Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
"The Soulmate" is a domestic suspense novel that follows the story of Gabe and Pippa, who have recently moved into their dream home by the seaside. However, their picturesque surroundings soon turn dark as they discover that their home is located on a notorious suicide spot. Despite Gabe's efforts to talk down potential jumpers, one night he is unable to save a woman, leaving Pippa questioning what she really saw that fateful night.
The novel is told from multiple perspectives and timelines, with short, quick chapters that make for a compelling read. While the plot touches on several themes, some characters' actions and motivations left me scratching my head. Pippa, a successful lawyer, often turns a blind eye to red flags, making her character's choices difficult to understand.
While the author's writing style is easily digestible, the story may feel somewhat predictable and familiar to fans of the genre. Additionally, some plot points, including the use of a character with mental health issues as a possible suspect, may come off as tired tropes. However, the unique perspectives and the surprising twists and turns throughout the story do keep the reader engaged. Overall, "The Soulmate" may not be a standout in the genre, but it is still an enjoyable and suspenseful read.

This book grabbed me right from the beginning!
It was fast paced and had a few twists that I didn’t see coming, I read it in 24 hours. It actually pulled me out of a pretty deep reading slump.
The characters are totally relatable, and I could honestly feel where Pippa was coming from during the whole thing.
I wanted a little bit more from the ending, but overall it was a great read. I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say that one element had me scratching my head. However, Sally Hepworth delivers again!
Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

I am a huge fan of Sally Hepworth and have enjoyed all the books I've read by her! Overall, I enjoyed this book. First, I really appreciated the different perspectives from characters, especially from Amanda's POV "beyond the grave". I also loved the character development of Gabe and how as readers we started thinking of how he was a perfect husband to not so much,
There were definitely some twists I wasn't expecting that I loved and overall I really enjoyed this book (of course!)

As I had thoroughly enjoyed Sally Hepworth's previous novels, I was really excited to receive this ARC and it did not disappoint.
Twisty and well-written, I think this one will be a hit for book clubs.
Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for the advance copy to read and review. All opinions are my own.

Gabe and Pippa have found their perfect home to raise their daughters - a seaside cottage with amazing views. The only problem, the cliff the house sits upon is a well-known suicide spot. Over time, Gabe has convinced several people to step back and walk away. However, one night, he isn't so lucky. When it is discovered that Gabe knew the victim, Pippa starts to question if her soulmate could do the unthinkable. Did the victim jump, or were they pushed?
This was my first Hepworth book, and I found her writing easily digestible, with short, quick chapters. This was fast-paced, and despite not loving the book, it was a page-turner. While I didn't love the overall story, I enjoyed Hepworth's writing enough to try some of her backlist.
This story contains two POVs, one is fairly unique, and I won't discuss it at length in case people want to be surprised. I commend the author for the interesting POV, but it didn't work for me. It just felt out of place in this type of story. Many of the characters are cookie-cutter and flat. Further, this book does what so many thrillers do, takes a person with mental health issues and makes them the possible bad guy. I am honestly so over this. Hepworth does make some attempts to show what treating mental health can do for a person, but it just wasn't enough for me. Just stop it.
The story interweaves themes of betrayal, love, secrets, and fidelity, which unfortunately didn't work for me. Ultimately, there is an underwhelming amount of tension, and the ending fell flat for me. There are no characters to root for, and honestly, some of the characters should be ashamed of themselves. I am looking at you Pippa's family.
I found the book unremarkable. However, this is getting a ton of buzz, and perhaps, I am just the outlier with this one. If you like Hepworth, I would say give it a try,
Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and St. Martins Press for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This novel was easy to read with its short chapters and fast pace. Overall, I liked it but didn’t love it. I think this is because I never really could get invested in the characters. I have read many of Sally Hepworth’s novels and this is my least favorite, perhaps because of the major themes of this book.

This book is so twisty! I literally didn't have a clue how it would end the whole entire time. The plot was fantastically laid out, you never know the next move. We had unreliable characters and two narrators who didn't have all the info. It was a fascinating journey to go on. I actually really liked how it ended. It was a satisfying way to wrap it up. The story deals with a lot of heavy elements. Drug addiction, infidelity, criminal activity, but it all ties in seamlessly to the story. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

This was my first book by Sally Hepworth and I was not disappointed. I was hooked from the start. I think the story flowed at such a good pace. Nothing felt too rushed to me. I liked the short chapters and the different POVs.
The narration was great. I really like that there was a different narrator for each POV. I can't wait to read more books from this author!! Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for the copies of the book!

