3 stars rounded up. This started intriguing to me but lost steam about halfway through. I didn't feel invested in why Pippa continued to stay with Gabe and his spiral just left a really bad taste in my mouth; he became irredeemable. The "twist" at the end felt stale to me and didn't surprise me in any real way. I'm a fan of Hepsworth and I imagine others will like this more than me, but hoping for more in her next novel.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sally Hepworth will surely keep you anticipating what is coming next in The Soul mate. It is a perplexing mystery of love and deception and corruption in two marriages affecting all the lives they encounter. I was kept in suspense until the dreadful, unsuspected ending.

Another book by this fabulous author that did not disappoint. This book kept me on the edge of my seat with a twist I did not see coming! I highly recommend! I read late into the night to finish as I couldn’t put it down!

Sally Hepworth's latest novel The Soulmate is a suspenseful, twisty page turner that leaves you eager to dive into the next chapter. Packed full of secrets, betrayals, marriage. love and loyalty, that push characters to the edge of their limits. How far are they willing to go for the ones they love? The Soulmate is a thrilling read with lots of plot twist. A new highly addictive must read!
I voluntarily read an ARC copy of this novel thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley. Publication date for this novel is April 4, 2023.

Thank you St. Martins Press and Netgalley for an arc of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Pippa and Gabe move to a cliff house and people come to a spot in their backyard to commit suicide. Since they moved there, Gabe has talked to the last 8 people and saved them, but then one person, he is not able to help and she dies. The mystery of this woman's death and close knit family dynamics are the center of this story. This is the first book I read from this author, but definitely not my last.
Trigger warning: suicide, adhd, and bipolar disorder.

I've read a few of Sally Hepwirth's books and this one was not a disappointment.
It drew me in and made me keep wanting to know what was going to happen next.
I didn't expect the twist at the end, but it was a satisfying ending to me.
The description of mental illness was accurate and a little scary from an outside perspective. Having had a bipolar best friend. I can't imagine being married to someone who struggles with it to that degree.
I enjoyed the book and will look forward to more of her books in the future.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love a @sallyhepworth mystery! This one did not disappoint and kept me guessing!
What I liked:
•the setting alone gave me anxiety!!
•unreliable main characters are always my favorite!
•did not see the twists coming
•the two perspectives of Amanda and Pippa in two different timelines
•Recently I discovered that as someone who lives with a lot of real life anxiety, escaping my life momentarily and entering the world of a suspenseful thriller turns my real anxiety into fictional anxiety. I feel excitement and anticipation and enjoy that feeling! Briefly I can escape into the world of my book and nearly let go of what’s causing my actual anxiety. Ironically, Pippa says this same thing at one point about something in her life.
What I didn’t like
•much focus on one thing (check trigger warnings if you want to know)
•a little slow in the middle ~ but honestly that could just be where my head is right now! Chaos in my life!
Thank you to @netgalley and @sallyhepworth for making this ARC so accessible! What a privilege to be an early reader of such a highly anticipated read of this fall!
Book 69 of 2022
Read September 11-18

Sally Hepworth does not disappoint. She is the queen of domestic thrillers and families that look normal only to reveal deep dysfunction. This one is no exception. Gabe and Pippa have moved into a perfect house to complete their perfect family. The view is exceptional and also it happens to be a popular location for those who want to commit suicide. Gabe has become somewhat of a legend in his ability to convince people not to jump.
Until he doesn't. That one time.
What looks like a suicide gone wrong, hides many more layers underneath.
The twists and turns are fun and unexpected in this one and I loved the way the story unraveled. If you've enjoyed Hapworth's novels before, you will not want to miss this one.
with gratitude to netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Couldn’t put this one down. Great read that I will definitely be recommending to everyone.
Pippa and Gabe were great characters and I was invested in them. Max and Amanda were a big part of this story. There was a great plot twist that I didn’t see coming. It was mot what I expected at all. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy of this book.

Pippa and Gabe have recently been through a rough patch and moved to a coastal community outside Melbourne for a fresh start. They find a wonderful cottage right on the sea but soon discover the reason it was so affordable is that it’s a known suicide spot. Gabe has since secured some local fame for talking people off the cliff edge until one day when a woman goes over. But the story is just getting started, as they learn more about the woman and what her death might mean for them.
I’m a fan of Hepworth and this was a great entry for her. There were some things I figured out, but definitely some surprises as well. She builds the plot deftly, giving you just enough at each turn. Lots of fun!

I could not put this down! Her books always reel you in from the first page! When a woman falls to her death in front of a house on a well known cliff, the woman's husband swears she didn't jump. He's convinced she was pushed, but by who? Several conflicting stories are told. Who is hiding secrets and who is telling the truth? You will be on the edge of your seat with this suspenseful story from this wonderful author. She always writes an edge of your seat nail biter, and this one is just that! Another great book by Sally Hepworth.

