This is surprisingly my first Sally Hepworth book - not my last.
I was hooked from the first chapter by the storyline. The connections between the characters were fluid but then surprising, I really enjoyed how the plot unfolded.
I definitely recommend this one.
Thank you NetGalley for advanced reader copy for review.

This was another suspenseful domestic thriller from Hepworth! It had interesting POVs in multiple timelines. The characters are mostly unlikeable, but entertaining, nonetheless. This is not as twisty as Hepworth's other thrillers but still entertaining.
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve read this author’s works in the past, but this one is definitely not great. The story begins quite slowly and never really picks up pace. Disappointing.

Another spectacular read from one of my favorite authors! Sally Hepworth has us riled up and raring to go from the outset of this family drama which entails so many threads. We have marriage, murder, mental illness, affairs and all the bad stuff that good people do. A definite must-read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC!

An enticing title and premise that for me, ultimately fell flat. Excellent performances by the narrators however. Pippa and Gabe Gerard live with their two daughters in a cliffside home in Australia that's become a popular suicide spot. Since moving in, Gabe has talked 7 people back from the cliff, but when the eighth appears, he's not able to save her. But the story he tells his wife and the police seems off to her. Especially when we discover the dead woman, Amanda, is the wife of Max, a boss who fired Gabe. Amanda tells her story in before and after timelines, in a bit of a Lovely Bones kind of way, while Pippa relates hers "now" and "then". These two couples are intertwined in more ways than you'd first suspect, and they have secrets from their spouses and the other couple. The first half of the novel was enthralling and I really enjoyed it. But as more was revealed about Max's business and his marriage to Amanda and about Gabe's transgressions and lies to Pippa, I found it harder to root for any of them or to care too much. Some convenient devices and reveals that were less shocking than intended took some of the power away from the ending.

The premise of this book drew me in right away, although it was a bit slow paced and took me a while to finish. Still, I enjoyed this book overall and found it very easy to read. The story was gripping and almost every chapter opened up new questions and possibilities. I kept wanting to turn the pages to learn more. The mystery had a lot of layers which kept things interesting! The relationships were complex and nuanced, which made them feel very realistic.
Sometimes it got a little hard to follow the multiple POVs and triple timelines. Another downside was that I didn't feel particularly drawn to either of the female MCs, yet I was very empathetic with both male MCs, Gabe and Max. Which is interesting since I'm usually the other way around - but I felt that the author did a great job of touching on difficult topics related to mental health and trauma for both of these characters.
The ending wasn't quite as exciting as I expected it to be, but I thought that the author did a good job tying together all the loose ends.
3.5 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC copy!

Pippa and Gabe bought their "dream house" that brought them nightmares they couldn't escape. Living on the edge of a cliff where unhappy people choose to come to end their lives, has become more than they bargained for. While Gabe has become locally known for being able to talk people away from the edge - Pippa lives with the fear that their young daughters may one day go to other side of their fenced-in yard. However - when a woman appears that ends up going over the cliff - Pippa discovers that there is more than meets the eye to what happened to her. Did she really see Gabe give her a push? Or was he reaching out to save her? The story that unwinds the truth behind "Amanda" and her fall to the rocks and water below unwinds through chapters of "Pippa", where we learn the story of Pippa and Gage - their past, their secrets, their struggles. And through the eyes and words of "Amanda", where she relates her story from where she resides in the netherworld, we learn what else has really been going on that brought Amanda to that cliff in the first place. Sally Hepworth twists this story into places that the reader does not see coming by first getting us invested in the love-marriage of Gabe and Pippa - and then crashing us into the reality of it. Amanda gives us a look at her marriage to Max that seems to be simply "for convenience" but we find ourselves being surprised by the secrets in that marriage also. And the end has us asking....what truly is a soulmate?? Highly recommend this book to those loving a good mystery/thriller but also suspense....because thats how this book makes you feel. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this advance reader copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #NetGalley #TheSoulmate

An engaging mystery. Many surprises and shocking occurrences. Several nail-biting scenes. Unique perspectives including "then" and "now." I don't usually care for that in books but this time it provided an interesting way to achieve the answers to so many questions. Ones I didn't even know I had. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

This is a fast-paced, entertaining, twisty mystery where any assumptions we might have about the characters are thrown out the window as soon as we've made them.
I loved the different timelines, it really helps us get into the heads of all the parties involved and makes some of the reveals even more surprising. I had no idea what was going to happen at any given moment or how the story was going to end,

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is an excellent novel that is well worth reading! It is a story about a young couple with two small children who live near a steep cliff. A mysterious suicide occurs and the family's life is dramatically changed. What really happened? Are there secrets being kept? The Soulmate is a page turner that will keep you guessing until the final page. Thank you to NetGalley, Sally Hepworth, and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read this terrific, fast paced novel in exchange for a fair and honest review..

