Book: “Lose Weight Get Toned!, 15 Minutes Daily Strength Training for Slim & Tightened Body”, Jannah Adams, Books Go Social, 2022

Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

I would like to start off by talking about the author, Jannah Adams and her credentials. She is a dietitian and fitness educator. She has written a book about strength training. She goes into what it is and how it differs from other forms of exercise. She reviews the benefits of strength training for your body.

Jannah reviews some of the safety aspects as the focus of this book are newbies to weightlifting or strength lifting. She distinguishes between the two areas, but personally, I see them as being the one and the same thing. I suppose it depends on what you are focussing on when initially exercising with weights.

The book does show some pictures of the various lifts. I, however, do have to critique this area because, if it were my book, I would have hired a photographer to do actual poses from initial, middle and final movements instead of picking pictures off of the internet.

Finally, she talks about what to eat while strength training.

A review of Jannah's profile says she has helped many people with strength training to lose weight and particularly women.

Overall, I found the book a good start for someone who does not know their way around a gym. Aside from me preferring better photos, I found it disjointed from a writing point of view. I felt as if snippets of information were taken from various internet sources and placed together. I felt from a writing point of view that she tried to be all inclusive but, in my opinion, it felt disjointed and not fluid.

I give the book a 3.75 out 5.0 review for Jannah's effort to bring this information to the forefront.

Either there are a few people with Jannah Adam's name or there is no real cohesive social media presence on the internet. I found a few people with her name but I could not confidently confirm it was the same person.

I found that Amazon had the best information on her and her background. Jannah has also seemingly written a couple of other books along this similar theme that you may want to check out.

This book is written for someone with knowledge of training, I didn’t feel that a beginner should jump straight into a program without specific guidance.

Overall, there’s plenty of information to help question your choices of exercise, food and nutrition. A start to a healthy lifestyle is always going to be good!

Thanks to the publisher, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book seemed somewhat repetitive at first but then got better and more informative as you got into it. It was overall well written and I thought provided a very clear path for a novice to strength training to follow. I liked that it described exactly what exercises you could do and in what order to do them as you got more and more into shape, rather than jumping straight into exercises that maybe you're body won't be ready for right away.

It‘s my first book about workout and exercises of this kind - normally it‘s more pages with pictures and a few lines. Here we get lots of informations (sometimes it seems a bit too much and especially the beginning was too long for my liking) and I‘m not sure that people who wants to lose weight want to go through all these details. Some will, sure, and for those the book will be a great source.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy!

Unfortunately, I didn't find this as informative as I'd hoped, although it could still be useful for someone who is fairly new to strength training and weight loss. But then, newbie readers who would find this book more useful would probably also need more photographs/diagrams of the exercises recommended, especially when the author has gone to the lengths of emphasising the importance of correct form.

The concept of intuitive fasting is new to me, but wasn't very well-explained either. So by the end of it, I still don't really understand how it's supposed to work.

Overall, this book would've benefited from having:
- photographs/illustrations for all exercises;
- sample workout plans;
- sample meal plans.

Good information but nothing you can't find by searching Google. It would have been nice to have better visuals for the exercises. Overall it's good information to give a beginner but you still need to do more research for yourself.

A really handy book to have for anyone who is looking to start a health and/or fitness journey. Very helpful information and useful to have it all in one place.

I must say I was looking forward to this one but it didn't really do it for me. The information was nothing new and there just weren't enough photos to help me work out the feel of the exercises.

Nutrition information was a bit lack-lustre and I had heard it all before. It was aimed more at the younger generation and people who knew how to do the exercises already so didn't help me out much in that respect.

Not a fan of this book but it might work for some.

Nothing new here, but could be handy for some to have this all in one book. Limited images - it would be better if all exercises have photo demonstrations.

Its that time again , the nights draw in and I try and get in better health to stave off those pesky flu bugs.
I really love the writing style of this book! It doesn’t feel ‘preachy’ or try and lecture on how your doing everything wrong , instead it focuses on helpful practical suggestions on diet and provides easy to follow workouts.

I’m not a gym bunny but I really found this book helpful and would recommend !

I requested this book in hopes to jumpstart a return to strength training and wanted a simple, made for a beginner plan.

There is no way in good conscience that I can recommend this book, especially for a beginner.

Ignoring the fact that my ARC had misspellings and layout issues (paragraphs ending mid-sentence), any book making recommendations for diet and exercise should as least be pulling from peer-reviewed journals. Instead, the literature cited is full of websites including Men's Health, Self, and Planet Fitness.

There is no basic workout plan to follow and readers are told to build their own plan, which for the beginner is daunting and if not correctly balance will likely lead to injury.

The section on diet is too narrowly focused and mainly discusses intermittent fasting.

There are many other better strength training books geared towards a beginner.

This was a wonderful book completely dedicated to showing the reader what it really takes to lose weight and get in shape. I wish I had read it years ago.

This was great because you learn so much about weight training. I did think it might have more workout combinations but to be fair there's only so much you can do with targeting so much muscle groups. The explanations were great and I think those interested will get a lot out of this book|!

I found this to be an easy to follow guide and for the right reader this would definitely be a helpful and useful book.

This book is useful for anyone who wants to lose weight. to do this you also need to burn fat and for that strength training is necessary in addition to cardio. This book provides many diagrams, explanations of the exercises and recipes, which is very nice. what I miss is adjustments to the exercises if you are not allowed to do something or less for medical reasons. This would be a nice addition to a new edition.
