I am a bit disappointed because I love Jeneva Rose.

It is an Airbnb gone wrong. This book is a dual povs of both the guest of the ranch and the host. Grace is a city girl taking a week off from her routine; she rents a room in a ranch in Wyoming owned by Calvin Wells. From the first time they meet she feels that something is off but is not sure what... So you follow the story as they grow closer together but as soon as it was time for her to leave, things start to get wrong…..Should she have gone there?

Reading the synopsis and the book title I thought I was in for a ride but it took me too long to reach something that I was not interested in anymore.
It started well and intriguing, I was rooting for Grace and I wanted her to be safe. But after 60% of romancing, I completely forgot that this is supposed to be a thriller book. And when things started to unravel; a lot of it did not make sense. Like I might understand if the author wanted us to believe that everything was ok for that ending to be a complete shock-which it was- but I wanted more of Calvin’s creepiness to show. He didn’t have a chance to share his part well… It took so long for the truth to show but it ended quickly….

I am in between 2.5 and 3 stars honestly….

Okay Jeneva Rose go off!

This is a masterclass in unreliable narrators and overall creating a tense, uneasiness throughout the entire book that you second guess yourself over and over until the very last page.

Some areas felt like slight slow burns which is why I give it a 4,5 star rating but honestly this book was incredible and you must read it.

Grace is a busy New Yorker who just wants a quiet getaway in Wyoming. She books an airbnb that seems to hold a lot of secrets, including a possible missing woman. Grace isn't sure who to trust and whether she should stay at all, but when he car won't start, her decision seems to be made for her. Twists and turns will keep you guessing.

This book had my jaw drop so many times! It was a sort of flow burn, but the last 100 pages had me on the edge of my seat! I did NOT see the ending coming like it did! Amazing!!

I loved this!!! I finished it in less than 12 hours with all the mommying and living in between. I was supposed to be buddy reading it with two of my best book gals and I just couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what happened and if my suspicions were true, which you definitely form in the beginning of the book but it could always go any of which way. Of course, the writing was superb as expected. Another great book by Jeneva … I mean Drew’s wife lol

You Shouldn’t Have Come Here was a slow burner that ended with an explosion.

Grace Evans is looking for the perfect 10 day getaway and Calvin Wells has an Airbnb in the country with an open spot just for her. At first sparks fly between the two and love seems to be in the air. There’s flirting and falling for each other, then there’s pulling back as cracks form and bad things seep through. There are lies and…withheld information. By the halfway point, you’ll start to think that you can’t trust anyone. You can’t. One thing is clear: Calvin doesn’t want Grace to leave and he will do anything to keep her.

The writing style was simple and clear, although it has point of view changes in first person, which I’m not a fan of. Dialogue seems awkward at times, but could be chalked up to all the secrets the characters are concealing. It would be nice if we had more hints at some of the things the characters were hiding. The hints were few and far between, and barely touched the surface of all the things there was to be discovered. Some situations felt thrown in just for drama’s sake as the scenes were intense, but really didn’t have much of a purpose other than shock value. The romance at the beginning is laid on a little too thick for my own personal taste, but others may enjoy that aspect of it. The ending for me felt strange and opened up a lot of questions about Grace’s actions and thoughts throughout the rest of the book. It’s definitely an ending that people won’t see coming.

Trigger warnings:
Animal deaths
Adult situations
Gaslighting

This book is perfect for someone that likes a bit of spice but also a campy mystery and some murder.

An ARC of this book was provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for this review.

Loved this book! Jeneva has a way of keeping the reader engaged and guessing till the end! This is a story about Grace who goes away to rebalance herself. While some of the plot arcs were a little predictable the ride was still thoroughly enjoyable and there was a couple of twists I didn’t see coming!

First of all, the first 92% of this book was 100% harlequin suspense #7892: "The Rancher's Secret" with extremely occasional ominous hints. At 92% it shifted to just about the silliest thing I've ever read and, between you and me, that's saying something.

Jeneva does it again. Absolutely amazing. Loved the twist ending! I would like to know more as far as what happens after after the ending but feel it wrapped up nicely (which i love when thrillers do) or could make room for a sequel either way. So excited I was able to access an early copy of this because I flew through it in a day just like I knew I would

I love books about small towns who have creepy residents and everyone seems to know everyone else. This book definitely delivered! I stayed up until 1 am finishing this book, not wanting to put it down! My mind kept thinking everyone (at one point) was “the bad guy”. This is very suspenseful and kept my attention the whole way through! Loved it!

* Side note: Take a shot every time “moseyed” or “swigged” is mentioned. Kidding. Don’t do that.

An Airbandb gone wrong!

When Grace escapage NYC for a rural respite in Wyoming, she isn't expecting a potential romance or any drama. Very quickly however, she finds the owner of the property to be a friendly and fun companion. But as the sheriff stops by looking for a missing woman, and other signs point to a potential problem, Grace is sure that she has to leave her ranch respite, the only question is will Calvin allow her?

