Phil Wickham’s enthusiasm for Scripture and prayer is infectious! Each devotion read like a letter to a friend and encouraged me to pause and seek the Lord!

Phil Wickham starts at Genesis and writes devotions based on 40 stories from God’s Word until he reaches the Revelation. He gives you a larger passage of Scripture to read on your own, then shares a zoomed-in passage that inspires the day’s reading.

The tone of this book is welcoming and uplifting. Phil Wickham is a highly accomplished musician, yet he humbly shares where he has fallen short and what he’s learned about prayer. This makes each day relatable and encouraging.

The Scripture based prayers are beautiful. Where this devotional shines above all others is through the “Prayer Practice” and “Prayer Reflections”. Phil Wickham gives readers simple, yet powerful challenges to take the next step in what they’ve learned. This often includes journalling prompts and reaching out to church family. The questions for reflection are thought provoking and inspire action.

This would be a wonderful book to read with a mentor. The daily meditations and questions would bring up life changing conversation!

The Spirit moved mightily as I read this book. As I was reading a day’s reading, a friend came to mind immediately. I connected with her and read the devotion to her; she wept and told me how much it had transformed her. God is so good!

Highly recommend this book!

This is a great devotional. This is a book I can see re-reading many times. I liked the way the book is set up. I learned more on Biblical and personal prayer.

This book was not for me. I could definitely see how useful it could be for others; it just wasn't what I was looking for.

I love Phil Wickham's songs so this was a great find for me. Very good in the fact it sums up the bible story and then gives you prayers and ways to live by what you read.

The actual information and advice about prayer here is solid and Biblical, but it doesn't say anything in a new or exciting way. The entries are short, thankfully, but are also a bit repetitive.

The most frustrating thing about this book, though, is that it spent too much time reminding us that Wickham has a successful career, a wife, children, and overall, a happy and comfortablemiddle-class existence. He vaguely mentions things like, "I have problems in my life I have to pray about, too." But he seems to have lived a pretty charmed life so far.

I realize it's not quite fair to compare prayers and all that, but I fail to see how someone who has dealt with truly serious, challenging situations in life, or people who have prayed for 20+ years without answers, etc., will be encouraged by this. I found it actively discouraging, and while I tried to give Wickham the benefit of the doubt going in, by halfway through, I just wanted this to be over.

Note: Over 50 pages here are blank for "notes." If you're not someone who writes in your books, this is just a waste of paper.

I received a temporary copy of this ebook from the author/publisher via NetGalley.

This devotion book is different from most because it is all about personal prayer. It draws us in to self-examination of our prayer time with each devotion. This book encourages us to talk to God as you do with a friend, just carry on a conversation. I think it is a great devotion book, one that is strengthening my prayer life and walk with God.

This is the first Christian book ive ever read, mainly
because I just haven't gotten around to it. I rated it 4 stars because I wasn't entirely moved by it, but I did see it as a good guide for anyone who needs it. I don't think anything could ever replace the Bible, but sometimes it can be hard to find methods to praying, etc. So I think this book by @philwickham is a fair resource for encouragement and
information when finding your own method of praying.

Written in first person, the reader gains a glimpse at what Jesus is teaching Phil Wickham about prayer. With exceptional insight, these devotions on prayer follow scripture from Old Testament to New Testament, Genesis to Revelation.

Days 1-40
A prayer topic is listed as the title, such as:

-Pray Expecting to See God’s Glory
-Prayer Breaks Down Walls
-Hearing God’s Gentle Whisper
-Prayer Aligns Our Desires with God’s
-Pray for God’s Purpose
-God Hears Us Even in Our Disobedience
-Pray for Those Who Cannot (Or Will Not)
-Pray Without Fear

The prayer time is divided into these sections:
—The Story-suggested passage and key verses for contemplation
—The Promise-what has been learned from the scripture, what it might teach us about prayer and how it impacts our faith
—Today’s Prayer-a model prayer that uses what was learned on that day to help the reader approach God with the concept
—Prayer Practice-an example of what was learned and how to use it, in conjunction with suggested applications, to grow in our prayer life
—Prayer Reflections-questions that promote going further in the lesson
There is also a place for notes at the end of each day

This is a devotional that could be reread and applied throughout a lifetime.

I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

This was a great devotional on the many aspects of prayer. If you are like me lately and prayer becomes a chore to you or you are losing the hope in prayer, this book is essential for you. It aligns the themes of prayer with scripture (which is the first thing I look for in any devotional). It is relatively short, so I wasn't losing focus but I was able to align my thoughts and help me receive the wisdom Phil so graciously wrote.

Well thought out with love and faith! One devotional I will definitely recommend.
