I liked this book so much. It was a fun read.
The Main Protagonist - Vianna is more than just a total mess... She's loyal, resilient, and has a whack sense of humor. I loved her quick character arc through the book.
My favourite part of the book was the Dog/House Demon Familiar - Shuck... And the relationship that forms between him and Vianna... I also liked Dee and her friendship with Vianna...
I'm glad there's going to be more Legacy Witches books... Can't wait!

Holy S***! Phenomenal debut alert ‼️
I don’t know where to begin with- this book was all things witchy, crazy and enchanting. Went into this with average expectations since this was a self-published book and some of my last experiences with those have been pretty bad, but this book was absolutely fantastic and blew my mind off!
Vianna Roots is back in Salem to attend her mother’s funeral, a place she’s always hated because of her legacy witch status and the grotesque witchcraft her family/community practices. She comes from one of the oldest family of witches, the Roots, who are one of the four original founding covens of Salem. As a trained witch who could see ghosts, she hasn’t had a happy ‘normal’ childhood, especially because her mother was too harsh which made her fled to Boston 10 years ago. Now that she’s back, she wants to wrap up the funeral, tie her mother’s ghost to her grave, sell her ancestral house and leave Salem asap. But contrary to her plan, she gets involved with deadly witch games and politics and will now have to find her way home.
Kay’s writing is detailed and atmospheric. The Salem she paints for her readers is urban, deliciously paranormal and dangerous. She talks of the mingling of witches with the scheming political bodies in modern day Salem and how they work together to remain in power. She weaves this exemplary web of witch covens, hoodoo, ghosts and whatnot. This urban fantasy has a thrilling mystery at its centre and believe me, all the elements are well-written and is sure to surprise you. Also, there’s also queer representation which made it even better.
An extremely satisfying and addictive debut!
Thanks to Cass Kay and NetGalley for the ARC. Review to go up on Goodreads soon.
4.5/5🌟 (I’m going to be extra generous and round this up because this is a debut book).

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an e-arc of this book in return for an honest review.
This book is magical and wholesome with a bit of darkness. The characters were well developed and lovable. I could easily imagine this playing in my mind while reading it and cannot wait for book 2. I love the friendships that develops throughout the story. It is also a great story that shows no matter what you are made of, you have the choice to change how things are done in your life. Overall, a great story line with diverse characters.

This was not for me. At all. I read as much as I could, but then had to DNF. I didn’t enjoy the writing nor the characters and the plot seemed to be moving along at a snail’s pace. Do check the trigger warnings before you give this a try.

Holy cow this was a good one! I finished reading Legacy Witches by Cass Kay last night and I was so not expecting how much I would love it!
This was the perfect ending to October and a great start to November. I love all the witchy books and one that depicts a haunted demon home, dismembered body parts and witches that give you the creeps along with a man who just can’t take no for an answer.
This one is newly released and I can’t recommend this one enough!

Vianna Roots is a witch. She comes from a long line of witches. Not your average earth witches either. Her ancestors are mostly murderous. She never wanted to be like them or the others in the Coven, so she fled in the middle of the night and never looked back.
Ten years later, and her mother has died. Vianna has to return to her childhood house of horrors and see if she can sell it. Her plan is to bury her mom, sell the house, and get out of there as fast as possible.
The Coven and the house have different plans for Vianna.
I thought this was great! I loved Vianna, but I think Sandeen was my favorite character. Loved the house and the murderous, witchy vibes.

As much as I adored the idea of this book and it being about witches it unfortunately it’s hit with me. I couldn’t quite get into the book or the characters at least for me. So nothing against the author but just not for me but I’m sure someone else might like to add it to their witchy or spooky season TBR.

This book has it all, magic, witches, ghosts, a murder mystery and it is set in Salem!
The plot is incredible and the story is fast passed and exciting beyond belief.
I absolutely can not say enough good about this book!! This is going to be a number one best seller!
So ready for book two!!!
I highly, highly, highly recommend!
Thank you, thank you NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an advance copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.

An original story, different of what i am used to read. It’s much more than a book of withces, legacy, deads, mistery covens is also a book about growth, acceptance and women friendship.
What i liked the most : the interactions with Dee ..
What i didn+t like: the development is really slow
Perfect for this spooky season.

