Kit and Jackson sure have a way of keeping us on our toes and it hasn’t slowed down in this second book on blackfriar’s lane! With so many twists and turns I found myself drawn into the story and when it all came together it was a masterpiece. The ending made me weep.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. All opinions are my own.

Whether or not you had the pleasure of meeting Kit, a Victorian-era Robin Hood, and Jackson, playing sheriff to her thief, you can enjoy this second book taking you to Blackfriars Lane in London. Now anticipating getting married, Kit and Jackson have a few more adventures ahead when Kit decides to track down a criminal--despite Jackson's orders not to. Sometimes a second book can't quite live up to the first, but in the case of "The Bride..." I'd say it's even better than the first.

I 'm partial to a fearless heroine who doesn't let us stop reading because she keeps coming up with brilliant but dangerous ideas and getting herself into trouble that she'll somehow manage to resolve in an even more brilliant (and likely more dangerous) way. I like Kit.

The relationship between the couple didn't feel quite as authentic just because the level of misunderstandings and willful deception required the reader to assume Jackson and Kit have much to learn on how to function in a healthy relationship. Yet when you look at Kit's background, if you can choose to accept she may be as clueless as it appears, and you can go along for the ride and see her character learn some things the hard way, ultimately getting where the reader is cheering her and Jackson to reach in their love story.

Kit Turner can’t wait to marry Jackson Forge—the man she never even hoped she could dream about. After all, she grew up in the dark alleys of London, scrambling to survive and thrive in the darkest of circumstances. Who would have thought she would fall in love and marry a bobby?

She doesn’t have a lot of money, but she wants to give her groom a gift worthy of her regard. Despite wise counsel to let bygones be bygones, Kit sets out to solve the mystery of who beat up Jackson’s brother years ago. The beating changed James’s life forever, and Kit wants to bring the perpetrators to justice. With the help of her contacts, she sets up a meeting on the morning of her wedding. But the encounter turns disastrous.

Jackson Forge can’t wait to marry Kit Turner—the only woman he’ll ever love. She exasperates him at times with her headstrong ways and seeming disregard for personal safety. But he can’t believe his good luck. Even his brother and father fall in love with Kit.

Jackson dreams of providing Kit with the security she’s never had, and a tantalizing offer from an earl makes him second-guess his new career as an inspector. When Kit lands in trouble, Jackson wonders if he made the right choice.

What I Loved About This Book

Feisty Kit and courageous Jackson seem like a match made in heaven. Sparks fly as their wedding day approaches, but despite their love, they each need to learn something before they say their vows. Griep weaves together swoony romance with danger, intrigue, and mystery in this sequel to The Thief of Blackfriars Lane. Readers will relate to Kit’s fierce independence and quest to understand how independence can remain a strength in a marriage relationship. Jackson struggles to understand how to love Kit as she is, not as he imagines she should be.

Fans of Roseanne M. White and Jen Turano will enjoy this inspirational book.

1885 London. Oh it's good to return to Kit and Jackson's story. Two loveable, stubborn, independent, deadly skilled people who are well suited. But this much independence makes it hard to give the lead to the other and to build trust, when they hold back in order to fight crime and solve cases in their own way. Interesting cases and mysteries for them to solve, coming close to home. Thoroughly enjoyable read every second of the way!

Wanted to love this one but I got really frustrated with Jackson and his deep bitterness. It made him mean and rude to Kit and made the story a bit depressing at times. The love they found in book one was still there but often overshadowed by the hurt between them. The rest of the story was good with plenty of suspense and theories to follow. I just had such a hard time with Jackson here. Perhaps this intense disagreement will prove helpful in the long run but it definitely skewed my desire to read the next story. Hopefully he’s better after this.

Despite being engaged to Jackson, Kit continues to pursue leads on her own and has all kinds of mishaps. She and Jackson are both working on cases that they don’t want to tell the other about and it causes some tension in their relationship. The things that attracted Jackson to Kit now make him a little crazy.

I enjoyed the hair-raising adventures and the mystery. Danger abounds for Kit & Jackson. It was a little hard at times taking in Jackson’s anger and reluctance to forgive. He has a lot of growing to do and thankfully there is hope for him. I enjoy seeing Kit and Jackson working together and hope there are more stories of their escapades.

This was so much fun to be back on the streets of London and be reunited with Jackson and Kit. They are approaching their upcoming wedding but of course get entangled in some mysteries and difficulties. As they delve deeper into these mysteries they learn more about their own personal history.

This was wonderful to read as I reacquainted myself with the characters. The pages turned quickly as I enjoyed the story.

