Thank you Netgallley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

The whole premise of Prep School For Serial Killers had me intrigued from the beginning. This book is a dystopian setting we follow Anathema who is enrolled in a school that train’s their students to be assassins. This builds to the end for when it is Killslip day, which is when students get an assignment to kill one of their peers.

This book seemed like a great book for me but it fell flat. I feel like the book was more longer than it should’ve been even though it was about 300 pages. A-lot of detail dumping, too much on the scenery some were ok but did feel dragged in descriptions. I think Anathema had the potential to be a stronger character but at some points characterisation fell flat also. The classroom scenes were boring and just dragged a bit for me.

I felt the political side could’ve been fleshed out a lot more. To understand a lot more and to clarify some points.

Overall, an intriguing premise that left much to be yearned for.

This book was thrilling in all the ways I hoped for! It delivered on the promise of the premise and really out did it with its twists and turns. Prep school for serial killers, for me was such a fun, thrilling read. The main character is one to root for in my opinion and the lush, dark world that was built was so good.

I'm going, to be honest - I saw the title and I was intrigued instantly! I am happy to say I was not let down with this one. It's a horror fan's perfect wish but be warned it is very gory, if you're sensitive to gore and violence this is NOT the book for you. The story is an easy-to-read fast-paced adventure that will leave you hooked and on the edge of your seat until the very end. I LOVED this one.

I really enjoyed this ya dystopian book. I enjoyed that the main character didn’t go after a romance and loved the whole premise. It’s the dystopian story we love but with new and fresh ideas

I could not get into this book. I’m not sure what it was, but the writing couldn’t grip me. The title sucked me in but after that, i couldn’t get further than chapter 2.

Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The title of this book instantly caught my eye as it seemed right up my alley and unlike anything I had yet read. A school for training killers?! I absolutely loved it.

The writing is superb! It’s fast paced and there were so many twists and turns. There is dark humor and even some gore.

If you’re into that kind of thing, I definitely recommend.

I found this in the teen/ya section and really think that some of the scenes are too graphic for a younger audience. That said, though, I loved this book.
The world of the future was so crafted so believably with its governmental oversight and intervention and the way that they made the problems and then found a way to profit off the harmful effects they caused.
I adored the names of these students, everything from Vex and Anathema to Robber and Dexter. Very brilliantly believable serial killer names but not too 'out-there'.
I'm not sure what it says about me as a person that I preferred Anamthema when she was taking the mood suppressants to when she freed herself from their control but I was fond of her ruthless ambivalence and cool-headedness.
The back and forth between Anathema and Mary's journal could have been differentiated better but maybe it was because I was reading an ebook. Maybe in the physical copy it was in a different font or italicised or something but not in the ebook version. Because of that sometimes it took me a few paragraphs to realise that it was the journal and not Anathema's thoughts.
It was comped as "Harry Potter meets Hunger Games" which is true in the boarding school, last one standing aspect. But it really has the feel of a more adult book. A school for assassins goes Battle Royale.
Any one who loved murder podcasts or crime documentaries would love this book.

I did not love this book - I was fascinated by the concept but was instantly put off by the constant repetition of the psychopathic levels and childish language.

I just finished Prep School for Serial Killers. Overall, I enjoyed the book and am now hoping for a sequel! This can't be the end of Anathema's journey! I need to know more!
I will say that the book did start off a bit slowly. But, I was intrigued by what the book was about, which kept me pushing through the beginning. And I'm glad I did! I have so many questions, though! And I am dying to know more about the deeper story- the school's role in everything, what the outside world is like, and how and why the government is pushing for so many trained assassins.
I will say that after reading the book, I feel like the title doesn't fit very well. It seems to be that the students are trained to be assassins, and not necessarily serial killers.
Again, overall this book is very good. It really starts picking up speed around the halfway point, and doesn't stop until the last page! I hope to read a sequel someday soon!

I hate to say it, but I really could not get into this book and had to give it up. I thought the concept sounded really intriguing, but I found the characters very flat and the storytelling very disengaging.