I genuinely enjoyed this very different take on witches, covens and demons. It’s dark with a sense of humor. I love books where the house is it’s own character and in this case it literally is (the house has been possessed by their demon familiar)
Vianna comes from a long legacy of Roots witches that she wants nothing to do with. When her estranged mother dies she inherits the house, its ghosts, and all the coven politics she has never wanted any part of. After she finds out her mother murdered her childhood friend she gets sucked into those politics to try and get to the bottom of why her mother did what she did and who is truly responsible.
A well told tale of haunting and magic. I loved it!

After fleeing Salem 10 years ago, Vianna Roots has returned to bury her mother and inherit the family house. Coming from a line of Legacy Witches or witches that are traced back to the original four covens of Salem, Vianna is also a medium, meaning she can see ghosts and spirits, including their death loops. After her mother's funeral, a strange loop begins in the bathroom, and it is none other than her childhood friend Nancy - who was murdered by her mother. Desperate to find out why, and with the help of her new friend Dee - a witch who is even less accepted than she is, Vianna inadvertently starts a war between covens and unveils much more than she ever could have expected.
Legacy Witches started off really strong, with lots of great description so you could never feel lost. The creation of a world within a world was quite unique to my experiences, with us having the Legacy witches Salem and real world Salem all linked in together, yet only briefly touching. Some focus felt a little lost during the middle of the read, having too many lines open to be 'storylines' and losing itself on the main point to the read. However, it sharpened itself up quickly enough to lead us through to a sucessful conclusion. Vianna herself was always interesting and strong, but it was wonderful to see how much of a substantial growth she had as the story went on. A lot of the other witches were very unlikable, which was just fine to fit in with the story and helped focus on the characters we really needed to - like Dee, Vianna's new best friend she didn't know she needed. One of my favorite side characters was definitely Grandma Susannah, making an entrance right at the very beginning and then leaving her mark through the book in such a way, you couldn't help but love her;
"Leaves rustled in the tree where Grandma Susannah hung. The hem of her brown peasant dress swayed with her legs as she swung backwards, then forward, making the branch bow before the tip of her pointed boot hit the trunk."
Legacy Witches included;
✔️ Deep rooted witches
✔️ Magical wars
✔️ Strong female characters and bloodlines
✔️ Trans representation
✔️ Ghosts and hauntings
✔️ Hoodoo and Voodoo
Please keep trigger warnings in mind, as this book does contain some graphic scenes focused in witchcraft, including self harm, sacrifices and murder. It does also have anti-transgender messages (from other characters), bullying and sexual coercion.

Absolutely yes! I really enjoyed reading this novel. The characters were fun, it held my interest, and provided an escape from reality. I would definitely recommend!

Legacy Witches
Vianna Roots decendant from a long line of murderous witches inherits her family house which she hopes to flip and sell but nothing goes to plan with the house being the Roots Witch familiar which everyone seems to want to get their hands on but can Vianna turn her back on her Roots !
I LOVED THIS 😍 THIS IS EVERYTHING I AM LOOKING FOR IN A WITCHY READ !! I knew I would love this as soon as I saw it and I was not disappointed. I think this is my favourite witchy book of all time ! I want more !
Thank you to Netgalley, Cass Kay for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest Review.

