Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

REPLACE ME AS I AM OLD is a self-help book that helps readers struggling with bad habits to replace them with more rewarding habits. I found this book to be helpful with realistic suggestions to replace old habits. I didn’t find all the tools really relatable, but for the most part this is a book that could help anyone looking to replace habits.

I’m always looking for books about how to change habits, and was intrigued by the title of this book.

Sadly, I was not intrigued by the actual substance. There is absolutely nothing new or novel in this book. It merely recapitulates what can be found in any basic book about creating good habits that will help you live your life without feeling in constant internal disarray.

I received this book as an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley.

As a therapist I found this really helpful. It explains very well how habits are formed and changes that we can make so we don't get stuck in a rut. It is very motivational and a good starting point if you are an addict in any way.
A lot of it is common sense but it;s good to put the ideas into words and remind us what we should be doing. Its a quick read but definitely a good sharp nudge to making subconscious changes.

I think we’re all guilty of bad habits, so this is a must for everyone. Short book but does the trick.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

This book is full of wonderful advice and a great starting point. If you've read several self-help books and habit-forming books, this is not for you. This is a beginner book, one that will steer you to the right path and guide you in decisions but it only scratches the surface. There are times in this book where it seems that English is not Dr. Hudson's first language. Don't let that distract you from the message. He does lay out some clear common-sense ideas. Thank you to Dr. Hudson, BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the ARC.

I really liked the humility and humor in this. I’ve always been aware of the phrase old habits die hard and I’ve always thought it to be true. Replace me I am Old helped me realize that some things CAN change but you just have to get to the root of why they occur.

Replace me I am Old by Dr. Dan S. Hudson Yes, I am older and yes, I have bad (lazy) habits that if they replaced would make life easier and more enjoyable. The author provides Common Sense advice and realistic tool and methods to overcome these old bad habits. A very useful self help book, one that I believe will work for me. Am starting with procrastination!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

This was a bit of an odd book. I found myself wondering a couple of times if it was written by a bot. There's just something a little bit off about the way it's written. The advice is a compilation of all the standard self help advice and it's written in a sort of long, meandering commentary, like someone who likes to talk and considers himself very wise just sat down with a transcribing app. While I'm sure others will find good stuff in here, it felt too basic and long-winded for me. As such, I won't be publishing a public review.

The cover and title of this book really appealed to me. Essentially, this book is about forming good habits and sticking to them. It looks at why they're important, why they work, and why negativity and your old habits may be so bad for you.

There are some useful points to think about in here. Spend time doing what you love. Enjoy nature. Appreciate what you have. Work on your mindset. But as with any lifestyle advice book, there will be elements that don't work for you personally and that was true for me too. I like the advice about not worrying, but I don't think every problem has a solution. I agree with working on things you love, but not everyone can profit from the things they love. I agree that not everyone born with wealth goes on to live in wealth, but I do not think everyone can succeed if they have the right mindset. And if they invest their money! That's easy to say from a position of privilege, but much harder if you're struggling simply to get by.

That's okay though - I don't have to love everything in a non-fiction book as long as I find something of value. But I didn't find anything outstanding (for me as an individual). No particular message I'm going to carry away. And I read a review copy but I did think the text needed quite a bit more editing.

Some people will fall in love with the advice on offer here - it just wasn't for me.

A very nice book about habits. It is not a collection of clinical research or stories of great personalities. It is a revisit to various habits that we do daily. Anxiety. Procrastination. Negative thoughts. Envy. It discusses tricks and methods to control these habits. How can we develop new habits while reducing bad ones. A useful book. Written in simple and informative language.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC. This was a short but sweet book, I really enjoyed the passages on compound habits and replacing old habits with new ones. Overall, a quick read and more philosophical than concrete, but inspiring and motivating to replace the old with the new.

While the information included isn’t novel enough to give you any “a-ha” moments, this IS an excellent collection of well-written good sense advice. For example, the lost skill of accepting responsibility for your actions is always your best way forward. Reading this gave me renewed energy to change some habits, and do what I can to make life better. Overall this is a quick, positive, and helpful read.

My thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for access to a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I got more than I expected from this book. Some days I do feel like the title. But, after many self -help books as this one, I am learning to just STOP all the nonsense about the getting older and just LIVE.

Whilst the book does reiterate what a lot of other self help books suggest, you can’t get away from the fact that most of what is written is just plain common sense, a thing that is rare to find these days

If you read self-help books, this book will likely not tell you anything that you haven't heard before.

This book is a pretty quick read on replacing old habits with new habits. It's nothing outstanding, but it gets the message across quite easily. It does oversimplify some aspects of habit changing, such as basically telling the reader 'stop worrying' as if that is a straightforward thing. It also includes several claims that have been debunked as myths, such as only needing 22 days to build a habit, when for most people it takes much longer.

A note that may likely have been fixed in the published version: This book had a link at the end of it. It says that you can follow the link to sign up for a mailing list and get a free 'habit forming journal,' but the link does not work.

I wanted to read this book, as I personally struggle with bad habits and I wanted to see how Dr. Dan S. Hudson would address them in this book. I loved the chapter about negative self-talk, as that is something I've always struggled with. It was so interesting to see how Dr. Dan S. Hudson described our internal negativity and how we develop it, as it is a product of year's worth of listening to negative opinions from the people around us. I had never really thought of it that way, but this book truly opened my eyes to not only that, but also a couple other things. I also loved what Dr. Dan S. Hudson had to say about responsibility. A highlight for me, was his revelation that the first step to improving things in your life is to accept responsibility, as it's the truth and sometimes we don't always want to see it that way. Overall, I really liked this book and it's definitely an eye-opener for sure! Dr. Dan S. Hudson has such an easy way of explaining things that may seem simple, but are inherently complicated. I absolutely recommend this one!

There were bits of this I found really useful, and bits that I found quite contradictory. Let's start with the positives:
- There was a lot of interesting tidbits about self-talk, where worries come from, and goal-setting,
- The explanations are scientific without being condescending or going over the reader's head,
- I enjoyed the focuses on nature, as well as the importance of passion.

However:
- There were elements of "hustle culture" in the book that seemed contradictory to the importance of nature and passion "whatever your interest is, find out how to you can start to earn money from it".
- It seems to lose a little bit of structure further into the book (around chapter six) and there are moments where arguments seem to be more streams of thought than chapters - which is fine, it's just a change in structure from the rest of the book.

My final point would be that it may have just been my epub copy, but again, from around chapter six it needs a glance over, with random capital letters in titles, neckless instead of necklace etc.