2.5 stars - thoughts below!

I absolutely loved Book 1, The Thief of Blackfriars Lane, gave it 4 stars and had so much fun learning all about Jackson and Kit's adventures together. Unfortunately, Book 2 disappointed me personally.

We follow Jackson and Kit on their journey to marriage but end up trying to reconcile their differences. Kit wants to help Jackson by trying to solve a family mystery for him but as she works through that she uncovers more than she bargained for. Can Kit and Jackson work everything out? Will they solve the mysteries they are working on?

What I liked:
- The faith content was great.
- Enjoyed the mysteries we were trying to figure out
- I liked the ending and how it was wrapped up overall.

What I didn’t like:
- Kit and Jackson fighting most of the book. They were supposed to be so “in love” but they had misunderstanding after misunderstanding and were so easy to just be like – ok, we’re not going to be together anymore. That’s my biggest disappointment here. For 70-75% of the book, the plot is them arguing and not together trying to solve their own mysteries and that was disappointing to me. I was hoping to see more of them working together in this story versus the romantic angst. I felt like we had so much miscommunication too and I personally don’t like that.

Overall, the storyline itself was good and I enjoyed the details of each mystery but felt like the drama between Kit and Jackson took away from the storyline and went on too long. Thank you to Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy for me to honestly read and review.

I really enjoy this series. It has a great plot, lots of moving parts and intrigue. I do recommend reading them in order because there is quite a lot to pick up on from the first book and I could imagine being confused if I hadn’t read it prior to this one. I still really like Jackson, and this book really explores his and Kit’s relationship. If you like clean romantic mysteries this would be a good choice for you. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun, nerve wracking, and frustrating story. It was fun because I have come to love Michelle Greip’s skill at putting together a story, and  I enjoyed reading more about Kit and Jackson. It was nerve wracking because Kit kept finding herself in dangerous positions and a way to extricate herself. Of course, since it was a fictitious book, I knew there had to be a way out. But at times I couldn’t imagine how.  It was also a frustrating story because I wanted to shake Kit and Jackson both and and get them to see the foolishness of their pettiness in not making up with each other. I really appreciated the lesson that both Kit and Jackson learned throughout this book, that truth, being honest with one another, is the most important part of having a good relationship, first with other humans and with God. There were a lot of surprises in this book, things that caught me by surprise. I like authors who can do that. I will continue to watch for books from Michelle Greip; she is an excellent writer.

I received a review copy of this book from NetGalley, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

I just love these characters, and have truly enjoyed this book series! While Kit and Jackson find themselves at odds, it turns out that they need each other in order to survive the streets of London--and to solve the mysteries surrounding them!

I love the themes of redemption in The Bride of Blackfriar's Lane--redemption from selfishness, from our own mistakes, and from their own haunting pasts.

It was so much fun being back in Blackfriars! Kit and Jackson are just as curious as ever, however The Bride of Blackfriars Lane was not up to par with the first book. The relationship between Kit and Jackson seemed off. Jackson seemed embarrassed of Kit at times and Jackson's dream of being a investigator (which was such a big part of the first book) was lost in this one. I still enjoyed this one however.

Definitely happy to see this book! I can't believe it's been a while since the first book has been out. This novel is even better than the first one for sure! Loved every minute of it! Action packed from beginning to end you'll not want this exciting novel to end! You'll be invested in this novel until the very end! It's so worth it! Griep is just so awesome with a pen! I always look forward to seeing what she writes next. I'm anxiously biting my nails for the next one! 5 stars for sure and certain! A satisfying read that makes the heart full. I highly recommend! The Bride of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep is the second book in her Blackfriars Lane series. As Kit Turner’s wedding day approaches, she wants to give her groom, Detective Jackson Forge, the perfect wedding gift; justice and the answers to a family mystery. But her investigation starts a series of events that will have devastating consequences. The storyline was good. I just had a hard time getting past all the pettiness between Kit and Jackson. There was no give and take, no communication; all they wanted to do was control and blame each other. The story had potential that wasn’t accessed.

I had the pleasure and enjoyed the beginning of Michelle Griep’s Blackfriars Lane series,
The Thief of Blackfriars Lane. I was excited to have the opportunity to read the second installment, The Bride of Blackfriars Lane. Since this is a series, I recommend for readers to begin the series from the beginning. I enjoyed catching up with Jackson and Kit and seeing what adventure awaited them this go round. It was fun to get caught up in the mystery, suspense, twists and turns. What a fabulous read!