The author describes this book as a murderous love story.
Gabe and Pippa are happily raising their two daughters in a quiet seaside town. The cliff by their house has the reputation of being a suicide spot and Gabe often finds himself talking people off the ledge. One day a woman dies there, and Pippa realizes they know her. She is the wife of Gabe's former boss. Did Amanda really jump or did Gabe have more to do with her death?
Told between the perspectives of Pippa and Amanda (before and after her death), this is the story of two couples that aren't exactly what they seem from the outside. They think of their spouses as their soulmates, but can you really know everything about someone else?
Sally Hepworth is an auto read author for me and after only being luke-warm on her last two, I love what she does here. She writes this a straightforward domestic thriller, but on reflection, it is much more tightly woven. I like that she brings in the husbands as bigger characters this time and the back and forth and foils make this a really solid mystery. Two cheers for Mrs. Hepworth.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy for review.

This was an uneasy, but addictive read about marriage, betrayal, and the secrets that push us to the edge! If your a fan of Sally Hepworth, then you know what to expect in her novels. This was one I stayed up late to finish.
On the outside, Gabe and Pippa look like they have it all. A cute house, two cute daughters, and a loving family. But then we get to know all the characters and that takes a sharp u-turn. This one starts with Gabe attempting to save a gal, at their cliff-side home, from what appears to be a suicide attempt. Gabe and Pippa live in a popular suicide spot where people jump off the cliff on a regular basis. They weren't aware of that when they bought the house, but Gabe insisted on the not so safe location.
The jumper, Amanda, is outside Gabe and Pippa's house near their cliff and Gabe goes on his usual rescue attempt. He has talked 7 previous people down from the edge so he thinks this will be the same thing. Only, she ends up going over the edge. Pippa was in the house with the girls and only saw Gabe's outstretched arms, which appeared to be palms down. Could he have really been trying to save her? Pippa's first thought was that it looks like he pushed her, but Gabe would never do that so she puts it out of her mind.
This one had a twist that I didn't see coming. There weren't many likeable characters, but the plot moves quickly. It's told from a few alternating POV's. We hear mostly Pippa and Amanda's story. It starts from the incident, then takes us back to the past and the story comes out in alternating time frames until the final twist. This is for fans of Hepworth's previous books or for Ruth Ware fans.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC in return for my honest opinion.

Soulmate is the story of Gabe and Pippa, a husband and wife who are trying to save their marriage by moving to new area. The new house happens to be located high on a cliff that is frequented by visitors that intend to commit suicide. When Gabe sees a suicidal person he always heads to the cliff to try to help and he has been remarkably successful at talking people away from the edge. That all changes one night when a woman still jumps. Pippa is confused because she may or may not have seen Gabe push the woman over the side. Once the body is identified Pippa learns that the jumper was somebody that she and Gave knew.
The story was fast and the chapters were short which I really liked. I disliked that Pippa's family disliked Gabe because they felt that he had a mental illness but yet they didn't talk to Pippa about it and while they supported her they could have helped Gabe find the treatment and support that he needed.

Sally Hepworth is a master of creating stories and characters who are layered and complicated, neither all good nor all bad. The characters in The Soulmate are each an individual, complex part of the narrative, slowly revealing their flaws. The narrative is voiced by Pippa and Amanda; Pippa relies on memories to reflect on the relationship with her husband, Gabe, suspected of murder and Amanda shares the tale of her life and relationship with her husband, Max, from the great beyond.
Don’t miss the opportunity to dive into this suspenseful, mysterious story. You will not be able to put it down.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth in advance of the release.

Reading this book was pure joy! I never knew what to expect next! There were so many twists that I never knew what to expect next. The setting and the characters were outstanding! I'm only sad that it had to end because I could have kept on reading more.

3.5/5
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a novel about a young family who lives on a property that backs out to The Drop - a known place with a steep cliff where people come to commit suicide. For the last 7 times, Gabe, the husband of this young family runs out to The Drop when he sees someone standing on the ledge and he talks them away from jumping off the cliff. However, the 8th person that visits the cliff jumps off the cliffs, screaming. While the wife hears the scream from inside the house, she looks towards The Drop to see Gabe's hands turned upwards as if he pushed the person over the cliff. As the investigation progresses through the story, secrets are revealed while trying to decipher if that 8th person had jumped, or had Gabe pushed her off the cliff.
While there were many twists in the story, they weren't gripping me enough that I had to continue reading. I haven't read Hepworth's other books yet but after this one, I may read The Mother in Law but it's not high on my list to read.
Thank you to netgalley for a digital arc of The Soulmate.

I did enjoy the writing and the twist at the end but felt like the middle part dragged on a little bit.

