The second book in Asher’s Supernatural Singles series is enjoyable and not much more than that. Don’t get me wrong, I did like this book but after the introduction to such an interesting world with strong characters in the first one I couldn’t help but feel as though something was missing.

The pacing was inconsistent at times which kept me from being fully immersed in the story but that didn’t keep me from wanting more of Damian and Rose. The use of Grumpy x Sunshine and Close Proximity made for some good ol’ fashioned romcom fun.

While I liked Not the Witch You Wed more than Not Your Ex’s Hexes, I’m still looking forward to more book in the Supernatural Singles universe. I recommend this series for anyone who wants a fun, lighthearted, witchy romcom.

I loved reading about the 2nd Maxwell sister Rose. I love her journey to understanding who she is other than prima apparent.

I loved Damian and Roses chemistry in this. Their push and pull relationship was spicy and loved their interactions with each other.

I only have one bad thing to say about this. With this whole book premise with Damian having a soul hex, it is why he didn’t want a real relationship with Rose. But in the end, when the soul hex was dealt with. It was rushed and how it was dealt with didn’t make sense to how they were describing how bad it was. So, it was slightly disappointing in my opinion.

Not the witch you Wed left us with Rose stepping down as Prima Apparent, and Violet taking her place.

After spending her whole life preparing for the role as Prima, Rose finds herself struggling with what to do next. After a [completely out of character for the former prima apparent] one night stand, she never expected to see Damian again. But a situation lands her in community service at his Animal Sanctuary.

Damian Adams is the veterinarian for a local animal sanctuary. He's also a demon that Rose has a hard time resisting.

I'll be honest, this one started out pretty slow for me. BUT I ended up loving it!

The banter between Rose + Damian was so good, their chemistry was off the charts! Rose was so witty and had the best snappy comebacks. Damian was all grumpy and broody. Except he actually wasn't because .... He's a freaking vet. A big grumpy hot man who loves animals 😭🙌🏻 YES PLEASE. Their nicknames for eachother... "Little Witch" + "Doc" STOPPPP.

I loved the conflict of the story! It was actually kind of fun 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️
And that grand gesture so 🤌🤌

OVERALL, I really enjoyed this book! And I cannot wait to read Olives story. Especially after seeing a whole different side to her in this book!!

Thank you, April Asher + St. Martins Press for my gifted ARC, all thoughts are my own.

Holy Hex! I needed a paranormal rom-com fix and this one provided that and more. The grumpy/sunshine vibe is sexy and strong and I was laughing throughout the whole book at the hilarious antics. Yet another new favorite author to add to my list.

Rose Maxwell has handed over the reins of Prima Apparent to her triplet sister, Violet who came into her magic late in the game at the ripe old age of thirty-two. This leaves Rose feeling lost and unsure of where her future leads. So with time on her hands, she goes on a horse-saving mission that lands her in jail and community service, she participates in a no-pants subway event, and tries her hand at bounty-hunting nasty supernaturals. What do all these have in common? They involve the hot sexy half-demon veterinarian Damian Adams, aka Dr. McGrumpy Pants. The man was an unforgettable one-night stand who happens to be Rose’s appointed boss at his animal sanctuary and her self-proclaimed protector from nefarious supernaturals and Rose’s own bad choices.

There’s nothing more satisfying than watching the sexy, sexy grumpilicious demon doctor fall for a fearless and confident witch who is looking for her thing in life. However, teenager Damian had a witch hex placed on him by his angry witch girlfriend which means he cannot fall in love with anyone or he will lose his soul. Avoiding relationships most of his life with no repeats, he cannot risk his soul. Damian’s broodiness is warranted due to the only time he got his father’s approval was when Damian embraced his dark side becoming a bounty hunter known throughout the supernatural realm as The Hunter. But he’s put those days behind him after his friend Miguel saved him from giving in to his demon side completely. Rose is staying single until she can change her “sucktastic luck”, including a narcissistic ex-fiance tiger shifter, and figure out her life. All her life she’s been trained to be the Prima Apparent and when that was passed along to her sister and rightful holder, she felt relief as well as regret at missing out on a normal life. So out with the old predictable and boring Rose, and in with the sexy and free Rose. Neither Damian nor Rose wants a long-term relationship, therefore they settle for FB status (that’s fuck buddy for those not in the know). Yeah, we all know how that’s gonna turn out. Relationships with no strings attached are even better when they fall head over heels in love.