This is a multi voice narration with distinctive differences in those voices which is key to this style. What do you do when you try to save a life… and then you can’t. How does that weigh on you? And how do you justify it when by saving someone you really give up everything you are. This one is a thriller that works around love and bad choices. Trigger warning for mental illness. Sally Hepworth pulls off another incredible read that will make you double think everything that you think you know. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the early read.

I zoomed through this one; could not wait to see what crazy intermingled twist was next! Probably a little far fetched in the end but I loved the originality and intricacy of this story. I very much enjoyed how everything continued to unfold and that all assumptions about every character could change. Definitely recommend for something fresh, original and fast paced!

Sally Hepworth continues to be one of the best psychological thriller writers I have read.
Pippa and Gabe have a great marriage. Two beautiful daughters. A gorgeous cottage on a cliff. Except the cliff has become a popular spot for people to kill themselves. When one such jumper shows up, the connection to Pippa and Gabe threatens their perfect life. Secrets are revealed and the cracks begin to show. Told from Pippa and Amanda’s point of view, I could not put it down.

“Turns out I don't need someone holding my board and pushing me into the wave - I can do it myself.”
Thank you Sally Hepworth, St Martin’s Press, Macmillan Audiobook, and NetGalley for these ARCs in exchange for my honest review.
There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t. When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral...Did the victim jump? Was she pushed? And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate...lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.
I was able to read and listen to this book and really enjoyed it! Macmillan Audio always does a fantastic job choosing narrators for their audiobooks. I really like that they do a full cast for the different POVs with their books. Sally Hepworth always writes about disabilities and mental health in a positive way, which is something I always appreciate about her books. The Soulmate was fast paced with dual POVs and a dual timeline. The twist at the end was unexpected. I definitely recommend this book!

Book review 🌊-
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is a bingable domestic suspense novel.
Gabe and Pippa are looking for a fresh start and decide to purchase a house near a cliff called “The Drop”. They know ahead of time that many people have jumped to their death at this cliff but Gabe seems to be able to talk most of them away from the edge. That is until Amanda shows up and jumps. Pippa is devastated by what she sees but something about it isn’t sitting right with her. But one question leads for secrets unraveling and nothing is exactly as it seems.
I really liked this one! Right from the start, the story hooks you in and the action is immediate. I loved the dual POV but also dual timelines from Amanda and Pippa. The ending twist was mind blowing but overall a really enjoyable thriller!
Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the advanced copy!

I love Sally’s writing style. The pages just keep turning. I enjoyed this one; reminded me of her early books like Mother in Law. I really like how she doesn’t make so many twist and turns that you get lost but also keeps it intriguing and you’re always guessing until the end. 4.5 stars

i really enjoyed this thriller. So much so i was reading at work between customers.
The dual timelines before and now made all the crazy twists unexpected and come together perfectly.
I love me a good domestic thriller and this one did not dissapoint.
Thank you netgalley!!

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth. Pub Date: April 4, 2023. Rating: 4 stars. I absolutely love reading Sally Hepworth novels and this one was no exception. Set along the coast at a popular suicide jump spot, this is the story of a family with secrets that are revealed through multiple perspectives. Through the lens of a female who dies, she speaks from the dead and helps propel the story surrounding her husband and his connection with the family who lives in the coast that she died at. Eerie, propulsive, short chapters and nail biting twists, this book was very difficult to put down. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it for psychological thriller readers! Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review. #netgalley #thesoulmate

Pippa and Gabe have been happily married for seven years and have two daughters. They have had their share of ups and downs throughout the years. Their house is near the cliff, a popular suicide point where people jump. Gabe helps random people by talking to them and helping them step away from the edge. One day a woman comes and stands to look over the edge, so Gabe heads out to talk to her. As they talk, Pippa watches while caring for the girls as best she can. After looking away, then back, the girl is gone, and Gabe is standing there, arms outstretched. Did she jump? Was she pushed? Who was that woman, and why did she do it?
In this, we have two POVs, Pippa now and then and Amanda (the dead woman) now in death and before. In each new chapter, we get a clearer perspective on what all happened in these women's lives and the secrets of their past. Very unexpected twists and turns the whole way.
Thank you, Net Galley and St. Martins Press, for the eARC for an honest review.
