I just loved the first 5 chapters. This light romance novel full of likable characters (so far), and what I assume to be a lot of spice will be a fun time for fall days. It’s just a preview, but I can’t wait to read the whole thing!!!!!

Written by Jess Everlee, The Gentleman's guide of Vices is a historical novel set in the late 1800s that revolves around Charlie, a gay man who is big on erotic books and Miles, Charlie's favourite author.
Even though I was lucky enough to read 5 chapters of the book, I was hooked on it from the beginning. Everlee's prose enables the reader to connect with both the story and the characters. I can't wait to read the whole book.

I really enjoy the immediate feeling of knowing these characters and the witty writing style. I cannot wait to finish this book and finish getting to now these characters. After only 5 chapters I’m ready for much more of this world

I'm on the edge of my seat and need the rest of this book asap!! It is so beautifully written, as any good period piece/historical fiction should be, with already a few fun little references to other famous works that made me smile. The tension between the main two characters is palpable, and their distinct personalities already come through strongly after just a few pages. The different chapters from their different perspectives also are very well written to show the differences in their mindsets.

OMG I need this entire book in my life immediately the first five chapters were a TEASE. What was that?! This is such an interesting approach to historical romance!

It's very rare for me nowadays to like a book almost immediately, but The Gentleman's Book of Vices is charming and witty for the five chapters I got to read, and I'm sure the rest of the book follows. Will definitely be looking out for its release!!

This preview has me absolutely HOOKED! I requested the full ebook ARC and was lucky enough to be approved and I can't wait to dive in to the rest of this.

The writing is so vivid that it makes it very easy to picture this creative setting and our characters. The entire premise is refreshing, unique and unlike any book out there that I'm aware of! In just the 5 short chapters this preview gives you get a good taste of our two MC's with the dual POV setup and its definitely on my highly anticipated releases easily. Will be reviewing the full book soon once i finish it!

I liked this preview, it definitely set the vibe for the book. obviously from the first 5 chapters I can't have particular intricated thoughts, but while I found the writing odd sometimes the characters and the dynamic were definitely interesting. overall, a good start

I look forward to getting the chance to continue reading this book. The sampler simply wasn't enough. I already love the characters of Charlie and Miles, and I can't wait to see how their relationship develops and what drama it causes amongst their peers.

Preview chapters 1-5 of The Gentleman's Book of Vices by Jess Everlee.

I eagerly requested the preview because the description of a historical romance with a dandy who has an explicit novel collection, wants to track down his favorite author of "smut romance" whom he then has an affair with, despite an impending marriage to a woman he doesn't love...well I was intrigued! The preview chapters provided enough to pique my interest and I am already invested in the main characters Charlie Price and Miles Montague and the 19th century London world they inhabit. I also like Alma (Charlie's fiancé) who is delightful and while Charlies doesn't want to marry her - she is not written as a villain, but someone he feels affection for.

This preview was just enough to pique my interest and be annoyed that I had to stop reading! Cannot wait to read the rest of the story!

I didn't think a book set in the past about two closet men would be as exciting as I found this book. It was a tragedy that I could only read the first 5 chapters. I'll be waiting on the edge of my seat to read the rest.

This chapter sampler makes me SO happy that I already have the full copy of the book waiting for me on my kindle because I am so excited to read the rest of this, it's definitely one of my most anticipated books of the year.

I'm engaged and want very much to read more. A fascinating period, & the sample is well-written and intriguing.

ETA: Regrettably, further on in the sample Charlie's behavior and thinking (or lack of thinking) become preposterous. He approaches Miles, the bookstore owner/author of wonderful porn, in a manner so clumsy and unintentionally threatening that Miles believes he's being blackmailed. But how could any gay man of that era not anticipate the fear of blackmail? Charlie works this out so late in their interaction that he looks like, not to put too fine a point upon it, an idiot.

I went on reading up to the point where Charlie is at home and visitors arrive. Charlie addresses the butler as "mate," which honestly beggars belief. It's meant, I think, as an instance of his working-class origins showing up. But Charlie's father rose financially as Charlie was growing up, so apart from anything else wouldn't Charlie have been picking up "proper" manners/address to servants for years now? Wow, did that ever jar.

I was so interested at first, but these missteps put me off reading any further, I'm afraid.

Wow. Oh goodness. Yeah, this book is going to be spectacular. Miles and Charles have me hooked already and I was only given the first 5 chapters to read. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the book has in store.

Let me set the scene: Charles Price is a man who frequently partakes in vices, his favorite of which is a collection of explicit books written by Reginald Cox. He is also about to be married and figures he needs one last piece to round out his collection before locking it behind him as he starts his new life with the wife he can’t love. Here’s where Miles Montague comes in. An unassuming bookseller by day just trying to keep his account out of the red and by night, an author hidden by a pen name, whose books were so salacious that the public called for hanging to be enough back for Reginald Cox himself. This arrangement is fine by him as long as no one knows his true identity.

When Charles waltzes into Mike’s bookshop one night after closing asking not for one Reginald Cox but for the man himself, Miles Montague, it throws Mile’s content anonymity out the window. What proceeds there meeting is sure to be amusing, steamy, and scandalous.

Absolute 5⭐️ first look and I can’t wait to get my hands on the complete book!

Such a delightful read! I found it hitting close to home, having a favourite author myself. I wish I had the full thing, the preview definitely left you wanting more. I like that it's fast-paced and jumped right into the action. Hoping Charlie and Miles could enjoy some romance before he got married.

The Gentleman's Book of Vices is definitely worth looking forward to. I liked what I have read so far from the characters, the witty exchanges and the humor. Charlie and Miles are looking to be really interesting. 5 chapters were just too short. I can't wait to read the full story.

This 5 chapter preview has me absolutely wishing for the whole book. It’s funny and entertaining and I love the characters so much already.

The writing is easy to follow, the characters have their own distinct personalities, the storyline is compelling.

I read the 5-chapter sampler and I’m so happy I did! The preview was great and I’m so excited to read the full book! There was a variety of queer characters that I look forward to learning more about. The writing style was a bit different than I’m used to, more Victorian/less modern than most historical romance novels I read, but I really enjoyed it! I will definitely be picking up this book when it is released.
