This is only my second Sally Hepworth book and they are always solid reads with lots of fun twists. The Soulmate had my hooked from the very beginning. The deep dive into the complexity of marriage, betrayal, and secrets was gripping. I had no idea who we could trust in this book and never knew what anyone’s ulterior motives were. The end had a twist I absolutely didn’t see coming and literally made me gasp. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This is my first Sally Hepworth book and while I liked some things about the book; I didn't care for other elements. Its told in dual POVs and then and now timelines for each POV that move back and forth through time. I'm not crazy about timelines that move around especially when it feels like the author is using it as a way to make the story confusing. I loved that Amanda's POV was after death. Don't worry, I'm not giving anything away. In general the storyline of Gabe and Pippa was interesting and twisty at times, but their characters were lacking and not completely realistic. The storyline with Max and Amanda was odd but their characters helped the story. An interesting dichotomy happened for me where the likeable characters became the unlikeable and the unlikeable became the likeable. Also the big reveal at the end, I had already guessed early in the book. Now, I can't say how much of my review was affected by the following, so keep that in mind. Mental illness is slowly revealed in this story and I didn't care for the way it was handled. Another thing I didn't like is there were no trigger warnings that I saw and having dealt with a mentally ill family member with similar and worse symptoms and while they have been gone for eight years, I was surprised to feel the anxiety I lived with most of my life while reading this book.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a digital review copy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Sally Hepworth’s books are a perfect thriller for me because they are so bingeable with short chapters and fast pacing and not scary. I love the twists and turns she introduces. I’m never able to guess them, although more seasoned thriller readers may be able to guess the twists.
This is one of her more atmospheric books thanks to the ominous cliff at the edge of their yard, complete with a look at marriage, mental health, and family. I thought the dual timelines and dual POV in this story were a unique way to reveal secrets kept by the characters. I listened to the audio and couldn’t stop listening. Every time I thought I had things figured out, more was revealed. The author played on all my emotions with making me love, hate, and feel sorry for the characters in rapid succession. Be sure to read the author’s note at the end as it cleared up some things that made me cringe while reading.

Great book! Truly enjoyed this from start to finish. It took me a little to follow the back & forth perspectives of characters and time frames (then and now) but once I kept it straight in my head, I was hooked and wanted to hear how it was going to end! I appreciated the short chapters which made it easy to sneak in a little at a time when driving somewhere quick or in between classes during the day.
Overall, would recommend to anyone who enjoys different POVs & thriller/mystery books! 4 stars!

Another enjoyable, suspenseful read by this popular author. Pippa and Gabe have the perfect marriage…successful jobs, perfect kids, beautiful house…but with a dangerous cliff. Gabe becomes known for saving 7 people from jumping. But there is that one he just can’t save. Pippa looks out and isn’t 100% sure what she is seeing…to make it more stressful, it’s someone they know and Pippa is feeling guilty. As the story enfolds, the smoke and mirrors clear out till all is understood.
Told in 2 different timelines by two different voices. Easy to follow and adds to the fast paced nature. Mystery unfolds slowly so it keeps your attention. Not the shocking ending I’ve come to expect from this author, but satisfying none the less. Trigger warming: suicide and mental illness.
Thanks to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.

I enjoyed the writing style of this book. The shorter chapters and we have two narrators, Pippa and the dead woman and we see the events of this story through their eyes, now and in the past. This would probably be a great book for someone who enjoys plots dealing with marriage and mental health; I don’t usually gravitate towards those. The ending fell flat for me and I struggled to finish this book. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

