Wow. As I fully expected, this did not disappoint. In true Sally fashion, there are twists and turns in every chapter as the story unfolds and sucks you right in! I couldn't believe my luck to see the ARC of this as available. All other books in my TBR list got pushed aside. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

This right here is why I love reading. This book made me feel all the emotions. It also illustrated why it is so dangerous for us to be so wrapped up in our husbands. At first I thought it was romantic and a little wholesome and then I was like "nah."
I absolutely could not put this book down. Every single chapter had a new reveal. You think you know what is going on and then "bam!" new information that reshapes the entire story. It did that until the end.
It was just wonderful.

I have always been a fan of Sally Hepworth. Her latest book The Soulmate started out great. I was interested in the characters, their lives together all in all it really held my interest. But how do you go, from being somebody’s soulmate to both of these characters having affairs? It just doesn’t make for good or believable characters. I was extremely disappointed and really had to struggle to finish this because I found these characters were unrealistic and I really didn’t care what happened to them.

This was my first book by Sally Hepworth and honestly, my first suspense/mystery/thriller book as well. I tend to read mainly fantasy or romance novels, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going in. While it wasn't one of my favorite reads, it was a decent book that I was able to get through fairly quickly.

One thing I really enjoyed about The Soulmate was the alternating POV and how it jumped from past to present. I was a little worried at first that it could get confusing, but I think it only added a great perspective to the overall story and really tied everything together. I really enjoyed getting that glimpse into Amanda and Max's past.

What I didn't like so much about the book was that it just felt a bit underwhelming to me. For a suspense/thriller I was expecting a lot of different twists and turns that I didn't see coming, but I don't feel like I really got that here. The very end was really the only part that sort of took me a little aback and I may or may not have got a bit teary-eyed then.

So while I did enjoy the author's writing style and there were a few aspects I enjoyed about this book, overall for me, it just seemed to fall a bit short.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Sally Hepworth does it again! I flew through this book was so excited to see it was available as a digital arc could not believe my luck! I enjoyed the premise of the story so much and the dual point of views of both the main female characters along with going back in forth in the time line. It had plenty of twists that I did not see coming and can't wait to recommend this book when it is published. For me this was a 4 star book and proves why I continue to read Sally Hepworths novels! I want to thank Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for a digital copy of this arc in return for a fair and unbiased review.

✨THE SOULMATE — SALLY HEPWORTH ✨

Overall 📚: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Genre: Domestic fiction, Thriller
Medium: Kindle
TW: Suicide, Mental Illness
💕This book is for you if you enjoyed: The Perfect Marriage — Jeneva Rose or The Mother in Law — Sally Hepworth

TW: SUICIDE

📖Summary: Gabe, Pippa, and their darling daughters have a beautiful house on a cliff— that is, a cliff where there have been multiple suicides. Gabe saves the day again and again, literally talking people off the ledge, until one day Pippa observes Gabe pushing a woman off the ledge. Gabe is devastated by the situation, but was it a homicide or a suicide?

💭 My thoughts - #TheSoulmate by @sallyhepworth @stmartinspress was a super thrilling and twisty novel throughout! I personally love a slow burn, but this book had me guessing from Chapter 1! There was suspense, mystery. romance, and the two children in the novel were included amazingly to add to the thrill. “From the mouths of babes” as they say… children always share the truth…
I only took off .5 of a star because I was hoping for a SUPER crazy ending… in my opinion the ending would have been more interesting with a cliffhanger (see what I did there?) considering the rest of the book was a wild ride! BUT that’s just me being a tough critic. It’s another great one by Sally Hepworth, the fifth I’ve read!

The Soulmate is a delicious new thriller by Sally Hepworth. Set in a beautiful coastal town in a house atop an oceanside cliff, it is the perfect backdrop for family, business, and other secrets that slowly begin to spiral out of control. It is a classic story of what seems like the perfect family, definitely is not always the case.
I loved the dual character timeline which allows the reader to make predictions early on and then see if those same predictions are correct in the end. The story centers around two families, and Sally Hepworth slowly unveils just how deep these two families are connected. It is definitely a book that will keep you guessing and is sure to delight readers who love unexpected twist and turns!

The Soulmate, the newest hypnotic domestic thriller by the incredibly talented Sally Hepworth, is a mystery you will not be able to put down. And it will stay will you long after you’ve read the final page.

Told by two female narrators (one dead, one very much alive) and alternating seamlessly between the past and present, The Soulmate is a love story. Pippa Gerard meets her husband Gabe outside a church where he is serving as best man at a wedding. Months later, they are married. Amanda Cameron meets Max at a function where she is working as a server. The women are deeply in love. The men are very different. Gabe is a mercurial gadfly, flitting passionately from job to job until he settles into a position with Max’ firm. Max is as devoted to his career as he is to Amanda. He’s unbelievably wealthy and gifts Amanda with everything she might want, except a baby. So as the novel begins, Gabe and Pippa are now living in a cliffside house near The Spot, a popular(?) location for suicides. In fact, Gabe has a local reputation for convincing people not to throw themselves into the ocean. But one dark night, Gabe fails. A woman is dead. Who is she is and what really happened that night? Sorry, no spoilers from me.

If I could give The Soulmate more than 5 stars, I would. It is well-written, deftly plotted, full of the expected twists and turns with one you will not see coming. Each of the four main characters is so well described that you feel like you’ve met them somewhere before. Put The Soulmate at the top of your TBR list. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Sally Hepworth for this ARC.

