I'd seen some good reviews and I'm always keen to read a debut so was curious to try this.

A happy marriage, with children, torn apart by infidelity. Wife Cass is furious with unfaithful Ethan, and the younger woman keeps taunting Cass and making demands on Ethan, she won't take no for an answer.

I quite like the writing, and the chapters are told from the perspectives of Ethan, Cass and Alice, Cass's uptight and ultra-professional PA.

There are dark secrets to be uncovered. It wasn't especially original but just about held my attention. It didn't help that I've very recently read another cheating partner exposed novel which did everything better, characters, plotting, twists and originality.

OK, but nothing that really stood out.

This twisty domestic thriller explores secrets, identity, and the dark side of relationships with a powerful voice and a fresh perspective. Marie Still’s writing simmers with tension and raw emotion as she weaves multiple narrators with finesse and slowly reveals their layers of inner demons. Cass is a complex, fleshed out protagonist whose pain and motivation are palpable, and the detailed workings of her inner mind pulled me right in. Even while the story delves deep into each character’s thoughts, discoveries still lurk around every corner, and a mystery keeps the reader turning the pages until the end. I loved this novel, not only for these suspenseful elements, but for how it explores the human psyche and all its flaws. Highly recommended for readers who love thrillers of the psychological variety.

Wow! This book is ultra tense, gripping page turner! It starts fast, tension gets higher at each chapter, fast pacing, heart pounding tennis match between female characters who are on the verge of breakdown makes you nervous! All of the main characters are unreliable, keeping big secrets, hiding dangerous motives that push them to the point of no return!

I honestly say I wanted to slap mistress Emma and cheating scumbag husband Ethan million times! I also wished there would be Emma’s POV, too so I could decide she was doing things because she was manipulative, cringy woman or she was just pathetic!

Here’s the recap: Cass, 40, having a dream life: successful career, 19 years of marriage with her love of her life and two beautiful kids. But her life completely changed when she gets email from her husband’s mistress. She sends intimate photos proving their relationship and writes her husband loves her and he didn’t divorce Cass just because of kids! So you can imagine how Cass feels after reading this email: she’s seeing red, dying to find the identity of the woman and make both of them pay what they’ve done!
When she finds the identity of the woman, she’s getting more frustrated because she was working for her and all the crew of the company knows the situation!

The book started so strong. Cass’ POV was so realistic. She was fuming and feeling humiliated, seeing people talking behind her back, giving her pitying looks. She wanted to save her marriage she’s worked for her because she was still in love with her scumbag husband.

Ethan’s POV made me angrier because he kept lying to his wife, still seeing the other woman, keeping dirtier secrets.

There’s also Cass’ 45 years, creepy assistant Alice’s POV : she was absolutely obsessed with Cass, knowing things more about her life, spying on her each move like a hawk.

Second half of the book gets a little repetitive. Cass keeps getting threatening text messages, things get escalated between her and dear mistress and finally mistress gets lost, Cass becomes prime suspect!

The big twist can be foreseeable but it was still disturbing. I wish Cass may have kicked Ethan out of her life at the beginning but if she has done that, we wouldn’t have read this extra heart pounding, excited psychological thriller!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Rising Action Publishing Co. for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.
