both characters fascinating, and enjoyed all four timelines, although it was a little hard for me to follow along with which storyline was which. This is a fast-paced page turner than I couldn't stop reading or thinking about! I definitely recommend it.

Thank you to the publisher, Sally Hepworth, and Netgalley for a copy of The Soulmate in exchange for my honest review.

Sally knows she can write a domestic suspense!! I was hooked on this book from the first chapter and finished it in a day. Family secrets, a lady talking to us from beyond the grave, main characters unraveling…it was awesome y’all!! Highly recommend!

Thanks so much to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the e-arc!

This book unfortunately did not meet my expectations earned by this author for her previous works. While the setting was somewhat original, the characters didn't seem very unique or even likeable (one of the children especially was portrayed as awful!!), and the plotline was drawn out and predictable. It was fun to read and kept me engaged, but none of the "twists" were all that surprising, interesting, or... well, twisty - they didn't feel like value adds to the overall story. Really hoping this author does a turnaround for her next work - I like her previous ones so much more!

Thank you Net Galley for the ACR edition of this book. I really enjoy reading Sally Hepworth. She knows how to tell a good story with enough twists and turns to always capture my attention. This is probably my favorite book of hers that I have read thus far though. I don't want to give out any spoilers, but the ending is quite shocking. I look forward to my next read by Sally Hepworth!

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a story written in the viewpoint of two women, but also past and present. Even though I like other books by Hepworth, this was not my favorite. I needed to re-read quite a few times to see just who was being talked about. The story was not quite convincing to me.
This book is about two couples and how their lives intertwine over and over in different ways. One couple has no children and the other has two young girls, born six months apart. Are either of the couples married to their their soulmate, is a soulmate really possible, and if so, do you tell your soulmate everything?
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this advance copy. The release date is April4, 2023. This review is entirely my own viewpoint.

One of her best yet! As a Sally Hepworth fan, I couldn’t wait to read her new book. This is a book about marriage, murder, and mental illness. I thought the book was very well written with good character development with Pippa and Gabe. Pippa and Gabe live at the cliff house which is house the is near a cliff over a beach. Unfortunately, the cliff is also a place where people go when they’re contemplating ending their life. Gabe is the dashing man who has rescued seven people from falling over the cliff. Until one day, he’s not able to help. A woman jumps over the cliff. Pippa finds out that the woman is her husbands boss’ wife. Very well written about the insights of marriage between both Pippa and Gabe and Amanda and Max. The book goes back to the past and present and helps to develop and give insight to the story.

Twisted Obsessions

3.75 stars

“I did not come here to die.”

In The Soulmate, Sally Hepworth explores the (mis)perceptions of a perfect marriage. What those see on the outside isn't so perfect behind closed doors.

Two couples. A suspicious suicide, deception, secrets, and lies are exposed as the reader discovers what led to a character’s death.

Narrated by Pippa and Amanda, I enjoyed both stories. I didn’t love the characters, but I didn’t hate them. Hepworth does a solid job of showing not only the good and bad sides of a marriage but also the good and bad sides of the characters. In the beginning, I was more intrigued by Pippa, but by the end, I wanted more of Amanda.

Hepworth dangles details about their marriages without fully giving away what truly is going on until the end. The structure kept me glued to the pages; however, at the same time, the plot revolved around twists, some of which surprised me and others that were just irksome and/or OTT. At the same time, they sure do add to the drama!

In addition to exploring infidelity, love, and marriage, Hepworth also illustrates the impact of mental illness on a marriage.

The Soulmate is a compulsively readable novel that I had to pull myself away from. It is fast-paced and intriguing. It is also very easy to read. I could have done with fewer twists, but overall, this was a win for me!

TW: Infidelity and Mental Illness

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Net Galley for the opportunity to read the ARC of this book. This is my second Sally Hepworth book and I've enjoyed both of them. Soulmate was a wonderful domestic thriller with lots of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. It is told in alternating points of view and timelines, which is a writing style I really enjoy. The characters are all pretty complex, but there aren't so many that it was hard to follow. While the author covers many social issues including infidelity, suicide, and post pardum depression, I didin't feel like she was trying to fit them all in, like i do in other books. I thought she dealt with all of them convincingly. I liked how the title is reinforced in the surprising ending.

I was really excited to read this after being such a big fan of Hepworth’s The Good Sister. Hepworth writes such compulsively readable books that I can fly through over a weekend day or two, and this was no exception. I loved the alternating POVs and timelines, and the short chapters kept me wanting more. Absolutely loved the atmosphere in this book, and the cover speaks to this. It was a great setting!