This book was thrilling! I loved the pace of it as it captured my attention so quickly! The premise was well written and is the main reason I wanted to read an arc and it lived up to my expectations! I wish I had read this during autumn as the vibes would’ve matched perfectly, but I still enjoyed it regardless of the season.

I was not a huge fan of this book, it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting it to be. Theres really not much to say about it other than I just wasn’t a big fan of it!

In our future world, people have become more and sociopathic. Those on the extreme end of the sociopathy scale, as determined by testing in childhood, are placed into special schools to become killers. Before they finish school, there’s a big day wherein juniors and seniors participate in Kill Slip Day: each student gets the name of another student who is their target for the next 24 hours. Anathema is nearing her first Kill Slip Day when she starts to feel she’s being targeted in another way.

I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, I love the premise and through much of the book, I was engrossed and interested to know what would happen. The writing and much of the plotting are good. On the other hand, the naming is a bit too cute (Anathema? Really?), nearly prompting me to bail out early (she’s not the only one with a name like this), and the ending is a bit of a disappointment. I do see a lot of potential in this author, though.

Prep School for Serial Killers by Tara Platt drew me in with its premise of a dystopian future where sociopathic children are trained as assassins by a shadowy government organisation. On the verge of graduating from one such school top student Anathema Blight finds the diary of a student from an earlier class and reading it causes her to question everything she' has been trained to believe since early childhood but with the clock ticking down and a huge target on her back in a setting where everyone is a skilled killer, time is running out for her to uncover the truth.
While the premise was interesting and the story had promise I really struggled with the writing style, there was a lot of information dumping and some ambiguity between two different timeliness. Oftentimes I found the style quite stilted or disjointed, it just didn't seem to flow naturally and this really took away from my enjoyment of the book.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

I was intrigued by the concept of this book, but I just couldn't get through it. Despite the intrigue the author tried to build around Mary and the perilous world in which the main character, Anathema, existed, I just couldn't get interested. Though classified as young adult, I definitely feel it was a bit too gory for the genre, unless we're talking about the upper end of young adult, early 20s. I also felt like the descriptions were a little much, and there wasn't a clear delineation between the journal entries and normal text, though I assume this will be fixed in the final draft.

This novel is set amid an uncompromising vision of a dystopian future. It was an intriguing and absorbing read. I really enjoyed this book and it will appeal fans of thrillers.

This book so took my breath away. It keeps up a furiously exciting pace right throughout the book. The only bit I did not like was the ending - it obviously is the first of a series of books. I really need to know what happens to Ana. Very exciting and a bit gory but look at the title, what would you expect.

I definitely enjoyed this YA dystopian novel, set in a school for serial killers. I loved the idea, and Ana was an interesting titular character. In particular, I loved the description of the classes and teachers, and I would have liked a lot more of that.

It reminded me of the Hunger Games, not just because Killslip Day was very similar to the games as a concept, but also because of the string parallels between Hunting and President Snow.

Also reminded me a lot of the Scholomance novels by Naomi Novik, although I didn’t enjoy this as much.

I found some of the plot a bit slow at times, and I saw a couple of the twists coming. But definitely a decent read and worth picking up. I’ll be checking out the sequel for sure.

There's a lot of potential and ideas but I found the book a bit confusing even if it's very interesting.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

In the world of the novel we see a war-torn land, which has clearly suffered greatly, and things that we might regard as unusual have now become commonplace. One of these things is psychopathy.
For reasons that never really get explained, the inhabitants of this future world are medicated and controlled. The traits we associate with psychopathy have become much revered, and our setting is a boarding school established solely for the purpose of training sociopaths.
It’s hard to warm to these teens as they are lacking many of the characteristics that we might find ourselves drawn to. However, our main character (Ana) is someone that it’s hard not to empathise with as she finds herself caught up in a much bigger game.
During our time at the school we sense the factions developing. We see the ideological lines on which this society operates, and watch as Ana learns about her past and is entrusted with a potentially life-changing task.
Once we build up to the crux of the story, I found it hard to engage fully as we were kept rather in the dark about the motivations from characters. There were some interesting characters, and a few squeamish scenes.
I’m grateful to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this prior to publication in exchange for my thoughts.