Another great read by Sally Hepworth! I really love this author’s writing and her ability to weave a story together. The Soulmate follows two different couples alternating between the past and present and how their lives intersect. I loved this dynamic of the story and the short chapters. It made the story fly for me and I couldn’t wait to see how everything would come together. I thought this was a great story about marriage and how each one is different and the lengths people will go to for their spouse. I enjoyed this read overall, but I did think the ending was a little anticlimactic and sad which was unexpected.

My first Sally Hepworth novel and now I can't wait to read more by her!
First of all, I adored the setting. Gabe and Pippa live in a house on a cliff in the small seaside town of Portsea, close to Melbourne. Portsea is popular for the beach, scuba diving and surfing. It makes sense then that Pippa and Gabe relocated to this sleepy, quiet town to get a fresh start with their two daughters. As Gabe overcomes the past he is a stay at home dad and Pippa is an estate lawyer. Pippa's sister and parents also moved to be close by. Life honestly, seems picture perfect at the start.
One day a woman approaches the cliff edge behind their house (a popular suicide spot!). Gabe goes out to talk to her hoping to talk her back from the edge since he has convinced 6 people to change their mind since they moved into the house. However, she jumps... or is she pushed?
Life spirals and dark secrets come to the surface as the death of the woman is explored. Pippa questions everything she knows and even doubts what she remembers from the day itself.
I really enjoyed this novel and devoured it quickly. Not an edge-of-your-seat thriller but more a domestic suspense novel. I thoroughly enjoyed uncovering the past and how all the characters were connected. Flashbacks to "then" from "now" helped us piece together the truth and added extra depth to the novel. Additionally, this helped with pacing and provided more of a show then tell atmosphere. Definitely suggest people add this to their summer reading!

Twisty, sophisticated, and suspenseful!
The Soulmate is a gripping domestic thriller that delves into the intricate, entangled bonds that exist between friends and family members and reminds us that everything is not always as it seems and behind all those smiles and happy faces often hides an abundance of lies, secrets, and swirling emotions.
The writing is ominous and tight. The characters are complex, troubled, and secretive. And the plot, told from alternating perspectives, is sinister and tense as it twists, turns, and unravels all the actions, motivations, personalities, and relationships within it.
The Soulmate, at its core, is a novel about life, love, loyalty, family, marital discord, mental illness, parenthood, friendship, and deception. It’s intense, menacing, enthralling, and, without a doubt, another fantastic page-turner by Hepworth you don’t want to miss.

I was fortunate enough to get this one via Netgalley and it didn't disappoint! I love Sally Hepworth - how she can include twists in her books but not put them there just for shick value. She has a way of making them seem organic and doesn't need to club you over the head with exposition. I will say Pippa drove me nuts in this book. But that's on me, I've had that pathetic blind devotion to significant others. I wanted to shake her!

Sally Hepworth has long been a favorite author of mine. It seems I can always count on her for a book that is twisty, fast-paced, and entertaining, and The Soulmate is no exception. The story follows a few people. First, there is the married couple, Gabe and Pippa. They have two children, Asha and Freya, and they live on some cliffs known as "The Drop." It seemed idyllic when they were looking to buy the house, but little did they know that this was going to be an area where people come to commit suicide, by jumping off the cliffs into the water. Gabe has been dubbed "the suicide whisperer" as he has helped several people, with some advice and help from the local police, make the decision not to jump. This all changes one day when a woman comes to the cliffs and falls to her death, with Gabe right there, watching. Her so-called suicide implodes Gabe's world, as all kinds of secrets start to come to light. The woman was named Amanda, and she was the wife of Max, who used to work with Gabe. There were business deals that went south, and Gabe eventually gave up the life of money and investing to be a stay at home dad to Freya and Asha. We start to learn that Gabe has manic episodes and has been diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar, there is a secret love child, affairs, and more. Gabe and Pippa definitely don't have the picture perfect life that so many people think they have. Overall, this was a quick and entertaining read. The chapters are short, and I thought it was interesting that we got Amanda's perspective throughout the story, even though she dies in the beginning. One thing that took a little getting used to was the different perspectives in each chapter, especially because they jumped back and forth in time. I did spend the whole book wondering what really happened to Amanda, and overall, I thought the ending was satisfying. Most of the characters in this book are pretty toxic, though, especially Gabe. We're taken on a ride from domestic thriller to a thriller involving wealthy businessmen who will do anything to protect their money and themselves. Things really start getting heated when Max is looking for a USB that Gabe supposedly has. I give this one 3.5/5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars on here and Goodreads. Thank you to the publisher for giving me a chance to read an early copy of this book.