Let’s not forget the fantastic group of supporting characters including Rose’s ride-or-die sisters, Violet and Olive, her strong and feisty Granny Edie, and her mouthy demon succubus friend Harper. Damian’s support team includes his friend and mentor Miguel and his friends Lincoln (Violet’s fiance and North American Pack Alpha), Adrian the lion shifter, and “Guardian Angel extraordinaire” Bax. And though his sophisticated and self-serving demon brother Julius doesn’t seem supportive at first, he does come around. I can’t wait to read their stories.

From their first meet sex to the memorable Cusack grand gesture, I devoured this delightful story about starting over and finding your niche in life all on your own. I started with book 2 of the Supernatural Singles series which is fine as a standalone, but I’m definitely going back to read Vi’s and Linc’s story and I plan to keep tabs for stories to come.

Thank you to Ms. Asher for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

This was a fun mix of supernatural and real world. There was the heroic, tortured demon who refuses to fall in love. That is, until he meets strong willed little witch. The progression of their relationship was so sweet and swoony! I loved that it wasn't a quick fix. The witch that hexed him couldn't. come in and undo what she did. It was an internal thing that he had to find out on his own. And who doesn't love a guy who loves and takes care of animals. It was all around so GOOD!

This book was amazing and the perfect sequel. I read it during spooky season and I loved it so much.

Not Your Ex's Hexes is a solid sequel in the Supernatural Singles series. I truly enjoyed getting to see Rose find her sense of self after stepping away from the role of Prima for her sister to take over. This is as much a finding yourself novel as it is a romance and I thought the author balanced that pretty well. I really enjoyed Damian and I loved his love of all things animals. He was the perfect compliment to Rose and they had sizzling chemistry!

While this one started out slow, it really picked up and I sped through the second half of the book! Rose is witty AF, which led to absolutely stellar banter with Damian. And allll the fun witchy goodness from the first book carried over to book two - while this is a fun romcom, their magical world is still a huge part of everything that happens!

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the third sister of the triad, Olive, to get her own book!

#NotYourExsHexes:⁣

I was honestly a bit worried for Not Your Ex’s Hexes, as I usually feel like the 2nd book in the series hit a type of sophomore slump. I am here to tell you the 2nd book in the Supernatural Singles series is such a treat, and the books just keep getting better with time.⁣

First off, I really liked Rose as an MC and felt like she was so relatable. She steps down as prima (okay, can’t relate there) but she goes through dead end job to dead end job to really find her “call” or “purpose”. I feel like we all may have had that a time or two, and really liked how we got to understand her frustration and self-doubt. I found myself cheering hard for Rose.⁣

For Damien, I loved we got a good base on his back story. It really helped me fall in love with him and want him for our girl Rose. His hex was very understanding in a magical realm, and I liked how it was introduced. Their banter and chemistry was IT, and it was so refreshing to see that forced proximity put to good use.⁣

Dang, April Asher, what CAN’T you do? Loved this book so much and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Thank you @smpromance for the gifted copy, Not Your Ex’s Hexes is out now!

Not Your Ex’s Hexes
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Format: Kindle eBook
Date Published: 2/7/23
Author: April Asher
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Pages: 343
GR: 4.07

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

My Thoughts: This is the second book in the Supernatural Singles series. I adored the first book and was excited to read this one. We met Rose briefly in the first book where she stepped down from the Supernatural Council. She has had a string of dead end jobs trying to find her thing that makes her happy. She is also does not want a relationship with any man, especially after the Valentino fiasco. After a horse snatching incident going horribly wrong, she is sentenced to volunteer at her one-night stand’s animal sanctuary. Will she find the thing that makes her happy? Can she coexist with Damian?

