Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book! Below is my honest review.

Bear with me for this is my first Sally Hepworth book (I know, I'm sorry!).

Summary of the plot:

Pippa and Gabe, with their two daughters, live in Cliffside Cottage, which is pretty close to a cliff--notorious for suicides. Gabe made it his mission to talk people from jumping, and is successful most of the time. Until now. Pippa notices a woman standing at the cliff, and Gabe, as he always does, goes to talk to her. However, she ends up jumping, and Pippa catches Gabe in a suspicious position that would indicate he pushed her. The woman's death is deemed a suicide, but Pippa starts to think otherwise... Read this book to find out what happened!

Thoughts on this book:

Overall, I thought this was an okay book. I think the author's writing style is just not for me. Every character kind of sounded the same, especially between the two main narrators. Also, I'm sure there were easter eggs throughout the book, but I didn't catch any (I'm also a noob when it comes to mystery novels).

I did, however, enjoy the multiple perspectives and timelines, the familial aspects, discussion about mental illness (and therefore how to deal with it yourself or as a loved one), and even learning abouts wills! The ending also kind of made sense and was satisifying enough, though it felt a little rushed to me.

Would I recommend this book? Meh.

The Soulmate was a really twisty read. I appreciated the back and forth storytelling through the two wives. I felt the characters could have been developed a little more, I understood the action without really understanding the why. But that ending, it made the book for me. I loved it.

Another great book from Sally Hepworth! It was a page-turner; I did not want to put it down! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

The Soulmate, what a fast paced, page turning, thrilling ride. Pippa and Gabe move to a Cliffside Cottage in a quaint town believing it the perfect place to settle down and raise their daughters. After the fact they find out the Cliff by their home is a notorious for suicide attempts. Gabe gains notoriety for his ability to talk people out of jumping, but trouble ensues when someone he knows comes to the cliff sides edge.

In true Sally Hepworth form this story is told through multiple perspectives and timelines with tension, and Easter eggs that buildup to reveal a thrilling twist. This is a book that you will not be able to put down or guess the ending.

I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a book to take them on a ride and keep you guessing. One you will not be able to put down til you get to the end.

I received a free copy of this ebook via NetGalley.

I didn't have high hopes for this one (I thought that The Younger Wife was boring), and I was pleasantly surprised! Hepworth creates a story that's complicated and nuanced. There was still suspense, but it did not rely on the suspense to move the plot forward. The characters and their relationships were really the driving forces.

I enjoyed Max and Amanda's story more, even though it had less action. Pippa was just harder to love because of her obsession with Gabe... but I still understood it. It was believable, even though I was screaming at the doctors to diagnose him correctly. I love the After chapters of Amanda and that ending... so poignant!

Sally Hepworth's books are always a must read for me each year, so I was super excited to get an ARC of The Soulmate. Like all of her books, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love how she parcels out enough details and mystery to heighten the suspense. The Soulmate is another solid read of hers. I read this at the beach where I could hear waves and water which made it so easy to envision the house on the cliff and the drop. Gabe and Pippa were engaging characters. The ending, while not wholly shocking, was different than I expected. I liked having Pippa's family members as an additional cast of characters in the story and how they were threaded throughout.

A married couple moves to a dreamlike place next to a cliff but little do they know that that’s where people go to commit suicide…Gabe has convinced several to not find their end at the bottom of that cliff until one day… Pippa sees Gave stretching his arms in front of it and she goes to talk to him and realizes a girl has just plummeted to her death and they’re both distraught. The thing is… they both knew that woman. Throughout the novel, we get Pippa’s perspective along with the perspective of the dead girl, Amanda, who tells readers that she did not go to the cliff unlike others to die. So many questions… did Amanda know Gabe? Was there an affair? What are their secrets and where will it all lead… a truly gripping novel.

Fast paced, decadent read! Loved the movement between POV and time. Felt like I was inside the brains and hearts of different women learning about their relationships in intimate ways. Lots of great twists and turns that kept me hooked until the ending....slightly disappointing in how it all wrapped up but I don't want to give anything away! Overall an entertaining, quick read - great for a holiday or plane ride!