If life didn't get in the way, this could've easily been a one sitting read for me. This is the kind of book I'd gladly throw in my beach bag when I'm on vacation because I know it'd help me unplug in the best way possible. Even though some parts of it did remind me a bit of work (my work involves working with people in crisis) even that did not get in the way of my enjoyment of this entertaining read.
Gabe and Pippa's home is situated over the cliffs of a small coastal town near Melbourne. Many would consider it a dream home except for one catch - it's also the spot that attracts those who have decided to end their life. Gabe has become somewhat of a local hero as he's talked numerous people off the ledge. Until the night a woman shows up on the cliffs and things take a tragic turn. Gabe is Pippa's soulmate but would a soulmate lie?
The story is told from dual point of view (Pippa & Amanda, the woman who died on the cliffs). I really don't care about the characters' likeability as long as the plot has me engaged and that was definitely the case with The Soulmate. Marriages are complicated, truth can be relative and issues related to mental health are often complex and difficult (both for the person experiencing mental health issues and for those around them). I'm also the type of reader who has no issues suspending belief when it comes to twists and turns as long as the writing is good and The Soulmate kept me engaged and entertained from start to finish.
Grab this book as your next beach read, staycation read or book club pick (lots of good discussion material). I anticipate seeing this gorgeous cover in many readers' hands this summer!
Grateful to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for gifting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Sally Hepworth is the queen of family drama and suspense and her newest book does not disappoint. I am a huge fan of unreliable narrators and multiple characters having secrets that slowly come to light. The Soulmate
is a totally engaging and intriguing story that delves into mental health, suicide, corruption, marriage and soulmates. The Soulmate does a great job at both building a suspenseful plot and a layering approach to character development. You both feel for the characters and equally dislike them, and to me this is what makes a great story.
I very much enjoyed this story that kept me reading late into the night. This is my third Hepworth novel and I will definitely be back for more.

"He was the air that I breathed. As difficult as life could be with him it had to better than life without him. Didn't it?"
"I always thought the line between desperation and attraction was very thin."
There are many thin lines stretched to their limit for the captivating characters in the extremely addictive The Soulmate by riveting author Sally Hepworth.
This story is one where going in blind as much as possible adds to the shocking twists that I absolutely never saw or anticipated but when revealed left me dumbfounded and full of glee how this writer, once again, got me, shocked me and spun me all around in my brain.
Gabe is the man every woman dreams of loving her. Handsome, debonair, witty, attentive and a loving father. Pippa can't believe he chose her. Gabe and Pippa move to a lovely home on a cliff that unbeknownst to them is a spot for suicide jumps. Luckily, now that Gabe lives there, people stop jumping and let him talk them down. He's a bit of a town legend. He has lost no one...until the woman...from the window she looks like she might be stepping away from the ledge...wait she's gone! Did Gabe try to stop her? Why are his hands in a push position not a grab position? It must be Pippa's imagination.
The always incomparable Barrie Kreinik and Jessica' Douglas-Henry are just brilliant as these morally gray characters. As the ex wife of a man that stretched every limit I had; I completely understood Pippa's confusion, hurt, and stubbornness to be there for Gabe. He is not necessarily a bad man. He has issues, maybe mental health issues. Then there is the woman. What's her story? All I can say it's not what you think. Some soulmates are found and some are made but some may be better off left alone.
I received a free copy of this book/audiobook from the publishers via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

This was a quick read. Very quick. It all come together in the end but I feel like there could have been more to it.

"The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Over the past several months, Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge.
Until one day, he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral. . . .Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate . . . lie?"
I like multiple POV's and jumping back and forth between timelines. If this isn't your thing, you may want to skip this one. I enjoyed this book enough to ignore some of the annoying parts. I didn't love the ending, but it wasn't horrible and it moved quick enough most of the time that the parts that dragged were bearable. I felt like the police involvement was lacking and therefore made it unbelievable but since it's known for people jumping, I guess that kind of explained it. Keeping my review brief to avoid spoilers.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in return for my honest review.

This was an interesting twist on a thriller! Packaged as your typical mystery/domestic thriller, it turned out to be a really interesting exploration of marriage and partnership, and whether you can truly trust the person you married. I was pleasantly surprised by that turn of events, because it was written so naturally. A remarkably touching ending to a murder mystery!

A truly unputdownable story! This was my first novel by Sally Hepworth and I’m so excited to binge her backlist. The Soulmate had so many twists and turns up until the very end. This would be the PERFECT beach read to finish in a sitting or two. Such an atmospheric setting and overall just a really solid and original thriller. 4 stars from me! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy in exchange for my honest review!