The story is narrated in dual narration by Rose and Damian, through their POVs. Rose is fierce, independent, and is trying to find what makes her happy. Damien has been deeply hurt, is part demon, career focused, but is kind when you get to know him. It was nice to see updates on the characters from the first book. The characters were well developed with depth, witty banter, amazing chemistry, and brilliant. The author’s writing style was complex, spicy, swoony, magical, and kept me engaged throughout the story.

I absolutely adore Asher’s writing. She blends supernatural and norms so effortlessly. While you do not have to read the first one, I think it would build on the characters. The flow and pace of this story was amazing. I highly recommend picking up this book and the prior one.

✨ April Asher has done it again, and better than before! ✨

Not Your Exes Hexes follows the middle Maxwell triplet witch, Rose, and the oh-so-delicious repercussions of her one-night stand with the half-demon veterinarian, Damian. Asher continues to build upon the Supernatural Singles world she created in Not the Witch You Wed, and we get insight into the background of some of the characters introduced in book one. As much as I enjoyed Violet’s and Linc’s love story in the first book, I fell even harder for Rose and Damian in this one. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a bad boy turned good.

If you love the following tropes and genres, you’ll enjoy this book…
✅ Grumpy/Sunshine
✅ Good Girl/Bad Boy
✅ Bad Boy Turned Good
✅ One-Night Stand Turned More
✅ Plus-Size FMC
✅ Paranormal Romance/Rom-Com

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, highly recommend the series, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!

I would like to thank St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin, NetGalley, and the author for a free eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Rose Maxwell is trying to find herself. Until recently, her life as the Prima Apparent witch was set out for her and with stepping down, she’s at a loss with where she fits in. After getting arrested for trying to rescue a horse from an animal sanctuary, she’s sentenced to community service hours at that same sanctuary and meets half-demon, Damian Adams, the handsome, grumpy vet in charge. The attraction is instant but since they have both have sworn off love at the moment, can they risk a no strings relationship?

I loved this spicy hot, paranormal romance. Not Your Ex’s Hexes is the second installment of this series, and can be read as a standalone, but I think the first book is just as fantastic, so read it first! Rose and Damian’s chemistry’s sparks immediately and never runs cold. And it was great to catch up with Vi and Linc, the couple from the first book. I didn’t want it to end, but at least I have the next book to look forward to now!

Not Your Ex's Hexes follows triplet Rose. A night rescuing "abandoned" horses with her sisters, Violet and Olive, turns into community service at an animal clinic. The demon veterinarian Damian and Rose form a FWB. Damian was cursed with a love hex as a teenager and is afraid to get too close to anyone. Their FWB forms into more when they realize they have feeling for each other.
I enjoyed being back in this setting and visiting old characters as well as the new. They were likeable and entertaining.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Not Your Ex's Hexes follows Not the Witch You Wed in the Supernatural Singles series by April Asher. Book 2's prologue starts in book 1's epilogue so I really wouldn't recommend reading these out of order. There will be spoilers for book 1 below.

----

Not Your Ex's Hexes follows middle sister Rose Maxwell after she has stepped down as Prima Apparent. What she has been training and planning for her whole life didn't end up happening and Rose gives herself time and space to find her next step in life and in love. A misadventure leads her to community service with Damian, a half-Demon Veterinarian with a hex on his heart.

I loved this book. It was a fantastic follow up to Violet's story and the expansion of the world was so much fun. Rose and Damian work so well together, their chemistry is to die for but you also really understand why it takes them as long to get together as it does. They both have issues that they are working through. They are both incredibly strong and stubborn people who know what they want and aren't willing to settle for less.