I discovered Sally Hepworth relatively recently and flew through her last three books this summer. I was lucky to get an ARC from NetGalley. I loved The Soulmate as much or even more. It’s a super quick read with a zillion twists and turns. I didn’t see the end coming, which was a treat. I would have finished sooner if I didn’t have to work 😉

Wow this book was great!
Gabe and Pippa Gerard live in a cliff side home that just happens to also be a popular cliff that people use to end their life. Gabe has talked several people off the cliff’s edge but the most recent woman he tried to talk down still chooses to jump off. Or does she?
This books is full of twists and turns and secrets!
Thanks NetGalley and Sally Hepworth for this eARC.

I have just finished reading The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth.

This is the 3rd book that I have read by the author, and have enjoyed them all, however this one was exceptionally good.

It was a thriller by an Australian author. The characters were all interesting, and the storyline engaging and not at all boring.

The main characters Gabe and Pippa Gerard met in a very unique manner, have two young daughters and recently moved to a small seaside home.

Their new home is close to a drastic cliff, which is known to draw people when they want a way to end their lives.

Gabe has been known to talk to many there, and helped them change their minds.

An interesting book with a great many surprises and twist and turns.

Thank you to NetGalley, Author Sally Hepworth, and St. Martin's Press for my advanced copy to read and review.

I’m a fan of Sally Hepworth and her books and I eagerly read this one expecting to be delighted, thrilled, and sitting on the edge of my seat. I was not disappointed. We start with Gabe and Pippa who have the perfect life and marriage but as usual, appearances can be deceiving.

Their new house is set on a cliff which is a favorite spot for suicides. Fortunately, Gabe is able to talk them down and help seven people since they moved into the house. The eighth goes over the cliff. An unfortunate turn of events since the police discover Gabe knows her. Now, the suicide might be murder.

As the plot unravels, we are given multiple points of view, including one from beyond the grave as the suicide/murder victim has stuck around to see what unfolds after her demise. We also get unexpected familial connections, mob bosses, and other entanglements that muddy the waters.

Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. This novel is a truly enjoyable experience and I recommend it highly.

Gabe and Pippa Gerard have just moved into their dream house: a cliffside cottage in a sleepy coastal town outside Melbourne. It’s a fresh start to their marriage, and the perfect place to raise their two young daughters. But the house’s perfect façade hides something more sinister: The Spot, where the tall cliffs have become a popular place for those wishing to end their lives. After talking someone down from the ledge, Gabe becomes a local hero, saving person after person… until one night, he doesn’t. And Pippa sees Gabe the moment after it happened, standing alone at the cliff’s edge, arms outstretched, palms facing out.

The death is ruled a suicide— Gabe said it was a stranger devastated over her husband’s infidelity. But when Pippa discovers that Gabe knew the victim, she has more questions than answers. Plus, the woman’s husband swears she wouldn’t have jumped. Why would Gabe lie about not knowing her? Why would she have been at The Spot, if not to jump? And did she really jump… or was she pushed? As Pippa works to uncover the truth, the foundations of the life they’ve built begin to crack and their deepest secrets start to unravel.

This is my first Sally Hepworth book and it did not disappoint! I pretty much read it one sitting on a flight home and I was completely engrossed. While the story isn't necessarily a thriller and I didn't feel like it had the shocking plot twist of an ending there were mysteries throughout the novel that eventually came to light. Enjoyed the multiple POVs here between the two women - I thought that was well done. I also thought it was a good social commentary as well as a good story about family and married life in general. 4/5 stars. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for my free digital copy.

📖 Book Review: The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

This book is a classic domestic suspense/thriller with lots of unexpected twists and turns. I feel like every chapter ends on some kind of cliffhanger, and just when I start patting myself on the back for figuring something out, a new wrinkle in the fabric appears. Hepworth cleverly manipulates time to reveal pieces of the story at just the right moment to produce maximum intrigue and impact. She lures the reader in and keeps them hooked until the bitter end. I blew through this book at an alarming pace.

The story revolves around two women and their respective marriages, showing how their obsessive love, their decisions, and their actions or inactions all culminate in one woman dying, and the other questioning everything she thinks she knows.

