Pippa and Gabe buy a beautiful house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. They love it except it seems to attract people who want to end their lives. Gabe seems to be able to talk them down, until one night, he doesn't.

This is quite the page turner. Hepworth writes so convincingly that you feel what the characters are feeling and it seems you are there with them. The twists were awesome and believable. The story is told from two women's point of view, and they each have a before and now which leads to the final scenes. Very well done.

I was excited to find that Sally Hepworth had a new book out as I enjoy her writing. This book was great! It had enough twists and turns to keep my attention and a satisfying ending. Thanks for the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

I loved this book. The Soulmate kept me hooked and there were just the right number of layers to keep the action moving and the tension at a steady hum without it feeling forced. I didn't bother trying to guess anything and you shouldn't either! Part of what makes this book work so well is that it carries you along with it. It's like you witnessed an accident on the other side of the highway only to see the carnage is far from done. The initial event is just the beginning.

I love Sally Hepworth so I really wanted to like this one but it didn't work for me.

Something about the way this book was written kept me at an arms length from the story and the characters. I didn't feel invested and felt like I had to trudge through this one to finish it. I expected a bigger plot and more twists - at least one of the "twists" I felt was very obviously alluded to from the very beginning.

The book alternates chapters both with narrators and time periods of "before" and "after." Neither of the female narrators had strong voices so I had trouble differentiating between the two and had to go back and double check which chapter I was reading. I also found that many chapters marked "after" would actually go on to describe events in the past which made the entire reading experience confusing and messy.

This was a complete miss for me and I think Sally Hepworth has much stronger novels out there! I loved The Mother in Law and would recommend that over this one any day.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

From the publisher- "There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.

When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral...Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?

And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate...lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.'

I absolutely loved this book from the first few lines. I was hooked and I did not stop reading until I had completed the entire novel. I loved Pippa's character, she was realistic, if not a touch naive at times, and I felt like I was living her life, watching the difficulty unfold with Gabe, Max, and Amanda. Pippa is the breadwinner of the family and you really start to see the weaknesses in his character throughout the novel. There are times when you really dislike him, and possibly Pippa as well. Even the background characters are fleshed-out and important to the story. I felt like this was such a great book with lots of twists and turns. I refuse to review a book as "Twisty" or the "Next Gone Girl," but this checks all the boxes for an absolutely amazing read that would translate well to the big screen. I am somewhat new to Sally Hepworth but I have to admit that one of my favorite things about her writing is that it's all so unique. I have loved all of Hepworth's novels in their own individual way! I look forward to the next book that Sally Hepworth publishes, as I'm sure it'll be an absolute page-turner!

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this phenomenal digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest review.

First things first. I could not put this book down. I lay in bed staying up until the wee hours of the morning to get to the end. It had such great twists and turns, and executed them so well which isn't always the case for domestic thrillers like these. I didn't feel a particular attachment to any of the characters but surprisingly that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. A murderous easy breezy thriller.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the e-arc.

📱”The Soulmate” by Sally Hepworth

⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ publication date April 4, 2023

A thrilling, addictive novel about marriage, betrayal, and twisted secrets. Two couples, Max, Amanda, Gabe and Pippa are intertwined more than they know. Mental illness plays a big part of this story- told from Amanda and Pippa’s perspectives, both looking at the past and present.

Gabe and Pippa’s dream home is on a steep coastal cliff not too far from “The Drop” a popular spot for people to end their lives. Gabe has found he can help by talking people off the ledge, until one night when he doesn’t. To find out Gabe knew the victim, makes Pippa ask so many questions about her husband, who she thought she knew, and take a serious look at her life, marriage, and past.

Sally Hepworth is a favorite author of mine so I was very excited to read this new novel. It was not my favorite of hers but the short, suspenseful chapters made for a quick read.

I read that this murder and marriage book came out of a what’s app complaint about husbands pandemic habits. That would have been much
better. I was a fan of the way the writing set the scene. I found the two women narrative voices to be indistinguishable and weak. I liked the
concept of seeing a story writ large after death, that was actually my favorite driving the plot forward technique. Bipolar, ADHD Gabe not credible…criminal investors, silly..needs huge rewrite leaving out the above to truly be believable domestic suspense
I had to look up the details of the tv program the girls were watching and it totally charmed me, best part of the reading experience. I seem
to find Sally Hepworth and Catherine Steadman books cohabiting in the genre…no contest Catherine Steadman has a truly unique and dark mind..and writes characters so much more vividly...three stars or less

told across dual timelines from multiple POVs, the soulmate is a captivating romantic suspense with plenty of twists and turns. the characters all had their secrets, and they were revealed along the way at just the right times as it led up to one final twist [that I definitely didn’t see coming]!

the writing was incredibly descriptive, and I found that I could clearly picture the setting - from the cliff house to their small coastal town. it also had great character development and built up the family dynamics/relationships well.

while the concept of the book was riveting and I enjoyed it overall, I did find that there was something missing for it to be a 4-5 star read [I’d give this a 3.5]! there was a lot of back-and-forth between the past and the present which I appreciate in building the backstory, but I wanted it to be a bit more fast-paced in getting to the events of the present day.

that being said, it was still a page-turning book [with short chapters!] that I’d definitely recommend if you enjoy domestic/family thrillers!

