This was a really great psychological thriller by new to me author Ruth Heald! Haley Taylor is a mom with a young daughter at home. Her husband, Lars, has no idea that twenty years earlier when Haley was having a gap year in Thailand, she worked as a nanny for a British couple, and their baby went missing. Whatever happened to Chloe and could someone resurfacing in Haley’s life twenty years later be connected to her?

The novel is told in both present day and flashback as we see Haley’s days as a teen in Thailand working for David and Julie McFarlaine, an engineer and doctor couple, nannying for David’s two young daughters from a previous marriage plus the newborn infant they have together, Chloe. In the present-day timeline, Haley works at a local college advising students. She and Lars need to bring in more income and that leads her to bring a boarder into their home, Joanna. One thing I really loved about this novel was the way that the author made every single character have a potential motive. I had my suspicions about pretty much everyone and then the author still had some amazing twists up her sleeve. It was just a great novel from start to finish. 5/5 stars.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book from Bookouture and NetGalley for review purposes.

Well that was one of the most predictable books I’ve read in a while which is disappointing because I was really looking forward to this book.

I’ll be honest this book didn’t live up to the hype for me personally. I found the story extremely slow and drawn out. About 60-70% through the book is when the turns started to happen but even then it was pretty predictable in my opinion. In the end the “truth” came out and it was kind of a happily every after for all.

“She wasn’t sure how much longer she could carry her secrets”

A big thank you to NetGalley and publisher bookouture for my opportunity to read and review an ARC of The Nanny by Ruth Heald.

Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book I will be looking for this author again.

This was a good read. However it was a little bit slow at times. I did enjoy it. Just wished for a tadge more speed in some places. But there was a good element of suspense to it.

Ruth Heald delivers another exciting psychological thriller in The Nanny. The flow of the book involves alternating timelines between Hayley’s life as a 19 year old nanny, and 20 years later finding Hayley as a married mom. Hayley’s time in Thailand working as a nanny ended with tragic results when the baby in her charge, Chloe, goes missing and is never found. Hayley is arrested but released due to a lack of evidence. Fast forward 20 years, Hayley is now a mom and in need of a lodger. In walks Johana, the spitting image of Chloe’s father. Could Johana be the missing infant from all those years ago? Read the book! The twists and turns are somewhat predictable because as readers of thrillers we know to expect them and we are constantly looking for them. Still, the book had some surprises and the author kept the book interesting from start to finish. A fast and enjoyable read!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.

When Hayley was 19 she worked as a nanny for a British couple living in Thailand. Their infant daughter, Chloe, went missing and she was considered a possible kidnapper or murderer. Now it is more than 20 years later. Hayley is back in England, married and the mother of a young girl. When she looks for a lodger to help with her family's financial stress, a young woman applies. She looks remarkably like a grown Chloe.

The plot is good and the characters for the most part are believable. The chapters alternate between Hayley's life 1999, when she was the nanny, and present time.

Some of the big twists will not be a surprise to anyone who reads a lot of mysteries. Some of the events, like when Hayley goes back to visit someone in Thailand at the end of the book, don't make any sense at all.

I liked this book, but it was a bit slow at times. I didn't want to skip any chapters as the story was played out very slowly and I didn't want to miss anything. The ending was good, although, again, parts were convoluted.

It isn't a five star book in my mind, but it is a solid four and I will recommend reading it.

🐤 Bangkok’s killer nanny: In 1999 a young baby named Chloe disappears from her home. Her nanny Haley Taylor is arrested on suspicion and is released later on when no evidence is found against her.
Fast forward 20 years, Haley Taylor is married now and has a daughter of her own named Alice. She is living happily with her family until Johana walks into her life who is exact image of David, Chloe’s father. How is that possible and what actually happened to Chloe 20 years ago?

🐤 TRUST ME when the cover claims that it’s going to be an unputdownable and edge of seat thriller, it actually proves it. This book was one hell of a roller coaster ride that kept me engaged throughout. The fast paced story alternated between past and present and was full of turns and twists. I was able to correctly figured out the ending twist but majority of the twists came as a total surprise for me. I can’t recommend this enough.

🐤 This was my first book by the author and it certainly won’t be my last. Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.

I felt conflicted after reading the last few chapters. Hayley seemed to be up against everyone, but I adored the twist in the end.

A crime in the present linked to a mystery in the past.

Struggling to make ends meet, Hayley and her husband Lars decide to take in a lodger. But the prospective candidate who turns up, Johanna, bears an eerie resemblance to someone from Hayley's past - one that she'd rather forget. No sooner than Johanna takes up residence at their home, more secrets alluding to Hayley's time in Thailand, where she worked as a nanny to an expat couple, pop up. Hayley thinks the worst that could happen is Lars finding out about the secret that she has been hiding for twenty years. Little did she imagine how her entire life was about to change.

The plot is revealed entirely from Hayley's POV, but in dual timelines - from the past and the present. The narrative is peppered with enough plot twists to keep one engaged.

Apart from Hayley, none of the other characters were particularly likeable, whether innocent or not. This maybe due to the way they were written, each of them masked in a hint of grey to cast doubt on their intent throughout the story. Also, IMO, at seventy-two chapters, the book was quite a lengthy one and would have been more enjoyable had it been a tad shorter.

Overall, an average suspense novel. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Such a riveting read. This book had me hook, line and sinker with the storyline. It was very easy to get fully immersed in this book.

I loved every second of reading this. I did think it was going to be a bit slow when I started but it kept up such a good pace throughout and really keeps you guessing. Omg those twists completely blindsided me and were so so well written, the whole book you think it's just really predictable and we all know what's going to happen and then all of a sudden, 100 things just fire off one after the other to leave your head spinning. Such a good domestic noir with a really original concept

Thank you Netgalley!!!
The Nanny was such a good book. I liked the past and current format in this book. A few shocking situations in this book also! I recommend checking this book out, you won't be disappointed! Can't wait to read other books by this author!

Pretty much a story of a young woman just making it who becomes a nanny. Not only does the job change her current situation, but it shapes the rest of her life.

This book kept me gripped and I read it in one day. I had theories about what was happening/happened. I was close but ultimately not correct! A really interesting and well written book with interesting characters.

This was such a gripping read! Hayley worked as a nanny in Thailand during her gap year and one the children went missing. Years later, and Hayley is married with a child of her own. She takes in a lodger who has a strong resemblance to the family Hayley was nannying for, and the twists and turns start there as the secrets of Hayley’s past slowly come to light through narratives from the past and present.

I thought this was really cleverly done. Young Hayley’s youth and naïveté are really well written in the past narratives and she becomes a three-dimensional character very quickly. The situation with the family she was nannying for is fascinating and as a reader you are hooked from the start, keen to get the full story.

Fantastic, couldn’t put it down, it really did have me guessing to the end where with other books you have a pretty good idea how a book ends. Highly recommend ☺️👍

An entertaining read with enough twists and red herring to keep you gripped. I didn't resonate too strongly with the plot so much and found the characters a bit one-dimensional to keep me gripped but it's a fast and entertaining read.

Thanks to netgalley for this arc. I loved this book and raced through it, staying up into the night to finish it as I had to see how it ended.
I enjoyed the dual timeline between 19 year old Hayley in Thailand and Hayley in England 20 years later, this was a fast paced book which I love.
There were plenty of twists that kept me guessing what would happen next.

I will be looking out for more books by Ruth Heald and adding them to my TBR on goodreads.