Tropes: forced proximity, friends with benefits-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine

First of all, I loved the fairy tale-like nods we got in this book. I came for the plus size rep and the magical elements but I fell in love with the trope-filled story. :)

This was honestly such a fast read for me, I loved the grumpy/sunshine trope and had no problem at all staying up late turning the pages to the next bit of banter or spice between these two love interests.

Such a fun read and definitely recommend for any reader looking for body positive fat rep and swoon worthy romance! :)

This one was so much fun! I thought that I had read the first in the Supernatural Singles series but I had not! Despite that it was pretty easy to jump into the supernatural world (I really appreciated the glossary at the back for terms but I found I didn't really need it). I really enjoyed Rose and Damian's story, as they're both headstrong but their chemistry was off the charts.
I absolutely adored their pet names for one another (little witch in particular).

I was a bit confused by the process of the hex, or the history of it, and how it resolved itself. It felt like it went from high stakes to no stakes all of a sudden.

I enjoyed Rose's storyline of finding what she wanted to do with herself, and that she didn't just fall into what Damian or her family wanted for her. She found HER thing.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Not Your Ex's Hexes is a cute, cozy and charming romance that is well worth the read. The characters are adorable and loving,.

Overall rating: 3.5⭐️ (rounded down)

This is book 2 in the Supernatural Singles series. Even though I read the first book I got confused while reading this because I didn’t remember it well enough, so I do recommend reading #1 first. Though there’s a handy glossary at the back that I only found when I was done, it’s quite funny too!

Just like the other book in the series, this is a good intro to paranormal romance. It’s a cute, cheesy, fluffy, funny romance, great for Valentine’s day vibes.

👍
+ I loved our hero Damian the half-demon, a little cinnamon roll with a troubled past. His character arc was really the best one. I loved seeing him slowly let people in and just completely fall for Rose.
+ This is a friends with benefits to love romance, and I really enjoyed that transition in their relationship. They were clearly in denial for a bit, but they both (especially Damian) had reasons for it. They were adorable together throughout, and their chemistry is just 🔥🔥🔥.
+ I love Rose’s family. How close the 3 sisters are, how kickass the grandmother is… They’re just a great family that are always there for each other. I also really liked Damian’s brother and his arc throughout the book, hoping to get more of him in future books!
+ The book partially takes place at an animal sanctuary, I loved all the animals they were caring for and I was just as invested in their story as the MCs.

👎
- I’m getting pretty annoyed with fantasies that try to show the FMC is a strong independent woman by having them be fools. Since when does independence mean completely ignoring reason and experience? I was pretty done with the Hunter storyline for this reason, especially the banter while facing literal mortal danger. 🙄
- Maybe I was being extra dense while reading this book, but I just did not get the ending. Something major basically ended up being no big deal. Hard to say more without spoilers.

Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for the eARC!

I may be in the minority for this one, but I DNF, it just wasn’t a good match for me. I was anticipating more of a cute witchy romance, but was immediately turned off when a tiger shifter was mentioned and just seemed like too many super natural things happening in one space for my liking.

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

This series is *chef’s kiss*
Everything I love inside a paranormal romance with a grumpy sunshine trope! I DO recommend reading Not the With You Wed before this one just so you don’t get anything spoiled. This one takes place not long after and the storyline rolls perfectly. Rose and Damian’s story was so perfect. I am off to buy a physical copy because I need it on my bookshelf! This series is absolutely one of my favorites.

Witchy romance? With a half-demon hot boi?

Look, I'm a simple creature.

To say I devoured this book would be an understatement.

A ONS between out two leads, Rose and Damian, was just the jumping off point for me. I read most of this book with a big ol' grin slapped on my face. And while they were both really endearing and interesting characters, they both had their own flaws and issues, and they had enough chemistry and things in common that I couldn't help but root for them.

Also: if you expect me to not fall in love with someone who gets called "Dr. Broody McGrumpy Pants" then you need to try harder. I love Damian. So. Much.