Ms. Hepworth thrives in the Domestic Suspense genre so you know there will be marital issues galore. One of those issues comes right away for me - moving to a house that sits on a cliff known for the suicides that takes place basically right in front of the home. Throw in the fact that you have young children, I don't care what the asking price is, I don't want to live in that house! But move they do and in no time, one of our MC, Gabe, is talking people off the cliff in front of his home. That is until a mystery lady jumps right in front of him while our other MC Pippa, Gabe's wife, is watching from the kitchen window. Did the woman jump? Were Gabe's arms pushing or grabbing?
The chapters are split between the ghost of the jumper and Pippa. Pretty soon you begin to question just who is the Soulmate of whom.
Premise is great but unfortunately it begins to get messy and spins out of control. All the characters are interconnected but not in a good or even a semi-real way. I'm all for suspended belief but this was a bridge too far for me. That said, I'll jump on the next book that Ms. Hepworth puts out and once again have high expectations.

Being a fan of Sally Hepworth, I jumped at the chance to read the ARC provided by publisher and Netgalley and I thank you for the opportunity. All opinions are mine.

Loved this book! Gabe and Pippa live in a cottage on a cliff. The cliff is called “The Spot” because it is where people go to jump to end their lives. Gabe becomes good at talking people out of jumping until he doesn’t!
This book has many plot twists and kept me guessing! Would highly recommend!

Let me start by saying that I’m an absolute sucker for a good setting and this one pulled me in immediately. Told from two points of view, each in their past and present lives, this story is FULL of jaw-dropping plot twists and turns. I finished it in a day, even though I knew I’d regret flying through it instead of savoring it... The chaos, the drama, the atmosphere – PERFECTION. If you’re in a reading slump, this one is sure to get you back on track!

Great read along the lines of a domestic thriller. Do we really, truly know the ones we love the most? Interesting angles on how lives and loves get intertwined and the fallout that can happen. This was more of Hepworth's calmer storylines, so to speak. While still keeping you on your toes with suspense, I was expecting more of the author's trademark finale with a punch twist. Still good, yet, more along the lines of leaving you pondering relationships and fidelity. #Thesoulmate #sallyhepworth #netgalley #goodreads

Do yourself a favor and press the buy button right now. This novel contains mysteries, thrills, and tricky matters of the heart . . . it had me hooked from beginning to end.

Love can sometimes be a fickle and complicated emotion and in other instances, it can become as long-lasting and strong as Tungsten.

Do you think you know everything about your spouse? This narrative raises the question: Would the discovery of a secret or a flaw bind you closer together or would it threaten to untie your sacred knot?

After all is said and done in a marriage, we cling to the hope that we have the right partner for the long haul . . . that we've chosen our mate well. Sooner or later, life will test each couple's resilience in order to find out.

I'd like to thank NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Soulmate for my unbiased evaluation. 5 stars

Sally is one of my favorite authors and not she didn’t disappoint. Pippa and her husband Gabe are living an idyllic life with their two daughters. The book opens with a woman committing suicide outside their home at a place called the drop- a place people go to commit suicide. Not the most exciting topic. But Amanda the woman is connected to them . The story is told from Pippa and Amanda’s perspectives - did Amanda’s randomly chose their house to commit suicide? Was Amanda’s husband Max involved? Is there a connection between the suicides and Gabe and. Maxs shady business? This book really was well written and kept me guessing until the end. And you really do have to read til the very end to get the answers.

I flew through this book! I loved the short chapters and the dual povs especially from the dead! Of anmanda!
also past and present so finding out details to some things we already know was a fresh was to intake everything that led up to the night that changed all of their lives!
There’s romance, suspense, family drama, fear and many plots twists.
I would definitely recommend 🌟

My only gripe was that at the end it was underwhelming and the “1 year later” after all that was weird. After all they’ve been through and how much she loves have she 1 doesn’t get the answer about him killing AS orrrr any truth? And she leaves him? Honestly thought they would bond over it.

Asha I thought would be a bigger role since she was made to be kind of “creepy” or something but her big scene was having the flash drive hmmm.

Where do I even start?!

This book captured my full attention within the first few pages. The writing was done beautifully and the characters instantly caught my attention.

I love the dual POV and felt it was very well done. The fact that Hepworth was able to jump from *then* and *now*, while also keeping up with the dual POV flawlessly was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed who Hepworth chose for the POV perspectives and thought it was neat how each character grew between the time lines and as the story unfolded..

This book touched my heart in many ways: from touching on mental illnesses, and doing proper research to ensure she was reflecting and explaining different mental illnesses correctly - all the way to also touching on family dynamics and self worth.

Throughout this book I felt so many emotions for (and towards) every character. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t get enough of this story.

I will be highly recommending this book to friends & will be on the look out for more books by Hepworth!

Thanks to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for the advanced readers copy!

I normally start my reviews with a synopsis of the book but this one was so full of twists and turns it's a challenge. A great thriller that kept me picking up the book to see what happens next. I loved the dual POV and then vs now. The way the story unfolds and secrets are revealed was so satisfying!

When I saw this new Sally Hepworth book drop on Netgalley, I RAN. 🏃‍♀️

In full disclosure, it took me a long time to get into this one. Once I was in, it was good and very twisty. But I just immediately couldn't stand the MC and how weak I felt she was. I even messaged a few people being like, "Can I push HER off The Drop?"

I LOVED that we get a viewpoint of a person who died. That was a very interesting way to tell her story. 🤔

I will say some of those twists, I honestly didn't see them coming. Am I losing my touch? Haha

⚠️ KINDA SPOILER⚠️
*The one thing that really turned me off was Gabe's official mental health diagnosis. Where I know that what is shown are symptoms, it just paints a picture that people like me can't live normal lives, even medicated. I just wish all the bad parts of the diagnosis weren't shown and focused on, however I guess they were needed for the story. So I'm very torn on this.*
