Excellent writing and a thrilling story! I was hooked from start to finish. Can’t wait to read more from this author!

3.5 rounded up

This was a fun thriller and just twisty enough to keep me interested from start to finish. However, I will say the first half was a bit more interesting. Once I got a sense for where the story was going, it was a little more dull. Idk if that’s because it was mostly cut and dry, or the plot itself? It wasn’t bad, just average..

The writing was good (except for the several mentions of Pip “slurping” her drinks… ugh! I cringed every time haha) and the characters were fleshed out just enough that I cared about what happened to them. Pip was also a great mc; she was loyal to a fault, made mistakes, cared about her daughters and family… I’m normally not very interested in stories/characters that lean heavily on the aspect of motherhood, but I liked Pip.

I also appreciated that Gabe had a mental illness, and Hepworth made a point to talk about how the illness itself wasn’t what made Gabe a bad person—it was his actions that created a chaotic, volatile atmosphere around him. A lot of thrillers demonize mental illness, so it was a much better take (and Hepworth mentions having sensitivity readers for bipolar disorder, which is also good to see).

Maybe not my favorite story, but solid. This is my second Hepworth book, and I don’t think it will be my last!

Thanks NetGalley for the amazing opportunity of getting this ARC copy. Honestly I couldn’t put this book down, I literally finished it in 2 days. This is the second Sally Hepworth book I read and it will for sure not be the last one. This domestic suspense book had so many twist plots and keeps you hooked from the start. I can’t wait to see what Sally will write next. I highly recommend you adding this to your TBR

I usually enjoy Sally's novels but this one just didn't grab me. Something about it was off. I think she was trying to address too many issues along with the murder mystery. Initially I was into it, but a little after halfway, I started losing interest. Not terrible just not the "thrilling", "addictive" ride I was waiting for.

When I saw the Read Now option for The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth on NetGalley, I couldn’t believe my eyes and downloaded it immediately. I love that despite the mundane titles of her books, I know the author will deliver anything but a boring story.

Gabe and Pippa leave the city and move to a cottage in a small seaside town outside Melbourne. They were looking for a fresh start and a nice place to raise their daughters. Unfortunately, their house is located just in front The Spot which also happens to be a location popular for people wanting to end their lives due to its steep drop. Gabe becomes a bit of a local hero due to his ability to talk many people out of ending their lives. Then one night, Gabe spots a woman on the cliff’s edge and runs out to help her. Pippa sees Gabe take a step towards the woman, she becomes occupied with her daughters and when she looks up again, the woman is gone and Gabe is standing there with his arms outstretched, palms out. The police rule it a suicide, but when it comes out that Gabe knew the woman, Pippa starts questioning what she saw and what really happened on the cliff that night.

Sally Hepworth is a master at dishing up domestic suspense with a side of family drama. This story is told past/present from Pippa's perspective and then also from the perspective of the woman in question. I liked seeing everything unfold from both perspectives and watching the pieces of the puzzle come together. A few times throughout the book I wanted to shake Pippa and ask her what the heck she was thinking. This book has short chapters which I love because they make it hard to stop reading even when I am exhausted. There are a few twists throughout the story, one of them I thought I had figured out but boy was I wrong. Sally Hepworth continues to be a favorite of mine and I will read anything she writes. 4 stars.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

Pippa and Gabe move to a house near "The Drop", a cliff where several have taken their own lives. Gabe is known to talk people off the cliff but he is not successful and a woman jumps. Pippa finds out that Gabe knew this woman, and the picture perfect married life that is presented at the beginning of the book slowly unravels.

This was a quick and easy read, with short chapters, quick pacing, and alternating view points. It had a lot of the typical twists that you expect in a thriller but none were very shocking or original. I disliked Pippa the more that I read and felt like the relationship between her and Gabe could have been developed more. The ending tied everything up nicely.

This was not the craziest thriller but I enjoyed it nonetheless. And no harm came to any cats! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Can we just go ahead and all agree that @sallyhepworth is the new queen of domestic thrillers?

Since the Mother In Law, I have been absolutely obsessed with anything Hepworth releases. Thank you so much to @stmartinspress,@netgalley and Sally for the chance to review this pulse pounding thriller.

A page turner at its finest! Gabe and Pippa have it all; beautiful kids, successful career, helpful family... and now since they've moved into their perfect home on a cliff, Gabe has made a name for himself by talking would be suicidal people out of their decisions. Until one doesn't... what did Pippa see? Why were Gabes hands turned outwards?

As the truth unravels we're thrown into a story of deceit, cheating, and dark secrets. Could it be that maybe Gabe isn't who Pippa thinks he really is? After all.. she has been fully supportive of his past indiscretions. Told in multiple POVs, the Soulmate is one hell of a ride that I devoured.

The Soulmate has a perfect plot twist and a few minor sub twists that left me in absolute tears! Highly recommend!

Yet again, Sally Hepworth has written a novel I just can't put down. The Soulmate had me from the very first couple of pages, and the propulsive writing kept me reading until too late several nights in a. row.

These aren't likeable characters and the reader might get frustrated at Pippa's inability or refusal to pay attention to the occasional troubling thoughts she has. But you'll want to find out just how it all comes together, and the ending is a satisfying one.

Many thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for a free e-copy for review.

I was so excited to get my hands on the advanced copy of this psychological thriller. I flew through it in just two days and loved how I kept wanting to pick my Kindle back up. I usually don't like when books aren't written chronologically but it was easy to keep up with the timeline and the different points of view. I loved how there were multiple twists and just when you thought you had it figured out, another one came at you. I can't wait to read more of Sally Hepworth's books.