Will begin by saying I have read, and enjoyed, several of Sally Hepworth’s books and this is one of my favorites. The setting is well described and the characters are fully developed. I got a sense that I understood their lives and thus their motivations rang true. So often, in disappointing books, the twists and turns are rather absurd but here they ring true. The ending was satisfying and tied up story lines cleverly but not so neatly as to be unbelievable.
Definitely a must read!

HELL YES. My literal reaction to closing this book.

Once I started, I couldn’t put this one down. The tiny chapters kept me going “just one more”! Sally’s writing is absolutely inhaleable.

Psychological thriller meets heart wrenching love story. The depth of this story, along with all the twisty surprises made this a hands down 5⭐️ for me.

The Soulmate was my first book by Sally Hepworth, but there’s no way I’m not about to go read her whole backlist.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this incredible arc!

"Soulmates, with a connection that I've never seen in another couple."
I am definitely not surprised by how much I loved this book given that The Mother-in-Law was another one of my absolute favorites. In my opinion, my favorite thing about the way Sally Hepworth writes is the fact that we get little carrots of the story within each chapter. This is the key to a page turner for me. Whenever I wanted to take a break, the chapter ended with something so intense I just had to continue. I admit I was a little wary when we began reading from Amanda's perspective, but I feel like it was done so well and really allowed us to get to see and understand the relationship between Amanda and Max. Hepworth also has a great way of describing mental illness and describing behaviors and symptoms, but separating the person and the disorder. Yes, Gabe was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but it was clarified that his actions were not excused due to this. We were able to experience Gabe's many difficult symptoms, but also see him receive help and begin to find balance. Lastly, I will say that out of all of the Kindle notes I made trying to predict the ending (I had some good theories...), I was unsuccessful. That is the ultimate test. A 5 star read, definite recommendation to any reader.

I received an ARC of this new book by Sally Hepworth from NetGalley.

This is a look inside the lives of two couples: Gabe and Pippa, Max and Amanda. The couples are seemingly happily married, but there are issues. Lots of shocking things are revealed at a steady pace in this book, which opens with Amanda's apparent suicide. The plot is all about what really happened the night Amanda fell from the steep cliff.

A strange and somewhat unique aspect of this book is that one of the narrators is Amanda, who narrates events before AND after her death! The narrators are the two women, Pippa and Amanda, and the chapters go back and forth between the past and present. It gets a little confusing at times. You will learn about an event in the context of present events, then later read in detail about that event when the narrator flashes back to the past.

This is a page-turner, to use a well-worn expression. It held my interest throughout. The characters were strong and pretty real, appealing in general but plagued by some weaknesses.

Four stars.

ARC Review: The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

publication date April 4, 2023

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ 5 stars

The twists and turns of this book kept me on the edge of my seat. Hours later…. I’m still thinking about the ending.

Pippa and Gabe live near a cliff… this cliff has been marked as the suicide cliff by many. Gabe has been successful at keeping jumpers from actually making the leap… until he isn’t successful. But then you learn who the jumper was, and begin to question if he even tried at all to help.

This novel has multiple POVs as well as time frames. It keeps you guessing and wondering how far people will go for their soulmate.

The Soulmate will be available on April 4, 2023.

Thank you NetGalley, St Martin’s Press, and Sally Hepworth for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this one. Hepworth has taken two couples whose lives are intertwined and written a thriller around them. One of the characters dies in the opening scenes but was it a suicide, a murder, or an accident? The tale is told from several viewpoints jumping back and forth from the present to the past. This format works very well in establishing the backstories as well as revealing some of the twists, of which there were many. I had a hard time putting it down. 4.5 stars rounded to five for me. I thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Anything by Sally Hepworth is an auto-read for me at this point. Her writing is incredible. She has such a gift of story-telling, wrapping you into this world and then bringing it crashing down around you. This book was no different. The set-up was incredible and the twists were unexpected. I have already recommended to multiple friends and am already excited for what Sally puts out next!

I saw that THE SOULMATE was a Read Now option on NetGalley and downloaded it immediately. I've seen so many positive reviews of Hepworth's other domestic thrillers floating around on goodreads so I was excited for the opportunity to read an E-ARC of her latest book!

THE SOULMATE is about Pippa and Gabe Gerard. They just moved, with their daughters, to a new home on the coast of Australia. The move was suppose to be a fresh start for the family, but the home is located alongside "The Spot"-- a popular cliffside place where people go to end their lives. One night, Pippa spots a woman at The Spot and Gabe rushes out to see if he can coax her away. Unfortunately, the woman plunges to her death...but did she jump or did something more sinister occur?

Ok yall...cue the "white woman spiraling about her marriage and coming to terms with the psycho husband she married" trope. Honestly, it's one of my favorite thriller tropes to get lost in so I was HERE for it. I love an unreliable narrator. I love a novel about a complicated marriage. This book kept me hooked!

The one aspect that I didn't love was that the dead woman, Amanda, was a character/narrator throughout the story. She filled in a lot of the gaps/holes in the plot, but I didn't like that she was basically a ghost narrating what was happening. A ghost aspect in a story rarely works for me though--it might work for you!

Overall, four stars!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Sally Hepworth just added more books to my tbr pile. I have never read anything by Sally before this book and now I need to read more of her books. The Soulmate was a thrilling read and had me guessing through the entire book what really happened. The suspense of this story had me flying through this book faster then I could’ve expected. I couldn’t have guessed that that would be the ending but I will say it was a very satisfying read. I’d like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for an arc to read and review this great new thriller.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth Domestic suspense drama with a multitude of secrets, lies and unconventional behaviors. Told from unique POVs, some of the storylines blurred and were not resolved. The ending was a bit of a let down, Max did not seem true to his character as presented throughout the book. Pippa and Gabe has a strange relationship. A interesting read, just had too many questions at the end.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
