A good read, hard to put down and thrilling. Keeps you guessing right until the end. Really enjoyed it and would love to read more from the author.

Claire Allan writes great page-turners and this one does not disappoint and gripped me from the beginning. I'm a fan of Claire's books and yet again this premise was a great, a true crime documentary maker trying to crack the case of a child who vanished seven years ago while Nora, (the mother) desperately tries to remember what happened in the woods the day her daughter disappeared. The story hooks you in from the beginning and the pace keeps you wanting just one more chapter. The story was intriguing and believable and characters well-written. Any fans of true crime documentaries will love how the story unfolds. While I felt the ending was a little rushed the end resolution was very smartly executed. I raced through this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre of books.

This is a fast paced gripping mystery. I enjoyed the true crime aspect to the plot. It has plenty of twists and turns. The writing was fantastic. I did guess the ending though.

This heart-stopping narrative immersed me in a world of uncertainty and fear, where the characters' quest for answers had me gripping the book with white knuckles.

First and foremost, the pacing of this book was incredible! I always struggle to find stories that balance the line between not-boring and not-rushed but this story definitely didn't disappoint! There's a slow and steady build up to the main revelation, but at no point was I wishing the pace would pick up because the characters were complex and interesting and kept me engaged with the story. The blend between social criticism and the fictional story was also managed incredibly well, and I'm super glad to have read it!

Nora's daughter Daisy disappeared seven years ago whilst they were out walking in the woods. Nora cannot remember what happened that day. She is now remarried and has a son Luca but she has never forgotten about Daisy.

Izzy a journalist approaches Nora regarding a true crime documentary she is working on, she feels this may reveal what happened to Daisy.

A great addictive read that kept me guessing until the end.

I'm a big fan of Claire Allan books and 'In the Dark' did not disappoint.

Daisy Logue disappared 7 years ago after a routine walk in the wood with her mother Nora. Fastforward 7 years later and Nora has no memory of what happened that day, what happened to Daisy and even if she had a part to play in Daisy's disapperance. Unfortunately for her she has been deemed guilty after trial by social media on vigilante forums.

Since Daisy's disappearance Nora has lead a very sheltered life with her new husband and her infant son Luca. However, all that changes when documentary maker Izzy contacts Nora in hope of exploring Nora's side of the story.

As Nora and Izzy explore the past a sinister group named The Four start to threaten Nora and her new family. Could they have something to do with Daisy's disappearance?

This really is a thrilling read and it kept me guessing right up to the end.

This was a fascinating, very easy to read, thriller which kept me turning the pages until the early hours and the last page had been read!
I found that for most of the book it was quite moderately paced with events happening that caused concern but the characters weren't rushing from one incident into the next at breakneck speed or they weren't until the last part anyway. Then it was as if all hell had broken loose with revelations coming from every direction and the truth finally coming out which had been well plotted and held a few twists that I hadn't picked up on!
This was a beautifully scripted story which showed the truths to us subtly all the way through with a little held in reserve to surprise and delight with the twists at the end. It was my first by this author but it wont be my last as I really enjoyed the experience.

I do love a Claire Allan book and this one didn’t disappoint. 7 years ago little Daisy went missing. You can’t help but feel heartbroken for her mum poor Nora who was there at the time but her memory has failed to remember that fateful day.
In comes Izzy wishing to film a documentary and gaining lots of interest from an online forum of amateur detectives.
My heart broke for poor Nora but the story line has so many twists and turns I could not work out what and why Daisy had disappeared. Nora has tried to move on but her new family are now also being threatened.
I could not put this book down. Excellent.

This is absolutely my kind of bedtime read. I don't sleep well and it was definitely a good choice as far as being intriguing. It caught my attention from the very first chapter. It's every mother's nightmare. There were so many thrills and chills that I couldn't put it down. This story is a must read!

I’m a big fan of Claire Allan. She’s has the ability to carefully lead the reader slowly into the story and then the next thing you know, gears change and you have to keep reading as you hurtle towards the ending. In the Dark was no exception. I absolutely loved how she also slowly weaves in social commentary about women, violence against women, podcasts and the internet peanut gallery, and our own interest in true crime. I bought this book as I loved it that much.

I am a Claire Allan fan. I was so excited to read her new crime novel “in the Dark”. In typical Claire Allan fashion, this is unputdownable. We follow Nora who is going through the worst possible thing any mother could go through, her child is missing. We go on a rollercoaster to find out what happened and who has her daughter Daisy. I have to say that I thought I had it sussed many times, then along came twist after twist after twist! It’s a great read and a great mystery there’s no doubt. However, one of my least favourite tropes is that of the unreliable narrator. And just when the narrator becomes clear something happens that makes her an unreliable narrator again. This is my bug bear but not a criticism of the book itself. There was one incident with Izzy the documentary maker, who is following Nora and uncovering her story, and Tom, who is filming the documentary with Izzy, that really didn’t need to happen and that seemed completely out of character and unnecessary for the storyline. However I love that Claire Allan’s books take place in Derry and I recommend this book to all who need a good engrossing read.

I found this really slow going at the start but I persevered and it pulled me in much more from about half way. I liked both female MC and was guessing who could have been involved. The ending (or what had happened after that day in the woods I guess) made me feel quite uncomfortable. I’m not sure how I feel now I’ve finished it. I keep thinking how I would feel in Nora’s situation.

This was my first Claire Allan book but it certainly will not be my last. I was engrossed from start to finish.

This was the first book I had read by Claire Allen. I found it quite hard to get into at the beginning. It seemed slow and lacked enough pace. However I returned to reading it after a break and began to be drawn in. Nora is the main character and becomes involved in a documentary focussing on the earlier disappearance of her first born child Daisy.
Nora has been the target of abuse since the child disappeared and much of the public feel she was to blame and must have been involved. As a reader I began to feel she must have been involved in a cover up too and Allen creates this air of mistrust very cleverly.
The story is full of twists and turns but I did begin to feel like I had the plot worked out before all was revealed which took the edge off my enjoyment for the closing chapters.
All in all not a bad read and I would read more by this author.