The market is saturated with stories of witches, but this one does manage to stand out a little bit more than some of the others I've read. It's definitely darker, and while there is some talk about possible romance, it's not really part of this story, which is rather refreshing. Instead, the focus is on Viana Roots surviving her inheritance, solving a murder, and finding strength in herself, her legacy, and an unexpected friendship. Basically, she learns she can't do it alone, but she also doesn't have to follow the way of her ancestors.
This was definitely a slow burn and I feel that this book took its time to find its legs. But it really hit its stride about 90 pages in (at least for me), and the second half of the book really worked well for me. The book is well-researched and I enjoyed the author's note at the end, explaining her inspiration for this series. I didn't realize this was the first in a series, and the ending is satisfying enough that one would not need to continue with this series. However, after reading the ending, I'm very excited to read more and see Dee and Viana's friendship develop, and I definitely want to see how the house "cleans up" as well as how Viana's relationship with her ancestors continues to grow and develop. Since the book began with her wanting nothing to do with her legacy, it'll be cool to see how she learns to work with them and how her choices will affect them as well.
CW: mainly have to do with violence and gruesome death scenes, though maggots and bugs make their way into many of the scenes. Rep: a transgender witch who is probably going to become a major character in future books.
I received an advance review copy from NetGalley for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Legacy Witches was a great read with well-written characters and a ton of atmosphere. It follows the story of Vianna Roots who inherits the family home after her mother dies. The Roots are a legacy witch family and the house is haunted by her ancestors. The ghosts repeat the way they die over and over which is kind of gross but also great for the creepy atmosphere. The house itself is the family's familiar, a demon that is similar to a dog and protects the house and has a connection with Vianna. As she figures out whether or not to sell the house the local coven jumps in and bad things happen. I pretty much flew through this book and loved it. I hope to learn more about the familiar and more about the Roots family witches. I am thrilled this is part of a series, I can't wait for the next one.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
This spooky story is a fantastic tale for anyone who loves witches, ghosts, and all things Salem. The main character Vianna is an absolute dream, as she reclaims her birthright as a witch caught up in a mystery. Though I almost did not complete the book after reading the first few chapters, I am so happy that I stuck around until the end. The second half of this book had me completely hooked with the gorgeous storytelling.

I personally found the first half of the book kind of uninteresting. You learn what a legacy witch is, the rules surrounding covens and witches in Salem, and where the Vianna stands in all this, but not much movement in plot. Vianna feels a little whiny to me about her family heritage, only because it was mention so often how she didn't want to be a witch or in Salem. Vianna's only friend in this book is tans, who pairs well with her because they are both showing how they are going against tradition and old laws in different ways. The main love (not really) interest is a total asshole, and Vianna figures that out pretty quickly. And I actually like how the author used the role he plays to move the plot. This and other information given in the second half helps to progress the plot and is where the book gets interesting. The author does a good job with the main conflict once it is introduced and paces the story well. I felt like how the issue was resolved appropriately, and it wasn't a quick easy out fight scene.
Cass does introduce another plot during this first book that I think will be the focus of the second book and drops enough information to keep you curious on that topic. I still have questions, so I will pick up the second book to find answers to. However, it probably will not be super high on my TBR list when it comes out.

Legacy Witches is a dark magical book that is a great read for lovers of witches. It contains subjects like family, disputes within covens, family, and small town activity. Vianna Roots comes home to bury her mother and sell the family home. But the house is possessed and haunted She discovers a long ago murder in the house and needs to find out what happened, which is haunted by her dead ancestors and possessed by a demon. But she finds out her childhood friend was murdered in the house and before she can get away from Salem and the witch world she ran from, she has to know what happened. Good array of characters. Goid first book in a series

This was a 4 ⭐ for me!
Non-spoiler review - When her mother passes away Vianna returns to Salem - a town, history, and legacy she ran from 10 years ago. She plans to bury her mother, bind her to the grave, sell the family home and take the money from the sale and never look back. Fate has other plans when the family familiar becomes bonded to her and she sees the death loop of her childhood friend in the bathroom.
Plot 4/5
Pace 3/5
Character Personality 4/5
Character Growth 4/5
Spice 0/5 (this book isn’t really romance so there isn’t really much)
Writing Style 3.5-4/5
World Building 4/5 (it’s contemporary/urban paranormal and most people understand the general ideologies of Salem and its history so there wasn’t much building required)
I definitely enjoyed this book for spooky season! It had creepy moments, a strong FMC with a desire to break generational expectations to be murderous assassins, a hilarious supportive best friend, and plenty of suspense.
I did find myself at times getting a bit bored but then things would pick up again. I went into this book completely blind and was really happy I read it. I will be reading the next book when it comes out.

Legacy Witches is the story of a woman who returns home after her mother dies to tidy up her family home and sell it. Simple enough, right? What could go wrong? A demon possessed house, seeing ghosts, an intense stalker like suitor, family trauma and witches.
Thankfully she has a new bestie, a sassy demon possessed house and her own witch skills to counter the mayhem.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was lighthearted mystery/horror fiction. A fun page turner that was a nice break that I read in a binge reading weekend.
I appreciated the trans allyship and the fact that she was able, with the help of the women in her life, save herself. The magic was fun and intriguing. It was self published and well edited. Kudos. The story was compelling despite having a bit of a slow start.
Would recommend it to a friend look for pure escapist witchy fiction.
