I picked up this book because I have been working with my grandson with reading. To get him in the habit, I use audiobooks while in the car to help out. I try to chose things that are educational, informative and yet still fun. This book did not disappoint. He learned many things about blood via a pineapple-spinach smoothie shop (good for humans but not for vampires!) The book is funny and chock full of facts about blood packed into a short 40 pages. I can't wait for the author's next STEM title (this one is the second). I want to thank #Netgalley and #Macmillan Audio #Macmillan Young Listeners for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Turns out this is a kids book on why giving blood is a good thing. The book uses vampires to help explain how and why blood works and why donating it can be a good thing. I listened to this as an audiobook but wish I had read the print version. I think the illustrations would have helped make the point and the importance of the story clearer, but overall, I enjoyed it.

The narration was so much fun for this! Teaching kids about the usefulness of their blood from a vegan vampire was so cute and hilarious. Can't wait to share this with the youngers in my book club :)

I got this book for my grandson thinking it was going to be about Halloween however it was more about a person's blood and heart. It was educational and Bentley was not happy about that.

He was like if I want to read a book on my own I don't want it to be educational. I can totally understand that. I did make him finish the book and he did laugh once!

The book itself is good and very informative, I just think it's going to be hard to get kids to listen or read about education on their own time.

I did listen to it and I can see his point however the sound effects were excellent and the narrator did a great job.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me and my grandson to listen to this book.

This is a book I personally think should be read to every child. It was very educational and talked about the importance of donating blood. The author did a great job of breaking down how blood works and what it does in a way my 5 year old grandson even understood. He also loved the narrator and his vampire accent. Overall I think this is a good book for both children and parents. It introduces them to how their body works and all the benefits blood has.

This was a super cute way to learn about blood. My kindergartener and I listened to this audiobook on the way to school and in the drop off line. All of the information packed in on the backdrop of the funny story of a vampire just wanting a drink of blood was entertaining. I definitely recommend for elementary aged kids.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was so much fun! It took something that's literally within all of us and made it super engaging and fun for kids to learning about. Isn't that all we're really looking for at the end of the day? I thought it was really great! And I even learned some new facts! Blood makes up 10% of your body weight?! I had no idea! And I love that she used vampires to teach kids about blood! It was so clever!

ARC audiobook review: “Blood! Not Just a Vampire Drink” is a fun way for young children to learn about the fascinating circulatory system. Count the vampire enters a smoothie shop hoping for a warm tasty treat or blood. A vegetarian vampire tries to talk count into a smoothie while explaining everything about blood and how important it is to humans. This book is full of facts like animals that have blood that is not red, everything in our blood, blood types, how much blood is in our bodies, and how fast our hearts beat. I love that the book brings up donating blood a few times. At the end of the book we find out if Count gets a smoothie or goes off to find some blood.

I gave the audiobook 4 stars instead of 5 because it refers to some images from the picture book that obviously cannot be seen.

Thanks MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for the advance copy.

The Count walks into a smoothie shop hoping for a tall glass of fresh blood, but instead, he's met with a ton of cool facts about the human body and its systems. Will this vampire ever get a refreshing drink?

This quirky little book is a fun introduction to the vascular system. There were a few places where the audio book failed, as it kept referring to illustrations that obviously aren't available in the audio format, but it was still really fun to listen to. I'll definitely be using it in my classroom when we study the human body!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Audiobook received for free through NetGalley

It was a cute and great book and very informative. Assume it would be better as a written book with accompanying images rather than just audio. My eight year old listened all the way through and says she enjoyed it while my six year old wandered away.

Really great informational book! There is some disconnect when the book isn't directly in front of you while listening to the audio.

A cute way to teach kids about blood and its ingredients and how it works!

My kids listened to this audiobook and loved learning new facts. Some of the favorite facts were about the different colors of blood that some animals have besides red.

The Count wanting blood instead of smoothies was a fun little comedic relief in breaking up the "blood facts."

We enjoyed the audiobook version, but definitely would have liked the pictures along with it. The best part was that my kids learned a lot even just listening.

Thank you to MacMillan Audio and Netgalley for providing a copy of this Audiobook for my honest review.

I'm **SO EXCITED** for this. I requested some kids books to review with my 7-year-old. He's a very advanced reader and wanted to get in on this review game. So when We review kids books There will be my (the mom) review and J-Rotty (the kid's review) and unless his star rating is egregious. I will likely defer to his rating!!

[J-Rotty Review] I didn't really like how there was so much talk about bodies. I didn't expect him to like the chocolate milk shake. I thought that was hilarious. I would rate it 4 stars.

[Mom Review] We reviewed this with the audiobook. My husband is a nurse, and we're very open about the body and blood, but without the book to go along with the audio portion, there were a lot of part to this book that were hard to follow. I don't think it was too much or an 'over share'. But without the book, the audiobook was a bit pointless.

It was a great way to go over why we give blood. why we have blood. what are veins are for, etc. That part was lovely.

Thank you, Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, & Macmillan Young Listeners for the arc copy of this book
thank you, Stacy McAnulty for this educational and hilarious book
Thank you, Gary Tiedemann for the hilarious narration!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio, Macmillan Young Listeners for the audio version of this book. To be honest we didn't read the blurb about the book when we requested to listen to it. My daughters (6 and 12) both really loved the cover. I am so thrilled we were able to listen to this book! It is a science book! The author took a subject that can be hard to digest and made it a fun book! Her analogies to make the information be retained was amazing! This will be a audiobook I will def buy a physical copy of!

As someone without kids but loves vampires and oddly collects vampire kids books this one was informative and adorable. I had the chance to listen to the audiobook and it was delightful in the voices while still giving interesting facts about the human body especially about blood. This was not done in a horrific or graphic way but every gently through the narration and characters. Only draw back of the audiobook is that you can’t see the illustrations to which a shirt is mentioned which I’m assuming something was possibly written on it but isn’t not mentioned other than the gifting of the shirt with no further details. So this would probably be better suited after having read the book or accompanied together. All in all a very good way to introduce kids to something natural occurring in their body even if it’s just blood.

This book was so cute!! It was very informative while still being interesting. I really liked the sound effects in the audiobook as well.. This book gives a great description of what blood is/does in the body. I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you to Henry Holt, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

As an early elementary educator and mom I loved this book. I do think it would be amazing to pair the audiobook with a paper book for the illustrations for our early readers to follow along, have more of a mental images of the capillaries, veins, etc. and have help reading the harder words.

The production of the audiobook was well-done. It was entertaining with the music and the different voices. My own children love listening to these entertaining audio stories at bedtime.

Thank you, again, for sharing this with me! I will definitely be sharing with my third grade colleagues for their units on the body and body systems. ❤️
