When the reader first meets them, Gabe and Pippa have a perfect marriage with two kids and a lovely house. Their house is located on the seaside atop a large cliff. Gabe has become famous for saving people from jumping off that cliff. But one night, Pippa watches Gabe go out to help a woman on the edge, only to turn around and find Gabe alone on the cliff, his arms outstretched. From there Hepworth traces Pippa's story in the present along with flashbacks showing the development of her and Gabe's marriage. Hepworth places this alongside the past of Amanda, the woman who fell from the cliff, with her present as a ghost watching her now widowed husband and trying to figure out how everything went wrong.
I thought this was an excellent thriller. This was a great book asking what are the things that make people love and stand by their partner and the secrets that can drive them apart. Once you get used to the rhythm of the short chapters with two main characters and two timelines, it is a very fun ride. Hepworth does a great job playing with the reader's assumptions, omitting information and revealing it often to create twists and turns throughout the book. In the middle of the book I was uncertain of how much I would like it just because it was so complex at times, but the ending was amazing and tied all of the plot and themes together very well. I haven't read any thrillers by Hepworth and will be sure to pick up another now.

I can't pinpoint exactly why I loved this book so much, but it was amazing! It was fast-paced and mysterious, but still realistic and one that kept me on the edge of my seat as I devoured the book over the course of a few hours. Told in alternating perspectives of Pippa and Amanda between the present and the past, you realize that even the seemingly most perfect marriage on the outside, is actually far from perfect in reality. I can't wait to read more of Sally Hepworth's books!

This is my first Sally Hepworth book and I was hooked from the very beginning! I loved how short the chapters were and how it jumped between different perspectives, as well as different time periods. I just kept wanting to read more and more, to see what was going to happen. I really couldn't predict what was going to happen which I liked. The ending wasn't as exciting as I wanted to be and it got a little slow in the middle. I think I was just so anxious to find out what was going to happen. But the ending wasn't some big twist like I wanted. Because it was such a quick, easy read and I didn't want to put it down, I will be reading more from Sally.

I am a huge Sally Hepworth fan, so I was so excited to be able to read and review The Soulmate.
Sally did NOT let me down. I was up until 2 am reading because I just had to find out what happened next. I found this thriller to be an excellent insight into just how blind love can make us and the lengths we are willing to go to in marriage to preserve it.
Similarly, it was an incredible view on jumping to conclusions and believing everything is as it seems.
I wish I could go back and read this book again for the first time!

This is my 3rd book by this author and my new favorite I wasn’t loving her last book but this one was great! Thanks NetGalley for the ARC

Sally Hepworth’s newest novel “The Soulmate” was a fun, twisty read. Although I normally listen to audiobooks, I read this one through an e-book from NetGalley.
As I thought back on how to review this book, the first thing that came to mind was precision. Each character, situation and plot line was essential in telling the story. This story is told by two narrators in the current time and in the past. The story line and alternating narrators are easy to follow (even in print). The lack of flowery details and unnecessary plot lines diluting the story keeps the reader flipping pages to see what happens next.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this well-paced novel that combines elements of mystery and domestic drama, intertwining twists and turns with a believable presentation of the complexities of loving someone with a mental illness. Relatable characters and fully developed backstories gave this mystery depth and substance. I read it in one afternoon.
This was my first experience reading Sally Hepworth, and I look forward to catching up with her previous titles. An extremely satisfying read
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an advance copy of this book. My review is voluntary and reflects my honest opinion.

I read quite a few thrillers and mysteries, however I can honestly say I didn't see this twist. It took me by surprise and I devoured this book in one sitting. This is a definite must read. Thank you so much to Netgalley and St. Martin's press for allowing me the privilege to read this advance copy.

This was a helluva twist! I could not put the book down, and I felt like I could visit the characters. This writer is phenomenal, she kept me sucked in all day! If I didn’t have a day off of work today, I would have seriously thought about calling in to finish this. Everything was so real without being overly wordy and the scenes were simply but neatly set. I did not see the ending coming at all! Fantastic book and very highly recommend!

I adore reading anything by Sally Hepworth, she never disappoints me with her writing. This was a 2-day read for me, and if I had the chance I could easily have read the whole thing in one sitting. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