I enjoyed this and think it’s a good read for those that enjoy an atmospheric thriller, but I wouldn’t say you should expect any big shocking twists. An easy weekend read that will keep you flipping pages! But I would say to go for one of her other reads if you’re looking for twists that will blow your socks off! I did love that this combines some elements of domestic thriller as well as dysfunctional family dynamics.

Sally Hepworth is one of my favorite authors so I squealed a little when I found out I was approved to read an advanced copy of The Soulmate. This book did not disappoint.

The chapters are short and I found myself flying right through them. This is the type of novel you don't want to put down, so you can finish in a single afternoon.

I liked that we got to hear from two different perspectives and two different timelines. There wasn't a narrator or a timeline that I preferred. I thought they were both really well done.

Lastly, I did not expect either of the twists at the end! The author really threw me for a loop. I love when I am surprised by an ending of a thriller.

This was my favorite Sally Hepworth novel to date. I would definitely recommend picking up a copy!

Pippa and Gabe have purchased a home that sits near The Drop, a known suicide spot. Gabe has helped stop seven suicides, but on this particular night he was unable to stop it. It was a suicide wasn't it?
Twists and turns abound for the rest of the book..

I am a huge fan of Sally Hepworth, it would be odd if I didn't enjoy her books.
I certainly enjoyed this book. I was happily surprised early on with a twist I didn't see coming. That set the tone of my enjoyment for the remainder.

Like many of her novels, The Soulmate was told from several characters perspectives. What I really enjoyed was that this was done with the "before" and "after" perspective. I particularly enjoyed Amanda and Max.

Highly recommend this book!

This book is definitely one of my top 5 favorites of the year. I was captivated from the beginning until the very end.

Pippa, Gabe, Amanda and Max are all intertwined in this very twisty book that keeps you guessing the whole way through. The writing style was great, going from Pippa to Amanda, past to present.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my review.

Gabe and Pippa live by a cliff known as “The Drop.” Gabe has been able to talk multiple jumpers out of ending their own lives, until one night he doesn’t. The death was ruled a suicide, but Pippa isn’t so sure.

Plot twist after plot twist. This book is a serious page turner and incredibly fast paced. I could not put it down! Sally Hepworth does an amazing job telling this story from two point of views. Five out of five stars for me. I highly recommend it!

I love books that have multiple points of view and Hepworth did something that I haven't really read before with having one of the point of views being from the individual who was killed. The story revolves around Pippa who is married to Gabe. At first all seems well and they seem like the perfect couple. But like most stories there is more to met the eye. When one night Gabe fails to save a women who seems to jump off the cliff behind their house Pippa's life shortly begins to unravel. Hepworth did a wonderful job with keeping me interested the whole book and adding some nice twists that I didn't see coming.

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, NetGalley, and Sally Hepworth for the free e-copy of The Soulmate! All opinions are my own.

I have read several other Sally Hepworth books and have come to love her thought provoking style of writing. She does such a fantastic job of analyzing the human condition, family relationships, etc. Her other books have always felt a bit slower paced to me (though I still loved them) where the mystery component was really secondary to the people/characters.

This book still has that unflinching perspective of family relationships (this time marriage being the focus) BUT I felt the mystery had a much faster pace than usual and it kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning! I was hooked pretty early on and loved each of the characters, flaws and all.

I love that Sally Hepworth is consistent in the best parts of her writing, but doesn’t let things get stale either as each book is so different. I would absolutely recommend The Soulmate to all drama/ thriller lovers!

This was my first Sally Hepworth novel, but it will not be my last, for this author is a master storyteller. THE SOULMATE, a domestic thriller, is filled with one surprise after another.

Gabe and his wife Pippa move into a home perched on the edge of a cliff. There is a long history of "The Drop," the spot where people come to end their worries and jump to their deaths. In the past, compassionate Gabe has stepped outside several times and urged individuals to change their plans. Then one day he lets a woman jump. Or did he push her?

The book is told through the POV of Pippa and Amanda, the deceased. Through each story segment, we learn more about these women and the past events that tie them together. The most complex character is Max, Amanda’s husband. He’s the least dependable voice. This story is full of twists, turns, and even bold-faced lies. What drama and suspense. I read well into the night for I could not put this one down. The writing is cunningly woven and ensnares you like a spider’s web.
