Not Your Exes Hexes is the second in a series by April Asher. These can be read standalone though as I requested this one from NetGalley not realizing it was a series and had no issues getting into the story! In fact, I liked it so much I’m going to grabbing the first book to add to my ever growing TBR.
Rose Maxwell is a witch, not just any witch but one that comes from a long line of great witches. In fact, she was training to become the next Prima witch for years until her older sister finally found her magic.
Now that Rose isn’t next in line for the Prima, she’s a bit lost on what she does want to do with her life. Leading a botched animal rescue attempt, Rose gets sentenced to community service at an animal rescue centre run by a very grumpy demon Damian.
Neither Rose or Damian are looking for a long term relationship but their attraction to each other is undeniable. Striking up a deal to enter into a friends with benefits arrangement (no feelings allowed), they think they have both the animal rescue centre and their relationship under control.
This is a great supernatural romance with some spice and a great supporting cast of characters. I’m hooked on the series and will be looking for the other instalment to add to my list. This was a 4 star for me!

Loved the first book in the series and this was excellent as well! Excited to read more from this author in the future!

Not Your Ex’s Hexes
2/5 ⭐️‘s
I don’t think this series is for me, sadly 😭 Since I don’t love DNFing arcs, I did force myself to push through this one, but it was…a journey 🥴
I was actually the most excited for Rose’s story, but something about it just really missed the mark. I had a hard time believing these characters were in there 30’s because so much of the plot and dialogue just seemed kind of immature and awkward 😅
All that being said, I do think there are plenty of people who would really enjoy this series because of the paranormal/fantasy/romance aspects to it, so don’t let my review deter you if that’s your kind of book!
Thank you sm to netgalley for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review <3

This book was incredible! It outperformed its predecessor, which is normally difficult to do. The writing style is fun and kept me interested the whole way through, the characters are well-developed, & the relationships are tangible - not even just the main characters but the whole cast and crew.
A half-demon veterinarian with a heart of gold and bad boy past and a recently deposed Prima whose previously entirely controlled & planned out life is handed back to her walk into a bar....there is no punchline only sparks flying literally everywhere.
This read was genuinely just very fun and very swoony, it knew when to give banter and it knew when to give seriousness. I know this book will be a constant reread for me, it's perfect for spooky season and hits a bunch of trope sweet spots because they were executed so well!
5 stars easily!

This little genre of cute romantic fantasy is one of my favorites, and this series is a pretty good example of why I enjoy the genre.
When I saw that the sequel to Not the Witch You Wed was available on NetGalley, I was pretty excited. I really enjoyed the first book; I thought that Violet was a great character with interesting development and I was excited to see what came next for Rose after dumping the ex that was oddly accurately referred to as Pepe Le Pee Yew.
Let me start by saying, I liked this book less than the first one, but I still liked it. Rose and Damian just didn't grab me the same way that Violet and Lincoln did, but parts of their story were still very fun and interesting, and I was definitely rooting for them and their happily ever after. The setting of the animal sanctuary was something that I found to be a great choice made by the author, because it complemented the magic system and personalities of the characters well.
Speaking of the magic system, I think that the magic in this series is really well created and compelling, and the way that it was further fleshed out in this book was enjoyable and not too over the top. I like the niche genre of magic that is still within the modern world, just with a little magical twist, and this series does that really well.
The spice in this book wasn't the spiciest but was very good for what it was, and the little plot twist towards the end wasn't too shocking but was still very interesting and made me excited to find out how they were going to resolve the issue.
Overall, this book was not as good as the first in the series, but was still an enjoyable read. I'm already excited for the next book in this world!
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

If you’re looking for some paranormal romance in your life, do we have the series for you! Not Your Exes Hexes is the second book in the Supernatural Singles series by April Asher. Definitely read Not the Witch You Wed to get introduced to this supernatural world and the Magical Triad of Violet, Rose & Olive.
Rose is the middle triplet who has just stepped away from her role as the Prima Apparent. She’s a bit lost in what to do with her life now that it isn’t mapped out for her. Damian is a half demon reformed bad boy vet running from his past. They have a hot and steamy one night stand. And like any one night stand they think they would never see each other again. But of course, life doesn’t work that way and after a failed rescue mission, they get thrown together.
Don't let the cover fool you - this was steamy with a capital S! What started off as a temporary fling quickly turned to a forced working environment where they couldn't avoid each other. Once they decided they would dip their toes into a friends with benefits relationship everything got a bit more complicated!
Damian really struggles with his past and is weighed down by a hex and what it means. We loved the different dynamics between siblings. Rose has a supportive and loving relationship with her two sisters while Damian has a combative relationship with his brother because of their difficult upbringing. And we can't forget the Hunter aspect of the story which gave us some Buffy vibes which adds some danger and fun to the book.
We can’t wait to read about Olive and her love life!
What we liked:
▪️Curvy FMC
▪️Forced proximity
▪️Blending of supernaturals and norms (living out in the open)
▪️All the sibling relationships + friendships between different supernaturals
▪️Continuation from Not the Witch You Wed (the ending kicked off this book)
▪️The hex twist
What we didn’t like:
▪️Rose was a bit of a know it all

