3.5 stars. I really like Sally Hepworth books and appreciate that she doesn't usually have storylines that are super outlandish. You don't have to stretch your imagination too far with her plots. With that said, I did find it borderline absurd how much Pippa put up with in her marriage. Perhaps because Gabe's infractions seemed so extremely nutty, it took away from the rest of the plot which was pretty good. Overall, worth a read and I'd still read all of Hepworth's future novels.

Pippa and Gabe live in a house near a cliff called The Drop where people come to commit suicide by jumping. Gabe has been successful 7 times in talking people down. As Pippa watches from the kitchen window one evening, a woman Gabe is trying to talk down goes over the edge and Pippa is left wondering if she jumped or if Gabe pushed her. As the story continues, we find out that Pippa and Gabe had a connection to the woman and her husband. Sally Hepworth is one of my favorite authors and so far I have not read a book by her that I did not love!

What I loved:
- Characters! I liked Pippa and Gabe. I loved Amanda and Max and their story!
- Great side characters - Pippa's sister, Kat was great. I also liked Pippa's parents.
- I really enjoyed this plot. I found it different and creative. I loved the connections that came to light between the characters and I didn't see the twist coming at all. I loved that Amanda told her part of the story from after her death.
- I loved the way the very first sentence grabbed me and made me want to keep reading.
- Short chapters! Yes, please! I love the short chapters here.

What I didn't love:
- Nothing!

I like books that give me the feeling of creeping dread, that uneasiness when you're pretty sure the narrator isn't being straight with you. This book satisfies that itch, and has a twisty ending that makes you say...aaahhh.

This book had me hooked from the start! The twists and turns in this thriller kept me on my toes the whole time. I loved how the lives of two couples, Pippa and Gabe, and Max and Amanda, were intertwined with secrets and deceit slowly revealed. The added element of hearing from the dead was so unique and intriguing. The complex relationships and darker sides of marriage were explored in such an engrossing way. This book was a fast-paced and compelling read, perfect for fans of thrilling mysteries with well-developed characters. I highly recommend it!

"The Soulmate," by Sally Hepworth is a thrilling novel about Pippa and Gabe, a married couple, who live on a cliff in a small coastal Australian town. Unfortunately, the cliff has become notorious as a jumping point for those wishing to end their lives. Gabe has rescued many of the jumpers until one night.; he fails. and Amanda plummets.

Told from the viewpoints of Pippa and Amanda, the story evolves into an interesting commentary on marriage and betrayal. It asks us how much we would sacrifice to save something important? How much should we give of ourselves in a marriage going awry?

I liked this book; it certainly kept my interest. The characters, despite their flaws, were relatively likeable. I did question the motivations of some of the characters, which at times, did not seem to fit with their depictions. ..

I would certainly recommend it to book clubs as it would eliicit wholesome discussions.

I adore Sally Hepworth. She takes the domestic thriller and adds a layer of depth that most thrillers don't bother with. My first book of hers was the Mother-In-Law, which wowed me in that way and I haven't missed a release of hers since. While last year's The Younger Wife wasn't my favorite, it still maintained that magical mix of thriller and depth I love so much. The Soulmate ranks above The Younger WIfe for me, but a bit below The Good Sister and The Mother-In-Law. Sally Hepworth just never misses for me. As the story unfolds, it is told by the perspective of two women. One has witnessed a death out her window and some suspicious behaviors from her husband. The other perspective is actually the woman who died. That might sound like too much, but it works in building the mystery from its inception to its satisfying conclusion. Along the way, there are the twists and turns Sally Hepworth is so good at, while none of them are unbelievable or unpredictable, they do make the reader realize how much he/she assumes about situations before knowing all the details. The lessons learned about that are always appropriate for the times: Don't assume you know what is going on in people's heads, marriages, hearts, jobs, families, etc.

I really really liked this book and think anyone familiar with Hepworth's most recent 4 books will be well satisfied.

The Soulmate is a twisted exploration of relationships and marriage, and the ways secrets, guilt, and suspicion prey on both. Hepworth masters alternating timelines and viewpoints in this novel and skillfully maniuplates the reader at every turn. I loved watching how the truth revealed itself, even in the moments I wasn't surprised - it made the surprises even more effective when they did come, and Sally Hepworth is becoming an author I gravitate toward more and more.

“There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.”

This was a wild ride.

Who’s lying? Who’s telling the truth? Who do you WANT to be lying/truth-telling?

Loved the premise and the setting.

Any book where I can hear the crashing waves when I read? Gold star.

Loved the dual perspectives, the little curve-balls along the way (I’m looking at you, Pippa) and how the past is micro-dosed.

I don’t love an ambiguous ending, so unfortunately, I was left mildly unsatisfied, but I’m definitely looking up Hepworth’s back catalogue.