This is my first time reading a book by this author, the synopsis gripped me right away and wow I am so happy I picked this book up!

I am a sucker for a tragic love story, and this book delivers ten fold! I loved all the different twists, every time I put the book down I ended up picking it right back up to read just a few more chapters, if I didn't have to sleep or eat or work I would have just binged this entire book in one sitting!

I especially love multiple POV books and was especially happy to have that in this book as it added to the mystery and thriller feel of it, you were always kept guessing on what the character was truly seeing, I urge you to go into this book as blind as I was, it makes the psychological whiplash that much more intense.

I have recently gotten into thriller books and this story just made me want to read more and more of them!

The Soulmate is one of the best novels I've read this year. Just when you think you've figured it out, another twist occurs. The story is easy to follow and get in to. If you like books where nothing is as it seems, read it. The good guys are the bad guys and the bad guys are the good guys. I hope there will be a sequel that follows the young girls into adult because I bet Asha gets into some series sh!t.

I love Sally Hepworth books so much that when a new one comes out I purchase it without even reading what it’s about. I love how this book starts with a twist! Two actually - the actions of Gabe and Asha.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sending me an ARC of The Soulmate in exchange for an honest review.

Looking to move past some rough patches in their marriage, Gabe and Pippa buy a cliffside house outside Melbourne, Australia. But they soon learn that their new home is near a spot called The Drop where many people have leapt to their deaths over the years. Several times, Gabe has seen some standing near the edge, gone out and talked to them until they decided not to jump. Until one day, when Pippa saw a woman at the Drop, Gabe went out to talk to her, and in the moment Pippa looked away, the woman fell to her death. Gabe insists she jumped, but that’s not what it looked like to Pippa. And when Pippa learns who the woman was, and the connection to her and Gabe’s past, it places their marriage—and maybe even their lives—in danger.

The Soulmate is told from four perspectives. There’s Pippa’s present-day narrative, as we move through the events at the Drop and the aftermath. There’s Pippa’s flashbacks, as we see how she and Gabe‘s relationship developed and the problems they’d overcome (or not) before they moved to the Drop. There’s the flashbacks from the dead woman, as we learn who she is, her connection to Gabe and Pippa, and she went to the Drop that night. And then … and then there are the sections from the dead woman’s present-day narrative. Yes, the victim’s ghost also narrates portions of the events in the aftermath of her death. Sometimes she’s a lie detector for the preceding chapter, sometimes she can see into another character’s past. She can even be in multiple places at once—it’s like having an omniscient, third person narrator in the form of a sarcastic, first-person one.

The Soulmate is a solid domestic suspense novel. It’s got some insights on marriage and a good story with at least a half-dozen twists. Recommended, but your enjoyment of the book is probably going to rise or fall based on your acceptance of the beyond-the-grave narrator. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

👍🏻The story pulled me in immediately and made me eager to keep reading. I seriously did not want to put this book down.
👍🏻I liked the way the story was told from Amanda's perspective as well, both past and present.
👍🏻It was fast-paced and a page turner, for the most part.
👍🏻Some of the plot twists really surprised me. I usually predict twists easily- but this one kept me guessing with most of the twists and turns.
🤷🏻‍♀️ This could have been a good message about mental health and the impacts of misdiagnosis, but instead it felt like a stigmatizing and misrepresentation of people with the mental health disorders referenced in this book.
👎🏻Pippa was very annoying, weak, and melodramatic. It was hard to root for her. Her husband was her personality trait, which was very obnoxious.
👍🏻If you like domestic thrillers or domestic dramas, you should definitely read this book.

Fans of Sally Hepworth will enjoy her latest domestic thriller, “The Soulmate.”

Gabe and Pippa move into their dream home, located on a cliff, a cliff that is popular with individuals who wish to end their lives. Yet, Gabe is determined not to let that happen—talking down one person after another to keep them from jumping. Until the time he doesn’t succeed.

Pippa discovers that Gabe and the deceased woman (Amanda) have a connection. Determined to find out what that connection is, Pippa discovers a few additional surprising truths about her husband.

Told in the alternating point of views of Pippa and Amanda, this novel sends its reader on a rocky yet captivating journey. I thought Hepworth did an excellent job at building suspense but also takes the time to really develop her characters. I was surprised when I got to the end as I wanted to keep on reading.

My thanks to St. Martin’s Press, the author and NetGalley of this intriguing book.

Wow Sally you fully stumped me this time! I was hopeful going into this book that she would be ack at her best and she did not disappoint. This book is full of many twists, and just when you think you know what is going on, another one comes your way and sets you on a different path. I couldn't put this book down and ended up finishing it within a day.
I was not sure initially how I felt about the ending, but I am okay with it. It served the story well. Pippa deserves some happiness with all she has been through.
Strong plot, short chapters. Just the way I like it.

How well do you really know your spouse? Will your loyalty, trust, and fidelity be reciprocated?

Pippa and her husband Gabe live in a seaside house that borders onto tall cliffs where people have committed suicide by falling off into The Drop. Gabe becomes a local hero by convincing several people to reconsider and come away from the brink. But one evening there was a woman he couldn’t or didn’t talk away from The Drop. This time he knows the woman. And how he knows this woman and how this woman is involved in their lives provides all the twists, turns, and surprises throughout the entire book.

The book is told through the perspectives of Pippa, then and now, and Amanda, before and after. The twists, turns, and surprises of marriage follow along with the twists, turns, and surprises of the plot to make this a book that is hard to put down. Confession after confession kept coming at nearly every chapter’s end.

It’s not until the very end that you understand the book’s title. It is a bittersweet revelation.