Damian plus Rose equals steamy magic.
I liked how Damian really got under Rose’s skin and how she went out of her way to bug him.
Their chemistry is palatable and their differences wouldn’t dare keep them apart.
There’s always a way around a hex, especially if the antidote is love.
Dive into this whimsical witchy magical realism read.
I got a good huge laugh out of the glossary at the end.

This series is so fun. I love these characters and the setting. Cannot wait to read the next book. I hope it comes out soon.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing the ARC.
I didn't realize that this book was a sequel when I picked up the ARC. But I read both in one sitting for context purposes. While I would say that this one has enough plot that stands alone, there are enough references to book 1 that it is likely required reading prior to this one.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a trope filled witchy/half demon delight of a book filled with fun banter, a Buffy-esque demon fight, and a one night stand to lovers story that included adopting puppies. It was very sweet to see all the facets of Damian the half demon as he worked through a curse placed on him 18 years ago and to see how the middle Maxwell witch fared after stepping down from a role that she had been working towards her whole life and faced with the prospect of figuring out what she wanted to do with the rest of it.
It was cute, it was sweet. There were a few instances where I felt the language that was used was a bit juvenile, but not enough to detract from the story as a whole. Both this book and the first book are great for fulfilling a witchy contemporary romcom fix.

I love the Maxwell sisters! I went into the first book blind, and loved it. I was so excited to get an ARC of the second book in the series.
So far April Asher’s “Supernatural Singles” books have just enough spice, witty banter, and supernatural fun for me.
This is the grumpy/sunshine trope and I give the spice a moderate level rating. Damien and Rose are awesome together, and I loved the twist at the end.
Can’t wait for the next installment in the series.
Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the advance readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book is well written, and I think that it would make the perfect Halloween or spooky season read. I thought Damian was a great character- I loved the almost grumpy sunshine dynamic that he and Rose had, made perfect by him being a veterinarian. Who doesn't love a half-demon, right? I also loved the sister dynamics in this book. I will admit, I am an idiot and I did not read the first book. When I requested, I didn't realize it was a series, but I am really excited to pick up the first book and read that now. I assume- and hope- that the next book is about Olive.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this book early!
Not the witch you wed was one of my fave witchy romances last year so I was really looking forward to the sequel. The humor and banter between maybe-enemies was excellent and had a nice build to them getting together. I also liked how the author continued some of the storylines from the first book while still making it clear that this book is about Rose. Up until about the 95% mark I was really feeling this. It was cute, spicy, funny, exciting, romantic, action-packed, featured cute animals, and basically anything else I could have put on a wishlist. But then, the author hit two of my biggest DNF-cues: revealing the “big problem” or “villain” and it’s not actually a big deal or they are just misunderstood and there are no real consequences or pay-off for the stress from the rest of the book AND big, public, dramatic gestures (it fees performative and more for the gesture-er to look good to others than to actually express something to their partner. While the gesture was slightly better than it could have been, the anti-climactic resolution of the big problem really threw me and honestly kinda ruined the book for me.
I’m definitely still going to read the next book but I probably won’t be rereading this one.

Fast paced and overall a great book. Read it in one sitting and definitely recommend to others. Funny and kept me entertained

Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martins Press, and St. Martins Griffin for allowing me to read this book!!
Ummmmm barely manage to finish this book. I extremely confused about the world development and felt that the book lagged a little bit. To my defense I did not realized this was the second book in the series so I might have enjoyed it better if I read the first one. I also wished the tension between Rose and Damian was were amped up. Although, that is for sure a me thing because I love enemies to lovers.

Not Your Ex's Hexes charmed me!
I really enjoyed the first book last year so I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second one. It didn't disappoint either.
I loved Rose! She was confidant and empowering herself, and I found that to be inspiring. She was definitely relatable and a lot of fun to read about. Damian is the grumpy half-demon of reader's dreams. Their dynamic and banter made the book for me. I couldn't stop smiling during their interactions.
This is friends with benefits so the steam is there. And I will say I think this one is steamier than Not The Witch You Wed. The angst also added to the steam.
A perfectly charming paranormal romcom!
For readers who enjoy: romcoms, comedy, friends with benefits, friends to lovers, grumpy x sunshine trope, paranormal/urban fantasy romance, witches, family drama, and curvy/plus size heroine rep.