7.5/10

Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Macmillan Audio for this twisty ARC.

Gabe and Pippa live in their dream home on top of a cliff with their two young daughters. They quickly find out the spot is a popular jumping spot for people contemplating suicide. Gabe becomes an unlikely hero after successfully rescuing six people from the edge, until one night one woman decides to jump anyway. Or does she? Pippa can’t seem to reconcile Gabe’s role in the death, especially when it turns out he knew her.

We get two points of view–Pippa and Amanda, the dead woman who fills in the gaps from the past and present. This is wonderfully twisty, and an excellent example of how we never really know a person until we dig deep enough to uncover layer after layer. Just when you think you have a clearer picture of what did or didn’t happen, another layer reveals something totally different. Sally Hepworth is one of a kind.

Barrie Kreinik voiced Pippa and Jessica Douglas-Henry did Amanda. Each narrator brought a distinct point of view to the story, which was simply unputdownable. Their pacing and the emotions combined with the story itself made for an addictive listening experience. The audio is 7 hours and 44 minutes and I listened via Google Play at 2.25x speed. Thanks to Macmillan Audio for the gifted audiobook.

I LOVED this book!! I am here for alllll the dysfunction and drama. This was a quick read for me as I could not put it down! The short chapters (FOR THE WIN! Love me some short chapters! Thank you Hepworth!) and the drama and writing drew me in. I needed to know what was going on at “The Drop”. I’m a big fan of Hepworth’s books anyways, but this just solidifies it. It’s everything I want in a family drama/psychological thriller.

Thank you SMP for the gifted e-copy.

Another twisty thriller by Sally Hepworth. Gabe and Pippa live in a cottage by a cliff, which is a popular suicide spot. Gabe is known for talking people off the literal ledge. One night a woman shows up, and when Gabe goes out to talk to her, she ends up jumping. Or does she?

The reader gets bits and pieces of information little by little, and as the puzzle pieces start falling into place, we get the real story of who "jumped" and why.

I enjoyed this one, although it's not my favorite by this author. I did binge it in one day, and had a few "WHAT" moments. The full reveal at the end was kind of "hmm" but well done.

I read the first 30 pages one day and then the rest in the following day once I had more time. If that tells you anything about the pace and excitement of this book. I found the mystique of the setting and characters so intriguing. The cliff really just set the stage for it all. If you're looking for an immersive domestic thriller, this one is for you.

This is a twisty topsy turvy nothing is quite what you think it is ride of a book. The author does a great job of giving you little bits of information at a time letting you think you figured something out and then giving you just enough information to completely change what you thought. She also did a great job wrapping things up at the end. This is my second Sally Hepworth book and it won’t be my last.

So.... I don't think Sally Hepworth is for me.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for my advanced copy of The Soulmate.

The premise of this book was very promising and I did like the dual timeline and multiple POV aspect of this. By the end of the book I just didn't care.

This is my third Sally Hepworth. I rated The Good Sister 3 and ½ Stars and The Younger Wife was a 2.
Nothing has really blown me away.

Unfortunately I think this is the end of the road. I won't be reading anything else by this author.

This honestly felt a little low brow for Sally. Her books usually deliver twisty domestic suspense that are sooo creative but this just felt... sup par. It was still entertaining and a page turner but when I got to the end I was just.... unamused. It felt easy to guess and she typically writes books that are so shocking and surprising. So while I did enjoy, it still felt a bit like a corny lifetime movie.

For some reason I just couldn’t get into this one, but I’m sure many thriller lovers will enjoy it

Sally Hepworth does it again. I finished this book in less than a day because I had to know what was happening. This book is the right amount of suspenseful. This story is told in dual point of view with 2 timelines and man is that done well. Pippa and Gabe, Max and Amanda, soulmates, secrets, trust, loyalty, fidelity. You will not want to put this one down.

I’ve read a couple of sally Hepworths books now so I was thrilled to get an early copy of the soulmate. Gabe and pippa buy a beach house on a cliff and start seeing people come to jump to their deaths, gabe has been able to talk them down every time it’s happened until the night a woman comes. Pippa is watching from the window and of course looks away for a moment and when she looks back Gabe has his hands out like he’s just pushed her. What did he do? Gabes struggle with his mental health leaves pippa exhausted but has it become more sinister? I didn’t care for the dead woman’s dialogue. But of course sally delivered a few great twists and I enjoyed it.

“The Soulmate” started off strong with POV and time changes that had me captivated. However, after the midpoint, the story became very twisty but involving themes that made me not as interested, like the business dealings of significant others. The thrilling part just fizzled out to me in the latter half of the book that has me rating it down to a 3 star rating. This one just did not leave a huge impression on me, which is unfortunate because I’ve really enjoyed a couple of Sally Hepworth’s other books. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy for review.