This book hooked me immediately and I read it in less than 24 hours. I might've read it in one sitting, but work got in the way!
It wasn't the story I expected - I felt the focus was more on how mental illness affects the lives of others when it's not managed well, as opposed to being a twisty thriller. Nothing truly unexpected happened, but this book touched me for other reasons. I grew up in a household similar to Pippa and Gabe's, and it was almost surreal, reading and experiencing those feelings and anxieties through someone else's eyes. Pippa reminded me so much of my mother and I just wanted to shove her down a better path the entire time I was reading.
The conclusion to the "murder mystery" fell a bit flat for me, but the overall ending was positive and gave me a decent amount of closure.

I just read "The Soulmate" by Sally Hepworth. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy in return for an honest review. First I want to say Sally Hepworth is one of my favourite authors. She writes such goo story, slowly developed with bits of intrigue in every chapter. Small hints which climax into huge surprises and moments that take your breath away. Her characters are well developed and multi-layered and so so interesting. The Soulmate was such an excellent book.
It revolves around a youg couple (Gabe and Pippa) who together with their two lovely girls live in a beautiful cliffside house and have a wonderful romantic life. One evening, Gabe sees a women who looks to be contemplating jumping off the cliff behind the house. He telles Pippa to phone the police while he goes to speak to the woman. Pippa goes to phone the police and when she returns only Gabe remains...the woman is gone. Did Gabe push her? Was it an accident? Why is Gabe acting strange and lying to the police?
The story is told in two perspectives and by two different voices: past and present and Pippa's voice and Amanda's (the woman who dies) voice. The benefit of this is that the reader gets a wonderful glimpse into the events that preceeded the night of the jump. It is a love story in a way but not in the way I thought it would be. The ending is tragic and beautiful and endearing, especially when the reader finds out who "The Soulmate really is. Sally Hepworth never disappoints...once again she has hit a homerun with this book. It is an absolute must-read!

4.5⭐️ rounded up to 5!
This is my fourth novel by Sally Hepworth and I would say this is tied with The Good Sister for my favourite.
I am a sucker for a good domestic suspense novel and I was a huge fan of how Hepworth approached this one. It was dual POV and also alternated between past and present time.
I loved the setting - a house located on a cliff that multiple people have committed suicide by jumping off of it. Pippa & her husband Gabe have to call the police if they see someone attempting to jump, and Gabe goes out to try to talk them down. One day he isn’t successful and a woman dies at the cliff in front of him.
This book gripped me right away and I couldn’t put it down.
There were a few great twists that I didn’t anticipate!

"The Soulmate" by Sally Hepworth is an amazing domestic thriller that had me hooked from the beginning. The story is told in a dual POV, going back and forth between Pippa in the now, and Amanda in the after. The author touches upon many sensitive topics, such as infidelity, mental illness, and suicide in a sensitive manner that offers other perspectives and understanding. Thank you so much NetGalley and publisher for this ARC!

It takes an absolute gift to write a story that's pure magic. Ms. Hepworth is a true artist. She paints a big beautiful picture at the beginning, then spends the rest of the book completely decimating that picture. It's an absolute art form and I look forward to each and every book she writes. This one was absolutely no exception.
Pippa and Gabriel with their two beautiful daughters live in a big house next to The Drop. The Drop is a cliff side that is a known suicide spot. Gabe has become famous for talking down everyone who has come to The Drop since they've lived there. Until a woman comes. Only once she's dead does Pippa realize they both know this woman. She's married to Gabe's ex boss. The ex boss that Pippa had an affair with. While you initially believe she jumped due to the affair, as with all of Ms. Hepworth's books, nothing is as it seems and the real story is so much more insane. I didnt just read this book, I inhaled it!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martins Press, and Sally Hepworth for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
Definitely took some twists I didn’t foresee; this a departure for this author. SallyHepworth has become a must-read for me and it’s great to see her writing evolve.

Absolutely excellent and engaging throughout! What begins with a stranger's untimely death, untangles to begin a descent into the secrets a family has been living. All of Sally Hepworth's novels are wonderful, but I especially enjoyed the setting of this one. Lot of suspense, guessing, and slow reveals. Highly recommend!

This was my first Sally Hepworth novel and while I didn’t love this one, I didn’t hate it either.
I think my disappointment in this book is because I was simply expecting it to be something that it wasn’t meant to be.
This would be perfect for someone newer to thrillers or for a seasoned reader of the genre that wants a palate cleanser after something deep, dark, and gory.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A twist right until the very end. The amount of times I gasped and felt blindsided came as surprise to me. Sally did it again!!
I felt a roller coaster of emotions throughout the book. It took everything in me to put the book down to go about my daily tasks. I constantly felt the need to know more of what was to come in the book. I loved that about it.
The ending was more than I expected. It made me sad, it made me happy, it made me almost numb. It’s a book I know I will find myself thinking about for the next few days, wanting to discuss with people knowing I can’t quite yet!!
Huge thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the ARC via NetGalley!