First, a big thank you to NetGalley and April Asher for the e-arc of Not Your Ex's Hexes, the second book about the Maxwell sisters! I love a good witchy romance book, and throw in a half-demon and this book delivers.
After Rosie is free from marrying Pepé Le Pee-Yew and is no longer Prima Apparent (thanks to her eldest triplet's magic finally making an appearance) Rose is free to find out who she is and what she wants to do. Except she has no clue what that is because she's been training to be the next Prima all her 30-something years. Rose shakes things up by trying to be a little bit reckless, which just leads her having to complete community service hours at the local animal rescue/vet hospital.
Enter the vet she has to work with: half-demon reformed bad-boy Damian. And the only Supernatural Rose has ever had a one-night stand with. Their mutual attraction has them agreeing to a friends with benefits agreement with one condition: No strings, no feelings, no actual relationship. (But come on, when has that ever really worked?)
Rose starts to learn more about herself; what she likes to do and fulfills her. But also that she might be falling for a certain half-demon. Damian gets a closer look at the life he left ages ago, and he realizes that if he really loves Rose he might need to let her go or else he'll lose everything.
Not Your Ex's Hexes is full of witty remarks and banter. Sometimes it felt like too much (the endearment "little witch" became a "little much") and forced teasing instead of deeper conversations. This book is dual POV, which is almost as necessary to me in a romance book as coffee is to my morning routine. I loved reading Damian's view and how he struggled with his feelings for Rose, the commitments to his animals, and then also making sure he wasn't going to fall under the hex. Besides the lack of deeper conversation, my only other issue with the book was the ending. I feel like there was so much buildup the whole time that Damian couldn't fall in love, and then finding the solution wasn't terribly exciting for me. Like it didn't give me butterflies. The spicy scenes DID give me the spicy butterflies though, so mission accomplished there! I still 100% recommend giving this book a read, especially if you like witchy romances and the first book, Not the Witch You Wed!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so my expectations for book 2 were pretty high. They were absolutely met and then some. Rose and Damian were so adorable, they had such wonderful banter. I went from laughing to swooning to fanning my face with each conversation. The side characters in this series are great - Bax and Olive better be getting a book next, because that tension!
I loved the setting of this one, most of it taking place at Damian's animal sanctuary. I'd like my own Jasper, thank you very much.

When Rose winds up doing community service at an animal sanctuary; she goes toe to toe with the half-demon veterinarian she previously had a romp with. Sparks fly, and while discovering herself and what she wants to do after stepping down as prima apparent; Rose and her vet can't resist each other even at the cost of a hex.
I enjoyed this book even more than the first, Rose and her family are slowly growing on me more and more; however, the writing and plot struggled to keep my attention. The book itself and characters are well-written but the humor and jokes often felt forced and unnecessary.
-I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review-

Not Your Ex's Hexes had the potential to be a super fun paranormal romance. The world is intriguing, the characters had promise, and there were some plot threads that could have brought both tension and adventure. And to be clear, this book wasn't an unenjoyable reading experience. It just never quite managed to figure out what kind of book it wanted to be.
Rose and Damian are both a little lost in life. Rose has walked away from the path she spent her whole life training for and Damian is caught between his human self and his inner demon (literally). They hook up at a party, expecting to never see each other again. But circumstances throw them together repeatedly, and it becomes harder and harder to deny that there's something between them.
I'm not sure if it was the dialogue or the storytelling, but Rose and Damian never totally clicked for me as a couple. Possibly because they never fully clicked as individual characters. They both felt a little one-note; Rose in particular seemed as aimless as her quest for "her thing."
The story, too, wandered a bit too much. I could never quite figure out what the most important bits were. The animal rescue? The hunting? I didn't know what I was supposed to root for as Rose's path, and equally didn't know if I was supposed to cheer for Damian embracing his demon side or worry about it. And the twist regarding his ex's hex on him was easy to call about a mile away, with the execution ultimately feeling rushed and clunky.
Ultimately, I just found myself wishing this book had been a little tighter and found its path just a little bit more clearly.
3.25/5

What do you get when you mix a half demon veterinarian with a witch at an animal sanctuary, a lot of drama (with cuddly animal breaks of course) and a steamy romance.
I really liked Damien in this book. He was so conflicted due to the hex on his heart and not wanting his demon side to pull him back into his bad boy hunting ways. All in all he really had a big heart (for the animals and Rose) under the grumpy yet sexy exterior.
A lot of this book was Rose trying to find her thing, but I wanted a bit more magic and typical witchy things from her. It seems like the magic only came about during the hunting portions for the most part.
I've liked both books do far and enjoyed familiar characters from the first book in this book. I think the set-up is there for Olive, I hope we see more of her and Bax in the next book!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