What. A. Book.!
Full disclosure - Sally Hepworth is one of my all time favorite authors and her latest book did not disappoint at all.
I finished reading Soulmate in one day! I had to cancel my plans because I was so so glued to finding out what the next twist is - there sure were many!!
The twists in this book are not something you would expect, which is something I very much enjoyed here. You could not help but to feel every ounce of emotion that the protagonist felt.
A woman deeply in love. Tragedy. Secrets. Betrayal. You name it, this book has it.
Here is a synopsis:
Pippa and Gabe Gerard are a happily married and seemingly average couple with two daughters. Gabe is a stay-at-home father and Pippa a lawyer. They live in their dream home by a cliffside, in what can only be described as a quaint, coastal town. Pippa’s family including her parents, her newly expecting sister, and her wife live close to them and they all seem like picture-perfect family.
What Gabe and Pippa don't realize is that their dreamhome is right on a cliff that locals know as a popular suicide location. Everything changes when one day, Gabe, who has talked many people off of the cliff, fails to help a woman off of the cliff. Pippa watches Gabe and the woman through her kitchen window when suddenly, the woman seemingly vanishes and Gabe is left with his arms outstretched, palms facing out. So many things run through Pippa's mind - did Gabe just push this woman? Is her mind playing tricks on her? How could this be?
Pippa knows that this is different than all of the times her husband has saved so many. Its her gut intuition and when she finally learns of the mystery woman's identity, she is assured that there is more than meets the eye.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this wonderful audiobook with me in exchange for my honest opinion.

Another great read by Sally! This was my second Netgally approved book, and my third overall. The mini twists and turns were really good. I’ve read so many thrillers that not much shocks me anymore. The characters were bearable. Overall 4 stars for me!

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley.
I tend to jump at the chance to read the newest Hepworth book and this was no exception. It was good, but I admit there seemed to be a lot going on? Maybe some unnecessary plot points? It's hard to explain without giving away spoilers! I really enjoyed the first chunk of the book before it got to be too complicated. There was a lot of back and forth. Not so sure how I felt about Pippa as a character.
Writing was good, as usual, and so was the general storyline.

Wow! Sally Hepworth did it again. I have read all her books and loved each one and this one did not disappoint. This book was narrated by the two main female characters during two snapshots in time. This gave you just enough background and just enough current events to keep you guessing and in suspense. Some how her books add just a dash of creepy into them. I will recommend this book to everyone. Thank you NetGalley for the advance reader edition.

This was a pretty average thriller/mystery. Nothing really stood out as exceptional but it was a quick and entertaining read. There were some twists I didn't anticipate but some that were glaringly obvious the whole time. Overall I think most people would enjoy this book.

This was such a fun ride! God bless short chapters with alternating POV, it made me want to never stop reading. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this.

Sally Hepworth is an auto read for me. I love her writing and her addictive, page turning thrillers. The Soulmate was no exception. I enjoyed the book very much, with one LARGE exception. I am a mental health professional and it was obvious to me where that particular thread was going. It was so drawn out and the mistaken diagnosis seemed implausible, although necessary for the story. They aside, I definitely recommend this book.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This is my second book by Sally Hepworth and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one. This author has a great writing style. I love the short chapters, the “then and now” chapters, and how it switched between Pippa’s and Amanda’s perspectives. This book truly kept my interest from beginning to end. I made guesses but to be honest, I did NOT predict the ending at all and was mostly pleased with how it all wrapped up. I mean, there were parts of the ending that saddened me deeply and I didn’t think it ended “fairly” for certain characters but I can’t explain without spoilers so I’ll just leave it at that.
As far as characters, I like Amanda the best. Normally I’m not a fan of “ghosts” in books but I really enjoyed the “Amanda (after)” chapters. Pippa, I liked her on and off throughout the book. Definitely more OFF though, which is why this was 4 stars for me and it just couldn’t quite hit 5. I feel like Pippa forgiving Gabe all the time and all the comments about how attractive he was, was just dumb. Max I really liked but Gabe I did not. I really wanted to like Gabe in the beginning but as the book went on, I just didn’t feel any connection to him. Even at the end I still didn’t like him.
Overall, I have determined that I really enjoy this author’s writing. I’ve had The Mother-in-Law sitting on my bookshelf for quite awhile now and I think I need to bump it up on my list and read it soon.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. This book comes out in April of 2023 and I highly recommend picking up a copy.

I very much enjoyed this book. While I liked Hepworth’s previous novel, The Younger Wife, I thought this one was much better. It employs two narrators each of whom tell their story in two timelines, before and after and then and now. The choice of one of the narrators allows the story to unfold in a particularly engaging way.
The story revolves around a woman who dies on a cliff. Did she commit suicide, was it an accident or was she pushed? And who is she exactly? I’ll refrain from too many details to avoid spoilers, but it’s a great fun read that this breezy and fast paced without feeling rushed.

I loved, loved this book!
It's a combo romamanxe, famiky drama and thriller all in one.
Pippa and Gabe have a chance RomCom meet cute and after that their lives appear to be perfect, gorgeous husband, 2 successful careers, beautiful children and expensive beach house.
But then there's an 'incident' at their beach house involving a stranger and the deeper story emerges.
Story is told in a then and now format but is easy to follow the back and forth.
Thankful sbd blessed to have received this ARC from the author and publisher.
