Enjoyed this book a lot. The twists kept guessing until the end. Another great read from Sally Hepworth.

“The Soulmate” is a suspense novel told from the perspective of two women. Pippa lives with her husband Gabe and their two young daughters at a beautiful home on the edge of a cliff, a spot where people often come to end their lives.

In the year since they moved in, Pippa has seen Gabe talk a number of people off the edge, but one day, someone jumps. Or did they?

There are a lot of twists and turns as the plot progresses, and most of them, especially the ending, I never saw coming.

This domestic mystery/thriller is perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty and Lisa Jewell and anyone else who likes their reading to be surprising but not too scary.

Gabe and Pippa Gerard buy a house on the edge of an oceanside cliff in Melbourne. It becomes concerning when mentally unstable appear wanting to jump off the cliff. Gabe has taken it upon himself to act as savior to those he manages to "talk off the ledge". It continues until one day a woman walks up to the cliff and Gabe isn't able to help the woman before she is seen jumping off the cliff. As more information about the woman is revealed, the question arises of whether she jumped or if she was pushed. Gabe begins to take her death hard but suspicions rise when it is revealed that he knew the woman. There are fears about unfaithfulness and secrets being exposed. How does Gabe know this woman and why would she want to jump? Furthermore, why would Gabe want to push her?

Such a bingeable domestic thriller that I could not put down. I finished it in one day. That seems to be the case for all the books I’ve read by Sally Hepworth thus far. She does not disappoint.

Thank you st Martin’s press and netgalley for an arc.

I really enjoyed this thriller. I'm not quite sure how I felt about the victim's POV being included, but I understand why it was necessary for the narrative. The ending was both devastating and heartwarming at the same time, and was definitely very satisfying in many aspects. Would recommend.

I went back and forth between the audiobook and ebook as I read this one and thoroughly enjoyed the audio version. The suspense, accents, dueling narratives and overall storyline made it hard to put down.

I thoroughly enjoy this author… he writing style is easy with an air of suspense. Storylines are told through multiple perspectives and in a then and now narration, which allows it to u fold nicely. Her characters are built so well that they seem like actual people who I think about long after. I loved Darling Girls and this one was great as well!

Sally Hepworth's domestic drama, The Soulmate, had me questioning every character throughout the novel. Pippa and Gabe own a home on the edge of a cliff where they warn their young children to stay away from. In fact, many people have come to the cliff wanting to jump, but Gabe manages to talk all of them down. Until one day a woman goes over. The connections that are revealed had my jaw dropping at every turn. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, another fantastic read from Sally Hepworth! Gabe and Pippa's marriage initially seems like a dream come true, resilient in the face of numerous challenges. However, it ultimately descends into a nightmare with the tragic deaths of Amanda, Max, and a haunting incident involving a suicidal cliff. One aspect I particularly appreciated was the structure of the chapters, with clear headings of 'before' and 'after,' corresponding to the perspectives of the characters. It added depth and intrigue to the storytelling, making it all the more engaging.

This book is just okay for me but I really do enjoy a lot of books by Salley Hepworth. I think this one just didn't compare to some of her previous work for me. I first started reading books by this author in the read rovers book club and she has become one of my favorites.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth is an engaging read. Pippa and Gabe live with their two daughters in a coastal cottage, but things feel off from the start. Sadly, their home has become a site for suicides. Gabe has talked several people out of jumping before, but when a woman dies despite his efforts, things take a dark turn. Pippa is traumatized, especially when she learns that Gabe knew the victim and she knew the victim's husband. Despite the tough subject, the book is quick and entertaining, with twists that keep you guessing. Overall, it's a great story with unexpected turns.

Not really a thriller but an interesting story

"Funny how love can remain, despite everything."

I will say that this was one of those books that you were like oh yeah... I've totally figured it out... only to be proven completely wrong in like the very next chapter. I cannot tell you the number of times I was reading and then something would happen and I'd be shocked because I really didn't see it coming. The author does a really good job with the misdirection and intentional misleading... and it really does showcase the ways the characters have told themselves such convincing lies. I honestly spent most of the book questioning my assumptions about things. Eventually I just stopped and was even more shocked by the big reveals that the author dropped into the storyline. And it was like they were no big deal... which I think is also indicative of Pippa and Gabe's relationship. They hide from so much.

The book was a little slow for me at points and it didn't feel like much was happening. Which, in all fairness, when the main event happens in the first chapter it doesn't really leave much anticipation building. Everything else is just a look at what led up to that event and what happened after. It was interesting to get this view of Pippa and Gabe's "perfect" marriage and to realize just how imperfect it was. It was interesting to have Amanda's point of view in the story, because it was like the polar opposite of Pippa's. I have to admit that this was one of those books that I didn't see the end coming. I however don't think it felt too much like a thriller. It honestly felt like a just a story about two vastly different marriages. Overall, it was an interesting read with lots of twists and turns.

The Soulmate was more drama than thriller like I was hoping for. It had a good storyline though and enough character mystery to keep me reading. I bet it would make an amazing limited series!

Overall, this was a typical who done it story. I didn't think any of the characters were likable and I struggled rooting for them. It was a quick novel, however, and did have a big finish. I would recommend to some of my friends who do not read thrillers often.

Sally Hepworth is the Queen of Domestic Suspense. All of her novels are filled with twisty, breathtaking suspense and this one was no different. I really enjoyed the coastal setting in The Soulmate and the suspense was heart pounding. Must read.