At times, I did struggle to differentiate between the two female narrators because their voices feel very similar. Their husbands also feel very similar, and while that is clearly intentional, it can be confusing if you’re tearing through the book like I did.

Mental illness is a primary plot device, which sometimes gives me the ick, but sometimes feels effective. I do like the unreliable narrator aspect of only seeing glimpses of mental illness through the lens of a character’s love and limited understanding. I don’t, however, love the use of mental illness as a scapegoat for violent or abusive behaviors. I can tell that Hepworth did her research and it did feel like a realistic portrayal, but at times it gave me pause.

Overall, this is a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5, and a wonderful way to spend some time on a weekend. I’d recommend to anyone who loves a quick thriller.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Despite a few early chapters that didn't really grab me, I was hooked once I got into this book. There are quite a few twists and turns that really had me unsure of exactly what happened and why. I have to admit, I didn't anticipate the way the story ended but I think it is feasible. I didn't think ADHD was the correct diagnosis for Gabe the first time it was mentioned, and they waited a long time and ignored a lot of symptoms before seeking another opinion. The current diagnosis could have prevented a lot of the events that happened and changed the course of the story. Still, interesting and a good read.

Gabe and Pippa have two young children and live at the top of a cliff. I have the willies already! Said cliff is where the locals come to commit suicide-- until Gabe talks them out of it. He's become a local celebrity. Then it happens: the person he can't redirect. But did Amanda jump or fall or was she pushed?

And Gabe's and Pippa's lives are never the same. Amanda's husband, Max, doesn't believe she jumped. Everyone in this story has serious secrets they would rather keep to themselves.

The plot twists in this book are profound. Just when you think you might know why a character is behaving in a particular, the story shifts again. I could never have predicted the ending.

The Soulmate is an action-packed thriller. I read until I couldn't stay awake anymore. I read until I absolutely had somewhere else to be. I highly recommend The Soulmate.

Another well done domestic suspense novel from Sally Hepworth. For two couples, Gabe and Pippa, and mega-wealthy media CEO Max and his wife Amanda, definitions of love and soulmate look superficially similar, but clearly are not as their evolving relationships and marriage details unfold with perfect pacing to keep the reader turning the pages. The story is told in alternating "before and after" timelines and the voices of Pippa and Amanda relative to the pivotal point one of them jumps from The Drop, a cliff at a small beachside town outside Melbourne. Lots of twisty plot points that keep the reader wanting to know why the jump took place and whether it really was accidental. Along with the thorny and often hair splitting definitions of love, loyalty, trust and fidelity, Hepworth tackles mental illness in delicate detail -- but i'm probably one of the few that felt the ending was a little too neatly tied up relative to some of the characters and the path they take at the book's conclusion. You'll have to read the novel to see if you agree as I don't want to provide any spoilers to this slow-build but quick-paced thriller. Highly recommend for those who enjoy Ruth Ware's similar twisty novels. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Soul Mate is another great Sally Hepworth novel. I loved the alternating storyline, the characters, and the build up of suspense. This one kept me guessing until the end.

Strap on your seat belt for another fast paced book by Sally Hepworth. I devoured this on in two sittings. This story features a before and after timeline featuring points of view from the wife and the woman who falls off the cliff outside of the wife's house.

I love a story that is so deeply layered and that features so many twists and turns and this book does not disappoint.

The thing that really sticks out in this book is not only the twists and turns reader's have come to expect from Hepworth but her very interesting dissection of a marriage, and the ability to trust your partner and keep their secrets.

Don't miss this one! Highly recommended. Thanks to the author and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Hepworth always writes such great thrillers! While I had this one figured out about halfway through, the ending was still nice to read. While it’s not the traditional happy ending, it’s still a nice wrap up to a tense, suspenseful novel:

I enjoyed the dual POVs that also went back and forth between time. You have to pay attention to this to make sure you keep up to speed on the past and present.

Overall this was a satisfying read. The one thing I didn’t like was how Max’s story ends. I understand it, but I didn’t like it. He was the only selfless character in the book.