I am giving The Bride of Blackfriars Lane a very well deserved five plus stars. I believe readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. I can not wait to get my hands on the third installment from the Blackfriars Lane series to see what happens next.

I received a paperback copy of The Bride of Blackfriars Lane from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

I love Michelle Griep’s books. They are always adventurous and fun and immersive. Her Kit and Jackson novels are among my favorites. I love this dynamic detective duo and reading about their impending wedding was pure entertainment.

Kit is my favorite type of heroine. She’s intelligent (in unconventional ways) and she’s tough and she really doesn’t care what others think of her. Yet we see a loving, caring side to her when it comes to Jackson, his father, and his brother. Reading about her adventures and mishaps was so much fun and I had a blast revisiting this character. And Jackson is just a beguiling hero. He’s gallant and supportive and the love he has for Kit is palpable. They’re the perfect pair and I love reading about them!

Griep is the queen of bringing Victorian London to life in her books. The soot stained cobble stone streets fill your mind as you read, and her style harkens back to Dickens.

Lovers of adventurous Christian historical romance will want to run, not walk, to the bookstore and snag a copy of The Bride of Blackfriars Lane!

The second adventure of Kit and Jackson is full of excitement, mystery, true love, and romantic tension that ends with an oh-so-satisfying happily ever after! I highly anticipated this sequel to The Thief of Blackfriars Lane, where we get to see more of Kit and Jackson tackling crime in Victorian London as police detectives in love. I was sad to see them go through a period of strife in their relationship, but I do think Michelle Griep wrote it well and in such a way that made sense for the characters. We saw them resolve real issues they would face as such different people beyond the end of the first story. I always adore reading sequels because I get to see the continuation of a couple’s romance after I close the first book. Michelle Griep delivers plenty of intrigue, daring rescues, romance, and witty banter in this fantastic sequel, and I hope we get to see more of Kit and Jackson in the future!

I received a copy of this book for review purposes. My thoughts are my own— I really did love it!

It was so much fun to rejoin Kit Turner and Inspector Jackson Forge in their many antics as they seek to bring criminals to justice in some quite unconventional ways. Set in 1885 London, the pair has a bit more leeway than today's law enforcement. The tension created in Kit and Jackson's relationship by Kit's arriving several hours late for their wedding adds additional interest to the tale. While I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining read, I must admit the ending fell a little flat, with both main characters arriving at a plan that did not match up with the conversations leading up to the climax. Nevertheless, the book is rollicking fun, and I do recommend it.

Detective Jackson Forge can hardly wait to marry the street-sly swindler who’s turned his life upside down. Kit Turner is equally excited to wed the handsome detective, and what better way to show her love than providing him with a gift any man of the law would love? She determines to bring to justice the men who years ago maimed his brother—despite Jackson’s warning to leave the past in the past. As she digs into the mystery of what happened, she unwittingly tumbles into her own history and endangers her future happiness with Jackson. (Netgalley synopsis)

Michelle Griep’s Thief of Blackfriars Lane was my first Netgalley read, so this series has a special place in my heart. Michelle Griep has an uncanny knack for visual phrases. I can imagine the characters and the places. I can also feel the emotions coming off of Kit and Jackson.

Speaking of, Kit and Jackson seem to be having some difficulties with getting married. They parry and thrust like any other couple following the “honeymoon phase”, and allow their own pride to cause many problems. At times it felt too much, some of the angst. That could just be my feelings, since I am not a fan of angsty writing.

The mysteries all flowed well together. Who is stealing trinkets and smuggle them? Who is stalking and attacking Jackson? What is young Freddie up to? And who are the bones that Kit found? And what does any of it have to do with Kit’s mother? All of these questions are answered.

I will also say that the ending feels me feeling bereft. I want to know what happened in the missing year. Maybe Michelle Griep will write the adventure in book 3?

Overall I rate this novel 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I have been waiting for this book! I loved The Thief of Blackfriars Lane and was so happy to see that this second book is now available. I did receive my advanced reader's copy of the book from Barbour Publishing and NetGalley and this is my own unsolicited opinion.

Readers are back in Victorian London with Inspector Jackson Forge and the wild beauty Kit Turner. The couple are anticipating their wedding day. Everything will go according to plan, correct? If you read the first book then you remember Kit, right? She has her heart set on a wedding gift for the love of her life, no matter what it takes. This is no fairy tale romance and hearts may be broken. From undercover work to an explosive meeting this is one story I could not put down, even if I wanted to. I love it! Jackson and Kit are wonderful characters, and I will say that you really should read the first book because you want their back story. It can be a stand-alone book but...