This was.a fun.idea and decent novel I think I would have enjoyed it better if other characters has POV included. Some of the story was a bit simplistic but it did hold my interest. If you like a vacation gone wrong, You Shouldn't Have Come Here is for you! #Blackstone

I have mixed feelings about this book and it was hard to decide on a star rating. It started off well enough with a few creepy vibes and I liked where it was going. Fairly soon that kind of came to a halt and I started to feel like I was reading a romance novel. So much so that I had to double check the synopsis. I understand why it was in the story but I felt like the story dwelled on the romance aspect for too long and lost some of the suspense because of it. It took until halfway through the book for things to pick back up and get interesting again. Also, the romance part was full of clichés. There were a couple of loose ends I wish had been tied up and some things I wanted a bit more background for.
Some of the reveals I saw coming a mile away, but the big twist was awesome and I never saw it coming. I just feel like it took too long to get there.

You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose

Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives at the idyllic getaway, she's pleased to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells -- and he's eager to introduce her to his easygoing way of life. But there are things Grace discovers that she's not too pleased about: A lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn't right with the ranch.

Despite her uneasiness, the two bond and start to fall for one another. However, as her departure date nears, things change for the worse. What began as a playful romance soon turns into a complicated web of lies. Grace grows wary of Calvin as his infatuation for her seems to have morphed to obsession. Calvin fears that Grace is hiding something from him -- including her reason for staying at his ranch to begin with. Vacation flings typically end in heartbreak, but for Grace and Calvin, it'll be far more destructive.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of YSHCH! This book kept me hooked. I could not put it down and read it in less than 10 hours. I will say I was expecting more shock value and twists. There is one twist that shocked me but I just wanted more.

Grace and Calvin…family and friends…vacation… beautiful landscapes …scary situations…this talented author has written a cannot put down novel. A page turner. This book would make a thriller movie…murder and intrigue. Red herrings abound. I did not guess the ending…it just did not occur to me that this book would end like this…none of the characters are likable. They don’t trust each other. This story moves quickly. Rose is gifted at keeping the reader on edge…guessing…this book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review.

I spent the first 35% of this book trying to figure out what was going on, and the next 70% second guessing myself in my theories. If you love a suspenseful thriller with some spice added in, this one is for you. Grace Evans takes a vacation to Wyoming and stays with Airbnb host, Calvin. Without cellphone service, Wi-Fi, and a group of locals who want her gone, her whole trip is one thing after the other. We also read from Calvin’s point of view, but is he as sweet as he seems? Is his past as genuinely tragic as Grace is hearing, or is it all an act? This one will have you guessing until the very end, and the ending will leave a pit in your stomach.

(Notes added for NetGalley only)
I really enjoyed reading this book once I got about halfway in, so I’m withholding the 5th star for that reason. The beginning was a little slow for me, but the last half went by very quickly. The repetitive nature of “blue, blue eyes” gave me the clue that it would be a major plot point, so I was waiting for the moment when Grace became the villain. The twist that they were both culprits made a lot of sense, but it also doesn’t really give the reader anyone to root for. Overall I do think this book is solid and I thank you very much for the opportunity to read it.

You Shouldn't Have Come Here is another dynamite book by Jeneva Rose.

Grace takes a break from her life in New York and goes to stay on a very remote ranch in Wyoming. The world in Wyoming is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of New York life.
While there Grace starts a romance with Calvin - and I enjoy some romance in my mysteries. Then her beau begins to swerve from romantic encounter to obsession. Grace has to solve the mystery of a woman who previously disappeared without a trace - and Calvin is a likely suspect.

Twists and turns make this a compelling read. The scenery is described so well that I felt I could almost touch it.

Holy cow! Talk about a plot twist and totally shocking story! So darn good. Hard to say anything without giving too much away. Just a great page turner that goes in a direction you would never expect.

When you know that a book is considered “suspense” you are constantly thinking what could the twist be while you’re reading. You are constantly trying to guess who the “bad guy” is. I love when the book can shock me. It’s always a fun surprise for it to end differently than you expect. This was a fun story to read and it definitely kept me guessing!

FRIENDS

I uhh don't know how to review this.

I don't know if I even want too.

Ok I will, but I'll keep it short.

You Shouldn't Have Come Here was just a massive miss for me. The writing seemed lazy, the characters were boring, and the ending was a letdown. About 85% of this book felt more like a romance than a thriller. It just went back and fourth between the characters trusting each other to thinking they were hiding something. I don't know. Wasn't for me.

This is probably my favourite thriller of 2022! Simply obsessed.

I was worried about the dual POV because I read another thriller book where there are multiple POVs, and it did NOT work, but I found it actually worked here to create more uncertainty.

I genuinely was left guessing in the first half of the book and had no idea what was going on, because it read more like a small town rom-com, which made me all the more uneasy about when the shoe would drop and how.

The cast of characters all left me guessing and I thought I had it all figured out about 5 different times, but nothing could have prepared me for that ending!

I loved the writing, the pacing and the characters. Everything about this was just perfect.

The ONE issue I had was her excessive and unironic use of the word "Mosey" lol

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review ❤️