The cottage was suppose to be a new start for Gage and Pippa. It was a clean slate from the past. Until the past shows up on the cliff outside the cottage and now nothing will be the same.
This book explores 2 marriages and the highs and lows of each. Leading to 1 question How well do you really know your spouse?

I found this pretty average tbh and easily forgettable. I enjoyed Hepworth's last book but this one just missed the mark for me. Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book!

A quick domestic suspense! I usually love Sally Hepworth's books, but this one was just okay for me. I loved the setting of the cliff side home in the outskirts of Melbourne.. Loved the two POVs, Amanda and Pippa. The ending was okay and it felt a little rushed.

This was my first book by Sally Hepworth and I was blown away by this book. This book had my at the first chapter and I couldn't put it down. This book pulls in as if you are right there in the story. I loved it so much.

Do you remember the first author who liked one of your posts? For me, it was Sally Hepworth back when I had less than 100 followers and had no idea what I was doing. But I fell in love with one of her earlier books and was gushing in a post. Time to gush again because once again, she wrote a book that I just loved. The Soulmate is a psychological thriller about a couple who lives near a cliff known for suicides and they get caught up in one. This book is filled with deceit, scandal, betrayal and secrets, all pushing the envelope as to how far would you go for your soulmate. I loved the tension and the red herrings thrown in along the way. I loved the sweet and humorous bits to break up the stress. And I loved that I couldn’t stop reading because it was so addicting and I was so invested and had to know what was happening. Another winner.

This is my first full Sally Hepworth novel. I definitely liked all of the twists and turns that kept happening throughout the book - One minute I am thinking "Oh, this must be what happened," then the next I am thinking, "Wait... it must have been something else."
This book is about marriage, relationships, and family. While labeled as a thriller, you could also add in a bit of romance as well.
Pippa and Gabe, a married couple with 2 little girls, live in their dream house that resides on a cliff, a cliff that is a popular suicide drop-off. Gabe is usually able to stop people from taking their lives, except this time, when a woman falls to her demise. However, are things really what they seem?
Throughout the book, you hear from Pippa and the woman who went over the cliff, both in the present day and the past. As the story goes on, you learn more and more about their lives, their loves, and keep guessing as to what has happened.
While it took me a while to get into the book, once I got to about 20%, I got more interested. Definitely worth the read.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion.

Many writers have a formula they follow, and readers turn to them for that predictable but loved read. It's not that Sally Hepworth doesn't have a style. Her books will usually feature a death, possibly a murder, but it will not be the sole focus of the book. There will definitely be family drama. But her storylines are all over the place! I've often wondered, where does she come up with these creative ideas? I saw her speak at a writer's festival recently and she mentioned she has ADD (sorry if I have the acronym wrong), and maybe an active brain explains the variety of subject matter. In any case, I always know I am in for an interesting read when I open, or listen to, a Sally Hepworth book. The Soulmate was no exception.
A couple and their two children live in a house in a posh area out of Melbourne, and the house has a dramatic coastline view as it is situated atop a cliff. Unfortunately, after they move in, they find out this is a spot used by those who wish to kill themselves, taking a step off the cliff into oblivion. Gabe, Pippa's husband, has successfully talked seven people out of jumping. Then one day he doesn't, and his wife Pippa sees a woman fall to her death as Gabe reaches for her.
Gabe and Pippa and their two daughters have the perfect family`and the perfect life, or do they? Hepworth's skill as an author is in full display here, as she peels back the layers of their lives. She takes us back into the past, then into the present, as we discover that things sometimes are not what they seem. There were at least a couple of occasions where as Hepworth led us toward a discovery, I thought I knew where the story was going. Then, bang! I was so wrong, and my mouth dropped in surprise!
Once I got about three quarters of the way through the story I couldn't stop reading, and it kept me up way too late last night! I thoroughly enjoyed this read, and I got a hint of what the next book will be about (when I was at the writer's festival) and it sounds amazing!
Thank you to Sally Hepworth, her publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of Soulmate.
