I ended up skipping through most of this after DNFing at about 14% after the line "She could smell the raw egg even though it had no smell." Eh? I'm not sure if something was lost in translation as I believe this was originally written in Croatian, but the little I did read was full of grammatical errors, spelling errors and really needed better editing. I struggled to get into the plot and the characters were all so undeveloped and really unlikeable the more I skimmed over. I'm sorry as I hate being so negative about someone's hard work but with a lot more editing I think this would be a much better book.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I normally don’t read books like this one but I was trying to get out of my comfort zone and boy this book is creepy.

It is a good book don’t get me wrong. Is just not what I prefer to read but if you’re a fan of horror or creepy stuff you’ll definitely love this one.

The story was really good and although I don’t like what was going on. I couldn’t stop reading about the girls

Although what seemed to be an interesting concept, unfortunately, I did not enjoy the book on this occasion. It started off very confusing, and the writing became disjointed .The book's pace was not consistent throughout, and I felt it had the potential for more. It isn't personally to my tastes but may be to someone else.

This is a story which was aimed at a different kind of reader.
For a long time I was expecting the House of Durga to be about a covent and the three girls to lesen about magic. This is not what I got.
What I got was the story of three deeply damaged lives and psychopathic tendencies, all wrapped up in a luring horror setting. For the longedt time I did not know in which direction the book wanted to take me and when I finally did, I did not really care for it.
All of the characters were so unlikable which comes from both their willing acceptance of violence and their own missery as well as we do not see much of their insides to connect with them.
The flashbacks also felt rather forced and the story not really carved out.

As a non-native speaker I also strughled quite a bit with the grammar errors throughout the book. Here some more editing is strongly recommended.

I was excited to read this, as it seemed like something different and the premise intrigued me.

I appreciate this is a translated novel, and not the final version of the novel, but it was hard to read as there were many grammar and other errors all throughout the book.

The story itself wasn’t as well constructed as I’d hoped for. There were glaring plot holes, undeveloped characters, and things seemed rushed and thrown together in a haste to finish. This could have been an amazing novel, but unfortunately, it didn’t work for me. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for a chance to read and review this book.

House of Durga by Jelena Hrvoj.
House of Durga is not just an escape from the cruel reality.
Nor is it a place where it all starts and ends.
The sisterhood of the House of Durga is far more than that.
Their beginning, short existence, and end.
That summer, the life of young Pixela Omnia changed forever. From her parents' divorce, moving to the suburbs, and meeting two girls who will become her only support, but also her ruin. Hidden from the world and problems, in the heart of an abandoned amusement park, three young girls Billianet, Pixela, and Kaliopa form the sisterhood of Durga and begin to weave a network of crimes.
Twenty years later, now an adult and successful woman, Pixela can no longer bear the burden of remorse, and the tangle of unsolved murders will finally unfold in front of the public.
Really creepy and dark read. Loved it. Not what I expected. Eerie. 5*.

This story follows three friends who had committed crimes when they were young all in the name of Durga. They have been getting away with what they had done but that has also taken a huge toll on their friendship. They swore to be in the House of Durga forever but what happened changed Pixela’s mind. Fast forward to their adulthood, Pixela had grown up to be a successful woman. She desperately tries to leave her past behind and forget what happened but alas, things are never as easy as it seems. The past is catching up to her and Pixela needs to find a way to get rid of Durga forever…

I feel this story had the potential to be a wonderful thriller based on its disturbing plot but I am just not feeling the story. It could be because there were a lot of moments that were lost in translation but there seems to be parts missing and the story just doesn’t seem to flow well. This was definitely dark and creepy and also deeply disturbing considering what these girls were capable of but unfortunately, this story wasn’t for me.

Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the arc.

I’m not sure if something was lost in translation, but the book needs some serious editing for grammatical and spelling errors. There were so many that it distracted from what was otherwise an interesting and seriously creepy story.

I don’t like to dnf, particularly when a review has been promised…so I persevered, but this was a tough slog. I get it that this is a translation (definitely something lost, as a result) and an uncorrected proof. But this was a poor story, made excruciating by multitudes of spelling mistakes , grammar errors, and general misuse and abuse of vocabulary. Note to publisher: Find a translator with at least a basic grasp of the English language before releasing a copy for review.

A suspenseful thriller about three young friends who committed crimes in their youth. Together they form a small group that call themselves the House of Durga. They go on a crime spree and go unnoticed as suspects. Pixela is on of the girls who has grown up to become successful. She tried to leave her past behind her and living her new life. But, the past has a way of coming back and haunting her. A wonderfully written story, plot and characters.

A strange creepy cruel book. I can't really decide whether I like it or not but was quite an experience to read. Would I read a another book by this author ? Definitely - just for the experience of something completely different.

I didn't know what to expect from this book but I definitely enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. It was creepy and dark with an eerie atmosphere that kept me gripped all the way through and I didn't want to put it down.
Just on a side not the book does need heavy editing as there are a lot of grammatical and spelling errors bbut I still really enjoyed it.

A twisted tale of baby psychopaths.

Needs a ton of editing and grammar correction. And how come the author can’t spell the word ‘deaf’? There were at least 10 grammatical errors in the first 1% of the book.

I would have appreciated elaboration at the end when they go into Billy’s house instead of it just being ‘this is what they found in Billy’s freezer’ - show, don’t tell.

I apologize but the language barrier or the translation - I am not sure which - prevents me from reading past the first few chapters.
